I know that England's hedgerows are basically historic land marks but seeing you all pitch and dive through all of them along narrow curvy roads reminds me that if such a structure were to exist here, the hedgerow would have been chain-sawed long ago and the road widened and straightened. It's impressive that such historic foliage has been maintained and preserved. Cheers
Very good engine placement with this car. A pal almost killed himself and me both at 110 mph when cornering a 3000E Capri on the M4 in the early 1980's. Less than a month later, he put it through a hedge and rolled it, writing it off.
Great review of a very rare and good looking car. Your comment about the crystal dash lights made me smile as a friend had an old Viva HA as his first car with these. Following him at night when he indicated the whole cabin lit up bright flashing green like a disco 😊
I was instantly impressed by the interior shot, though only over Matt's shoulder. I then was also suitably impressed by the engine note. Surely a possible redesigning candidate for the instillation of a tuned Rover V8?
The gear knob is from a Triumph - as used on Dolomites (and probably others) with overdrive. Rear lights are from the Rootes Arrow series (Hillman Minx and Hunter, Humber Sceptre, Singer Gazelle and Vogue etc), also used on the Aston Martin DBS
Like most small specialist manufactures, engines from Ford, Chrysler and Triumph on a lengthened TR6 chassis. Very interesting cars and as I now live close to Ipswich, a locally built car and I would like one.
What a great and highly appealing car!! LOVE the stereo with the graphic equaliser and the cassette flap is amazing- never seen that before. Great review Matt!
Lovely styling. Those little crystal warning lights were very cool. My Dad had them on his 1974 Series 3 Land Rover pickup which he had converted to Perkins diesel. They problem was that when you dropped into a deep rut off road the front axle would come up a burst the oil filter. However, the little green crystal warning light immediately told you that you had articulated too much. 🤣
Always loved these cars. Last time I saw one was about 30 years ago near Greenford. There was a showroom in Lea Bridge Road in Leyton east London. It's now a Machine Mart.
I remember these things largely because I spent some time in hospital in '69 and I'd read about such things as there was FA else to do except pine for home. There were others the Gilbern Invader comes to mind, and antecedents like the Bond Equipe. You are dead right about the jeweled warning lights though, it was a Triumph thing ? I had a Herald and a Spitfire. I love your work and look forward to your videos thanks.
Yes, heard of this, coming from the TVR world. They made 5 Trident cars I think, incl 1 convertible. Great to see one being reviewed! Only seen one in my life, sadly broken down by the side of a motorway.
Cars like this one are an acquired taste I think. Not quite my cup of tea, but that Essex sounds bloody great! But then, i like anything with a V6 in it!
Such an interesting car and as I now live close to Ipswich, a locally produced one. Just imagine this with the big V8 ! I love anything different and British.
I'm really interested in cars like these. Can we have more? How about a Peerless and a Gordon Keeble? I hear there actually is a connection between those two.
Probably the most interesting car you have driven on here. Always loved the Trident brand very exclusive, and to me, that's what it's all about, sadly gone nowadays.!
@@furiousdriving first one I ever saw must have been in 1965 I think, I was standing in the schoolyard looking through the fence, watching cars go by when I heard the distinctive rumble of a red Clipper passing by. That made my day !
You need to learn how to heel and toe, or as we called it, double the clutch, on downshifts. I was quite an expert at it as a teen, as my '61 Mini didn't have synchro on 1st and it wasn't very good on the other gears. There were a lot of kitcar manufacturers in Britain 40 years ago. I must look some of them up. That spare placement is a pain. I helped change the tyre on a car over here in NZ a couple of decades ago, that also had to be lifted over the front seats, can't remember the make.
I digged my archives because I knew I'd read about a Trident before. And sure enough, there is a story about them called "Trident missiles" in a copy of Classic & Sports Car- magazine/ february 2002
Matt you will come up with rare different and unusual low volume cars the dash board although its a parts bin special but it an extremely good looking dash board and also a wood dash board luxury keep them coming Matt especially rare and low volume cars to be perfectly honest l have never heard of these cars until now
I've never seen one of these before. I know the pain of bugs in a yellow car in summer. 🤣 I seem to get swarms of them every time I get the wash kit out. I share your excitement for the audio equipment. At first I thought there was no cassette deck. Now I'm curious as to how that tuning indicator actually works on that flap.

The car actually looks a bit like the ISO Griffo that the legend Mike Hailwood owned. Slightly different around the rear and front headlights, but the shape is pretty much a Iso Griffo. This might not reach the same auction price of the ISO Griffo (£300k) but a really nice British sports car
Yup,Yeeve got me wae that one.Never heard of it. Love it. Love the internals. Need to do my homework on it. Had a 1969 Ford Cortina MK 3 back in the day. Fiberglass front wings.Origionals rusted aff. Cheap fix.

At one point even the camera refused to show the lovely vinyl! The auction will attract a very dedicated collector, probably already has another one.
The Volvo they are selling needs some work from the photos, a bit crusty in places but as over 250,000 miles to be expected. The Trident looks as if with a bit of genius thought and work, the rear window could be modified to open as a boot lid. Sideways like the E Type.
Not surprisingly for Bispham, Blackpool, there’s one in a domestic garage near me. The chap had the garage door open, I stopped and said “ wow it’s one of those!” He said “yeah right i bet you don’t know what it is”….. ten minutes of autistic history lesson later, he wished he hadn’t asked!

If you of all people have not seen that tape flap it must be a rare thing
That tape deck flap using the dial was fairly common in the 70s. GM Delco head units did the same. Certain Pioneer and Alpine units did the same.
