I am 68 and like Gerald Durrell lived most of my life in a menagerie from wounded birds to raccoons falling down the chimney ... and my beloved Dad with his dogs, now rolling amongst the stars in the Sirius Constellation probably having an ineffable conversation with the late great Tom Petty. Watching you cook with authority is like watching Nureyev dance, an inspiration. It has been painful to observe that the average age of dogs has shortened .... usually due to the rubbishy kibble that well intentioned vets insist on. I don't care. I know how fragile life is and Kiwi will probably predesease me but as a 10 lb rescue Peke whose best friend is a magestic Rottie/Alsatian cross I know she is getting the best life she can. I Had a rough day today, miss my late husband like hell but I volunteer at a drop in centre where as a life long foodie I love the surprises that roll off that truck. 80 percent of the people prefer the vegan option. Also many people of no fixed abode are devoted to their dogs and there is a list of vets who are available. So I had no time to feel sorry for myself. Deep sadness, we get through it the human condition ,,,, Thank you Derek for being in the world.❤❤🐕🐕PS I always watch The Bishop's Wife on this day; Cary Grant the most improbable angel and, well it;s a tradition ,,,,

I was just telling a relative what i was making for Christmas and I found that I started by listing all the roasted veggies and lastly said I made a walnut and lentil roast in puff pastry. All my meals start with the veg ❤

Yup, looks good! Basically blanched then roasted veggies and dressed up crusted tofu with sauce. I did something similar recently with tofu, portabello mushrooms, sweet potatoes and fresh spinach...also in a rosemary sauce. Rosemary is always very winter and holidays. Delish.
I had lost my way in life for a while .. circumstances of a lost one my beloved Boxer dog and my partner ended our 16 year relationship all at the same time....!! I love what you said about taking the time to make it and to give it the passion you would if it were an animal product. I use to spend a lot of time smoking meat, paying close attention to all of the details, and when I went plant based, I felt pretty lost with all the nuances of it. I definitely rushed my first sets of meals because it felt foreign to me and i couldn’t extract the flavors out of any dishes that I wanted to. But after some time and dialing in, the love came back. I’m REALLY enjoying the prep and cooking now. And the added bonus of no cross contamination. End all suffering. Thanks for this wonderful recipe, D. Into the great wide open! ❤

I watched this at a friends and didn't study it too hard. I didnt buy any meat for Christmas because i just couldn't bring myself to. So i rumaged through his fridge and found all the ingredients to make this meal. I wasnt trying for perfection and let your recipe kind of just guide me. It came out so good and i find im craving it again. Ill probably make it once a week and make a couple extra for neighbors and friends.

We just finished eating this dinner and it was so flavourful! Simple things like the vegan mayo sauce and the seasoned nutritional yeast made the dish so fab. I have learned so much from watching you prepare food. That has simplified the process and made it fun and fast. I don’t use vegan butter and didn’t miss it. I put extra oat milk in the potatoes to make them soft. Gravy is a good substitute for butter.
One, not that I need to announce it necessarily but THANK YOU for influencing me once again to go back to eating mostly veg and trying to think about veganism again. (My friends made a bumper sticker that said “never trust an ex Vegan” 🤣😳😬) And Two, when Frankie said “only you can prevent forest fires” I cackled out loud and want you to know I appreciate all of the humor here, not to mention the amazing videos. I have a toddler and life is pretty busy lately, and I’ve noticed that I’ve lost the joy of cooking. It’s become more about getting a meal on the table as quickly as possible. You inspire me to take more time to enjoy the process and be more mindful of what I’m creating.

My Bella is now 14 and I'll be facing that crisis before too long of losing a best friend. Just enjoy your moments as Frankie will always adore you, too! This is the best, well, one of the best videos. You have made so many. I made these root vegetables and added brussel sprouts, for a shared Christmas dinner with friends. We just finished eating this dinner and it was so flavourful! Simple things like the vegan mayo sauce and the seasoned nutritional yeast made the dish so fab. I have learned so much from watching you prepare food. That has simplified the process and made it fun and fast. I don’t use vegan butter and didn’t miss it. I put extra oat milk in the potatoes to make them soft. Gravy is a good substitute for butter.
One, not that I need to announce it necessarily but THANK YOU for influencing me once again to go back to eating mostly veg and trying to think about veganism again. (My friends made a bumper sticker that said “never trust an ex Vegan” 🤣😳😬)
And Two, when Frankie said “only you can prevent forest fires” I cackled out loud and want you to know I appreciate all of the humor here, not to mention the amazing videos. You’ve inspired me to make so many amazing meals lately. With love from Chi
