      Haha I was thinking the same . I thought it had a cracked taillamp and a broken bumper but then I realised it was the Go Pro mounted on the bonnet of the MG. .
      I had a 1995 1.4 Merit 5 door for 3 years and 60,000 miles . Absolutely no power and crap handling but, comfortable and reliable to a fault and 50mpg always. Only dropped briefly to 45 mpg on holiday fully loaded with a roof box on top.

    • @nygelmiller5293
      @nygelmiller5293 2 роки тому +1

      Oh, dear, my comment got added before I had time to FINISH! So here goes - I WOULD choose the BLACK colour, BUT although it has been mentioned how nice the seats are, I would have liked old school lovely contrasting RED or BLUE upholstery. Very inviting - no wonder people like classic cars! And WITHOUT a spare wheel, how are you going to complete your long journey to your holiday destination? This car DOES have room for a spare. Get your finger out, M.G.! The old M.G. company had a full sized spare wheel under the floor of the M.G.B.G.T., easily accessible through the hatchback. The R.A.C. can't change a spare wheel (if you can't do it yourselves), if there ISN'T a spare! What are you meant to do? Order a spare wheel from the dealer, and keep it in your garage for the R.A.C. to fetch, and bring it to you, while you are stuck somewhere half through France, on the way to your holiday destination,? Modern cars aren't worth having, so buy a MGBGT hatchback anyway!

      More affordable, sure,but when you look at the bigger picture, buying a Chinese built and branded car helps to finance one of the most powerful and cruellest regimes on the planet. Sadly, we live in a world where the vast majority of electronic, and many other products are all made in China, so you literally have no choice. But as long as we have other options when it comes to buying cars, we should consider our options very carefully.

    MG have really shaken up the big boys with their EV Range. Especially this lovely MG5 with its fit and finish, equipment, space and comfort . Attractive as well with a 7years warranty, all for less than £30,000 . Why on earth would anyone pay £32,000 for a Corsa e ?

    • @Brian-om2hh
      @Brian-om2hh 2 роки тому

      Why? Well, they may ultimately decide that buying from a known/proven manufacturer is a slightly safer bet than buying from a relatively unknown/unproven one...... There have also been reports of iffy customer after sales from MG, plus some stories regarding rust on ZS's less than 18 months old. I've seen the e Corsa offered at much less than the £30k you stated.... (pre reg for £24k) A new Leaf can be had for £25k. Pre reg - if you can find one - for £22 - ish........ Ok, the Leaf lacks some modern tech (no battery heating/cooling) but it is very well proven.

Hyundai were available too but their dealers were not prepared to deal at all. It is a well known fact, my friend, that since 2005 there have been no unproven car manufacturers. Every Make on the European Market is now good quality, well built, reliable transport.
      I don't really know how good Vauxhall aftersales is but if their cars are so known and proven, why do they not match MG or Ssangyong or Kia's 7 year Warranty.

    • @davepage1151
      @davepage1151 2 роки тому

      Depends on the SUV and your definition of practicality. I changed from a decent sized Estate to an SUV, and stuck with SUV when I changed car again as the practicality ‘for me’ is better, and I prefer the ride height and ease of entry/exit.
      Some SUV’s do have awkward boots, wether that be overall size being smaller than it should be or awkward loading but not all are, just like not all Estate cars have a perfect boot. Just like Estate cars vary in size, so do SUV’s too.
      My current car, Peugeot 3008 has a 590L boot when floor is in low position which is a bit bigger than the MG5 Estate in this video.
      I personally wouldn’t go back to an estate but that’s because the SUV is practical for my needs, having a knackered back.

      Technically, I guess the battery has to last as long as the original warranty ( 7 years), but when it does start to lose efficiency, you can at least have the pack refurbished rather than totally replaced. A refurb usually costs much less than a replacement. There is a UA-cam video of a UK owned 10 year old Leaf getting a battery refurb. The work took 4 hours, and cost the owner £600.... So comparable cost-wise with fitting a new clutch or similar.

    VERY NICE!!! I would very much like to see this arrive Stateside, although in the land of "bigger-is-better" SUVs and pickups, estates / wagons are a niche market, alas. FD, I agree wholeheartedly with your comments from the Range Rover video that it is one of the rare truly functional SUVs, and most are just FWD poesseurs. And you take this further with this wagon.....the low slippery shape without the excess height. I am big on the form-follows-function concept, despite being in love with many of the barges I grew up riding in and coveting.

    Chinese cars are coming ahead in leaps and bounds. I'm sure that within a few years, they will be very well built, reliable, great to drive, and be durable and as cheap to run as anything from any other part of the world.
    The one huge issue, however, is that by shelling out your hard earned for a Chinese car, you are in fact helping to fund the Chinese Communist party, who have a horrific human rights record, and they also have made it very well known that they desire to be the most powerful government on Earth, which considering how they treat their own citizens, is a truly terrifying thought.
    Yes, their products are cheap, and in many cases (especially electronics, etc) are all but unavoidable, but do we need to look at the bigger picture when we make the decision to buy a car like this?

    As probably mentioned elsewhere Porsche now offer the Taycan in estate form with the rather lovely cross turismo, a lot more expensive and not very practical but then neither is this MG. I feel it's very generous to call the MG an estate with that massive lip and fairly small load capacity, lots of space is one reason I buy an estate but the wide opening flat boot is the other one so it can easily take large loads which I can't see being possible with that lip in the way given how many marks I have on the roof fabric of my current car squeezing stuff in and it has a huge opening.

    It might be an estate but it's got an SUV's ride height! It's some plastic cladding around the bumpers and arches away from being called an all-road!
    Edit: Ha, I paused the video to make the above remark right before you mentioned it in the video. It needs sorting out as there are not insignificant aerodynamic advantages of a lower ride height. Unfortunately I suspect the ride height will be an inherent feature of the platform and might not be solvable without trashing the ride quality. It doesn't look like there is a front air dam or spats around the wheels either, maybe the engineers aren't being allowed to pay attention to these important details...

    Recently bought a newish octavia diesel, to replace my previous Skoda diesel, once a joke now a very competent car thanks to VAGs input, being self employed and having done 7k in a month and a half I’m still struggling how I can go electric but the range is getting there though I still see charge points in stupid places, I’ve seen squabbles already over the limited few up here in the Scottish Borders and then there is the time to charge I guess it will get there but we seem to be a long way off in terms of infrastructure, which is why I need to improve for me to switch - this is undoubtedly a decent car but not sure I’m ready for it yet particularly when the governments own environment minister states ‘they will hang onto their diesel car for a while as their parents live 200 miles away’ 🙄 that steering wheel btw, straight out of the VAG parts bin.

The purpose of the trip is to pick up my severely disabled son and bringing him home as quickly as possible is essential.

      @@cryptmonkey4628 Hyundai seem to have caught a cold with hydrogen here in the UK. During the final sales quarter of 2019, Hyundai sold just *one* example of their £68k Nexo SUV..... As I understand it, there are around a dozen hydrogen filling points in the whole of the UK, and some of these don't have public access or are available in the evening etc. Quite a way to go it seems. The concept doesn't appeal to me personally. I have solar panels, and generate some of my own energy. I still can't understand why European and other motor manufacturers aren't producing something like this - they've all gone for expensive electric SUVs or microcars which are not practical so the Chinese have beaten them.
