- The fourth single from her 7 x UK platinum debut album “Kylie”, “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi” reached the top 10 in Finland (where it peaked at number one), Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. In certain territories it was renamed “I Still Love You” whilst in others there was a further variation in the titling - “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi (I Still Love You)”.

Genius of this song - utterly sad lyrics PLUS really happy music on top. That combination is utter dynamite. SAW were utter geniuses. Only time makes us really appreaciate them.

It's a hard thing to accomplish musically the sad and happy. But Kylie does it brilliantly. The writers also did a brilliant job.
Just jammed my guitar along to track and the production and mix of the track is freaky the chords are basic but used in a genius manner with a totally over top mix the bass is busy follows the lyrics and keeps you on toes your toes with that 80s disco pop beat and amazing hooks ❤

Kylie always confirms my (perhaps bias) that the pop fluff of yesterday always becomes the artistic triumph of today. Undeniably her ability as both actress and singer comes together in this video.

It is a classic. Good music always is.
The thing with SAW is that even 30 years later a lot of their work still sounds cutting edge. Yeah, they had their haters but you cannot ignore the painstaking engineering they did, the way they would work with each artist and the MASS APPEAL their music had (the US audience was so behind). Guys like Pete Waterman don't come around often - he was a genius for his time that nobody has yet to beat. Kylie's voice in particular matches the audio impeccably to the point where you could play an acapella over an instrumental and not know they were done separately. She is a true legend.

Maybe the advantage of Kylie over other pop stars is that she is also an actress and the concept of her videos are just mixed with a little bit of cinematography. Very memorable videos.

Gosh...how fast time flies. I was 16 and in high school when this song first came out. Countless sweet n bitter childhood memories start lingering in my mind. Those carefree times are long gone. Some of my friends have passed on. No doubt being a teenager was one of the best times of my life.

36 years ago I had a pencil case. It was blue. (I think it might have been from Woolworths.) And all over it in black ink I'd scrawled "Kylie Minogue" and "Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi". Our lovely French (although she was Belgian!) teacher, Madame Edwards, saw it one day, and said something like "Lee! You love French don't you?" I didn't have the heart to tell her "Actually Madame Edwards, I love Kylie!" 😀

An excellent peice of artistry and engineering. Kylie's execution is smooth. The producers' favored microphone system betrayed every flaw in the vocals. Only those artists whose voice could work with any system performed well with the PWL set up. I love how S/A/W incorporated so many different styles in their work. Back up vocal style of the 40's. A basic rock 1-2 beat. Italian disco bass lines. Funk/pop guitar arrangements. Clean synth lines. Albiet, formulatic; but a formula for success.
@Some One PWL Records, record label based in the UK from which SAW (Stock, Aitken and Waterman) wrote and produced the music for their artists.
hey, they stick with what works. that didn't stop ac/dc from making more than 20 albums that sound the same. and a lot of those albums kick ass.
In fact they triple tracked everything to conceal flaws in the vocals of their often mediocre artists. Double and triple tracking was the autotune of the eighties.
Even on her first album, she already had her own unique voice and sound. Very cool!

Don't know what just made me search for this. I haven't heard it since I bought the album as a 7 year old in 88.
I remember sat listening to this on my record player with my cousin. By summer of 88 my father had gotten me into def leppard and whitesnake, so I never really listened to pop after that. This album still brings back nice memories though.
