I'm beating a dead horse at this point but the problem I have with the art design is that the demographic for the game is 30yr old men and the art style feels like "my baby's first RTS"
if i had no idea what stormgate or sc2 was and i got to play test them both back to back. i would have no idea which one came before the other and if you told me that Stormgate was released 14 years after Sc2 i would be shocked. My problem with Stormgate is that its a sidegrade to a 14year old game that has a map creator. you could basicly make the Stormgate game as a custom map in Sc2
14:00 There actually is one moment where that happens and it is in Mission 3. If you wait long enough, the Infernal armies will in fact swarm your base with their best flying units and you will then have to rush to the ending or you lose the game. This however is not very noticeable on Normal difficulty, but on Brutal I did actually trigger this event after I methodically took down the enemy bases and waited too long. If you also play Mission 4 The Stand on Brutal you also get a pretty hectic base defense where you basically have to do the side objectives to unlock super powerful mech units to lock down all 3 paths to your base when protecting the drill. Those moments are however few and far between with the current Campaign. The team is however completely reworking the entire Campaign with Chapter 0 & 1 getting a complete overhaul in early 2025. Cutscenes, dialogue, pacing, voice recordings, and mission designs are getting reworked with new cinematic models in the same vein as Amara's new model. We are also getting progression systems for Heroes and armies similar to SC2 with a hub to visit between missions like the Hyperion in Wings of Liberty. There is no guarantee that it will be as good as the StarCraft 2 Campaign, but at least it is reassuring that they are taking their time in improving the quality of the current content before releasing new stuff. The Chapter 0 rework was supposed to be released in October, but got delayed in favour of releasing it alongside Chapter 1 with all previously mentioned improvements. At least it looks like Frost Giant learned their lesson from releasing the story content so early.
The problem with modern RTS is that they have it backwards. They all want to be spectator sports with big pro communities so they build and cater to those people. What developers forget is that a game is made into a sport because its consistent and fun. Starcraft 2 was only half of a good game. The campaigns were great the missions were good, but the multiplayer devolved into hot garbage because of poor design choices. By constantly comparing themselves to starcraft 2 they have created that expectation, but don't have the budget or manpower to deliver. Just because a person worked on a game does not mean they were instrumental in that games success. The game has been in development for four years and still looks like an alpha build. There are lists of indi games that put these pros to shame. The biggest red flag to me was them wanting to make a game like starcraft 2. That heavily implies that there was something wrong with starcraft 2 and their goal was to try and copy it? Sounds sketchy to me. The devs bit off more than they can chew and delivered cheap bootleg starcraft instead of working with in their means and making something original. Storm gate is an example of the sunken cost fallacy. They have to keep plugging away and making content that is subpar because they cant take the time to do it properly or lose the backing of their community due to lack of progress.
I think just to hammer home the point about them biting off more than they can chew with like the SC2 comparisons, IIRC SC2 team had a person who's whole job was just the cutscenes. Their team is 3 people. The sheer resource mismatch is evident in the end product, and it really is just an issue of where they set expectations
Warcraft 3 does not introduce units very well except for Spell breakers, Kodo Beasts and Mountain Giants. What do you think Fairy Dragons do? Did you know they exist? It took me awhile to understand what they are for. You only get them for one mission and even then they aren't very usefull. Actually if you can use Mana Flare on Summoner Naga that would be pretty cool but I think Summon ability that they constantly cast don't cost mana. Starcraft 2 on the other hand, you can beat entirely with just the one unit you get on the same mission. Which is also dumb and wrong.
I haven't played the game since they launched the campaign in a shoddy state. I paid for ultimate backer and i think I wasted my money, I'll never back anything in my life again
@@TheTechnoJelly Godsworn is also from this year, it's made by a similar small team (afaik) and it revolves around hero mechanics. Classical Base building combined with creep camps to give you an edge. On Paper these two sound very similar but Godsworn is (imho) leagues ahead. Oh and it's also in early access.
I have not yet touched Stormgate at all, but I can't help but think 'It looks a bit much like SC2, doesn't it? I think I'll pass.' (I may be wrong, but it didn't do anything to convince me otherwise.) Speaking as purely a campaign player in matters of RTS, I have enjoyed all the ones I played a good bit. Age of Mythology, WC3, Godsworn, SC2 is not my type of setting but its campaign still was a blast, less traditional ones like They are Billions and Cataclysmo. What made each of them interesting and fun to play is how they all were notably different. If Stormgate wants to compare itself to SC2 I don't see why even an 'as good as' would make me want to play it. And it's a bummer it seems to be so far from that.
I think if the entire campaign is a pushover to infantry spam, the difficulty might need some tuning lol. Really drives home that narrative dissonance - if a basic infantry unit can stomp the demons, why is everywhere else being overrun?
When you watch this footage after the playtest weekend of both ZeroSpace and Immortal: Gates of Pyre, it is even harsher for Stormgate. Both games are far more original, more beautiful, more innovative, more interesting, more fun than Stormgate. Stormgate is a disaster of a fan service done the worst way possible and will remain in History of gaming as one of the biggest disappointment ever in the industry. I think the hate we have for Stormgate comes for the realization that somehow the marketing team thought, yeah let's make whatever, those ass***** will buy it anyway, they love W3 and SC2 so much, it is a given already, they are just stupid, now applause us and buy in advance ! Thank you suckers, sorry loved players I meant.
1. animations are bad 2.artstyle is generic 3. design of races is uninspired and generic and random (demons...). i dont think they can fix the game (at leas in for my taste)
I was talking about mostly the campaigns and starcraft 1 and brood wars campaign does show its age compared to starcraft 2 but I do understand where you are coming from
that game look like stRCRAFT 2 ALPHA and heat my pc like starcraft 20 ... like sure they fi it but that should be one of first thing to make game not burn peopel pc, im not saying they should fix all problems but just some bigest, im pretty sure that they could make game work 40% by fixing few bigest problem in code.
I think you repeated yourself multiple times in the video please take more care when making a script or even if its without script. I hope this game succeeds cuz if it does the RTS genre as a whole will get more attention we need new blood in the RTS genre there isn't a lot of youth compraed to FPS the old guys sooner or later would get busy would become old etc and the community will shrink slowly. That be a damn shame so if tempest rising , and stormgate succeed it will be very positive for the RTS. I may be exaggerating things a bit I know we humans tend to exaggerate stuff sometimes. One thing I wish modern RTS would do less is try to be less of an Esport and more of a good game , all Esport games have solid gameplay and offer a good all round experience trying to be the next starcraft isn't working these studios must get that. Also their team is made out of 3 people? Nah you are joking man I refuse to believe its just 3 people probably a lot more.
Ofc you don't like Stormgate... it is a terrible game, lol. btw, the title of "Blizzard devs from SC2 and WC3" implies Sex Offenders as much as it implies good devs.
I'm beating a dead horse at this point but the problem I have with the art design is that the demographic for the game is 30yr old men and the art style feels like "my baby's first RTS"
Yeah I can see that, it does look like a mobile game sometimes
Absolutely , the cutscene with those boxes moving with something resembling a tire did it for me. I'd rather play a 2000's game.

Yeah stormgate does play a but smoother than sc2 but it's not really a bug deal, sc2 does everything else better
Honestly: That is an insult to the many talented modders of SC2.
I'd take most custom campaigns in SC2 over Stormgates story ...

Same

The game is just a worse 100% copy of SC2, it doesn't add anything new to the gameplay
Yeah it does feel that way sadly
but starcraft 1 missions are good
They are good!
@@TheTechnoJelly the story was good. i loved the zerg campaign so much ambiance
Really good indeed ! What a campaign !
Here's hoping that ZeroSpace will not dissapoint.
Yeah ZeroSpace does seem to be a hopeful contender for a good rts game
In my mind i compare Stormgate to Godsworn and although the 2 have different settings i think there is a clear winner between the two.

If you are a campaign player stormgate has nothing for you right now, maybe in a few years but nothing now
it seems protoss not just ruined SC2, it also killed stormgate even before its birth
Lol
It seems nothing will beat starcraft
Honestly I agree for me starcraft will never be beat but I was hoping for at least a second place but it didn't even come close
