I thought I'd come to the stream for Blair's Buttons, but I was really there for Sully and Dan making accents and almost forgetting they're playing a game.
First Lord of the Board tournament that I've been witness to, I'd like to recognize the great job the crew did on all the behind the scenes production elements, I've worked in local news with a small team and I know how tough live broadcasting like this can be even for just a couple of hours, so the endurance on display here is definitely impressive as well. Just some recommendations for future LotB, perhaps consider pre-filming the rules explanation segments for each of the games on display so you can play those during setup, and that might prove more efficient so there's reduced down time for the audience. Even though you'd only end up presenting half of the pieces you filmed for the elected games, you wouldn't have to pause to cover rules and pause again to do the setup for the players. Secondly, with just a roll of felt or a wood tray, you could have the next two games already set up off-camera ready to deploy as soon as you cut to the rules video. I'm not sure if that was actually taking up much time compared to mic-ing up the players and whatever else, but could probably streamline a bit if you're not already doing that. Thirdly, after-action reports from the players discussing plays they thought went well or mistakes they made, or tactics they appreciated from their opponents, and praising the game mechanics to plug for your sponsors, might also be a nice way to fill time during setup for the next game. I mean this all constructively, and obviously still a great event even without these approaches I've outlined, I certainly wasn't bored with the downtime myself, just wanted to throw the observations out there in case you're thinking about how to tackle pacing for the next time. Keep up the good work NRB!
I like the idea of after action segments of players discussing strategy or turning points would be nice. A good callback to the talking head segments on the normal BGC episodes.
The endurance for this is remarkable. These long streams are not easy, and you all knock it out the gate. Good show! And for the finalists [names redacted], I absolutely adore your on-screen chemistry and cheeky shit-talking.
Only caught the final, congrats [winner redacted to avoid spoiler complaints]! Will absolutely be watching the 9 hours I missed to witness the ascension to the throne.
I was glad to see Lord of the Board return and I'm happy with our new champion. I did miss the original format though. The more polished videos are easier to watch and the episodic nature makes it exciting and allows for fans to talk and speculate in the wait for the next release. The live stream format also meant that as soon as the stream ended the results were spoiled online, a huge bummer for those of us in conflicting time zones who couldn't catch the stream all the way through live. I also missed Trudi Trotters and Brian Children very much. Though I also appreciate and applaud NRB taking the chance to try a different format, take risks, and try and make the best content you guys can. All the performers and tech team did an amazing job considering the mammoth effort this would have taken to accomplish. I hope everyone got a good rest afterwards (and some good food too!). I look forward to the 2025 tournament, I'm sure it will continue to grow and improve with each implementation.
I completely agree. The drama was heightened and the “thinking time” for the strategy games dragged so much less. I’m sure it’s more work for the editors but there is just so much dead-air with the livestream format
Too bad that glitch with Blair saying 'you need some buttons' in a loop isn't in the recording, it was hilarious and in theme with bigger, better Button Blair.
I can say I am not a euro game person. They tend to kind of feel quiet and generally everyone else at the table tends to know whats going on within seconds while I'm so confused that I just do the bare minimum, but the liveliness of everyone at NRB really allows me to feel the joy you all have for these games and that allows me to enjoy them as well. I never miss an episode and sometimes I have added or want to add games from the show to my collection. I hope all who win these games are able to enjoy them, and here;s to another great year of games!
"What's going on in Dom's heart?" At that moment, I'd say an arrhythmia 😅 Rosie throwing the game just to end the misery for them both was top tier Schadenfreude-based entertainment 😂
What a brutal slog that was!! 10+ hours. Loved Button Blair who started the stream already mad. Loved Dom’s rapid decent into prolonged madness. To stream that all live was incredible 🎉, LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT! Thank you ☺️
You had me at TTRPG!!! Don't have a group myself, but I've been high on Baldur's Gate 3!!! Haven't been able to tell if I've talked to a Tilly yet, sadly... anyway, missed this entirely (PDT so was like 3AM here and it didn't pop up on my YT recommends either), anyway, I hope Laurie wins! I see him as an underdog too much and I'd just love to see him win Lord of the Board!!!! (Literally 10:45, so I don't even know what the first game is yet!) PS- as of writing this comment I'm Subbed to GTB, liked the video, subbed to NRB and I'm a NeRB as well!
Haven’t even finished their match and I’m starting the petition for Dom and Rosie to have their own show or vlog or something. More of them together please!
First off, more Rosie is required in BGC. Especially when it's Rosie, Sullivan, Tilly and Dom. Just those 4 playing any game would be fantastic. Secondly, some really fun games played today!
Not gonna lie that final was brutal. Not sure a livestream is the right format for a tournament, unless you break it up. Admire the ambition, and it was worth a go, but I would take lessons from this.
I'm with you on this, much preferred last years format, the face to face setup, dramatic lighting, background music, the comedy commentary (comed-entary??) from Trudi and Brian, all those things made it much more entertaining. Hopefully they are able to go back to that way next year.
Just as a small historical note. Nixon had won a second term in a landslide. He took 61% of the popular vote, compared with 38% for his Democrat rival Senator George McGovern. He won 521 electoral college votes and carried 49 states while Mr McGovern took just 17 votes and won only two states. So no matter how popular Dom Allen Stalin Nixon is and despite his efforts in teh game he could not be reelected to another term for President. The board game I think does a good job of showing what was going on at the time. It was the efforts to cover up the scandal of the break in that would eventually lead to the threat and most likely impeachment.
Thanks you guys! You made my job (social work with kids) A LOT easier on friday! Next week we'll be starting our own little "Lord of the Board" tournament.
I feel that some of the games that missed out on being selected should have had a chance of being played in later rounds. I would've loved to have seen Fox and the Forest being played.
The structure needs to change. I think the group can play 4 and 5 player games (and more) and you give points for what place you get in. (like a mario kart grand prix scoring system). It should take some weeks to score and set up. And then this event is the top players going on a few last games for the win, ending in a game the player each get to choose. It would be much better than watching people learn games for the first time after playing for 6 hours straight... The stakes would be higher, it would feel more earned, and more people will want to watch it.
Loved this keep the great content coming! I will be buying a copy of summoner wars and star realms after watching this! And if you haven't got a name for the new rpg channel how about "No roles bard"
@@arakuss1 well also streaks are actually somewhat expected in any random series of events - it would be weird if there were none in fact humans tend to severely underestimate how many streaks occur and how long they should be expected to be
Not NRB's fault, but I feel the need to say that the colors on the Block Ness boards are way too subtle. Also, I will be very disappointed if 'Button Blair' doesn't show up as an NPC (or enemy?) in the first Gnomes Trolls Bard campaign. Don't worry, Dom, I caught Rosie's accidental illegal move. Of course, me shouting at my TV, from across the pond, three days later, doesn't help.
Got a 5 hour drive ahead of me, gonna listen to the first half of this while driving there, the other half on the way back tomorrow. I hope Brian Children and Trudi Trotters are here.
Had to catch this later than live currently an hour and 20 minutes in but loving this lord of the board already! Looking forward to seeing what you do with your new channel also ❤
Will report back after 10 hours lol, but just Lories narration at the beginning is telling me this is going to be amazing! Incredible stream! Was so fun wathcing live! Thanks for all the effort everyone involved. so well produced and brilliant content! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 Also love the switch to YT for the streaming - meant that I could pause while watching along and now the vod is here its great!
Just some feedback - I enjoyed the matches and such - but I will say I perfered the old style of LotB where it was video segments - watching the VOD after was a bit painful with the breaks not being marked out and I feel the feel was better in the shorter form videos setting wise - Loved the little intros/smacktalks
Thanks for the effort of making this marathon! A suggestion for Lord of the Board 2024: pre-recorded matches, but keep livestreaming. I fell in love with Phenoma-Nerds/No Rolls Barred for the high production value, and I couldn't see half the cards during the stream ^_^;; But the banter was entertaining and congrats go out to the winner!
Can’t believe I watched all 10 and a half hours of this. Congratulations to the winner - you’ve always been my favorite member of the NRB cast and you absolutely earned that win!

John, who has been part of one of the greatest horror pod casts ever (Magnus Archives), is freaked out by Blair's buttons ... LOL that's wonderful (to be fair, the buttons are freaky)
I will upset a lot of people and say that she's the only female in front of the camera I like. They've had a couple of female guests recently who had potential but we get stuck with Holly and Rosie
Brilliant stream but I feel like this could've used some playtesting to see which games work on a live stream, that final game had too much silence I feel, it could've worked in a video where you can edit around it but having it live made the final game drag which was a shame
Sadly I could only see this on catchup because I couldn't have my phone running while at work. Awe man, I love the "Gnome, Trolls, Bard" name. The new name is going to have a hard time being better.
Wait, it's comma-separated? I always thought it was gnome trolls Bard, as in the gnome is trolling the bard.

Dom and Rosie's sibling rivalry is magic.
Each game happened to be won by the person dressed "nicer" or more formally. If Dom had kept his tie on he could've won. Rookie mistake.
