And wolves - Odin had two wolves named Geri and Freki (both meaning "the ravenous" or "greedy one" in old Norse )along with his two ravens named Huginn and Muninn (witch means "Memory" and "Mind" in old Norse)
Blood Raven doesn't sound like the kind of guy who wouldn't make peace if he thought it was a real possibility. In that case the fake treaty was an understandable move, maybe not right but understandable.
Brynden Rivers was one of the smartest people in the series. He was honorable in his own way and did what was best for his Targaryen kin even if it made him a villain. He ruled through fear because he knew with his looks he would never be loved.
I adore you guys. I was a blind "Catelyn annoys me but she's gotta be okay" kinda reader until I found you guys. When will the next installation be up? I binge you guys two and three times each episode, I love how you back up everything you say. Rock on!
thank you so much...we had to take a break from Catelyn...telling the world the truth about her almost killed our channel...people got so mad at us you would think we were talking about their mothers and not about a fictional character that doesn't actually exist...we're going to finish up Bloodraven before we move forward with her...we've still only covered her first 5 POV chapters and she has already caused that much trouble, and she doesn't slow down after that, so there is plenty to come
The Order of the Green Hand Well that's just silly that people freaked out. I love it! If I wanted a simple echo-chamber of how a book should be read and processed I sure as hell wouldn't read GRR Martin. You guys keep shaking it up and making us think critically. Whether it's to be agreed upon 100% or not, it's such fun seeing different, unique and critical thinking on these books. Definitely the stuff that should make our favorite author proud. You guys have been a refreshing breath of air while waiting for Winds to come out. Anyone who boo's that is missing the true joy of these books. xoxo
"I have been many things, Bran. Now I am as you see me, and now you will understand why I could not come to you.... I have watched you for a long time, watched you with a thousand eyes and one" I can't wait for your theories about bloodraven. We know so much about him, yet so little.
Wait a minute! He was a sorcerer, rumored to be able to turn into a dog and mist. He’s albino and the sun bothered his skin so he was always wearing a hood Bloodraven might be a twist on depiction of vampires, who are often villains. In this case, he was no villain at all. I’m ashamed that I didn’t notice this sooner, but that’s so cool.
Varys is Bloodravens child! It would explain the knowledge of the hidden passages & people don't recognize him when he comes & goes. Master of Whispers & putting the realm above all other.
It could also be that Bloodraven maybe tips Varys off to different things to stay several moves ahead! He talks about his little birds are everywhere. In the show it is children. In the books.....
Hey! Red eyes, albino skin and hair, Targaryen bone structure, a birth mark even better than a cool tatoo... If you ask me, Blood Raven sounds exotic and beautiful, maybe not conventionally hot, and maybe weird, by the supertistios standards of Westeros, but Shiera Seastar was unconventional herself. Aegor had no chance.
Hot in a creepy unnerving way. The way Odin would be attractive or a drow in D&D. Ghost is beautiful and he has white fur and red eyes. He reminds me a bit of Zane Cobrina from a teen book series I loved as a kid. Looks scary at first until you start looking at him through the eyes of a lover. I imagine Sheira with her strange blue eye and green eye heteroroma would have thought them a very attractive couple.
I've not heard before anyone draw such a compelling parallel between Tyrion and Bloodraven, but as usual now that you guys point it out, it's like a huge blinking sign. It's no accident that Tyrion is a POV character drawn to be so witty, sympathetic, and beloved. By doing this GRRM demonstrates how someone like him can be so misunderstood and underappreciated because of his appearance, scapegoating, bitter half(?)-sibling (!!!) out to get him, etc...so it perfectly sets up a Bloodraven reveal later on--because of Tyrion we are primed to understand the circumstances. So cool!
+The Order of the Green Hand No thank YOU TWO! :) PS In the Part 3 summary there was another great quote making a connection: "serving as Hand while being demonized by those he serves"...you might as well be talking about Tyrion! I swear these books have endless depths (and you guys are great at finding them!).
If we think about it, BloodRaven is a mix of Jon, Theon and Tyrion, BR is a legitimized bastard with the blood of Valyria and the First Men that wields a Valyrian sword (like Jon), is skilled with a bow and accused of being a kinslayer (like Theon) and acted as Hand of the King, but was hated and feared by both the common people and nobility because of his appearance (like Tyrion) and has taken the black and become leader of the Night's Watch! (like Jon, and Theon and Tyrion as well if Tyrion haven't gone to Essos and if Theon wasn't captured by Ramsay and turned into Reek)
I refrain from watching any GoT videos until you release yours. Yes it may take some time and I check each day to see if there are any new uploads. That being said it is well worth the wait, I can only imagine how much time and effort you put into each video and for that I thank you. I would rather one well informative and perfectly executed video once a week than multiple videos based on conjecture. As much as I desperately wait for more content I would like to say the meticulous, spot on, nature of your videos are well worth the wait. This channel has given me clarity to many sides of the story that were previously shrouded in mystery and I had never dreamed of being able to piece together. You have my admiration and patience, also my appreciation of such masterful insight. This is one of the most intelligent channels I have come across and I thank you for your dedication. Just know that your videos help me through my week and as always, I can't wait for your next video!
Thank you so much...that is very nice of you to say...we do put a lot of time into researching each topic we tackle before we move forward with a theory and it is always nice to hear that it is appreciated...we would like to get more content out but we there is limited time to do so....each video takes us 40-50 hours between the two of us to put together and sometimes more if it is a particularly intricate topic (which many of them are), and our channel is not nearly popular enough for us to do this full time and I run my own business and she is a full-time psychologist...hopefully at some point we will be able to devote more time to it and get more content out so you don't have to wait so long between videos...once again...thank you so much...part 2 should be ready on monday
A black weirwood tree? I think the Blackwood sigil is a dead weirwood tree, not a black tree. It is certainly white on the wiki sigil, not that I put a lot of trust in the wiki. Dead from the Bracken's poisoning the tree. The tree does seem to attract a large flock of raven's. Nice video! Bloodraven really is one of the more intriguing characters in the story.
Bloodraven and the norse god Odin have strong parallels. Odin is also associated with ravens, and in myth, Odin gave one of his eyes for knowledge. Odin is often depicted with animal companions that not only include Ravens, but Wolves, as well. When I first read about Bloodraven in ASOIAF, my mind went to Odin in myth. Jon is also very like Odin with his wolf and raven, as well.
Yes, Jon is a young Odin who knows nothing for now, since he still has both his eyes. He will probably lose an eye at some point, or maybe he'll remain ignorant for the rest of the story. Are there some allusions to Jon's eyes in the books?
thank you! making one of these videos takes about 100+ hours and I think down the stretch I was getting a bit tired, I also have a cold (which you can kinda tell in the video), which may have contributed to my mistake there. haha but thanks for letting me know.
I am sure the video's take a ton of work. That is why I watch and don't do! I can tell you put some real time and effort in to them and they are all well done.
Boubou Bibila I wonder if he wont lose an eye, or even both, as some point, in the show and books. The books detail an attack by an eagle, much like the show does. Season 6 promo pic's indicated Jon with blood around his eye, and I was certain that he would lose an eye in season 6, but that did not happen. I would not be surprised if that happened at some point, though!
we are starting to put together a list of requested topics and will begin addressing them when we are done with the topics we have already begun researching
I always thought that since Bloodraven in Dunk and Egg is kinda portrayed as a "bad guy" that he must in actuality be the opposite. I've wondered if he knowingly chose to stay in that cave to devote himself to saving Westeros. He's in a position to watch over key players that will be important in the endgame. He sacrificed his physical body for the greater good. I think Jon will make some similar sacrifice in the end to give us our "bittersweet" ending. I don't think he'll necessarily die, but will make some similar sacrifice for the greater good. I've also wondered if eventually Bran and Arya will become enemies unknowingly. They are both being trained to use their natural abilities. Bloodraven has always fought for the Targs, and it's assumed dragons will be necessary to defeat the others. On the other hand, the faceless men are anti Valyrian and one can only assume anti dragon. The faceless men are definitely up to something involving dragons with Pate being at the citadel. I can't wait to hear your opinions on the faceless men!
There are definitely a few parallels between them...albino, red eyes, unsung hero, bastard status, and they are both determined to defeat the ancient enemy of mankind
I'm just now going through all the auxiliary novellas of ASoIaF. Great video as always, I love to see anything from your channel pop up in my alerts; lots of smart and in-depth analysis. I appreciate the tie-ins of symbolism and history George uses in his writing as well, and it's awesome that you pick up on those too.
Thank you...his other works are fantastic as well...the Princess and the Queen is harder to follow unless you have a Targaryen family tree and a list of which dragon is whose in front of you while you're going through it...that's what we had to do to understand what was really happening
i like how at 2:05 you guys used a picture of sorin markhov for bloodraven MTG baybeeeee Brynden Markhov 3(bbb) +2 Brynden Markhov deals 2 damage to target wight or white walker and you gain 2 life - 3 Target white walker's life total becomes 10 - 7 You control target green seerer's next green dream 4
Hey guys, I hope you know that some of your images of Bloodraven are from a Magic: the Gathering card Sorin Markov. This video was great! Keep up the good work!
haha...half the time we don't have a clue what the picture we use actually are, but finding decent pictures of non-show characters is difficult sometimes and in an effort not to use the same picture over and over again, we end up "proclaiming" that a random picture is a character we need a picture of
Guys your videos are beyond amazing. I only found you a few days ago but have caught up and all your stuff is mind blowing and at this point i will be really surprised if most of it doesn't turn out to be true in the books. I have seen many many theory videos but yours are probably the best I have seen with the best evidence and most amount of clue finding in the words and wording of the text. Fantastic job guys keep it up
Bloodraven might try to do something to save the realm and even himself, he might try to brainwash Brandon starks in order to both awaken his warg and takeover his body for a good reason to try to save the realm from the others, bran is not good enough to save everyone, bloodraven is dying he may need a new body and he has a lot of information and more experience in warging.
Love these guys!!! keep up the amazing vids! i'm a farly new sub & to be sure, i just can't get enough!!!! i really appreciate all the time it must take you to research, script & edit them! They are excellent videos, wonderful to watch, entertaining and informative! Y'all are for sure my newly discovered fave & most watched channel dealing with our favorite never-ending epic song...thank you!!! p.s. those silky smooth pipes of The Order of the Green Hand's Knight of could give *_James Earl Jones_* himself a run for his money!!!! =) (p.p.s. & that's crazy high praise from this non-apologizing self-proclaimed STAR WARS-slappy! XD !!! )
The Order of the Green Hand It is!!! The _GREATS_ always make it look & seem effortless... but it's masterful, & truly a joy to watch!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
An albino with long white hair and red eyes... you can tell Martin is an Elric fan. Valyria is clearly similar to Melniboné with the dragons and unholy magic
I am so excited to hear your thoughts on BR north of the wall! I believe that is a great turning point in the story, what transpires north of the wall. I shouldn't watch these before bed, now I'm going to be up all night thinking about it lol.
I've always wondered: if Bloodraven was both born and raised in King's Landing, unlike Aegor, who was raised in the Riverlands, why is he named Lord Rivers instead of Lord Waters?
The last name of bastards is decided after where the mothers are from Such as Joffrey tommen and myrcella they would be hill as cersie was from the westerlands Ramsay is a snow as his mother was from the north Jon is a snow as at the beginning of the story his mother is unknown and his father is from the north The sand snakes mothers aren’t known so they are snakes after there father Aegor is a rivers as his mother is from the riverlands Waters is only used if the father is from the crow lands and the mothers birth place is unknown
I always wondered what it was like having Lord Commander Blood Raven and Maester Aemon Targaryen at the wall together. And I never heard a good theory on why he disappears North of the wall. looking forward to the next video
Isn't that the damn truth. I don't get the entire Super Bowl experience - it's nothing but hype, and the wrong kind of hype at that. I'll probably be re-watching Westworld all day Sunday :)
How do you think The Prince of Dragonstone Baelor Breakspear died in the Trial of Seven? Maekar cannot remember hitting his brother with his mace, but he must have. Could it be Bloodraven that made him do this? So that in the end Maekars line would end up on the Throne. Because of the prophesy of the Prince who was promised. They knew about this prophecy back then. Maybe Prince Daeron, son of Maekar already had dreamt that he/she would be born out of Aegons line, and then Bloodraven does everything he can in order to make Aegon king. Then he goes to the Wall, can research the WW, and connects to the Weirwood trees while still sending dreams and messages to other people all over Westeros. Bloodraven definently sacrificed himself for the greater good. But he could also sacrifice others. He is a grey shade person.
I think Maekar inadvertently killed him. The last time we saw them in the fight, Maekar was fighting his brother and two other men at the same time...in the blur of action, wildly fighting Maekar must have hit his brother with his mace while trying to keep all three of them off him. Maekar was a formidable warrior and the one thing that is certain is that he didn't mean to...him not remembering isn't abnormal for a situation like that...Dunk didn't remember if he killed Aerion or not...it is possible that Bloodraven played a role in some of the things that happened but I think it more likely that he would have done things following the events at Whitewalls, where he discovered that Egg was the dragon born at whitewalls
I think we were meant to think it was only the heat of the battle that made Maekar not remember hitting Baelor. But I still think its very fishy. Yes, it could have happen that way, but I think Bloodraven easily could have intervened and taken an advantage of the situation. Whitewalls is a different matter. There Bloodraven surley was very much involved.
Awesome stuff! What about Jamie Lannister he has a lot of similarities to Blood Raven too! Kinslayer/ Kingslayer. Not willing to dispute the rumors of his own reputation. A man with a difficult love life, who had to make a sacrifice of his own honor for the good of the realm?
That's a great parallel that I hadn't thought about before, but you're right they do have a lot of similarities. Jaime is such a tragic character, but that's what makes him amazing I guess.
Another great video!!! Congrats on hitting 5000 subs. I'll bet you hit 10K in less than a month. I find it interesting that there are only 3 characters who are better known (or referred to more often by) by their nick names than their real names. Bloodraven, Bittersteel and Dark Star. Do you think that there is any connection or reason for that?
There are a few others...the hound, the mountain, blackheart, the old bear, crow's eye and there are probably more that I can't think of off the top of my head...I personally think the entire point of Dark Star is to really show that being the sword of the morning takes more than skill at arms, because if that's all it took Dark Star (the best sword in Dorne) would be the sword of the morning...I think Bittersteel got his name because he was bitter all the time, and bloodraven is incredibly symbolic of his role in the story
Just like all of your vids I enjoyed it. I look for yours every day to make sure I didn't miss one and I've watched some more than once. I started following you early on. Good job. Yet I still can't accept R+L=J. Old man, old mind.
Thank you...I recognized your photo as someone I've been interacting with on here since our earliest videos...and we don't accept R+L=J either so I totally understand
Hello! No not yet. I have read a little bit of some of his other works, but not to the extent we have with ASOIAF. are there any works in particular that you really like and think are worth delving into?
Dying of the Light, In the House of the Worm or the Wild Cards series. I also like the ideas that the Iron Born religion is very Lovecraftian. Maybe that would be a good video idea.
Sorry to double-post, but I really want to know your opinion on how the A+N = J will be played out on the show. Your videos made me re-read the series again, but with A+N = J being the major underlying theme. I see it so much that I can't go back to the 99% of viewers and readers who are holding to the R+L = J is canon at this point. It was subtly re-enforced during my initial phase of reading the books because that's all I hear. I've read through AGAIN with notes from this series, and I can't go back and un-see. It is classic GRRM subtle misdirection and scattered clues to find Jon's lineage. I know the creators of the show had to hazard a guess to George re: Jon's parents before he would let them do the show, and apparently they got it right because here we are, 6 full seasons in. I really hope we do have the rug pulled out from the accepted theory. When I heard Ser Arthur Dayne say "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come", same as Mance told Stannis, it struck me as odd. Then Uncle Benjen-Hands tells Bran and Meera "I wish you good fortune...", then leaves without saying anything else because the war had already come. They seem to be keeping it open as to the foreshadowing in the show, but I can see it being setup as a major twist. Knowing that the show will end the same way the books will, I wonder if this is a big season 7 plotline or cliff-hanger, or if they are going to go with the overwhelming majority and get it wrong. I ramble too much, but I see the N+A = J story as the barometer of truth after reading through the books again with notes taken from your playlist. Again, great job.
First of all...thank you very much...in answer to your question, I see the show as having two options at this point, and I don't believe they are the shot caller for their options...GRRM is...he has recently indicated that TWOW will actually be coming out this year...they pushed back the show as far as they could to try and accommodate him in his desire to reveal his own secrets by giving him some extra time, but it is crunch time and they are either going to continue to make Fanfiction, which is what GRRM called the show this past year or are going to make an actual effort to get back where the books are going. Last season, it seemed to me that they were forbidden from showing any part of Jon's actual book plot besides his resurrection...following his resurrection, everything he did following it was Stannis' book plot...they cast 3 yet to be named characters whose descriptions perfectly match Aegon, Connington and Ashara/Lemore...they killed off 2/3 of the cast in the last two episodes last season, and have recently "leaked" the name Aegon Targaryen as Jon Snow's "real name." I believe they have been "leaking" misinformation about the show because they have too many open sets that paparazzi can easily take pictures of, and since 99.99999% of people are too lazy to pour through all those pictures and try and piece something together from them, and are more likely to take the "ready-made" information. This allowed them to take back control of the offseason narrative surrounding the show again and took the power from the paparazzi photo speculators. An executive of a major network would likely know how to manipulate narratives or he/she wouldn't have gotten to the position they are in...and think about it...every time they do it, the internet goes wild with speculation based on what the "leak" says...Anyways, we think the name leak of Aegon Targaryen is real, its just not Jon's real name...his name is Jon Stark, King of the North and Sword of the Morning...also, think about how much better a scene it would be to shoot where Jon meets his mother (who will immediately recognize him because he looks nearly identical to what Ned looked like when she met Ned), rather than him being devastated to find out he's a Targaryen and an orphan of two people he will never meet
I've been waiting until I could actually take some time to reply; I see you're not afraid of being verbose either. Once I start writing something speculative about the show / the books, it's hard to stop because there is so much to say. Your videos are really well done and extremely dense, which I throughly appreciate. I think you are correct about the show's off-season leaks and open sets. It seems that the filming occurring now has gotten off the charts, the story has to be told in a way that isn't just confirming the "leaked plot". I'm not one to miss a trainwreck, so I can't deny I check out Watchers several times per week, but I don't draw any conclusions based off what I see other than the obvious. My interpretation is pretty much "Yep, this dude's back. That dude's back. Who is that new actress? Who is she going to be playing? Arya's northern garb is awesome. Glad to see the Stoneheart story has been tossed." That's as much as I will allow myself to absorb. HBO execs aren't stupid, and they want GOT material on the air for a long while, and George is all onboard. HBO told us Jon was dead after season 5 finished. Now they have a chart up on the website "confirming" he is the son of Lyanna and Rhaegar. When re-watching the TOJ vision in S06E10, it is strongly inferred via the cut-shot that the baby Ned was holding was Jon, but it was never outright said in the show. There is zero video proof that it was Jon. If they're cutting Aegon / Young Griff from the show, they're doubling down and it will be Dany. I seriously hope it turns out that he is Jon Stark and the Sword of the Morning. D&D and George are contractually obligated so that the story and show end the same way. The character's journeys will be different, but the over-arching story has to remain the same. I want the R+L=J theory to be completely dismantled, because that would be GREAT to see unfold. If Dan and Dave didn't come to the correct conclusion re: Jon's parentage when pitching the script to George, the show wouldn't have moved forward. There is also the issue of the inside studio shoots that the paparazzi can't get their hands on, which is where the juiciest and most protected storylines are served up. The outdoor scenes could indeed be using some deception to curtail leaks, but they are already running on a razor-thin budget, so I don't think they would waste time and money on too many fake-outs. We are seeing the shots without context, and the "leaked plot" confirms nothing other than certain actors being brought back to finish their parts in the story. They should have Sam and Gilly show up to the beach scene in a rusty pickup, with a Dothraki vs Wilding volleyball game. Headlines after would read "Game of Thrones - Time Travelling / SciFi Angle Confirmed!" People tend to forget about the HUGE Northern Ireland secure studio. Anyway, awesome vids on Bloodraven, I'm just getting around to reading his story in the novellas. I'm not one who is easily triggered by spoilers; I quit posting on Reddit because there is an entire matrix of rules as to what is considered a spoiler and what is not. People searching out info on the series do so at their own risk. I can't coddle people who are sensitive to spoilers. This is a story that cannot be discussed without bringing up spoiler material. Many thanks for doing the hard work and creating some of the highest-quality analysis out there.
I think Bloodraven found out about the years of offerings to the great other by the nights watch and wildlings while he was Lord Commander and decided to find out more where he was captured and enslaved by the children.
I prefer to believe that he fought against the Others (kinda like the fight between the Others and Waymar Royce in the Epilogue of Book 1), was gravely wounded but was saved by the children and that's why he's stuck in that weirwood, I don't think that the COTF are evil because when Bran is in that cave, Summer is never hostile to either Leaf or Brynden and we know that the direwolves can sense whether people are harmless or not, Lady, Grey Wind and Ghost are there to proof and I consider the Jojen Paste theory a red herring as well!
Do you think there's a chance that BR+SS=M? Just due to the whole Blood and Star combo, the fact that she doesn't seem to recognize him in her flames, while seeing the thousand eyes. I'll give you this, Mel clearly has been brought back before, as Beric says the fire consumes and he doesn't remember much of his old life, if this is the case with Shiara then perhaps it would explain. On the flip side Mel has red eyes like an albino... Mayhaps her father's eyes... Idk. what do you think evidence wise?
thats an interesting observation. i also just found that there is a Lothston enlisted with the Golden Company. Of course the men there can go by any name they want and claim to be descended from wherever, but it seems credible, given the information you just provided. I really think that Bloodraven was prophecy driven, and seemed to be laser focused on ensuring the exact right Targaryen lineage came to be, as one of things he did to prepare for the great war to come.
this is a great channel, love all the videos as I haven't been able to get to all the sidebooks yet. I've only been able to read the ice and fire series.
you are not the first to make the request for a patchface video...I'm going through our comment section later today and making a list of the requests we have received and when we are done with what we are currently working on already, we will start on the requests and will do them in the order based on how many requests we have received for any given topic
that's awesome news I'll be watching no matter what goes up anyway but patchface is already a very alluring and interesting character. Putting your critical thinking to that will be an amazing video.
To be honest he freaks me out...there's definitely something not right about his character and if I was stannis I wouldn't let that creature anywhere near my daughter
question I don't mean to disrespect because blood raven is one of my favorites but could shear have picked BR. because of blood magic. could that be the reason they never married
I love your take on the series! I have watched all of your videos and am always stoked to see when a new one is posted. I read through the comments and saw why you had to pause on putting out some of the Catelyn videos. I look forward to when you are able to go back to those. Are there any interesting mysteries of the Vale that you might explore? or did I miss it already?
Thank you...we really enjoyed making the Catelyn vids and will be back at it soon enough...we're not the types to back down, especially when speaking the truth, but for the sake of our channel we had to take a break...the Vale is a very interesting region...we will definitely be exploring the mysteries of the Vale in the future
Awesome, I can't wait-- on both topics! I feel the Vale often gets overshadowed due to most characters from the main series being from other regions. Thanks for the reply and I look forward to the next video.
Damn good stuff! Hey what do you think house Tarley was doing during the rebellion? I noticed Hightower on that list sporting Blackfyre banner. I figure Horn Hill is in between them and the Red Grass field. Wonder why they didn't choose a side. I mean, c'mon. You can't sit by not choosing a side while a massive rebellion is going on close to your lands while sporting the "First into Battle" as your house words. Just sayin
It seems likely that they were with the Reds, because House Tyrell was with the Reds and it doesn't say otherwise, and they didn't lose lands or titles following the wars so that would be my best guess
Lots of hard work going into these videos! Great job! Wondering if y'all might be willing to make a compilation video of RRM interviews sharing all his clues and what they may mean?
As usual another great video. Is it mentioned anywhere about Blood Raven using a glass candle? If he was the greatest spy master but did not have any little birds, I'm curious what & who were hs informers.
thank you...I have never found a reference to him using a glass candle...I suspect he used actual birds, and other animals as well as using 1000s of random people...we do know he used the dwarf performers at Whitewalls
The Order of the Green Hand Lol! I remember that now. Thank you and +Elsie Daniels. I listened to the Dunk & Egg trilogy via audiobook but it was harder to follow along for me, which is weird since you can't compare it in volume or complexity to ASOIAF. Or maybe it was just the narrator? Because I loved listening to Iian Glenn for The Rouge Prince, The Princess and the Queen, etc. Plus now whenever I read any of ASOIAF I hear Roy Dotrice in my head 😁...(I'm done babbling)
Anyone ever commented on the fact that you sound like Corey Feldman? Love your videos, even if I don't agree with all your theories. They are always well thought out and always interesting. Keep them coming.
Thank you. Be careful with the next few videos. I think this was when we first bought our song and I still had no idea what I was doing with audio editing and the songs were way too loud
I always had the feeling he was talking about Daemon :( That would make things much more interesting, the fact he killed him for the sake of the realm and all
Loved or hated Daemon? from your response it seems like you meant loved, which is entirely possible because Daemon was said to be a great guy, but from the fact that his mother was tight with Daeron and his mother and Aemon the Dragonknight, it seems likely that BR was tight with them too...after all, he was the next to wield Aemon the Dragonknight's sword Dark Sister
@@DhDeadMan As maester Aemon said: "Love is the death of duty", and I imagine Daemon and Brynden having a relationship like Robb and Jon's relationship!
Idk, I find him very complicated but in many ways an example of why "By any means necessary" and "The ends justify the means" mentality is so poisonous. He definitely has heroic parts to him, but he's also capable of anything he can justify. Dangerous to say the least.
+The Order of the Green Hand - I know this is a Bloodraven video but @ the beginning you mentioned the Faceless Men...I got to thinking - do you believe they have animal skins/hides & well their faces too (obviously, the entire skins) & use their blood magic to not just masquerade as other humans but animals as well? Skin-Changers* I guess I'm asking about as well. Thanks & have a good one! I've messaged you guys enough this week so I don't wanna make it a habit! On that note - THANKS so much for being so kind to uss your own precious time to reply to so many of us fanatics out here!!
Answering comments is actually kind of fun sometimes...doing it has allowed us to interact with fans from all over the world, and the questions people ask help strengthen our understanding of the story...it is getting a little more overwhelming as the channel has grown but we're going to do our best to keep up answering as many as we can for as long as it is possible...we believe the magic used by the faceless men is a more elaborate form of skinchanging...we delve into it a bit in the first two Faceless Men videos...there will be a third by Wednesday next week...we're going to try and have Tywin 2 ready by monday...
We have no idea what we should be doing...if UA-cam ever decides to actually pay us, which they still have not yet, we are going to make Order of the Green Hand shirts but that won't happen by tomorrow which is likely to be when we hit 5000...do you have any suggestions?
what a briliant job you two do. I'm so impressed, that i would like to translate your videos in german for the nerds in Deutschland, Schweiz and Österreich. THANX
so is that ok for you, that i will translate your videos 1 to 1. I have no commercial purposes, i just wanna do it because i like your theories and explications. Write me please bjoern-kurz@gmx.net
Thank you...it is amazing...we did this because no one else seemed to think what we did, thinking that no one would watch or care what we had to say..., never in our wildest dreams did we think we'd ever have 5k subscribers, let alone in 4 months
Apologies if this has been asked before, but if Bloodraven's huge red birthmark is so vital to his common nick-name, why do you guys think that he had no such marking in the show on HBO? Save $10 an episode on red makeup even though he was only in 5 episodes? Are we sure the man in the cave who taught Bran on the show IS the same man in the show?
Thank you, and yes as I say at the end of my question, then we are NOT sure he is Brynden Rivers in the show. That opens the door to a bigger question: If he ISN'T Blood-Raven, then who the heck is he? Maybe everything he said to Bran was a lie. Maybe *The Children* NEED someone tied into their magic tree internet service provider for their own power somehow. Now they let Bran flee in the show, but in the books one of the first things The Children do is to start constructing a "magic throne" for Bran just like the old man's in. Then they give him Jojen Paste, aka "The Kool-Aid". Maybe it's The Children's version of Roofies and Bran is about to have the longest date-rape of his life, only WORSE (mind-rape).....
8:38 that is Aenys the son of Aegon the Conqueror and Rhaenys. This is how Aerys looked like by Amok awoiaf.westeros.org/images/8/80/AERYS_I.jpg Pretty good video by the way.
I cant wait til Monday now! I love how much work you both put into these videos. I can't imagine how much of your personal time goes into this. thank you again, im obsessed with the show but you guys have made me order the books!
the answer to that is most of our free time is spent on it...but after we read the books the first time we spent about a year doing that anyways because neither of us have the patience to wait to find out in TWOW so we decided that we needed figure it all out ourselves...then after we did that, we tried to find someone else who thought what we did and couldn't so we decided to make a few videos and see what people thought of them
great video as always.. in the previous video (old nan) you said that there will be a Q&A, any idea when will that be? and if you guys could make a schedule or something for your videos that'll be great. love you guys, keep up the good job.
We are trying to figure out how we could get on a more regular schedule....the issue with it is each video requires a lot of research and depending on if we run into any snags/ parts of the theory that need more figuring before we move forward...our videos usually come together organically...we get started and let the research and the text take us where it goes...that makes it hard because some videos take us 5 days to do and others have taken us 8...in regards to the live Q&A, we are looking for a new camera to shoot it with and are having a Wolf's Den banner designed for it...it should be happening in the next few weeks...we will definitely be posting updates about it on our social media pages
The Order of the Green Hand I understand and your videos clearly been worked hard on, I appreciate that it's just that I don't want to miss a video (: and BTW are you guys planning to do another (why catelyn sucks) video?
We had to take a break from her because people got so mad at us that it almost killed our channel....I can't believe how personally people took it that we told them she sucks...especially since she does suck...I must have challenged 100 people to name a situation she makes better with her involvement and not one person could name one (because there isn't one) yet they were still completely unforgiving of our "treatment" of her (as if she was a real person)...but we're not the types to back down so as soon as we're done with Bloodraven we'll be back at it revealing to the world just how bad she sucks
The Order of the Green Hand that's ridiculous, I used to think of her as a good character until I watched your videos and you guys are pretty convincing. and about people hating it. well, by the words of Lord Alester Florent: Is it treason to say the truth? A bitter truth, but no less true for that.
A lot of people thought that about her because HBO seems to have gone out of their way to make her the strong leading lady of the show in the first few seasons...it starts with them reversing the roles of Ned and Catelyn when Robert offers him the Handship and continues throughout, but the only thing the two characters really have in common is the name
Bloodraven needs his own book!
Agreed
I`ve been saying that for years. Keep up the good work, don`t let the bastards grind you down.
I would like to see a spin off show of Arya and the Hound. The two could drift from town to town solving mysteries
The Piper Report sounds exactly like dunk and egg
Christopher Perez - I was thinking more like Scooby Doo, but Dunk and Egg works as well.
my favorite bastard. was very dissaponted in a the shows portrayal of him, it was just halfassed and no where as interesting as book brynden rivers
I'm not even convinced that guy was even Bloodraven...two eyes, no birthmark, had all his skin, wasn't albino, etc...
people said in the show that he is Bran future self.
Did they even say it in the show? Because you're right: that is definitely *not* Brynden Rivers
One Eye? Ravens? Sounds like a human Odin :)
I can't argue with that
Thyre1984 Not to mention, a sword that can kill the gods and a potential self-sacrificial death on (in) a tree.
And wolves - Odin had two wolves named Geri and Freki (both meaning "the ravenous" or "greedy one" in old Norse )along with his two ravens named Huginn and Muninn (witch means "Memory" and "Mind" in old Norse)
Nice catch. Odin's raven's name's mean "Thought and Memory" or so I've read.
@@Anacronian We can argue that Euron is BR's Geri and Freki and Bran his Huginn and Muninn!
The Brakens and the Blackwoods are the Bloods and Crips of Westeros.
they certainly appear to be
Hahaha
Or the Montagnes and Capulettos!
Hatfields vs Mccoys even 😂
More like the Hatfields and McCoys. Our story DOES include incest after all...
Rock on!
thank you so much...we had to take a break from Catelyn...telling the world the truth about her almost killed our channel...people got so mad at us you would think we were talking about their mothers and not about a fictional character that doesn't actually exist...we're going to finish up Bloodraven before we move forward with her...we've still only covered her first 5 POV chapters and she has already caused that much trouble, and she doesn't slow down after that, so there is plenty to come
The Order of the Green Hand
Well that's just silly that people freaked out. Anyone who boo's that is missing the true joy of these books. xoxo
agreed....thank you
"I have been many things, Bran. Now I am as you see me, and now you will understand why I could not come to you.... I have watched you for a long time, watched you with a thousand eyes and one" I can't wait for your theories about bloodraven. We know so much about him, yet so little.
We're already working on part 2...it should be ready by monday
Wait a minute!
He was a sorcerer, rumored to be able to turn into a dog and mist. He’s albino and the sun bothered his skin so he was always wearing a hood
Bloodraven might be a twist on depiction of vampires, who are often villains. In this case, he was no villain at all.
I’m ashamed that I didn’t notice this sooner, but that’s so cool.
Varys is Bloodravens child! It would explain the knowledge of the hidden passages & people don't recognize him when he comes & goes. Master of Whispers & putting the realm above all other.
agreed...we mention that in our Ned and Varys video I think
It could also be that Bloodraven maybe tips Varys off to different things to stay several moves ahead! He talks about his little birds are everywhere. In the show it is children. In the books.....
I prefer to believe that Melisandre is BloodRaven's daughter with Shiera!
Great assessment! I always felt that Bloodraven didn't get the credit he deserved from characters and fans alike. Can't wait for the next one!
thank you...we can't wait either....I'm pretty sure part 2 is going to be my favorite video we've made so far
The Order of the Green Hand it was definitely my favorite video that you two have made so far.
Moral of the story: Don't mess with Odin.
So cool!
thank you so much! haha we enjoy your comments and that you like our videos. thank you!! :)D
Wonder how he got stuck into a tree though....oh well time to watch part 2!
My new favourite channel discussing by far the most interesting character in the history of A Song of Ice and Fire.. Nice way to wake up..
+GerryBolger Glad we can help you get your day started
I won't lie, the coffee helped; ) Dare I ask if we'll be seeing a mad king series because his life is pretty much interesting from day one..
we are starting to put together a list of requested topics and will begin addressing them when we are done with the topics we have already begun researching
Bloodraven is a JERK
I'm just now going through all the auxiliary novellas of ASoIaF. Great video as always, I love to see anything from your channel pop up in my alerts; lots of smart and in-depth analysis. I appreciate the tie-ins of symbolism and history George uses in his writing as well, and it's awesome that you pick up on those too.
Thank you...his other works are fantastic as well...the Princess and the Queen is harder to follow unless you have a Targaryen family tree and a list of which dragon is whose in front of you while you're going through it...that's what we had to do to understand what was really happening
Yay! Been looking forward to this. Thank you both for all you do.
Thank you for watching
That quote about ruling with fear if you cannot rule with both fear *and* love is quintessentially Danaerys S8 EP5+6
I always thought bloodraven planned on being sent to the Wall
it seems possible...he seems like a man who wants to go where the answers are
i like how at 2:05 you guys used a picture of sorin markhov for bloodraven MTG baybeeeee
Brynden Markhov 3(bbb)
+2 Brynden Markhov deals 2 damage to target wight or white walker and you gain 2 life
- 3 Target white walker's life total becomes 10
- 7 You control target green seerer's next green dream
4
Pretty sure that's not Aerys you showed, it's Aenys.
Hey guys, I hope you know that some of your images of Bloodraven are from a Magic: the Gathering card Sorin Markov. This video was great! Keep up the good work!
haha...half the time we don't have a clue what the picture we use actually are, but finding decent pictures of non-show characters is difficult sometimes and in an effort not to use the same picture over and over again, we end up "proclaiming" that a random picture is a character we need a picture of
Awesome video as always. Well thought out, researched and support. You guys rock! Always looking forward to watching your new videos.
Thank you...the next Bloodraven video should be out by Monday
Guys your videos are beyond amazing. I only found you a few days ago but have caught up and all your stuff is mind blowing and at this point i will be really surprised if most of it doesn't turn out to be true in the books. I have seen many many theory videos but yours are probably the best I have seen with the best evidence and most amount of clue finding in the words and wording of the text. Fantastic job guys keep it up
thank you so much! we appreciate it.
I'm thinking Aemon had a hand in Bloodravens rise to Lord commander much as he must have done with Jon!?
You'd think Aemon did not catch on to the maesters true nature..
I love your channel. keep up the great work. It's a wonderful day when I discover you've released a new one
Thank you...we're hard at work on Bloodraven and the Weirwoods as we speak
Bloodraven might try to do something to save the realm and even himself, he might try to brainwash Brandon starks in order to both awaken his warg and takeover his body for a good reason to try to save the realm from the others, bran is not good enough to save everyone, bloodraven is dying he may need a new body and he has a lot of information and more experience in warging.
I'll save my thoughts on what he will do next for part 2, but everything he does appears to be for the good of the realm
Your videos are always so intriguing... please keep doing more! Your opinions on the truth behind the series is very enlightening!
thank you!
The Order of the Green Hand You're welcome!
(p.p.s. & that's crazy high praise from this non-apologizing self-proclaimed STAR WARS-slappy! XD !!! )
thank you...it is always good to hear that our hard work is appreciated
The Order of the Green Hand It is!!! The _GREATS_ always make it look & seem effortless... but it's masterful, & truly a joy to watch!! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
Thank you for watching
It's also worth noting that although Aegon V did have Bloodraven sent to The Wall, he let him keep Dark Sister.
Just found your channel and glad I did! Awesome video and keep em coming!!!:)
Thank you...we will
well I just found my new favorite thing on UA-cam. these videos are fantastic!
Thank you so much
Another amazing video, so thorough. Thanks for your commitment to excellence!
Thank you for being awesome Jim
An albino with long white hair and red eyes... you can tell Martin is an Elric fan. Valyria is clearly similar to Melniboné with the dragons and unholy magic
as always just brilliant.love your work.just like game of thrones, your playlists are worth multiple viewings.congrats on 5K
Thank you on all accounts
I am so excited to hear your thoughts on BR north of the wall! I believe that is a great turning point in the story, what transpires north of the wall. I shouldn't watch these before bed, now I'm going to be up all night thinking about it lol.
hahaha...sorry to get you fired up...I'll do my best to get the next vid out earlier in the day for you
Thanks!
I've always wondered: if Bloodraven was both born and raised in King's Landing, unlike Aegor, who was raised in the Riverlands, why is he named Lord Rivers instead of Lord Waters?
The last name of bastards is decided after where the mothers are from
Such as Joffrey tommen and myrcella they would be hill as cersie was from the westerlands
Ramsay is a snow as his mother was from the north
Jon is a snow as at the beginning of the story his mother is unknown and his father is from the north
The sand snakes mothers aren’t known so they are snakes after there father
Aegor is a rivers as his mother is from the riverlands
Waters is only used if the father is from the crow lands and the mothers birth place is unknown
ooh yeah can't wait for the juicy part!
-off topic.. do you think Pretty Meris is actually Tysha? I've no grounds on this nor have I looked it up
Thank you...I can't see Tysha being her, but you never know...there are a few interesting parallels
I always wondered what it was like having Lord Commander Blood Raven and Maester Aemon Targaryen at the wall together. And I never heard a good theory on why he disappears North of the wall. looking forward to the next video
we're almost there with Part 2 of the series
Their relationship could have been like the one that Jon and Sam have!
Thanks guys. great video as always. I've always been fascinated by Blood Raven. Seven Blessings
Seven Blessings to you as well...thank you for watching
Bloodraven1 was amazing going deeper, even into greek mythology. You guys are on a new level
Thank you so much
Bloodraven.... NEVERMORE NEVERMORE........... I mean GIVE ME MORE, GIVE ME MORE!!!!!
Part 2 should be online monday
Rather watch that than the Super Bowl!!!!!!
Isn't that the damn truth. I don't get the entire Super Bowl experience - it's nothing but hype, and the wrong kind of hype at that. I'll probably be re-watching Westworld all day Sunday :)
Thank you
Michael Tunnell Prophet! Said I, thing of evil. Prophet yet if bird or devil! Yeah, Poe knew....
you guys are the best! I have been looking up blood raven all last week and bam, here it is!
thank you!
Great video guys. One of your best yet. Keep up the good work
thank you!
when he was legitimized, shouldn't he be called Brynden Targaryen?
I have been thinking about this quite a while!
Your channel is awesome! great work
Thank you
Awesome stuff!
Not talking about the possibility that Jaime and Cersei could be Aerys Targaryen's bastards, Just like Brynden and Shiera were Aegon's Great Bastards!
Killing Aenys Blackfyre was definently a bitch move.
Great video, I been waiting for this video and can't wait for the next one
thank you!
Can’t leave the Blackfish off this list, aka The BlackGOAT
Just like all of your vids I enjoyed it. I look for yours every day to make sure I didn't miss one and I've watched some more than once. I started following you early on. Good job. Yet I still can't accept R+L=J. Old man, old mind.
Thank you...I recognized your photo as someone I've been interacting with on here since our earliest videos...and we don't accept R+L=J either so I totally understand
Love this channel! I can't get enough asoif backstory. Have you two ever thought of covering any other stories from GRRM?
Hello!
Many thanks for doing the hard work and creating some of the highest-quality analysis out there.
ps R+L= is canon on the show ONLY not in books.
I swear, Hellsi-..I mean, Alucar-..[sigh] Goddamn it! Bloodraven's(yes!)appearance comes straight out of Legacy of Kain.
Finally someone gives Bloodraven the love he deserves.
Idk. what do you think evidence wise?
you guys rock!
Thank you
The Order of the Green Hand where was House Stark in all this? And House Mormont ?
strange that house lothston fought for the Blackfyres but donella lothston is counted among blood ravens allies during the tourney of white walls.
thats an interesting observation. i also just found that there is a Lothston enlisted with the Golden Company.
I've always been a Blackfyre at heart. Daemon was the rightful king
this is a great channel, love all the videos as I haven't been able to get to all the sidebooks yet. I've only been able to read the ice and fire series.
thank you...the other books are really informative and the Dunk and Egg Stories are phenomenal
This channel is amazing, any chance of a video on Patchface?
you are not the first to make the request for a patchface video...I'm going through our comment section later today and making a list of the requests we have received and when we are done with what we are currently working on already, we will start on the requests and will do them in the order based on how many requests we have received for any given topic
that's awesome news I'll be watching no matter what goes up anyway but patchface is already a very alluring and interesting character. Putting your critical thinking to that will be an amazing video.
To be honest he freaks me out...there's definitely something not right about his character and if I was stannis I wouldn't let that creature anywhere near my daughter
Ryverend Plague Patchface is the drowned god, i know i know!
The Order of the Green Hand Oh come i will deliver your firstborn if you make that video!
question I don't mean to disrespect because blood raven is one of my favorites but could shear have picked BR. because of blood magic. could that be the reason they never married
Thanks for the reply and I look forward to the next video.
thank you again and agreed about the vale
+The Order of the Green Hand but not participating?
It doesn't say but based on their words I would be willing to bet they showed up when the Tyrells called the banners
Lots of hard work going into these videos! Great job!
Wondering if y'all might be willing to make a compilation video of RRM interviews sharing all his clues and what they may mean?
Thank you...maybe at some point...right now we have 10+ videos planned, but after that who knows
The Order of the Green Hand ,yes he did. Isent it mentioned that a dwarf could fit in the pricey to steal the crown?
elsie...yes...the dwarfs stole the dragon egg in The Mystery Knight by going up the privy pipe into Lord Butterwall's bedchamber
Guess Who lol.i love Roy Dotrice.
The Order of the Green Hand what's your guys's opinion on the Great Empire of the Dawn= Dragonlords & The ancestors of Valyria Theory?...
there isn't enough evidence to support a theory one way or another...I do find it interesting
Anyone ever commented on the fact that you sound like Corey Feldman? Love your videos, even if I don't agree with all your theories. They are always well thought out and always interesting. Keep them coming.
+Ryan Littrell I think so too! -lady greenhand
Yeah Order of Greenhand thanks for the content provided!
Thank you for watching
Seriously this is a great channel, helping me with all the details I missed
Thank you. Be careful with the next few videos. I think this was when we first bought our song and I still had no idea what I was doing with audio editing and the songs were way too loud
The Order of the Green Hand good looking out :) I’m sure it won’t bother me, yall have given me such a good outlet for my bedrest energy 🙌🏼🌺💕
I adhere to the theory that claims that Shiera Seastar is actually Quaithe.
true
It is not an theory, it's the truth!
Please do a video on Quaith.
Your Theories are amazing.
Thank you...she's going to get her own video soon
My absolute favorite character from ASOIF.
Question, who do you guys think is the ''brother i loved''? Daeron or Daemon?
Brother he loved=Daeron...hated=Bittersteel
I always had the feeling he was talking about Daemon :(
That would make things much more interesting, the fact he killed him for the sake of the realm and all
Loved or hated Daemon? from your response it seems like you meant loved, which is entirely possible because Daemon was said to be a great guy, but from the fact that his mother was tight with Daeron and his mother and Aemon the Dragonknight, it seems likely that BR was tight with them too...after all, he was the next to wield Aemon the Dragonknight's sword Dark Sister
I think it was Blackfyre
@@DhDeadMan As maester Aemon said: "Love is the death of duty", and I imagine Daemon and Brynden having a relationship like Robb and Jon's relationship!
Idk, I find him very complicated but in many ways an example of why "By any means necessary" and "The ends justify the means" mentality is so poisonous. He definitely has heroic parts to him, but he's also capable of anything he can justify. Dangerous to say the least.
BloodRaven!! 🤘🏽
Oh, and I'm sure this has been answered before..here or wherever..so, sorry..**
Answering comments is actually kind of fun sometimes...doing it has allowed us to interact with fans from all over the world, and the questions people ask help strengthen our understanding of the story...it is getting a little more overwhelming as the channel has grown but we're going to do our best to keep up answering as many as we can for as long as it is possible...we believe the magic used by the faceless men is a more elaborate form of skinchanging...we delve into it a bit in the first two Faceless Men videos...there will be a third by Wednesday next week...we're going to try and have Tywin 2 ready by monday...
and don't worry about wearing out your welcome...as long as people are respectful we don't mind
Neat video. Just curious, do you have anything planned for when you reach 5000 subscribers? I'm sure it'll happen soon.
We have no idea what we should be doing...if UA-cam ever decides to actually pay us, which they still have not yet, we are going to make Order of the Green Hand shirts but that won't happen by tomorrow which is likely to be when we hit 5000...do you have any suggestions?
The Order of the Green Hand Other than a series recap (of your series to be specific) I can't see having a better idea than you guys.
The Order of the Green Hand WHY CATELYN SUCKS PART 2!!!
they have already done part 2. But we need part 3
Yeaaa!!!
what a briliant job you two do. I'm so impressed, that i would like to translate your videos in german for the nerds in Deutschland, Schweiz and Österreich. THANX
thank you! thats an honor
so is that ok for you, that i will translate your videos 1 to 1. I have no commercial purposes, i just wanna do it because i like your theories and explications. Write me please bjoern-kurz@gmx.net
absolutely
congrat to over 5000 subscribers
Thank you...it is amazing...we did this because no one else seemed to think what we did, thinking that no one would watch or care what we had to say..., never in our wildest dreams did we think we'd ever have 5k subscribers, let alone in 4 months
can't wait for part two I so look forward to your videos keep it up guys your great xxx
thank you!
Apologies if this has been asked before, but if Bloodraven's huge red birthmark is so vital to his common nick-name, why do you guys think that he had no such marking in the show on HBO? Save $10 an episode on red makeup even though he was only in 5 episodes? Are we sure the man in the cave who taught Bran on the show IS the same man in the show?
that is a great question...I'm not convinced that he was Bloodraven in the show...they gave him two eyes too
Thank you, and yes as I say at the end of my question, then we are NOT sure he is Brynden Rivers in the show.
Bloodraven is the direct ancestor of Podrick Payne; it's why Pod is also a Sex-God!
Noice, another great vid,,, im getting addicted
Thank you
Bloodraven is so fucking interresting!
8:38 that is Aenys the son of Aegon the Conqueror and Rhaenys. This is how Aerys looked like by Amok awoiaf.westeros.org/images/8/80/AERYS_I.jpg
Pretty good video by the way.
Excellent video. : )
Thank you
Is he actually an albino? The white(pale) hair could be from his father, while his red eyes are a greenseer trait as told by jojen reed...
I'm so excited...thank you for the new video...haven't watched it yet...made my night!!
Thank you...hope you like it
The Order of the Green Hand Loved it! I can't wait for the next one. I'll be watching this one a few more times while I'm waiting.
We plan on getting part 2 out by monday
The Order of the Green Hand I understand and your videos clearly been worked hard on, I appreciate that it's just that I don't want to miss a video (:
and BTW are you guys planning to do another (why catelyn sucks) video?
When showing sides for black and red dragons, you guys have house Hightower on both sides, where they split ?
love yall"s videos! thank u !!!!
Thank you for watching
Nice video, guys!
thank you melissa
Always a pleasure!
The Sorin Markov Picture used for Blood Raven cracks me up
Blood Raven orchestrated it all. He saw the path in his sorcery, and he created it.
