The writing on this was pitch-perfect, as was the acting. I know the will-they, won't they thing has been done thousands of times, but never better than in this series.
I forgot how funny this was; Paul was a brilliant actor and performer. How Jan managed to keep a straight face when he delivered his lines I'll never know
Brings back so many brilliant memories, sad, happy, and all the rest. A lot of sitcoms during the 70's,80's and 90's were repetitive, boring and not really funny at all. This was completely different. Will never forget it.
I have just started watching this all over again. Timeless. Just Good Friends - just good fun. Thanks for this! You included my favourite line “I never missed an episode of Star Trek.”
The wonderful Jan Francis was a ballerina in the Royal Ballet before she became an actress. She had to learn to stand differently, breathe differently and walk differently. She is so talented and beautiful. Great timing of her lines.
There have been very few series where the affinity between the actors has been so close. Just Good Friends, Dad's Army, and ironically the first cast of Star Trek had 'it'. Jan Francis was the girlfriend that we all craved back then, it was maddening to see Vince treat her like that, we all just wanted to jump in and rescue her. She was absolutely gorgeous, the years have not dated that 'look'. Loved it.
@@Dabhach1speak for yourself; we were having the BEST time EVER...partying all night; every night; classy ladies in wine bars...fun , fun everywhere....where were you?????
It's only a show theme song, but I love it - it gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. There never was a "full length" version of that original recording - been searching for years.
They missed the bit when they’re lying in bed together for the first time since their reunion, the lights are out and Penny is getting nervous. “Vince, I’m scared.” “Don’t be scared, Pen. I’m here.”
My favourite episode was when Vince invited Penny to a party and gave her a biker suit to wear on the way there as they were going on his motorbike. When they got to the party he asked her to take the suit off but she hadn’t worn anything underneath, thinking that’s what she was meant to actually wear for the party 😂
where where where can i watch series 3 ep 7 the wedding? I've just done a 12 hour marathon and seen EVERY episode apart from the very last one.. am gutted!
R.I.P. John Sullivan, everything he wrote was universally funny and poignant.Never set foot in college or fleet street and his humour was the better for it.
Classic comedy tv sitcom “Just good friends” when tv shows were fantastic and there was no snowflakes moaning about anything said in the whole tv series, unlike the unfunny comedy programs we get on our tv screens just now. Bring this tv comedy program back
I have to hand it to Janet Stephanie Francis. She made herself a great vehicle for Paul Nicholas to do his best work at the expense of showcasing her own wonderful comedic talent. As did Sylvia Kay as the Mother in law from hell.
It was a shame that there was no follow up to this to see how they were doing now then as such, which would have been interesting too. But with John Sullivan alas gone too, I guess now then there will not be though. We used to like the series here, not only when it was first shown on BBC1 from 1983 to 1986, but when it was rerun too. I also have it on DVD discs as well too. Thank you so too!
I personally think its better than ofah .and jan francis was stunning i remember hanging around with a woman we were only friends. I remember seeing her boob and told her.she said it was her earring. I told her it was a big earring yes i was such a romantic once
Not sure about any of those. Id say "Dear John" was reasonably good. "Reginald Perrin" is much underrated, but at least none of them are thrashed like Fools & Horses or Open All Hours. All great comedies but I'm afraid "Sorry" was aptly named...
when vince said.."if you`re talking about that morris minor you bought her for her birthday..."....it sounds like penny says.."fuck me vince"...i tried a few times and it still sounds like it
The writing on this was pitch-perfect, as was the acting. I know the will-they, won't they thing has been done thousands of times, but never better than in this series.
Had a pint with Paul Nicholas years ago, I went up to him and said "You`re Vince Pinner off the tele", he laughed and we had a chat, great bloke!!
with my late wife this was the only series we would not miss, brings back memories.
The great John Sullivan’s script delivered in impeccable style by the cast.
Still funnier than the dumbed down rubbish we get today.
Loved this series.
It sure is , must start to watch it again .
Jan Francis, an English rose.
A true beauty with class.❤
Paul Nicholas is a good looking man too.
one beautifull woman ❤
One of the best comedies of its time still watch the dvds now and love every minute
absolutely hilarious back in the 80s & jan Francis was gorgeous
1983. I recall this superb comedy. Writing was gold.
I forgot how funny this was; Paul was a brilliant actor and performer. How Jan managed to keep a straight face when he delivered his lines I'll never know

Jan Francis was gorgeous. 💗 Perfect girl next door type.
Jan Francis - beautiful!
I'd never known of Jan Francis until a week ago when I caught the Under The hammer series and I don't mind saying I fell for her. Fell hard.
@@ukrandr jan francis was one of the most beautiful woman ever. she was stunning as a teenager and for a few decades after.
Yes, Paul was not bad either. x
Hi pen! Bye pen!

Beautiful touching love story. Classy acting.
Jan Francis was gorgeous
just good friends was very underrated, another john sullivan classic. wished they had made more.
It was a massive success you utter fucking moron. Have you ever had an original thought?
Gentlemen, form an orderly queue if you were in love with Jan Francis.
Ladies, form an orderly queue if you were in love with Paul Nicholas.
“When Vince invites you round for a meal you know he means breakfast”
I’d missed just how wonderful and completely hilarious this was. John Sullivan was a masterclass at comedy. Very much missed nowadays.
Great video, great show although I can't see anything from Series 3 here.
This was a great show. I don't half miss the 80's 😔
me too!! the best times
The 80s were horrible, enlightened only by a few bright spots like this brilliant show. They just seem great compared to today.
@@Dabhach1 No era is perfect, but at least it was OK to be white in Britain in the 80s.

I loved this show too, it has a certain charm i cant quite put my finger on , but love it all the same including the theme tune.....

Fantastic programme - great actors

Brilliant comedy series. Even though made 40 years ago it's still as funny as it was back then. Watching it now!
"....i got shoes on me feet but I'm not waliking.."🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd forgotten just how funny this is.
Paul Nicholas was brilliant here. Also thought John Ringham, who played Penny’s dad, was great.
Loved that show. Jan Francis, my first crush.
Penny’s mother was brilliant. She stole every scene she was in.
Sylvia Kay
She reminded me of my ex girlfriend's mother!
Agreed, she was hysterical
Vince always reminded me of a very good friend of mine, and to this day I can all but see him in the character. Brilliant stuff!
Loved this series 😊 great to see this .
I've got the same sense of humour as Vince. Sadly that's where the similarities end.
Best line ever : " Drunk again Vincent? " " Yer me as well Mrs Warnerder 😉" Brilliant ❤👏👏👏👏👏👏
My favourite episode was when Vince invited Penny to a party and gave her a biker suit to wear on the way there as they were going on his motorbike. When they got to the party he asked her to take the suit off but she hadn’t worn anything underneath, thinking that’s what she was meant to actually wear for the party 😂
Thanks for this. This made me smile. I needed that .
Where are all the writers today? I am not just being nostalgic but they had the capacity to make us laugh.
great series when I was young I'm 56 now
Yes it was, I'm 56 also in Nov, It's gone quick mate.
I’m 63 now loved it
This was such a good sitcom. I'd forgotten all about it, thanks for this!
Just good friends absolutely love this and always so funny
Loved this show great characters
Trip down memory lane, I'm 47 and live in Australia. Reminds me of a time in England before she was completely destroyed.
That not shaping up too well either.
true, we're in nearly as bad a shape as Australia
This guy Sullivan is a genius and he wrote Only Fools and Horses. Lucky bbc.
I'm building a time machine and I'm going back to the 80s to live. Anybody wanna come?
beautiful love story I wasn't even born then
Jan Francis, quite simply a gorgeous woman.
" Do you know what a vegan is?" LOL.
Normally I'm not mad about women having short hair.. when the face is this gorgeous, I'll make an exception
Carey Lowell.
A woman has to be very pretty, or have a certain look to pull it off, and Jan Francis definitely did.
How very kind you are.
The days when a melon boat was a considered suitable for a starter😅
Loved loved loved this series, everyone except Vince were so annoying, but it worked !
Brilliant! The full series is on UKTV free streaming at the moment. :-)
Jan you are so beautiful x

Series 3 episode Meeting By Chance. Vince’s wife is much more attractive than Jan Francis.
Totally disagree.
