I really appreciate the time and effort you put into this test. It's exactly the kind of information somebody looking to purchase one of these water changing systems needs. There are a bunch of other videos on UA-cam with people showing how one or the other system works, but you actually compared them using meaningful criteria. Excellent, and thank you.

Once you start the siphon with your faucet, you can turn off your faucet and the python will continue to siphon itself.
That is correct but that depends on the height of the aquarium in relevance to your sink. If for whatever reason the sink is higher than the top of your aquarium the tank will not continue to siphon. This is the case with about 50% of my tanks so the faucet must stay on to drain them. This test was specifically done to test the difference between the two if the faucets were left on.

I’m using the Phyton gravel washer to drain/ clean debris then use the Phyton no spill water changer to fill up…that way you won’t be wasting too much water, just realized lately after a year of using the no spill…pretty good and reliable products though!

I use the python squeeze bulb syphon starter. That way I'm not using any fresh water to drain. Obviously I use fresh water to fill, but none is wasted. Lol. So glad you did this, I've wondered how efficient the faucet adapter is.
Your welcome, obviously If the tank is higher than your sink you could just shut the water off after the flow starts but I figured this was a good test regardless
@@TrafishAquatics I agree. I've always wondered if they waste water and if so how much. My sink is lower than my tanks, that's why I got pythons squeeze bulb syphon starter to drain tanks. That bulb works amazing, gets the water going with a couple squeezes. Super easy and fast.

first time i've seen them tested like that. pretty interesting. i have the aqueon one and have been using it for quite a while. under any pressure at all the fittings on it will blow. do not cut the valve off like they say you can.
I noticed that on the aqueon one I have to, it can't take any pressure with that valve closed, so I'm not sure why they included it
@@TrafishAquatics if I could go back and buy it over again I would of just bought the 50' python instead of trying to save money with the 25' aqueon.
Python 100 percent. The aqueon one blows. The entire vacuum relies on a weak connection to the hose. If you put two rubber washers on it which it requires for the seal it will straight pop off the vacuum. Garbage complete garbage

That's a lot of wasted water. I think the extra steps to not waste so much water, is better than buying these.
You're welcome, these systems are also capable of not wasting a lot of water if you're able to start a siphon and then shut the sink off if the tank is high enough in elevation compared to the sink It will siphon the tank water out without wasting hardly any water at all, but I know that that's not always possible.
when talking about the physical differences of the two products it would have been real nice to see them so you could have pointed them out as you discussed them.
edit: after watching the video, I think I'll stick to draining with buckets and using the python (or the clone made by hygger) for filling up the tanks.
If you microwave the hose for like 45 seconds it will make it lose memory, boiling water works too. Ive done it with air hoses and syphon tubes
I've done the boiling water one but never tried the microwave method, great tips!
Just run hot water through it when its hooked up to your sink.

It’s better to have the function option and not needing them than needing a functions and not having them, I have both love both, and I clean mine with vinegar or bleach works wonders dissolving the gunk stuck in the hose

water flow through a hose isn't going to change the only difference should be in design and quality just saying water pressure is the same either way
Well, I've been using the python for over 25 years and I've never had a problem so I'm not interested in spending whatever that other one cost to find out if it's worth the difference. if it ain't broke don't try to fix it

Yes I'm aware, some people aren't able to do that based on the location of their sink vs tank. If the tank is higher than the sink it will continue to drain, if it's level or lower it wo.t and the faucet will need to stay on to drain the tank.
I read online that once you have vacuum going you don't have to keep the clean water running is that true?

I bought the hygger Automatic Aquarium Water Changer which looks basically the same as the cheap one you tested & it barley sucks, I had to prime it with tank water to get it to start draining! Years ago I had a python & it lasted me quite a while never had an issue with it! I will be sending the $40 thing back & spending the extra to get the $79 python! (I need the 50ft that’s why it’s $79) I too noticed the inner peace of the sink connector is wider than the python. We have 60-70ish psi here (according to my ro/di setup) shame I wasted my time… From now on I’m going to go with my gut & just buy the better quality products & not these cheap knockoffs!!!
Also thanks for the video! Helped me confirm that it wasn’t just my water/home… I figured this cheap one wouldn’t be as good…

I got an Agueon today and I regret a big time! Not because of how the product works, but because it came with a warning saying that it exposes you to styrene and vinyl chloride that are known for causing cancer. I will return it and now I’m trying to discover the companies that do not expose us to those materials.

No idea, most manufactured products in the world today have markings on them that say "this product is known by the state of california to cause cancer", i even bought a peice of untreated wood that had this lable, and its just wood.
Hey friend! Hi! I got the Python hose! You were right! It does a better job and it came with the same label about the cancerous substances, but it looks like a way better product exactly like you showed in your video. I don’t know if you are already aware of it (you might), but my husband discovered that once the vacuum suction starts you can turn of your tap water and it still continues to suck without any changes! Amazing! I’m feeling way better about this product now because I hated the idea of wasting water. The environment do no need to suffer so much with this technique now. 🙏

Great video very interesting here's a question if you get Sand in your adapter that goes to sink what's the best way to get it out phone slowing down psiphon you know how you psiphon the sand sometimes you might pick up a little amazing get caught up into the adapter so how do we fix that
The sand shouldn't slow down the syphon at all, the openings on the adapter are large enough to let the sand pass and if needed can just be rinsed out
@@TrafishAquatics I have a python sometimes it's not a siphon is good as it was at first sometimes it was typing then it will stop then it will start again back and forth it just seemed weird I was thinking maybe you say I got into the adapter over the years using it I know this the hose is a little bit more fancy now as well do you think they might be just a water pressure I just noticed it the past few months
Could be your water pressure in your house fluctuating as well, you can take the screws out of the adapter and see if you have some buildup inside of it
Does it use any faucet water when you vacuum the water out of the tank? Can I turn the faucet off once the water flows out?
Yes as it shows in the video both use faucet water when vacuuming the tank, you can turn the water off after you start your syphon and it will continue to work unless your tank is lower or equal to the height of your sink, in that case you will need to keep the faucet on to keep the syphon running.

I actually have the same issue with Aqueon. Where it doesn’t drain from my 5 gal tank. Should I switch to Python?
The first thing I would do is double check your water pressure, I have used my python in houses where the water pressure was low and it had issues as well.
Pythons been number 1 sense they licensed the patent

You could try to fix it but the plastic is generally so thin It's likely not worth it cuz it would just break again, though I do believe you can just order a new siphon head for them
If I purchase the python, do I need to purchase a longer gravel tube for it to work on a tank that is 24 inches tall, or is the default gravel tube that comes with it long enough? Thanks!
Gravel tube length is all personal prefrence, basicly it all depends on if you want to get your hand/arm wet or not

The suction is about the same with various sizes of tube, maybe slightly less as you get longer, the basic tube is about 12" long
Anything over 10" will not siphon out fish poop very well.

Both fill rates are going to naturally be dictated by the rate at which your faucet can put out water, not the system itself!!!

Correct but if my water system is a constant pressure and flow rate, and I've run both systems, and one is slower doesn't that mean that there is a difference in the system causing this variation.
If there’s a significant difference in the inside diameter of the tubing being used... I could see that affecting it.
Personally, I use the python system and it does a great job. I think it’s better manufacturing with better materials, also a better design as far as being able to create a siphon.. only problem I’ve noticed with the python system is the different lengths in the gravel tubes. The system comes with a 10 in gravel tube so I bought a 24 inch gravel tube for my deeper tanks so I don’t have to put my hands in the water in order to do maintenance. So I noticed that the longer the gravel tube is, the less suction you have for sucking up debris. This is also partly due to the python system having a wider diameter gravel tube from what I can tell.. it’s definitely wider than the gravel tube I used before with buckets!
Both systems use a similar diameter hose and both have similar dia. Syphon heads, the only 2 differences I saw were the odd design of the aqueon syphon head and the diameter of the Venturi port inside of the nozzle that attaches to the sink, since they are slightly different sizes this can cause water pressure variences between the systems which will affect fill and drain times. And I agree that the aqueon is for sure a cheaper plastic and much more likely to break.
I've always liked the python no spill system but the whole thing about refilling straight from the tap always had my brow raised,but i guess since prime is a trusted superior product and is proven.I have a 20long and i always dose a full cap to treat the water before i refill(thats with the bucket system)so with the prime can i still dose a capful before i refill with the python system and then dose another cap once filled or is that overkill? I'm really thinking about getting this python system..no more damn buckets.Again what would be a recommended dose for the full volume of my 20gallon upon refilling with the python?
Whenever you're treating water conditioner with a Python system you would drain the amount of water that you want to remove and then add the amount of conditioner relative to the amount of water that needs to be replaced then add the new water, The chemical reaction of water conditioner actually removing chlorine and chloramines is actually very quick so this should have no ill effects on your fish as many hobbies do water changes this way and are very successful.

I'm sorry but yours is not a real test and if like me you live in an extremely built up area then depending on who is using what (washing machine etc, etc and time of day) will determine your water pressure. For instance, I have a bidet built into my toilet and sometimes during the day I hardly am able to clean my undercarriage but at night, (after 10pm) then I could do my tonsils at the same time…..the water pressure really rises simply because no-one is using it.
Well this test was done with stable 50psi water pressure on a well pump so if you have unstable water pressure they both wouldnt perform as well as in this video.
Or if you are really lucky, you have a floor drain or sewer clean out in your basement and you just syphon all of your drain water down to it.

That all depends on how high the tank sits in elevation as compared to the sink, if the tank is above the sink i will normally turn the faucet off and just let the siphon gravity feed the water out. If the tank is below the level of the sink you have to leave the water running to create a draw.
You can turn the faucet off unless is the sink or water source is significantly higher than the tank. For instance, if the tank is in the basement and the water source is on the ground floor, then leave the water on. Sea level atmospheric pressure can push water as high as 33 feet when a siphon is established. So at height of 10 feet the water will still flow, just at a much lower rate versus a elevation difference of 0 feet.
