The song came out in 1971, and the producer was Bob Ezrin, who went on to produce massive hit records in his career, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Kiss, etc... this Alice Cooper album was Ezrin's second time producing a record in his life, and when you consider the complexity of the orchestration, the excessive amounts of individual instruments and the limited access to recording technology for the time, he did pretty good.
The macabre humor was so cutting and designed to smack parents in the face which delighted their teenage fans - and I was one of them. But even at 16 I recognized great musicianship and even greater songwriting. This entire album is fantastic and this is one of 5 early albums that would make a riveting deep dive Biz. Love It To Death, Killer, School's Out, Billion Dollar Babies and Muscle Of Love - we'll be there with bells on!
His song Pain is a must listen. The lyrics are tip top (some of my all time favorites). Just a taste of the lyrics... "I was the loudest one laughing at the saddest wake...I was the filthiest word on the vandalized grave...I'm the compound fracture in the twisted car..." The album Flush the Fashion is a hidden gem of an album.
An "Agrophile" is someone who's really into growing their own, if you know what I mean. Alice is slyly saying that the neglected, now-dead "Little Betty's" absentee father is a stoner/pot dealer somewhere "in Texas," while her mother works nights as a stripper.
Excellent analysis as usual, Biz. I was fortunate enough to have seen the Cooper band several times in '73 and '74 and each show was unforgettable. A couple of great show openers were "Under My Wheels" and "Hello Hooray". I'd love to hear those one day.
Alice Cooper is a wordsmith .Bob Dylan said that Alice Cooper is an overlooked songwriter .Crazy Little Child is a great song...he has sooo many!!! Brutal Planet is a song and album that needs a listen. Rock on dude !!!
He wrote intelligent and thoughtful lyrics. Some of them sound unbelievable in the "rock" idiom where bands seldom show that kind of intelligence. Ever since hearing "Second Coming" on Love It To Death I was impressed.
The musical arrangement of this song is excellent. I particularly like the interplay of guitar and bass lines and how the vocal melody ties them together. This is seriously good music. Not many bands were on this level.
People mistakenly think this song is about killing babies when it is actually about bad parenting and accidental drug overdoes because parents wont keep drugs out of reach.
et oui, c'est beau de découvrir tardivement que Alice Cooper est l'un des plus grands génies de la musique rock ! Ce morceau date de 1971 et il est toujours un chef d'oeuvre.
One of the band's best ever songs. A staple of their stage set - where Alice axed a baby doll to pieces - it's both deliberately shocking and profound at the same time. From their magnificent 1971 Killer album, it's Alice Cooper on Grand Guignol steroids. (Incidentally, next week a newly remastered, deluxe edition, of the album is being released.) For a future reaction I'd suggest Ballad Of Dwight Fry, from their previous Love It To Death album.
Hey Biz, love ya man! We need more Alice Cooper! His music and lyrics are so good and he's such a versatile artist. The catalog is big and there's a lot for you to get to, but here are some more songs for you to consider to review, Halo of Flies, Billion Dollar Babies, Welcome to my Nightmare, Muscle of Love and for a few excellent ballads he's done, Only Women Bleed, You and Me, and How you Gonna See me now.
Alice Cooper was raised in a very religious home. Moat people look at the subject matter and get the opinion that he is anti religious or evil. He never curses and has schools that teach the full range of the arts to teens in Arizona. Alice is not a preacher however you will notice that in songs like these involve serious subject matter. He is the evil one and always gets his comeuppance. The first show I saw him is was the first shows that Mrs. Cooper took on the role of his partner in and also the executioner of the demon. It has been over 50 years since I had the pleasure of witnessing his showbfor the first time. YaY...
Thanks for joining us on most people wouldn't even listen to I fell in love with Alice Cooper when he released his first album. I was in junior high school
When you put this in context of the ending (courtroom trial), I theorize that the early lyrics are switching perspectives. Starts out with mom trying to say this was an accident. Then you get the prosecutor saying the baby couldn't have gotten that aspirin off the shelf, so it must have been murder.
It was supposed to be like that . .. Deliberately messy and dark one roughly mixed to give the realism of the songs main concept .,.......disposable children parents who really didn't care the beginning of the modern american lifestyles decline
HE WAS A STRANGE GUY AND PLAYED SOME BIZARRE WIERD CHARACTERS BIZ BY HE WAS REALLLLL GOOD IN CONCERT AND PUT ON A GREAT THRILLING SHOW IN THE 70'S 😊 OF COURSE HIS MULTI PLATINUM ALBUM ( BILLION DOLLAR BABIES ) 💯 IS A BANGER STARTING WITH THE TITLE TRACK AND HIS HUGE HIT BEING ( NO MORE MISTER NICE GUY ) 😊
Vincent Fornier has nothing to to do with Forniers Gangrene. NEVER...NEVER GOOGLE Forniers gangrene. NEVER!! DON'T DO IT!! NO!! Oh shirts, you did. I warned you.

All of Alice Cooper is a must listen!
The original Alice Cooper Band was a serious ass kicking Band !

Alice's "How You Gonna See Me Now" is a must.

I agree
AC has one of the greatest rock n roll voices ever.
You gotta see one of his live performances. They are truly something else.
Biz….you breaking down Alice Cooper lyrics makes my whole week ! Great reaction and always on point 🔥
…..not gonna lie,I got a little emotional 🥺
RE. the mix, this was 1971, and Cooper hadn't made it big yet, until after this album, done on a budget.
The "Killer" album was one of his best.
Cold Ethyl, Generation Landslide, Elected, I Love the Dead, Ballad of Dwight Frye, Desperado

BE MY LOVER-ALICE COOPER
Its DOPE ,DOPE, DOPE BIZ
I can recommend their number : Halo of Flies.
It's an awesome one. I'm sure you will like it. 🎶🎶🎶🙋♀️👍
Only Women Bleed of of Welcome to my Nightmare. A song about domestic violence
Desperado - Only Women Bleed - No More Mister Nice Guy I could go on and on and another home town boy for me
My mom used to say " my god what are you listening to " every time I played this 🤷♂️
interesting seeing people interpreting Alice Cooper
My favorite Alice Cooper Group album, you should do this one track by track. I have always thought agrofile was a different word for farmer.
Should definitely check out Cold Ethyl
Cover “Generation Landslide” … The Alice Cooper Group was the best American band of all time . 🎸🎃🎸
Oh and Steven and Under my Wheels
Killer is the most aptly named rock album. every track is killer. brilliance start to finish.
The stage show to this song is something to see
As for the mix... you have to realize that this was 1971.
This wasn't bad for that era.
Thee FIRST anti child abuse song.
I told you before, Biz “Generation Landslide” should be next!!
Now you’re talkin’! Great album!
Love this track
Billion Dollar Babies or Muscle of Love next.
Seen Alice in Youngstown in April! Always a great show!
Love Alice Cooper!
Heavy and Theatrical! Always
Do a review of "Halo of Flies". Probably my favorite Cooper track.
And with this song Goth was born.

This is a good one.
Elected from Billion Dollar Babies is a good one to check out please
Good review but my only gripe, not well mixed!? Bob Ezrin is a genius.
Guess Frank Zappa did the right thing signing Alice. Still going strong
It was supposed to be like that . .. Deliberately messy and dark one roughly mixed to give the realism of the songs main concept .,.......disposable children parents who really didn't care the beginning of the modern american lifestyles decline
Atrophied is someone who loves farming. Daddy's away working on a farm
Detroit Grit 🇺🇸. Has a Great Car collection.
ALICE COOPER-ONLY WOMEN BLEED ❤
The great Bob Ezrin was the producer and I personally don’t see any production issues, perhaps it was remastered?
And the fact his father was a preacher. And Alice is total opposite of his stage persona.
BLACK WIDOW-ALICE COOPER
Roses on white lace, Millie and Billie ?
He had a pile of bloody baby dolls on stage that he would behead and abuse.
Nirvana must have been influenced by this song. The chord progressions and vocals have that Nirvana vibe. 🤔
A song about child neglect.
ACG OK!
I get ya. It duz sound a tad contrived
Very Dark.
You Drive Me Nervous...
Vincent Fornier has nothing to to do with Forniers Gangrene. NEVER...NEVER GOOGLE Forniers gangrene. NEVER!! DON'T DO IT!! NO!! Oh shirts, you did. I warned you.
An agrophile is a lover of soil. Probably a farmer or a gravedigger. Can barely google it because Google is afraid to define the word.
