I think the yolks are greyish because you dropped them before the water came to temp. Even though it was below 185, it still extended the cooking time. Just guessing, though.
Eggs not peeling properly doesn’t tend to be as much of an issue of cooking technique. It’s mostly due to the eggs being older which causes the 2nd protein in the egg white to stick to the shell. It’s the same part of the white that breaks away in egg poaching water causing it to cloud up. If you want to learn all there is to know about eggs and the ways to use them read this book. Egg by Michael Ruhlman.
The eggs cracked because you put them in hot water, usually you put eggs in room temp water and bring to a boil. The temperature variation between cold eggs and hot water will make them crack. But it’s better on the circulator to start with hot water so it doesn’t have to work as hard to get up to temperature
I have never cared about the gray on the yolk. I never even noticed it till today lol. I will try it. I have the Pampered Chef Multi Cooker so I will try it in that.
on your stove, fill a pot with water, put it over high heat and let it boil to a rolling boil, then add some sea salt and drop the eggs. let them boil for 9-10 minutes. Then put them in ice bath for 5 minutes, and there you have the best hard eggs.
Yah, after doing this method a couple of times, I realized that is all it's doing. I've stopped. And I still feel as though the Instant Pot method is the best for hard boiling. Perfect every time. Maybe I'll do a comparison video.

I think that’s a wise assessment!

Yolks turn grey from over cooking.
Happy Birthday Heather!! Hope you had a great one!
Thank you!! :) It was a great day!
That sound you hear when tapping the egg with a spoon is the shell (slightly) cracking. Simple.

It should turn out fantastic in the Multi Cooker!! :)

The sound of cracked shell. New/ fresh eggs will not separate from shell well. Older eggs, over a week will come out from the shell perfectly.

You chill boiled eggs in an icebath so that they dont continue to cook
Standing the eggs in cold water until they go cold stops the grey around the yolk.
I put my eggs in ice water every time and still get grey yolks! But, this was the least grey I've gotten in a while.
Your eggs didn't leak because the membrane wasn't broken. Also you should probably delete Tik Tok :P
I agree. LOL
