As a Mexican, I can tell is true. Sometimes, people in Mexico have misconceptions about black people because of Hollywood movies and TV shows. And that's why some people in Mexico think black people are very poor, may be doing some illegal activity, try to steal something, belong to a criminal gang or have illegal guns, and I know is not true. But is the same perception a lot of foreigners have about Mexicans too. I am just glad the perception about black people in Mexico is changing. We need more black people come and visit Mexico, so we can learn of eachother. I live in the U.S. now, and I interact with more diverse population, and love it. Mexico has the greatest culture in all of America and one of the most important in the world, many things to see and learn from ancient cultures and traditions that you will not find in America, only in Mexico.
So anoyed with Anthony L Hogan, Mexico is not a poor country if you compared it to other countries in terms of GDP. Mexico City alone tops the GDP of major countries, like Peru, Paraguay, most central american coutries and other major cities around the world. Pot holes does not define Mexico's richness or poorness. Meixico is the 15 economy in the world which does not makes it a poor country. Poor countries are those that can't sustain themselves like in Africa. Mexico its not perfect, but its getting better!!
GDP is not an indicator of how people live! Mexico it’s a poor country, it’s economy might not be, but that only helps people investing in it. Still most of the people is poor and like 30 millions still live in extreme poverty. GDP is a macroeconomic indicator only.
Thank you for this. My wife is from Mexico (dual citizen now), but wants me to retire there in 3 years. I have done trade shows in Mexico City, but that's it. I can speak a little spanish and getting fluent will be easy, but this video really helped me a Black man. Well, I am mixed and have Cuban ancestry, but... At any rate, this helped convicted me. The last guy contradicts himself, he saying "I understand it's poor country" while he was walking in a very beautiful and modern financial avenue, in what poor country you can find that?!...first tipically misconception about México, and he complain against a tiny hole in a drian cover, meanwhile Michigan to New Jersey are full of big potholes...almost a disrespect.
Lol what it’s a fair complaint even Mexicans complain about this, and idk about you but one city DOESNT represent the whole country. It’s the capitol of course they’re gonna pour more money into it. Leave the dude alone he clearly knows the country probly better than most of you, this coming from a Mexican in Mexico City. CDMX is definitely not perfect and there’s a lot of economic and social inequality.

I remember walking US streets, squeaky clean and predictable. You didn't have to think about so many things that you become bored. In Mexico, sidewalks are um.. dynamic, your brain is constantly scanning the surroundings otherwise you might step on dog poop, crash against a tree, slip, etc etc.. IMHO Mexican brains are wired differently in a good way and that helps put dementia at bay a little longer.
hahaha now it turns out that walking down the street, you step on dog poop and you mess with trees... don't say stupid things, everything is like that.
Actually Mexico City has less dog šh*t than many American cities and neighbourhoods... About the trees, well you probably aren't very skilled to walk. More on.
Agreed that Escandón is a great area. Not touristy, yet lots to do around and close to the other neighborhoods. Do y’all have any tips on how not to contribute to the whole foreigners driving rent prices up and displacing locals?

The interviews were very helpful. We just recently moved from Morocco and decided to come to Mexico City for a month before heading home to Miami for the summer. I'm currently in Roma and I love the vibe of the city and the surround areas. This is our first weekend, so I'm looking forward to checking out a spots this evening. A few ppl have recommended that I check out Zona Rosa for drinks and a good night out. I'm open to any other suggestions. Thanks in advance!
As a citizen who lives in Iztapalapa, I confirm what Anthony says. Fun fact: Iztapalapa is the most populated borough in the city(almost 2 million people), therefore, it is highly deficient in many ways. If you are a foreigner wanting to live in CDMX, here are some suggested boroughs you might want to search: Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Tlalpan, Miguel Hidalgo, Alvaro Obregon. If you want to live the authentic CDMX lifestyle then like Ivana said, "You gotta be open", because our culture will test you. I end my comment with a quote from Salvador Dalí, “De ninguna manera volveré a México. No soporto estar en un país más surrealista que mis pinturas” English: “There is no way I will go back to Mexico. I can't stand being in a country more surreal than my paintings”. And I think that says a lot about Mexico. Great video, btw.
Great video! Thank you for the honest perspective from different people. It's nice to see that you have some connections there. We hope to find our place soon.
I was born in CDMX although I don’t remember much since I moved to Guanajuato when I was 2 y/o and LA when I was 13 y/o I still love stopping in CDMX to enjoy everything it has to offer. Glad to see folks from abroad enjoy it also!!!
There are a lot of good neighborhoods south of the city such as Guadalupe Inn, Florida, San Jose Insurgentes, San Antonio, Mixcoac, Del Valle, Narvarte, Portales, Tlalpan Centro (as you mentioned, it is far but at the same time it has its own character)
I saw you guys the other day next to the IMJUVE bikes! glad to see you're enjoying the city. And you're right about the holes on the street and about everything being super crowded.
Hi, I just want to point that Anthony needs more information about Mexico , first off all Mexico is in the 9 place richest countries in the world. Second point is rich in culture ,culinary , history and more. I live in Colorado and believe me there's a lot of streets in a very bad shape over here too!! A little advice for foreigners learn a bit of history of the country you'll visit. Thank you for your video and let me know what blackUS people think about Mexico .👍 Hope you enjoy the beauty of Mexico. Remember that every country is Unico!!
I know he was just complaining the whole time like if the city revolves around him, he said mexico is poor and he lives in a nice area smfh 🤦🏽... Pero que esperas si asi son esa gente, ni aqui en estados unidos los quieren y luego con comentarios asi quieren que uno los quiera en paises ajenos..
While I agree that Mexico is not poor, you have your facts a tad wrong. Mexico is the 15th largest economy in the world, not 9th. Also, large economy does not equate to being rich. You see, Mexico economy is large, but its GDP per capita is low at $18k USD. Individual wealth is what qualifies a country as rich. The USA has the largest economy in the world. It’s GDP per capita income is $64k USD. But, Luxembourg, while much smaller, and obviously with a minuscule economy compared to both the USA and Mexico, is considered the richest country in the world because it’s GDP per capita is a whopping $140k USD. So USA and Mexico have much larger economies due to sheer size, but pound for pound, a little country like Luxembourg is much richer because people’s salaries and standard of living are much higher. Simple economics 101.
Good video! Thank you for informations and for sharing. I watched your video from Ottawa Canada. I will go to visit Mexico City next year. ✌🏽and love ❤️
I wish all the black community can go to all Mexican country and enjoy all the goodness that we have to share with our hearts. I'm on Illinois and I have lot of black friends and I loved feel good and enjoy
A lot of people are digital nomads and working remotely. I watched a few videos of some younger women (30’s-early 40’s) that were on sabbatical or were military retired. I think a lot of people are remote workers (in tech spaces) though. I’ll be doing the same when I’m ready to finally make the move. I’ve gotten a few certifications in preparation.
Remote work. I only do 1099 work BECAUSE employee sometimes it too restricting for flight days and transitioning into a new place for the month. Employees have to ask for too much permission. Just my opinion on why I chose 1099 work.
Should also keep in mind that any kinds of passive income in the us goes far in most other countries than it does in the US for example some people can be disabled veterans receiving compensations and you dont even have to be 100% but can still earn enough to live fairly comfortably in other countries.
@@EbsMileHighAdventure what certifications do you have? I've been looking at Salesforce. I want a remote W2. I'd rather stay away from 1099 work, I want to still max out pretax accounts.
I was there last week. I'm in Merida this week. I'm going home to pack up and will be back by the 1st of October. I was in CDMX for 10 minutes and was I need to live here so I am! It's a beautiful place and I already miss it.
Mexico is very welcoming. It is much cheaper to do anything. Education is free. Health care is free. There are caveats to education and health care but if you learn the rules of the game it’s pretty good. I grew up and graduated in EE in Mexico, I even had a special government scholarship in college. I always wanted to live in the U.S. and I did migrate. I paid for my own Master’s in the U.S. and I was considering returning to Mexico because I missed the culture a lot. For me it was about the people and how we relate to friends and family. In Mexico you are never alone. I met my wife during my master’s and I stayed in the U.S., don’t get me wrong. I love the U.S. too. I wish the U.S. were more more into Friends and Family, I feel like the individualistic approach to the U.S. takes away from its greatness. But I am happy here now since I made a family here now. Mexico’s big problem is that there is little individual responsibility. I think it comes from the Spanish days. This results in all the issues people hear about (cartels, insecurity) but also in other issues people usually don’t know. Example. Corn comes from Mexico but nowadays Mexico is a net corn importer, even though there are vast valleys that are wonderful because water can be plentiful in many regions of the country. Yet as a society Mexico cannot get organized well enough. Acre corn productivity is laughable. There is the legacy of corn production and the amount of people to do it at the grandest of scales. But as a society Mexico lives in a slower mindset a bit too relaxed. And that has an effect on people’s lives. I will tell you this though. Mexicans are happy people. :)
Interesting views. It's never good to compare. I live in LA and work on pedestrian safety and transportation all community grassroots and there are similar situations here as well as gentrification which resulted not only in congested places and hiked up rents pushing long time neighbors/people out.
I’m writing this as of December 2023. I recently returned from Mexico City. I like the city, but the traffic is too much. I’m a retired U.S. citizen, I traveled a lot, and I plan to make Puerto Vallarta my home.
Thank you very much for showing the world that Mexico is not what the news makes you think, I am from the beautiful city of Mexico and I think we are a country exactly like any other city, we can compete with Europe, Asia, Australia because it is simply beautiful full of activities, food, culture and much more
@@g1g4_ch4d7 Mexico can compete with any country We can make it to the World Cup We can make it to the Olympic Mexico is beautiful, our historic is amazing, amazing buildings We survived 3 strong earthquakes So, why ?????
I am new. to the subject, although I. was born and. rised in México city a few years ago I came to live to Cuernavaca it's. clear. that. many things. had. changed since those days, there. was. a time. when you could hear no one speaking in english or. any other major language, when the crime rates. rose, not. even. the braves tourists did not . dare. to come, but now. I am very. glad. that Mexico is recieving such quantities. of Americans,, now. a second. wave. should. realice that there. are many other places in the country. where. you will be. welcome and. which by the way. are also very beautiful with the taste of the province, I am sure that. with a. good. eye. you would be able to find. a very. good. home here in México
As a Mexican I can say that racism is a problem here but mostly towards our own people. Mexicans and Latinos in general are very kind and open to tourists and foreigners, no matter their race. I don’t think we dislike black people at all, it’s just what Lupita Nyongo once said, people will stare at you like if you were Beyoncé or a celebrity, not because they don’t like you, perhaps it’s that many of us don’t have black friends or never met black people in person, so many of us can feel a little amazed and excited and we will stare at y’all for a long period of time but we will be kind to you, as we always are with any foreigner. So don’t feel bad about it, many people is a little ignorant, many is just interested in getting to know you but they’re afraid or embarrassed to say it.

True I agree. I’m sorry
Yes. That last guy needs to move back to the USA. He just doesn't get it.
It's his city now, so, he has the right to complain, right? He wants to make things better!
She literally ASKED HIM what he doesn’t love about living in Mexico City. Why isn’t he allowed to answer?
Love this video. It is very informative ❤️
Thanks for watching, Audrey! 💛
More on.
Come to downtown LA, all the homeless tweakers will keep you entertained 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@NobleWolf33 A few blocks don't make a country. Cheers.
Agreed that Escandón is a great area. Not touristy, yet lots to do around and close to the other neighborhoods. Do y’all have any tips on how not to contribute to the whole foreigners driving rent prices up and displacing locals?
Thanks for sharing this video, Roshida!! You asked great questions and the answers were really helpful. So wish I was there. Continue having a wonderful time
I love living in Mexico City as black person.... 8 years and counting.... first people I met was Uncle Cleveland and Shamar.... this is Wardell... Cheers!
Wow, I really enjoyed this!!!!!! Thank you for sharing this and I look forward to seeing more from this channel!!!!!
My wife and I dream living in that country one day. Maybe, it will end-up just as a Dream, I don't know.
Aww. We only have one life. Do what is best for yalls happiness
@@r3drift Thank you!
Kudos to the last interviewee for not being so diplomatic and telling it like he sees it.
He was just a whining the whole time ..
Just move cities if you don't like it instead of complaining like a toddler throwing a fit ...
Great video and content. Thanks you! It would also be interesting to know what brought all of them to the city.
Love and appreciate the neighborhood suggestions and hearing the interviewees perspectives.
I really felt like I was walking with out. So very helpful. Gracias!
Thank you for this walking chat style interview! There was a lot of great recommendations from lived experiences 👏 which are the best kind, I feel.
Loved the walk and talk Shida!!! Great video!!
We love, respect and admire you girls. Please consider yourselves welcome! ❤
Great interviews Shida, thank you everyone for sharing☀️
I saw you guys the other day next to the IMJUVE bikes! glad to see you're enjoying the city. And you're right about the holes on the street and about everything being super crowded.
I'm coming soon watching this gives me more confidence.
Welcome to México lindo y querido,.. we are glad that you all came to visit us.. comeback soon !!!
I loved this. A nice change up to the usual videos
Thank you for your video and let me know what blackUS people think about Mexico .👍
Hope you enjoy the beauty of Mexico.
Simple economics 101.
also a thing to note is that Mexico City is built on a lake so its a dying battle fixing the sidewalks because the city sinks.
Good video! Thank you for informations and for sharing. I watched your video from Ottawa Canada.
I will go to visit Mexico City next year. ✌🏽and love ❤️
Thank you fun walking and sightseeing with y’all
I wish all the black community can go to all Mexican country and enjoy all the goodness that we have to share with our hearts. I'm on Illinois and I have lot of black friends and I loved feel good and enjoy
Great video ...so good to hear from people who have lived there for many years versus several months. Thanks for sharing!
What do these young, non-retirement age folks do for a living that allows them to live in Mexico city for so long?? Please. I need answers.
Digital nomad, investments, working remotely etc.
Shida, I really enjoyed this watch, thank you for this video, it was fun, enjoyed hearing the many perspectives
This is excellent content for prospective expats. Even for me, as someone who probably wont move to Mexico City it's helpful. Thanks!
Ok ...Do not come...
Ten tu cabeza amplia, nada es perfecto en esta vida.
I was there last week. I'm in Merida this week. I'm going home to pack up and will be back by the 1st of October. I was in CDMX for 10 minutes and was I need to live here so I am! It's a beautiful place and I already miss it.
I'm black and proud and I love Mexico and I love all my Mexicans brothers and sisters especially I like to celebrate #Hispanicheritagemonth.🖤🇲🇽❤
Mexico City is in my bucket list 💯 hopefully god willing to live in this magical city in the future 😍
Yea!!!! I want to visit neighborhoods while I’m there
Now you have some to add to your list! 💛
Hola, really enjoyable video. I live in the Yucatan. Maybe I'll visit one day.
Great video. I actually love Mexico City. I agree with most of the guests.
Cool beans
It should be free for its citizens, so for the people moving down there, do they pay heavy fees for a Visa and health care?
Mexico is not a poor country. It is a country that is poorly governed.
Enjoyed this a lot!
Nice video. I love Mexico City. Hope fully one day I will be able to move there too.
I live in UK and I'm disabled and I've noticed how bad the side walks are here very uneven too in London
Interesting views. It's never good to compare. I live in LA and work on pedestrian safety and transportation all community grassroots and there are similar situations here as well as gentrification which resulted not only in congested places and hiked up rents pushing long time neighbors/people out.
Great video and content
Thanks for watching, Tess 💛
great video I am from Israel Tel Aviv came here 13 years ago and I am still in love with this city and this country.
I’m writing this as of December 2023. I recently returned from Mexico City. I like the city, but the traffic is too much. I’m a retired U.S. citizen, I traveled a lot, and I plan to make Puerto Vallarta my home.
So excited to see this video! I just moved to Mexico City, and would love to meet up with more Black folks. Is there a way to get in touch with y'all?
First time that I see one of your videos, I liked it and thanks for spreading the info…
Nice to have you here in Mexico amigos
Thank you very much for showing the world that Mexico is not what the news makes you think, I am from the beautiful city of Mexico and I think we are a country exactly like any other city, we can compete with Europe, Asia, Australia because it is simply beautiful full of activities, food, culture and much more
México cannot compete with Australia come on.
Yes but no

I am new. to the subject, although I. was born and. rised in México city a few years ago I came to live to Cuernavaca it's. clear. that. many things. had. changed since those days, there. was. a time. when you could hear no one speaking in english or. any other major language, when the crime rates. rose, not. even. the braves tourists did not . dare. to come, but now. I am very. glad. that Mexico is recieving such quantities. of Americans,, now. a second. wave. should. realice that there. are many other places in the country. where. you will be. welcome and. which by the way. are also very beautiful with the taste of the province, I am sure that. with a. good. eye. you would be able to find. a very. good. home here in México

Muy Bonita 🥰
Great video!!! Thank you for sharing it, Shida!! I'd love to hang arround the city with you guys someday!!! I'd love to meet michelle too😅
As a Mexican I can say that racism is a problem here but mostly towards our own people.
Love this!!!
Omg I loveee this video❣️ Awesome content!!!
