    Just dropping in to say this young gal thinks you’re just fabulous. Your videos are my recent go to in the shop during those “I’ll bet there’s something I’m overlooking here..” moments.
    There’s something so very grounding about your voice/ cadence that helps me with my ‘failure frustration’ haha.
    I’m very grateful of your transparency when sharing your mistakes while creating such a validating and encouraging channel.
    ANYWAYS, I gotta stop myself before I start really rambling lol.. I just wanted to share the impact you had on one gal.
    Can’t wait to see what you have to share next time 🙂

      Thanks, Carie! Your comment made my day! And I join you with my own failure frustration. Sometimes I think I'm genetically incapable of doing things right. I mean, I guess in all honesty I tend to do a lot of things right, but dang it if I don't mess up one or twenty things in a project. At least I don't feel alone, and you shouldn't either! 😄 Thanks again. 🙂

    I'm considering getting the ryobi nailer myself. A lot of people knock ryobi... But the drills are used at my work by the whole shop. All day, everyday. And when they come up with a new model, the old batteries still work with new tool.

    • @TheNewbieWoodworker
      @TheNewbieWoodworker  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, I've never really had problems with anything Ryobi. And it's hard to argue with actual customer reviews. I'm still not sure about the depth issue - I know how to adjust it, maybe I wasn't turning it far enough. I'll spend some time on that this week.

    Harbor Freight sells these squeeze bottles in packs of three. Best thing ever for glue. Been using them for years. I do not understand why anyone likes the Gluebots. They are a clogging nightmare.
    Hope you have better luck with the Ryobi than I did. Keep the exit for the nails nice and clean and give it a spritz of lube occasionally. Mine constantly would misfire if it wasn't squeaky clean. Plenty of power, though. That thing would sink a 2" brad into solid oak without breaking a sweat.
    Love the coat joke. :-)

      I use the plastic mustard and ketchup bottles. Clean them out real good and fill one with titebond 2 and one with TB3. 5ey are designed to set on the top so the glue is always ready to squeeze out.

    Don't buy ryobi on amazon. It is only sold at home depot. All the amazon stuff is refurbished and returns and has no warranty. You take a big risk and some times its even more expensive.

    Funny Dad joke! I use a miter box like yours whenever I want a really accurate cut. IMHO it would have been pretty unsafe to cut those small pieces on a 12" miter saw. You did the right thing. Love the result. Thanks for doing this.

    "I need a new coat, NOW!", (s)he said. "But all the stores are closed due to the lockdown", (s)he continued. "I have a solution for that. Come outside".
    I grabbed a tin of blue spray paint and in no time (s)he had a new coat. (s)he wasn't satisfied, though.

    I almost bought glue bottles until I discovered French’s mustard bottles have a ‘snap back’ cap which keeps the cap out of the way while running a thin bead of glue on an edge. They also have a fairly small opening which has been helping me avoid having glue all over everything. Was your glue extremely runny because it’s old? How long does it take for that to happen? I bought 2 gallons of 2 different glues which should last me quite a while.
    Oh yeah, have you given up the name Newbie Dan?

    • @TheNewbieWoodworker
      @TheNewbieWoodworker  3 роки тому +1

      I love the name "Newbie Dan", and in fact a version of that is my personalized license plate. But honestly, I'm not a newbie anymore, and I was getting enough comments about it (not negative comments, just comments) that I just got tired of replying the same thing to them. So now "I'm Dan Thomas, and welcome to my channel for the newbie woodworker. Or anyone, really." I think it's more "on point" anyway. 😄
      Regarding glue, I bought a big jug of Titebond 2 several years ago, and I've only used about half of it. Mostly because when I use Baltic Birch plywood and Spax screws, I rarely need glue. The screws hold up quite well, and I can remove them if I ever need to. The glue got so thick in the jug that I had to add a small amount of water, which worked out fine, but I have no idea how thick or thin it's supposed to be. 😂 All that to say that I'm no expert on glue. But I just bought a squeeze bottle of Titebond 3 because I needed a longer set time, and it's runny by default, so maybe T2 is supposed to be runny also.
      Regarding bottles, I just bought these from Amazon amzn.to/3nJr4lX and they're perfect. Not too large, and plenty of them so I can cut the tips to different sizes. Way better than the GluBot, in my opinion.

    Great video and unlike all the rest of the projects done by people with 40 years of woodworking experience on YTube who do everything perfectly the first time, your snowflake has some personality and shows that a real human being actually made it! I have been using my Ryobi Brad Nailer for about a year now. Great nailer however it is quite bulky. I also have an air powered Grex pin nailer that is really cool. Ryobi sells a battery powered air compressor that weighs about 5 pounds, that fits underneath my assembly table. You should really go look at one. They are just powerful enough for nailers. Hardly any more trouble to carry around than the Ryobi.

    Great video, I will try this later. Might try and use the router to cut some channels in the two outer "bars" for the inner bar to rest in (it will be flatter and less 3d than yours but I think maybe a little less prone to flex/wiggle, plus it will be fun to route a groove at a strange angle)

    I thought the snowflake is great! I have both the Ryobi brad nailer and the pin nailer, love them! You won't be disappointed. I have also had similar problems with the gluebot and glue drying. I have found that you can add a small amount of water to reconstitute the glue and a small diameter dowel and pipe cleaners eventually clean out the bottle.

    • @TheNewbieWoodworker
      @TheNewbieWoodworker  3 роки тому

      Thanks! And thanks for the tip. I may try using the disposable method for a while, and see how that works out - especially since I don't use that much glue (at least not yet).

    • @bassrun101
      @bassrun101 3 роки тому

      Garry not Linda. Actually a little white vinegar mixes with the glue better and makes much shorter work of cleaning a glue brush. I never thought the Glue Bot was a good idea for the home shop it's more of a production tool. I agree with one of the other commenters. Unless you are doing large projects on a regular basis only keep small quantities of glue on hand. I can't tell you the number of times I've had glue skin over in a container less than half full causing a quick trip to the hardware store.

    We have a new lockdown and no snow! So I've just decided to make my own snowflakes. With a little luck they won't be red.
    Unfortunately, the link to the plans doesn't work. Something is missing. With try and error I came to the plans .
    (it seems only /projects is missing somewhere in between.
    I wish you a nice Christmas holidays and all the best for 2021

    • @TheNewbieWoodworker
      @TheNewbieWoodworker  3 роки тому

      Thanks, Hans! And especially thanks for telling be about the link. It was missing the colon after "https". I've been working on improving the snowflake-making process, and one thing I'm doing is cutting part "B" as one single piece, instead of two pieces with miter cuts. So basically I cut a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square. Then I stand up the piece and clamp it to my miter gauge, raise my blade to 2", and make two cuts to leave the L-shaped piece. I'll post something about it later. The original way works too, so no worries if what I described doesn't make sense. 😄 All the best to you too!
