So glad you put out this video. I'm left-handed right eye dominant as well. However, my left eye drifts--lazy eye making me see double when focusing on sights. I've always shot well and accurately with left eye closed...know it's not ideal...
Wish I found this content a few years ago. This matter alone was a big reason I was discouraged from going into a spec ops pipeline, second being my depth perception
I am dyslexic with lazy eye. Despite extensive PT as a kid I am strongly left eye dominant wile being strongly right side dominant. This has lead me to adopt the weaver stance with pistol wile with the rifle I switch focus and use my right eye. After a long break my son in-law has re kindled my desire to train. I haven’t actively trained with my pistols (first gen Glock17 and 26) in about 25 years and it’s been almost 40 since I handled an AR platform (M16A1 and M203) back to doing action drills. Most of the muscle memory really hasn't slid much (if I just do it and don’t think about it)but it takes more time to get good sight alignment. Thanks for your exelent content, things have changed per the decades, lol.
You don't need to do the weaver stance. When you hold your gun out it naturally aligns with the right eye. Simple push it over to left eye. You will feel a bit more tension in the right shoulder but that is a good way to compensate. If you don't like that you can also slightly turn your head to the left. The issue with this is the muscles behind the eyes stain so it takes time to build that strength so your eyes don't burn or have micro shaking.
Thank you for your time, a friend of mine shot with you recently (John Kobert). He reports that you are exactly who you present yourself to be on UA-cam. High praise from John.
When i first got into the firearm "community" i could not hour l but the broad side of a barn; beyond frustrating. Then someone suggested I check my eye dominance; yep, that was it. Right handed and left eye dominant. Once I took a pistol class and worked with the instructor and a couple other students, i was hitting a silhouette at 50 yards without a problem. I shot pistol right handed and "adjust" the extended position to be more in line with the left eye. I shoot my rifle left handed; like another commented, i am also ambidextrous. I get it, pretty messed up but it works for me.
Oh. I feel stupid, I thought this was something about expressing dominance through eye contact or something, like to dissuade those kinds of dummies before they do something stupid. Solid info as always!
I always use both eyes. I had a friend who use to use a patch over his right eye to shoot his pistol. I helped him to use both eyes, and he became a much better shooter. I didn't do anything special, just showed him by holding his right thumb up , then close both eyes. Then open his right eye, close it,then open his left eye. He saw his thumb move 5 inches, even though it did not. So I had him open both eyes, and he was again on target. After a few months he became a better shooter!
You do not use both eyes. You just shoot with both eyes open while aligning the sights with your dominant eye. You are not in a video with crosshairs in the middle of your eyesight, if this was the case you would be shooting with cocked cross eyes, not hitting any shot at all
Have dealt with eye dominance most of my life. Am Right handed and right eye dominant. BUT, , , Thanks to a shotgun blowing up in my face, I have a pinpoint dead spot in the center of my vision from my right eye. It pretty much covers a 1 inch area at 10 ft. Using only my right eye, I can look slightly to the left or right and see the object but looking directly at that spot is like seeing a picture with a censored (blurred) area in the center. When using both eyes, it is completely unnoticeable. I have tried shooting left eyed dominant with off-set scopes (which suck to sight in). But shooting pistols right handed but left eyed is a pain to create muscle memory. I like the red dot idea. Have mostly been an iron sites guy but considering lives may be on the line (namely mine). It's worth it to explore.
FrogMan, good content, keep it up. I have the fun of being ambidextrous, so, I don't have a dominant eye...makes skeet shooting kind of "fun" the olympic athlete that was running the range time at Elm Fork shooting club was determining eye dominance for my group of shooters...she held her finger up in front and said "look at my finger" you're left, you're right...she got to me..."you are ambidextrous" I was like, how the fk did she know? 😁😁😁 She asked me which eye I wanted to use, I said "Right" she put opaque tape in the upper left hand side of my shooting glasses.
Hey make sure to put in for oryx tags in New Mexico. Some of the most tender meat I've ever had. Plus it's at the missile range so there are some cool things to see and trinity site isn't too far away.
@frogmantactical only medical issue I have is a fairly high prescription for glasses. I'm just glad that I'm able to use both of my eyes with no real issues. I'll see if I can implement something in from video, though.
That method of determining eye dominance is old and can be subjective. I suggest the better way and sure way is to do this. Place your dominant hand Thumb only on an object approx. 15-20 ft away with both eyes open. Now just close your dominant hand eye so if right handed right eye. if the thumb remains on the object then your left eye dominant. Now refocus both eyes on the object and close the left eye if your thumb remains on the object then you would be right eye dominate. You'll notice that when you focus with the non dominate eye your thumb will not be on the object that your were focusing on when both eyes were open.
Thanks! Which is more important, eye-dominance or hand-dominance? Does leg dominance play a significant role other than your stance which is substantial in itself?
You are more natural with one hand so usually you’ll be better with that hand. Stance is irrelevant honestly. A combative stance is ideal but you can shoot standing anyway you want. Usually opposite leg is forward.
So i shouldnt use both eyes woth pistol. The only time i use one eye is with a scope. My problem i noticed is I squish my head like a turtle into my shoulders 😂. So i am working on keeping a straight up and down posture.
the best, 🚀i want to express my respect for what you are doing teaching and giving instruction about to get better in the personal preparation. thank you for everything.
@frogmantactical wish there was a way to tighten up the legs on the magpul bipods so they wouldn't be so dern wobbly. So I am looking into an upgrade or a fix
@@tylerramsey1388 Agreed I do not like that however when you shoot it's wise to load meaning push forward or pull backward which takes that play out. If you want to upgrade go with AMD or Harris. They are very similar and they are much more stable and durable.
He can send me a DM and come knock on my door anytime. You can come with him. I’ll warm up with you kiddo. Get him to send that DM so I can give y’all my address. 🙏

Wow. Thank you my friend! 🙏
Many have asked about eye dominance. This is a video I did several years ago but the information is still gold!

Pretty sure staring down the barrel of a gun at them will dissuade them from bothering you.

Glad your ok. I couldn't believe when i heard that. That's pretty rare.
Very rare. I don't think in the history of this area people have died due to hypothermia in their own home.

I'm left eye dominant but I'm one of those weirdos that shoots pistol with my left eye and rifle with my right
If you don’t have a medical issue this will help you if you choose to work on it. 🙏

I do the same. But my left eye is messed up 😅 (limited mobility) it’s all good man as long as you hitting 👌🏾
Dude you got me with a snowstorm? LMAO I had to check the weather channel. 😂
Old video reposted 😆 That storm took the lives of elderly and even children. People froze in their own homes in San Antonio.

Thank-you so much. Is that the M 200 Intervention .408 Cheytac on top behind you. If so impressive. Really enjoy your information 👍
Custom .308.
Never got it right with pistol. Riffle, I just learned to shoot left handed
Learn to master a pistol and you can master a rifle, but not the other way around. You are more likely to use a pistol than a rifle so train it. 🙏
