This is genius! I knew there had to be a way for me to do water changes and refill the tank without lifting a heavy 5 gallon bucket full of water. Thanks for sharing!
This made my life so much easier. Thank you, Thank you. I stressed so much (tears and everything) thought I might have to get rid of my turtle...... I got two new faucets and my adapter that I had been using for years couldn't be used on them. Did some research online and found this . wonderful video and I now can change my turtle aquarium in no time. THANKS
I’ve been using this method for around 6 months. I use a 1500L/H pond pump with 30’ of 16mm (ID) hose, as the pump has a 16mm nozzle. I’m 66 and disabled so this has made water changes on my 65g so easy. When I refill my tank I use an 85L bucket that I’ve a lready filled with water that’s temperature matched and has Prime added.
I use this method as well, only with a smaller pump. My sink is really close to my aquarium so I don't need a very powerful pump. I fill up my buckets the day before (with prime and KH/GH buffers) and let them sit on my kitchen counter overnight, this way the water has time to set close to the target temperature. I keep my aquarium at 25°C and my apartment is usually between 22-25°C depending on the season. I don't change more than 25% of my water so even if the temp is a bit lower, it's not an issue. This setup is extremely efficient and well worth the extra purchases of the pump/hose.
This works very well. One tip: 800 gallon per hour pumping will easily outpace your home water pressure. That means you need to stop the pump periodically (when filling your tank) to allow the bucket to replenish. Even 400 gallon an hour is slightly faster than average residential max flow.
Pumps are a life saver. I use a gravel siphon from my tank to a 13 gallon trash can and use the same pump to pump that water to the bath tub 40 feet away. I also have another pump that goes from a 27 gallon tote I fill in my bathtub, add safe, and then pump water to my tanks. I siphon 125 gallons a week, takes about 2 hours. Maybe it is because I am moving water a long distance, but I definitely do not get a flow of 800 gallons per hour. Plus I am only using 5/8 inch hose.
Yea the head height is not super high on these pumps, only 7.2 feet if I remember but that's verticle height only horizontal pumping doesn't affect it as much.
Awesome!! My sink fixtures will not accommodate a python and I'm quite frankly sick of the buckets although I keep two buckets on my dolly and just roll them to the bathroom. But it's still getting to be a pain.
I use pumps similar to that for many hobbies. I use them in the aquariums, to feed my hydroponic system , and to cool the still. Very handy pumps. I have 4 of them floating around. My tap water is very hard, 796 ppm, s I have an to filter in basement and mix tap water with ro water. I’m renting at the moment so I Cary buckets up and down stairs. Pia but it gets the job done
Have you filled a bathtub with water for waterchanges instead of using a bucket? I clean the bathtub with a sponge, i dont have fish yet and been cycling with bathtub water with a pump. is that safe?
Have you tried this with a 25ft horse (garden horse type) to connect to a sink? the pump barely pump any water out at that length that is only the down fall.
I have to use a water pump & hose instead of the Python system the system is hard for me to use due to a disability and one hand love my pump to pump water and in and out I use 2 large trash cans instead of the bucket .. My problem is keeping the 3/4 hose in place while filling, I can not find a clamp large enough local … for my tank rim I guess I will have to get a hook built
That's actually pretty easy to fix, You can build a hook out of PVC pipe, there's a fitting that has a 3/4 hose thread that you can attach the hose directly to And then attach that fitting to some PVC pipe in the shape of a hook and you're good to go

my question is: is the 800 gph enough power to push water from floor level up to top of my tank which is about 6.5 ft at the top of my tank?/...i bought a 155gph pump and it wouldnt pump water to 4 ft higher than the pump. thanks in advance

Thanks for simplifying how to connect a pump.

Sounds like the perfect method to me!
So how do you clean the the poop
For cleaning the poop you would have to use a regular siphon This would just be for water changes

I have this pump! It's really nice!
That's awesome I love it

Wow more power to ya, that seems like alot of work!
Trafish Aquatics it is a lot of work. But, it works!!!!
Thanks

What is that aquatic species that is walking around in the background?
If it's the white one that is called an axolotl
Can you also vacuum the gravel while taking water out with the pump? Please say yes!! If so, I’m sold.
This pump is not capable of gravel vacuming, you can however change water with this while using a seperate syphon for gravel vac.
Thank you so much for this. I was losing my mind. I have to drain my aquarium to change my substrate.
Your welcome
Bless you man you really saved me from hell. Thank you!
Is this pump still working? Still stand behind it? Thank you!!
Yes still works great!
Have you filled a bathtub with water for waterchanges instead of using a bucket? I clean the bathtub with a sponge, i dont have fish yet and been cycling with bathtub water with a pump. is that safe?
Id be leary of any residual soap or cleaning chemicals
Have you tried this with a 25ft horse (garden horse type) to connect to a sink? the pump barely pump any water out at that length that is only the down fall.
I have not tried this in that method
Does sand get stuck in the prop of the pump?
No but dont set it in the sand
Name or link of pump please, not in the video. Thank you sir

Now how do you do a gravel sweep using the pump and with you tank that is on the floor?
This pump would just be used for water changes, It wouldn't have the capability of a gravel vacuum.

You would have to check the head height that the pump is rated for, This one can do it but I don't know what the lower GPH is
I've been using the siphon and bucket method the problem is my sump that I want to drain it to is over 50' from the tank, do they make longer tubing?
Yes, you can find vinyl tubing at your local hardware stores in precut lengths up to 100 feet in most cases
@@TrafishAquatics lol duh I should have known that I just hope I can get the right size lol
What is the name of the pump again?
The link for the pump is in the video description if that helps.
1/2" to 3/4" adapter works with Python and that pump
