Breaking down the (actual) cost of rebuilding a V8

- Find out how much it costs in parts and labor to rebuild my Mustang's engine with a 5.0 stroker kit (so it can withstand 1000 horsepower). I also talk about how much power the Mustang is making and what's next for the build.

*addendum*
* my labor costs are very likely on the high side since the shop that rebuilt my motor specializes in LS (this was their first 3v)
* with respect to power, i think i (accidentally) lowered my compression ratio with the non-OEM ported heads (bigger chamber size)
* at 4,500 feet i don't think there's enough air pressure for the stock heads to act as a restriction, possibly no benefit from ported heads until boost
* the yOu sHoUld HavE CoYotE sWapPed iT folks are annoying, but they're not wrong
* i am going to get this thing to 400whp before boosting
Wow first of all nice job sticking with the three valve I also have a three valve pro charge mustang stock internals for 485 RWHP .My question to you is did you consider buying a complete motor first that was already done versus having a shop do it
You should be able to get over 400whp pretty easily from here. I know a guy putting down just over 430 with the ‘same’ build.
Man I’m not sure if e85 would be a viable option but I’m running e85 on my 3v and it gave it a kick and I’m already FBO just had to buy some 47Ib injectors and get 450 Walbro pump lol. Once I slap the hot rod cams I’ll for sure get my car on the dyno and see what it makes lol.
But I also forgot to say you should be able to turn up the RPM with the new cams that you plan on adding. I’m pretty sure the car should have a better top end as well since the motor is already stroked.
What lowering spring setup you got on? And can you give me rhe link please???
A 1,000hp 3v is gonna hurt some feelings 😎
16,000k into a 3v and still cant make over 400whp ? wtf
Until it fucking explodes
@@slowboybk5098 I made a 500whp 440tq 3v for less than 10k. This guy is just buying stuff to document it so his build will be more expensive
agree, it will hurt some crowds but feelings nonetheless
@@slowboybk5098 legit just 5.0 swap and call it a day.
Don’t even mind waiting for you to upload bc I know you’ve got some of the highest quality content
Same
Seriously bro it’s crazy this channel is slept on
thanks brews 🙏
When this is putting 1000 down to the street, go race demonology for some much deserved promotion 😂
I check often, because I’m impatient !
16k for 370whp!? Sir you have a lot of patience to not be boiling lol, good video as always!
16k wasn't spent to make a N/A motor. These mods are designed to be used in conjunction with forced induction
@@blue3v067 true, bit man 16k to still be at 370whp has to hurt just a little bit
@@LukeWaters For sure lol Something like that is going to cost an arm and a leg but you can hit 1000hp without those mods
@@blue3v067 and at the end of the day it's gonna be reliable too
I was shocked about the horsepower number too. I’ve seen cars put down 20 horsepower more without the stroker kit and forged internals. Hopefully the right cams bring his numbers up cause I’d be devastated if my all motor build made FBO Cam numbers.
Love how you are dedicated to the build on this platform. Nice to see you not complain about lower hp numbers, but you are now set up for a reliable build with crazy numbers if you desire
I've wondered about this for some time now.... thank you!
Always excited when Four Eyes pops up in my notifications, i was planning on rebuilding my 06 Gt's engine with your guide, but i made a crucial mistake, i bought an automatic :/
6r80swap is the way to go then
Anyone know how much the automatic trans stock will hold ? Just a general idea
I made the same mistake
CJ Pony Parts sells TCI torque converters that can make the transmission capable of handling high performance upgrades.
Me too man 😢
What a nice Saturday surprise! An interesting OEM option might be Ford Racing's M-6009-B53 shortblock that's 5.3L and is rated for 1000hp and sells for $6250. It's gotten more $$$$ over the years!
thanks for all your continued help amigo.. i think it's time you posted again.
@@Four_Eyes Thanks for the encouragement amigo.
Well now you know the secret. The 5.3L is rated for a 1000 to 1500 hp depending on the parts and how far you’re willing to go . Recommend you engine swap a v6 Mustang 2005 because there’s no fancy work needed for the swap
Holy sh*t 9k in labor- good thing I plan on doing it myself 💀 I’d be broke
Saaaame! I can't imagine paying people to work on my cars, the parts are expensive enough!
@@ec5838 the only thing I can’t do is porting, hot tanking, resurfacing, and stuff like that. But I mean like cams and stuff, lemme save myself a LOT of money
@@mikeepperson792 I hear ya man, fortunately I'm a machinist and have access to CNC machines, but while I can pretty much do anything I want, I still sub out some jobs cause its easier lol. The big stuff that takes a ton of time is usually pretty easy to do yourself and thats where the bulk of the labor costs come in. Couple weekends in the garage you save yourself $10k easy. Just a lot of grease, sweat, blood, and maybe some tears XD. Nothing beats that feeling of satisfaction tho too. :D
@@ec5838 tears? Nah, something doesn’t go right, throw a wrench xD (if you’ve seen the meme)
@@mikeepperson792 Hehe not usually but sometimes you know, when those two piece shitty spark plugs go *click* when you are trying to pull em... hahaha!
Killer video, you hit every major point, quality is fantastic, and you very clearly explain everything you talk about. Love your videos, always looking forward to the next one
Your videos are like a high quality surprise every now and then. Keep up the awesome content bro! Can't wait to see that 4.6 on boost!
Your content is always worth the wait man! Keep it up and can’t wait for the next upload!
Already said but Foreyes puts out the highest quality straight to point videos around. Respect.
thank you for being so honest on what you spent.
I like all of your videos that I have seen. In my opinion this one has to be the best. It's short with so much detail. All the pictures...perfection. Thank you! Im sure mustang fans will enjoy this one for many years to come.
thank you moya 🙏
Love this build, like you, I think we were all hoping for better numbers but I appreciate you using the 3v platform. It's so easy to swap it with 5.0 or ls for the power for less money but building the 3v is awesome.
I've been following your build for several years now and just wanted to chime in to say that Kenne Bell's Tech Line Director, Mike DeCourcey has a 2005 4.6 3V daily driver with a built bottom end and their 3.2L Liquid Cooled Mammoth Supercharger kit making 816rwhp (960 flywheel hp). He mentions that his car has stock heads, stock cams, stock coil packs, stock cats, stock exhaust and tuned 60-70 lb injectors, dual 75 mm throttle body. Just wanted to mention this as an alternative to turbo charging. I believe the 3.2L LC Mammoth kit runs about $7K. Good Luck with your build and thanks for keeping everyone updated.
The production value of your channel does not get enough attention man. Absolutely PHENOMENAL
Gotta admire your commitment to the 3 valve. I always look forward to an update on your project! Good luck and Aloha!
As always I love your videos, looking forward to the next one, and I’m hanging in there for the long haul. I will see you turn this thing into a supercar!
Thank you for the detailed cost breakdown and honest feedback to help everyone make well informed decisions.
I get excited when your videos pop up i get to have all the fun while you spend all the money. Seriously though I always enjoyed the different builds and I know what will work and what wont om my beautiful 2008 with just 10 k miles. Thanks
Great content, sir! I’m an LS guy myself. Having you breakdown parts cost, labor costs, and time to build in this video is worth its weight in gold. Thank you for sharing valuable content. Thanks 🙏🏽
I use to be a long man or chevy man like your self all my life till 2002 when I try to by a new camaro and they told me the gm stop making the camaro because the corvette sales were dropping that's when I hated gm with passion at the time I was 23 years old I had a decent job enough to pay for a brand new camaro but the corvette was like 1200 bucks a month plus 300 insurance so I think gm is just thinking about them selfs and not there customers the next year I bought a new 2003 cobra and I been a Ford man ever since and I really love it on every single way I like the way Ford brings new technology to engineering motors and I don't like the way gm still has the same push rod engine for stupid prices but that's my mentality if I was the owner of a multi billion dollar company I would care or try to at least to see what my customers want to buy not just because something is not selling stop making that product the everyone's want just to sale an expensive product and force to sale it
Really interesting to see how much you spent. I’m planning on going stroker before boost and when I pieced the parts list together it was maybe 1/3 of your final cost. Looks like I’ll definitely be doing it myself to avoid the massive labor cost. Hope those high lift cams bring your numbers up. This is turning into one of the sickest 3V builds in my book.
Awesome start to my Saturday seeing four eyes notification pop up👊😎👍
Excellent video. Thank you for making this honest and informative content!
Good shit man! Super high video quality, and for sure something different! Sick mustang! Earned my sub!
Always appreciate your videos bro, very informative. I'm following closely to see how to build my 3V Bullitt.
Very well done. No fluff, just straight to the point/facts. Thank you.
🙏
Thanks for the breakdown. I hope to get my 2008 to this level in the future.
Loving the build and love your videos man👏🏼 inspires me
My man! Amazing content as always good sir. I'm working on my 06 Roush at this very moment, Brembo brake upgrade, and I'm very close to pulling the trigger on an engine to essentially recreate your build on a stand to put in later. Your breakdown, research and attention to detail are top notch, keep up the good work!
thanks andrew 🙏
I appreciate seeing a built 3 valve. I've seen alot in regards to the factory block not being able to support alot horsepower though.
Stock block will take 800+hp
It’s the internals the block is fine.
He’s back! Made my day😁
Love the vids on the 3V. Keep them coming 4 eyes!
I love your old cams can’t wait to see what you come up with next
What a wonderful, informative video with no BS etc. I just purchased a 98 Cobra, will do pretty much the same thing as you. Thank you, thank you.
Thank you for returning!
Great vid. Short, simple, sweet. Great job
Seeing your videos/other 3v encouraged me to get a 4.6 3v and start my build this winter. 2007 GT deluxe,NA build. I won't port the heads or forge it though😅😅😂 Love your car and build. Been following for a few months so I get excited when you post new videos.
The roller at the outro is amazing
Aye your videos are really good you give a proper breakdown💯
Subscribed. Very cool. I'm more into modding the old 5.0L push rods but seriously appreciate the new(ish) builds.
Thank you for sharing the details. I'm building my 03 Mach 1 Mustang engine right now. 5k in parts and 2k in labor for machine work. These engines are deffinetly expensive to build.
No, please, save your money on cams and keep what you have. You're spending so much even MY bank account is hurting! The turbos should take care of the rest!
I love the passion to see this project through. Luckily for me my SHO doesn't cost much to get 400 wheel hp and high 400s torque...but I'm in the same boat if I want over 600hp wheel hp. Excellent video brother.
2021 and still modding the 3v, luvin your vids. I recently bought a one owner 07 GT all original with only 943 miles on it and the new car smell. Looking forward to the next video.
wow that's a museum piece, well done
Such a tuff looking s197! I appreciate your no nonsense approach! Well almost no nonsense, lol, rebuild the 4.8, it's from the heart, love it!!
Thank you so much for this video, I've always wondered how much it would cost to build a 3V, and I'm actually surprised, it's less than I thought!
Thank you so much for this series. I am also building a 2005 Mustang GT.
GREAT JOB. A lot of good info presented very well.
🙏
Man, love it. thank you for these vids.
glad i found this channel again, good content.
Hey Man, Thanks for the videos I recently got a 06 GT, and was hard debating on pushing the 4.6L to the limit or Coyote Swapping. Your videos are very informative 👌, thank you so much I wish you the best on your project.
I saw another SOHC 4.6 on utube & it was dragracing. Firstly it had big cams ported heads bored & stroked Fuel & air. It took 480 hp in a Viper to beat the 1995 3v!
Keep up man don't stop doing video for this monster
You’re the only dude on UA-cam building 1000 hp three valve or at least trying to love your content I have an 07 California special with a three Valve planning on putting a turbo on it soon i’ll bill the engine after I blow it up three valves or a dime a dozen get one from the junkyard for about 1000 maybe a little more maybe a little less i’ll let you know how long it last still have to upgrade the fuel system before I install it I have every bolt on that you can put on three valve Including camshaft wish me luck
I am enjoying this build! And I look forward to the updates.....
I'm doing the same thing except I have a v6 car with a saleen s281sc motor swapped into it and a fully forged bottom end. Gonna push the limits of the stock blower and then probably a kenny bell blower and e85 to get towards 800whp. Looking forward to seeing your build done! You might not upload ad often as other creators but the content is so much higher quality and information heavy that it's worth the wait!
awesome build and thank you kain
Love the content man, one day I will build my 3V, I know it’s not the most cost effective but I prefer its powerband/how it sounds. Sick build
The point of return style fuel systems is to control pressure spikes and drops. The fuel pressure sensor is relative to your manifold pressure. If it reads 5psi of boost, the ecu will try to maintain 55 psi. When in actuality it is at 60 psi. This variability can cause pressure spikes because the pulse width that that fuel pump gets changed on the fly to control pressures.
Saw you at gandy this past Saturday love the build man👍🙏
This dude is awesome! Love this stuff! Thanks brother!
Always look forward to your videos
More videos PLEEEEEASE. I can only rewatch these so many times haha. Love your content!
thanks brother, new stang video on sunday!
@@Four_Eyes hell yeah! Can't wait!
Very cool and exactly on the point, Thanks a lot.
My guy I jumped up happy seeing you put a new video 😂😂😂
You are the reason why I am building my 3v
Love your video and you have a fan from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
4eyes is a pro. the way he does the stuff. master perfectionist. respect
thanks brother 🙏
Straight to the point. That's a lost art on UA-cam.
great video as always dude
Love watching your videos, great job and keep up the good work! I was wondering if you would want to make a detailed video on your fuel setup. I know you went over it, just a more detailed video on the fuel setup. Thanks!
I'd watch a 10 minute video of just the rolling driving shots you use for the intros, they're amazing
Very good information! Thank you
Beautiful car👍 thanks for the video content. Can't wait to see what's next.....
Wow, really great summary, to the point vid. Excellent content, and I don’t even have a mustang or a car to rebuild a motor, and not considering a crate motor. But if I do, I now have a new appreciation for crate motor pricing.
Did you think of upgrading to the 5.0 stroked modular motor that Ford offers M-6009-B53? If so what changed you're mind to stick with the 4.6 ? Great video and I'm thinking of rebuilding my own 4.6, very informative and nicely laid out video
cant wait to see what the cams and supercharger do... Nice Job. I miss my mustang.
he’s doing a tt kit
@@jaredswarbrick1627 Aw man. I love the sound of a big ol blower. Oh well, I still want to see the end result
You're definitely right about this video I did a full PI swap on my Mustang and it cost me a hell of a lot of money but you know the old saying if you want to play you gotta pay.
Nice! Got you beat on total price Ofcourse but it’s awesome you are showing off the 3v. My coyote swap was around 10k plus close to 3k for fuel lines etc. took about a month aswell. To get everything situated. Now I’m on full e-85 and I’m hoping to be pushing around 460. Keep up the build man. Wish I could see it.
Absolutely love this, I am looking at lethal performance forged stroker rebuild kit for my 2010 put frpp cams in already. Cars sounds awesome
First video I have seen of your channel popped up in my recommended watched it all the way through and went to click your channel to watch some more content and sir I am hooked and now subbed looking forward to seeing what numbers you put down with that more aggressive cam. The 3v is one of my favorite motors the sound is so intoxicating cant go wrong with either path though 4.6 or 5.0. For me with the arrival Electric cars with mad hp and trq figures and 0-60 times I would much rather build an engine with more personality and tone than doing what gets the most horsepower as there will always be someone in a tesla and so on that will be faster than any reasonable street built ice car, even the base tesla model 3 accelerates faster than my buddies STI not to mention the performance version which does it in nearly 3.0seconds. Now there is nothing wrong with spending massive amounts of cash to build a high horsepower car, as long as it makes you happy.
Nice keep up the good job on the build 🏎🏁🏁🏁👍🏻
I like what ur doin. I’m reusing my old 4v wap block that was in my marauder, heck with the coyote swap. I’m curious what compression ratio you settled on and what’s redline now? I think to be successful n/a ya gotta spin the engine pretty high. Those new cams you’re getting should make a big difference
Sweet video. Thank you!
Finally you have returned!
been waiting for this!!!!
Honestly I clicked the video because of this mustang build your the only one who does it and i like the body style to
Could you do a cinematic overview of your mustang? These shots are stunning!
Well thank you for answering my question, I'm about half way through buying parts for my build.
I'm still missing ported heads and the random little stuff that would need to be upgraded.
i would skip the ported heads, very expensive and unless you're shooting for like 1,000+ wheel horsepower, they're not necessary
I am always impressed with the quality of your videos and I am now aware that it currently at this point in life is not worth the investment to go full send N/A on the 3v
We always be here, keep it up
Can’t wait for next vid 😊🙌
Get that boost on there! Think we're all waiting for that! I'm digging this build as I want to do the same thing to a 3v they have much potential and when you put the cost of a new or used 5.0 you can pick up a 08' gt for 10k or less, put 10k into it with boost and be happy with it, or get a loan for 40k on a stock 5.0, but to each is there own I guess, I love the apr gt500 body kit that will work with a gt, minus a few parts and thats the look I like!
Can't wait for the next vid keep up the content 😏😏
Great video 🔥💯💪
Good job man keep it up
I could have sworn you got the car up and past 400rwhp in a previous video! $16.5k to have the car sitting where it is seems real intense, but hopefully it's at least at a point where it can start making the power with its forged internals. Can't wait to see what's to come!
babe wake up new four eyes video
