the logitech seemed to dampen the sound of his voice to it actually sounded worse...ANYONE ELSE AGREE?
Exactly. The audio in the Microsoft is clearly better. And I own neither so I'm not biased.

The microsoft's audio is better than the audio in the logitech camera.

Lifecam CLEARLY beats the other one in audio quality.. Much better treble / high frequency response than C920 IMHO. Logitech sound dull and 'overfiltered' which is weird because the mic placement is much better with Logitech.

+Zsavage1 it all really depends on your needs tbh. I have a $200+ professional condenser mic connected to my PC so yeah I'd definitely pick the Logitech. But for people who don't have external mics the Microsoft may make total sense if they value sound over picture quality.

Exactly my thoughts! C920 sounds bad, but they, who's actually using a webcam for it's microphone.

Except in image quality, auto-focus, still photo quality, and on-the-fly compression. You know, the things important to webcams.
Tommynnd Well, you probably just have a terrible headset then. I prefer using my Yeti for recording audio, but when I'm doing video conferences I typically use my headset. Both of my microphones outperforms the 920's (and that of the Lifecam) microphone noticeably.

great video, exactly 100% what I needed to make my decision. had the Microsoft cam for about 8 months now and the autofocus is a big downpoint I can tell. gonna try the Logitech next! thanks for your efforts
Clearly the Logitech C920 is better for video quality. But in sound it's not very good. But it's a webcam not a microphone so c920 won

I tested both cams lately and also made a video about it. However, the Microsoft LifeCam Studio supplies a better video and audio quality. The microphone of the Logitech HD Pro C920 is very weak.
2:05 Did he just say he doesn't know what 1920 x 1080 means? R u for real. How can you know what 1080 means but don't know the resolution lol...

+GoDxism Quite the late reply, but I'm pretty sure he meant the difference between ''8 megapixel'' and ''1920x1080'' in the settings for taking pictures (no difference in quality or file size?)... I don't have the webcam myself, nor have I ever seen the software but that's how I understood it :P
At first this is what I thought too, although he probably meant that he didn't know what pixel ratio an 8MP image would be (nearly 4K equivalent) compared to 1080p which is roughly 2MP.
Great video but i think the mic of the Microsoft Lifecam Studio is a bit better than the mic of the logitech(it's just my opinion^^)

Logitech sound quality sucks. I have the C920 and I never use the built in microphone.
***** I guess because the majority uses the webcam's microphone rather than getting a standalone microphone or using the laptop's internal microphone. But Michael Zorba thinks the logitech's microphone is so bad he doesn't use it.
The audio is horrible on the c920 in very loud enviroment, Istream live weddings and parties to facebook but never again will I use the internal microphone, there is no compression for the low frequencies, I have to say also the video quality is amazing for the C920,, sucks that I order the lifecam, I will test this myself.

I need to buy a webcam but I'm not sure which one as not a single one of them satisfies me in terms of quality under $80. I'm considering to use a smartphone Samsung S4 as webcam and videocam for youtube videos, but I'm not sure whether if the final result would be better than using a webcam. Any idea anyone?
the logtiech c920 is better than the iphone 6s plus so i reccomend getting a blue snowball and the c920

Did you mix up the captioning there? You say the Logitech has the sharper image, but that one is obviously a lot more blurry. Just look at the keyboard in the back. The Microsoft actually looks like 1080 res while the Logitech looks like 720 or overcompressed.

This was very useful. However you could record 1080p with the LifeCam, but you need the right software. Microsoft don't want your video to be corrupt, so what it does is limiting you to record at 1080p unless you have a killer computer...
if the application for the logtech doesn't start you'll just have to go to the site to download it, from there you can adjust the camera settings and video.
I would like you to compare blue snowball microphone and the blue yeti microphone. Great job on the comparison!

Lifecam's video isn't good at all but saying the sound is worse than logitech's is just false and I can't even begin to understand why you would come to that conclusion.
The audio for both was pretty bad. The Lifecam picked up a lot of background noise you wouldn't want but the Logitech sounded "muffled". I think the Logitech paired with a better mic, like a Blue Microphone (like a Snowball), would pretty much be a solid setup for anyone.
I was planning on buying a lifecam and borrowed it from a friend for a couple of days.
The auto focus is really sucky as this video mentioned.
I have a headset so idc about the mic quality it will be the C920 for me!

Thank you very much for this review. I am a singer songwriter and I would be using this webcam for live streaming on UA-cam, Facebook, and Zoom. I almost purchased the Microsoft Lifecam. Now I have a question how long is the cord for both?
c920 removes more noise but that also removed the higher frequencies. You could however compensate with an equalizer.

The Microsoft LifeCam Studio is a big win because it's the ONLY 1080P HD WebCam on the market, still to this day, that lets you adjust the exposure manually, as well as all the other adjustments that aren't fake like the contrast and brightness on the Logitech controls. You can adjust the camera to any type of lighting you want and it will stay that way. You simply can't do that on a Logitech.
If the Logitech camera allowed for manual controls, particularly for the exposure and a REAL contrast and brightness, it would be a win for sure.
Because the Mac's cam shoot's in 720p, not the high industry standard 1080p which many hope to have, also it's built into the actually computer which isn't really that practical, you can mount it on a tripod or anything. I am only talking about people who record videos such as reviews though, so if it's just skype or something then it is fine, all you'd really want is a new mic. That's why you'd get a separate cam. THINK.
I am not sure why the C920 beat the Lifecam in audio. The audio sounds WAY clearer and crisper with the Lifecam. I own both products myself and can easily hear the difference. I do agree with the video quality, C920 beats the Lifecam. I personally use a Samson G Track Pro with the C920 and get awesome sound. Thanks for the comparison video.
Microsoft Lifecam Studio has a firmware update that is destroying everyone's camera, and Microsoft does nothing to fix it. Look it up for yourself, search "Lifecam Studio stopped working after firmware upgrade?!?" on microsoft community, and read how microsoft treats it's customers.

Well that was a good review showing the video quality, as for audio I use an USB BLUE mic and clean it up through Audacity. I'm going to upgrade to the 920 now. Oh and just an observation. You talk really fast for an American. I have lived in the USA and was always being asked to talk slower as my speed and Australian accent flustered the slower talking folk of Colorado and Arizona!! Anyway, great video, thanx.
The logitech sounds better but a little muffled. Like not distorted but hushed in a way. Thanks for the review though; this will assist me in selecting a webcam. (I plan on adding facecam to my videos!)

Agree with the review apart from the audio. The c920's audio was muddy and quite bad. The Lifecam had way better clarity and your voice was more natural. This probably has something to do with how the c920 cuts out background noise. Question is, can this be turned off?

Just a tip for the Logitech C920 owners. If you turn of 'RightSound' at the webcam settings, you'll have a slight improvement on audio.

Great review question can you use another mic with any of these units because actually does not deliver really good audio would like to use a condenser pic with them.
Yes you can use whatever microphone you like with the Logitech, and probably the Microsoft. There's an option in logotech's recording software to select a microphone

I bought the Logitech C920 and I don't understand why you can't use a mirrored image in the higher video qualities such as 1080p? You only can in small or medium resolutions. Is it at all possible to use it in HD?

Although I have very good command of the language, it was hard to understand everything as you speak so fast! :) I understand it's to keep it energetic, but I am sure you could afford to slow down a tiny bit and keep the up beat so your videos can be of help to people from other countries without the need of so much concentration. Got the C920 today and for some reason my audio sounds horrible, not sure if it might be my sound card I need to replace probably but it sounds like it is trying to sound cancel even while I talk so my voice sounds like I am talking into a fan kind of...
I have the Logitec C920 and I can never get it to record in full HD. Maybe it's my recording program (I used OBS) but the image is always blurry and/or pixelated even when I have the settings at 1920 x 1080.
