The way you talk abt your process and what s going on like at the very beginning "lets just nervously hesitate a little bit" and such, i bet a lot of us can relate, i for sure can. Thank you for being awesome, being you
I hope this isn't weird to say but you come across as SO charming and likeable. I love your sense of humor. Thank you for sharing your art process with us! I really appreciated the tip about blending with the pencil tilted sideways. I have a tendency to go all-in on colored pencils immediately, but I much prefer how it turns out when you slowly build up the color.
If it's any consolation, I'm fairly sure that skull is a model and not a real human skull. That said, I want to donate my body to medical science so maybe people will be sketching photos of my skull one day! I think that would be fun.
this was such a nice and helpful video! thank you for keeping the reference picture up the whole time as well- it made it a lot easier to see exactly what was happening!
1. this is really helpful 2. i looked at staples AND michaels and couldnt find a colored lead mechanical pencil 3. the pencil sharpener sound effects really add to the experience i love it
I find theese so relaxing, and so inspiring! This is extremely helpful not only for building skills but like gaining motivation, at least for myself. Thank you so much for making this kind of content!❤
Love your videos!!! Very cool scull and I love the teapot too with the reflections. But the voiceover is my favorite, hahaha, especially the sounds when you are sharpening your pencils 🤣
I'll validate you 100xs for your Art Em... always! So glad we've discovered you this year. You've been the one Artist whose video I click on real quick... except for yesterday cuz groceries and errands took over 😆.... Maybe an angry little Gnome with his middle finger should pop outta that skull! 🙃 😅
Wow! They layered so well. There's a shop in the Philippines that sell individual Prisma colors. There might be someone out there as well doing that outside asia lol
Skulls freak me out too only bc sometimes when I think too much about our insides and how our bodies work, it puts me into a type of weird existential crisis XD idk why anywhoooo I love how these look! Before you rendered the kettle's handle, it almost looked like a glass/crystal knobby thing which was really cool! 🤩
Hey, not sure where you are but I just bought Prismacolor neon colors individually (and Holbein neons as well-why yes I did spend way too much money on neon color pencils, thank you for asking) from Blick. They have 2.95 shipping for orders over $35 right now. ETA all the validation is yours, you always make sense and listening to you while I work or sketch is a pleasure.
Thank you so much and thank you for the validation😁❤️ I live in Canada so it's pretty expensive to order from Blick but I think I will just go for it at some point cus that seems to be the last place, thanks for letting me know
Another enjoyable video. ❤️ As a coloured pencil artist I love watching other people's sped up drawing, so fascinating & informative! For the neon pencil thing, have you looked at dry highlighters? I love using them (though right now I'm using some dirty cheap kids' neon pencils which are awesome as well) and they are usually very affordable. This, however, from someone who has never used Prismacolors as they are not (legally) sold here.
nice work.. up until I was a teenager, I was so freaked out about skulls and skeletons. one night I decided no more. I got some paper and pen and drew skulls for 2 hrs. no more scaredy cat.
Maybe Prismacolor scholar pencils? I know they come with neon orange, yellow, pink and green and they are sometimes on sale for $20 for the 60 pack. I know its a bit more then $2.50 for open stocks but less then $8 a piece for Holbein or luminance. Could always hand me down the package of pencils after taking the neons out. Also I love watching your videos its hard to find anyone who uses just pencil crayons these days.
Not sure if it helps but Blick still offers single Prismacolor's off their website. Its how I've gotten replacements, when ever I need something else from them I get a couple of prisma's with my order. If they ship where you are anyways. I just looked and they have neon orange. Also that tea pot looks amazing!
Are you sure about prisma colour? I can still get them open stock here in Australia just looking online. Should we band together and get you like 100 neon orange pencils so you never have to go hungry for neon orange ever again?
Story time: When I was in high school I was taking AP Art (second year in a row) and I wanted a super super easy elective class, so I chose Drawing 1. It was across the hall from my AP art teachers room. I truly hoped to get through Drawing 1 without my teacher figuring out I absolutely did not need to be in her class. I wanted it to be easy. Obviously. School is HARD. Well, she figured it out (curses!) and so every time the rest of the class was doing 1 thing, she made me do another thing. The first time this happened everyone else was drawing a display super simple white 3D shapes. I was told to go to my other teachers room (she had all kinds of cool stuff for displays) and get something 'white and complex'. I picked a skull. The drawing is kind of terrible now that i look at it. I should do another one! I don't know why I told you that, I just wanted to! 🤣 ALSO, thank you for being a bright spot. You're AWESOME. Edit to Add: Your prismacolor rant was validating - thank you for yelling at them. Seriously, worst decision ever on their part.
Look as someone who loves skulls, I don't think your thoughts/feelings on skulls are odd at all. Skulls are disconcerting to people simply because, whether consciously or not, they are a reminder of our own mortality, with a bit of the unknown in there (not only is death unknown, but so are our own skulls. We all have one but we don't really think about it.) But everything you said is an additional layer of empathy. You are empathetic, so of course skulls are unsettling because they're proof of other peoples' mortality and even the life they lived. It's great you find it unsettling for the reasons you said, it means you're a thoughtful and empathetic person. (I love skulls because they look really cool to me and because I'm very comfortable with the idea of death; being faced with my own mortality bothers me little. And that's just two different approaches. One isn't better than the other. We just have different experiences. It is normal not to be comfortable with death.) Anyway you did an amazing job. I think I could learn a lot from your style and technique.
Did you ever say where you got/where I can find the short-point pencil sharpener you use?? I have a long point one, but it does seem like short point may be a better option for colored pencils. I mean, I do have the Prismacolor sharpener which includes short point, but imo it's pretty garby so I never use that one. Tends to chew up the wood cuz the blades aren't great...
I have tried them! They are good but surprisingly not as good at the prismacolor one, the grain they leave behind is different and I it's harder to layer with I find. If I'm in a pinch I will use them though
What about Jerry's Artarama? They have open stock for Prismacolor pencils. They ship free within the US states after a certain price point but it does mention international orders
Do you have access to Blick? I just bought a bunch of individual color pencils from them and they have Neon Orange Prismacolor. It might be different than the ones you're using though
Your voice overs are so much fun and so refreshing!!! Also, I have a really twisted sense of humor and when you said the tea kettle matched with the skull, I thought, “Maybe someone bashed the skull in the mouth with the kettle and that’s why it’s missing teeth.” 😂 I’m awful and weird.
Please explain to me what happens when you sharpen your pencils 😂 is it a sound effect? Do you make that sound? Is it live? Or you add it in? I’m just so curious, after one of them you were laughing and said Jesus Christ, almost like you had cut yourself off to make the sound 😂😂 whatever it is, I love it ❤😂 Your drawings are amazing
I’ve just found your channel. We could be best friends! I talk along with you and agree with all your art points. And talk throughs. You literally remind me of myself and that has confidently never happened before! I am wondering though, do you have adhd. You have a very fast paced brain like me to :’)
@ you also get very distracted lol, it made me laugh when you rolled the towel up so the pencils don’t roll off the table. Nothing will peee me off quicker than non cooperating art equipment 😂 then I can’t focus on my drawing at all after that incident 💖
Oh Em, you are explaining very well. I love it, when you are in the teaching mode. In fact, I think you know a lot about colors and techniques. I wish you would have a little bit more self esteem- but then you would probably talk less about movies and random stuff and that would be a shame either.
“WE LOVE YOU EM!” we all chant in unison
Love how you summed up the video: "I love batman, mad at prismacolor still forever, just trying to dissociate from reality" 😂
😂😂😂
You've quickly become one of my favourite art channels Em! ❤❤
I love the way you interpret the colours in your drawings/sketches which always comes out amazinmlgy well. ❤️🌈
Thank you so much for the picture in picture. I love to see why you put certain colors where. It helps a lot! Luv u ❤
No problem! I'm happy to know that😁
Came for the art, stayed for the sound effects
i just found this channel for the first time and the sharpener sounds are sooo silly i was smiling the whole time waiting for the next one
The way you talk abt your process and what s going on like at the very beginning "lets just nervously hesitate a little bit" and such, i bet a lot of us can relate, i for sure can. Thank you for being awesome, being you
I love it when you do realism!
i just wanted to say that i love your personality and your voiceovers
Aww thank you so much I really appreciate that!! And thank you for watching ❤️
Love these so much! Please never stop being you, your art is amazing and the voice overs are just so fun and full of energy! ❤
Not weird at all 😁 thank you so much I'm happy it helped!!
Gorgeous teapot drawing and coloring. I struggle with skulls. Your skull is really good. Love your pencils. Thanks for sharing!
Perfect title lmao. Love your work and love to see so much insight! Great video em!
The sharpener whip sound gives me life.
Honestly, that is so reassuring to know
Your comment gives me life. Lol
same lol always makes me giggle!
If it's any consolation, I'm fairly sure that skull is a model and not a real human skull. That said, I want to donate my body to medical science so maybe people will be sketching photos of my skull one day! I think that would be fun.
Oh this is comforting 😊
xD i love that sharpener meets pencil noise its so funny never stop that!
“I yap it up” 😂 love your vibe, clicked to watch immediately
Thank you 😁
Your laugh makes me smile 😃 ❤🎉..beautiful art and calming voice

They are fascinating and make really good references!
Your art makes me wanna work with coloured pencils again!

I find theese so relaxing, and so inspiring! This is extremely helpful not only for building skills but like gaining motivation, at least for myself. Thank you so much for making this kind of content!❤
Your commentary always makes sense! ❤. And boyyyyyy I love both of these soooooo muchhhhh❤❤❤❤❤❤ hi Em!
Hi!!! Thank you so mich I appreciate it😁❤️
This was so useful! Thank you.
Love your technique, keep on creating videos on using coloured pencils 🤩And, I love your laugh 😂
I loved this video and I am such a big fan of Marvel and DC. The Penguin series was wonderful!!
Great sketches. You made it look so easy. ❤
I jus love your art and you videos so much
Great painting🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!
Blick Art Materials sells the neon orange single prismacolor pencil if you’re still looking to source that. 13:41
Oh thanks! It's expensive for me because I'm Canadian but I may just do it anyways
Love your videos!!! Very cool scull and I love the teapot too with the reflections. But the voiceover is my favorite, hahaha, especially the sounds when you are sharpening your pencils 🤣
Hahaha thank you so much 😁❤️
I literally love watching your videos!!
Omg thank you 😊
@ 🥰
Thank you for talking about how skulls are SO HARD to sketch! I can sketch pretty much anything, but skulls are very difficult for me too!
I looove your videos ❤
You’re a color wizard ✨
Sharpener sound effect is silly but it's so endearing 😂 pls dont stop 😊. Also, lovely work❤
Looks so good. Always have a chuckle with your voiceovers too 😅
I'll validate you 100xs for your Art Em... always! So glad we've discovered you this year. You've been the one Artist whose video I click on real quick... except for yesterday cuz groceries and errands took over 😆.... Hahahah I have such a hilarious gnome I wanna do soon 😂 thank you so so much I really appreciate the kind words😊❤️❤️
Wow! They layered so well. There's a shop in the Philippines that sell individual Prisma colors. There might be someone out there as well doing that outside asia lol
Thank you! Hopefully haha
I love your sharpener sound effects.
😁 thank you
i allways look forward to thursdays for your videos
i came for the art and stayed for the humor
Awesome!
buddy that’s so good
Skulls freak me out too only bc sometimes when I think too much about our insides and how our bodies work, it puts me into a type of weird existential crisis XD idk why anywhoooo I love how these look! Before you rendered the kettle's handle, it almost looked like a glass/crystal knobby thing which was really cool! 🤩
Oh ya totally I do the same thing!! I hate thinking about what inside our bodies hahahah thank you😊❤️
I'm obsessed with the skull 😭👌🏻
oh god that TEAPOT is sooooo good
Thank you!!!
You are so entertaining. My internal dialogue sounds like your random comments. Solidarity! The work and instructions were great Thanks

Here we are 😁

I now have to make sound effects when I sharpen my pencil
⚡️**whi choo** ⚡️ 😂
Youre kinda the greatest living artist if u rlly think about it🤷♀️🤷♀️
❤❤❤❤❤❤
lol, I always understand what you’re saying.
Nice
Hahahah you’re so funny 😂
Thank you😁

holbein also makes “luminous” pencils in a set of 6 that look pretty neon to me - have you tried them? Would love to have your opinion
I have tried them! They are good but surprisingly not as good at the prismacolor one, the grain they leave behind is different and I it's harder to layer with I find. If I'm in a pinch I will use them though
@ thanks so much for letting me know! I’ll have to find the prismacolors, they’re hard to get hold of in Europe unfortunately
Wait prisma stopped doing open stock? When?
What about Jerry's Artarama? They have open stock for Prismacolor pencils. They ship free within the US states after a certain price point but it does mention international orders
It would be super expensive for me in Canada but it's good to know just in case! Thank you!
Dissociating from reality with art is my coping mechanism
It feels like an eternity since I saw you last. I know…LIFE, right?
Do you have access to Blick? I just bought a bunch of individual color pencils from them and they have Neon Orange Prismacolor. It might be different than the ones you're using though
What was the very first mechanical pencil? It didn’t look like grey graphite, it looked brownish orange. What was it?
If it makes you feel any better? I think the same things every time I see a skull, too lol.
I do understand 😂
You can get individual prismacolor at blick and most art stores. Are you in the US?
Nope! In Canada they are all sold put and no longer restocking individuals unfortunately
@ no wonder you are having that issue
You can buy individual Prismacolor pencils at Michael's
I’m mad at prismacolor too
Your voice overs are so much fun and so refreshing!!! Also, I have a really twisted sense of humor and when you said the tea kettle matched with the skull, I thought, “Maybe someone bashed the skull in the mouth with the kettle and that’s why it’s missing teeth.” 😂 I’m awful and weird.
a skull is not still life, it is part of portraiture
What is the colored Pencils name or brand😭😭
Please explain to me what happens when you sharpen your pencils 😂 is it a sound effect? Do you make that sound? Is it live? Or you add it in? I’m just so curious, after one of them you were laughing and said Jesus Christ, almost like you had cut yourself off to make the sound 😂😂 whatever it is, I love it ❤😂
Your drawings are amazing
Uh i thought the reflection in the teapot, i thought those were elephants. >.>
It looks like dickblick has prismacolor colored pencils you can buy individually.
Thank you! In Canada it's expensive to ship but really good to know!!
I’ve just found your channel.
We could be best friends! I talk along with you and agree with all your art points. And talk throughs. You literally remind me of myself and that has confidently never happened before! I am wondering though, do you have adhd. You have a very fast paced brain like me to :’)
Hahaha aw that's so nice thank you🥹 I'm not diagnosed but I have my suspicions lol
@ you also get very distracted lol, it made me laugh when you rolled the towel up so the pencils don’t roll off the table. Nothing will peee me off quicker than non cooperating art equipment 😂 then I can’t focus on my drawing at all after that incident 💖
The colors are just so delicious! I wish i could use colored pencils like this ❤(* ´ ▽ ` *)
P.s. …. What if the trees are actually 3 faces watching us…..
Oh Em, you are explaining very well. I love it, when you are in the teaching mode. In fact, I think you know a lot about colors and techniques. I wish you would have a little bit more self esteem- but then you would probably talk less about movies and random stuff and that would be a shame either.
Hahaha I actually do have a lot of self esteem lol I don't want to sound Braggy 😂 thanks!
