- Few days late, but here's a tribute cover to Pat Torpey (drummer for rock band Mr. Big), who passed away mid last week at 64, after suffering some years of early onset Parkinson's. Such a solid timekeeper and musician, sadly gone too young.
This is probably one of my all-time favorite single-groove type songs to play and teach too! One of those relentless driving linear patterns - deceptively simple but quite a challenge to keep steady throughout, what with the left foot 8th notes.

the hardest part is to include the hi-hats.. Man.... if you see some other cover videos.. most of them dont do it or do it in 2/4 beat..even one of them performing on the stage and say: "lupa" to include hi-hats come on man, just admit that you can't do it.. I tried but I struggled. that's why I give my like for this video

you re right... i try and i try and i try to play the hi-hat over and over again... finally i did it, but sometime i failed in the midle of the song.... but i'll keep on practicing

I started playing drums at 14. Now over 50 years later I find it nearly impossible to keep an independent 4/4 beat with my left foot while playing. Most songs I learned emphasized the beat using right-hand stick on the hi-hat... only lifting the left foot for effect. It took me years to figure out that the REALLY GOOD drummers were keeping time with the hi-hat foot. Now it's EXTREMELY frustrating trying to retrain my brain for independence. This gal has it down. She lacks a little "feel" (dynamics), but the rest is spot on!

Im always having hard time playing this linear groove...i need more time and practice fir this song..
But for this very very good drummer girl Ms.Cristal..speechless...
1 of the hardest part is to include hihat while doing the groove..
You can do it!! Just gotta keep working at it and gradually building speed. But yes, the left foot coordination is killer!

That's an interesting string of questions! Hm. Jeans, heel up, drum throne, open to suggestions but may or may not take 'em up - and I've tried, but fail to produce sound on anything with a reed. Heh.

I wasn't actually using a drumless track, just the original song with some frequencies reduced to minimize the snare and kick sounds!
