it's very common in Indonesia to talk to a stranger just to show your polite gesture, especially in public places where you sit near each other for some time, such as restaurant, train station, hospital, etc. we called it "basa basi". some people start conversation with the question "where do you come from?" or "dari mana?". other foreigner may find it weird and annoying but it's our culture

I like this kind of vlog, fyi you can't just say hatur nuhun for thank you outside of west javan region for exmple in Jakarta they're mostly Batavian and they probably can't understand what hatur nuhun is, cuz not all Indonesian are Sundanese, you can use Indonesian language instead (Terima Kasih) it has universal meaning you can use it across all of Indonesia. Overall is the best vlog video

Dont use “maturnuwun” when you arrive in Padang, cause “maturnuwun” is Javanese language and people in there dont know that 🤣 just say “terima kasih” cause that is indonesia national language and everybody know that.

Language definitely plays a role. Though far from fluent I feel like people do appreciate me trying to say a few words in Bahasa 🇮🇩
As Indonesian who can speak 3 foreign languages (English, German and French). I hope many Indonesian can speak english fluently. Sebagai Org Indo, saya berharap semakin byk org Indonesia yg bs berbicara dan menguasai bahasa inggris. Setidaknya mengerti dan bisa menjawab dalam bahasa inggris.

Fyi before so many 7 eleven here in Jakarta. But since the gov prohibited to sell alcohol in mini market, except supermarket. 7 eleven close everywhere in Indonesia

In Borneo(Kalimantan) when you ask for a price it's "Berape Harge nye". It's used mostly in West Borneo. And when you're in Sunda territory like Bandung and ect, you can say "Saberaha" (if I'm not wrong 😅. CMIIW, I'm kinda forgot how to spell it, coz it's been so long since I worked there. And if you're in the Middle Java like Yogyakarta, Solo/Surakarta, and ect, you can say "Pinten".

Indonesia has hundred of local languages to say thank you. But they all understand "terima kasih" (the national language)
In Kalimantan, you can use malaysia language tone, the local will be understand, but if you can't, just try using Indonesian Language or English...
@@carrotfeed1778In eastern part of Sumatra and West Kalimantam, people use Bahasa Melayu just like most Melayu people in Malaysia but not Bahasa Rojak. Although I am from Minangkabau I understand Javanese cause I got my bachelor degree in Yogyakarta. But I don't understand even single word what Sunda people say, also Bali, Bugis and hundred of other languages spoken by local people throughout Indonesia. Fortunately we have Bahasa Indonesia as our National language so can communicate each other.
