  • Welcome to another exciting video on our channel! Join me as I embark on a 6-hour journey from Bordeaux to Marseille on a classic SNCF Intercités train in first class. Get ready to experience the charm of southern France, slow-comfort style, and onboard gastronomy.
    We kick off the adventure at the iconic Bordeaux St Jean station, a historic masterpiece built in the 19th century. The Intercités is pulled by a BB 7200 locomotive and consists of nine Corail coaches, each with its own unique character. Join me as we take a walk through the colourful assortment of passenger carriages, including refurbished ones from different regions. I'll be enjoying the journey in a plush first-class coach, with its comfortable seating and ample tray table. We'll travel through breathtaking landscapes and make stops at several stations along the way, including Toulouse, Carcassonne, and Montpellier. While the train does face some delays, it gives us a chance to admire the Mediterranean scenery and observe the local flora.
    Although there is no dining car on this train, fear not! A trolley service makes its way through the train, offering a variety of snacks, beverages, and even Nespresso-style coffee. It's the perfect opportunity to indulge in some onboard gastronomy.
    Sit back, relax, and let's embark on this retro adventure together. Don't forget to like this video, subscribe to our channel for more exciting travel content, and hit that notification bell, so you never miss an update. Stay tuned for more thrilling journeys ahead. Bon voyage!

    Booking early in advance its quite easy to get a 31€ offer. Sometimes there's even 27,50€ or 23,50€ offers and that's so cheap for a 600+km trip! Love it.
    Almost not worth it wasting an interrail travellers day if it's the only train you take that day.

    There was probably a change in consist, that's why the seat reservation didn't line up with the one from the booking. SNCF is rolling out Wi-Fi to these trains when the car is overhauled you can spot the cars with Wi-Fi by the antennas on the roof. The corail is a verry nice carriage to travel in and verry reliable. Don't buy EMU's as a replacement your neighbors in Switzerland could tell you stories. First came the RABe 503 which had a buch of problems when they were delivered and took a few years to get fixed. Then came the RABe 502 where delivered 6 years late with even more problems took about 5 more years to get them working reliably. SBB goes and buys the RABe 501 guess what they don't work reliably to, but SBB is way quieter about them they don't need another "Pannenzug".

    Hey at least the toilette is still the classic hole in the floor plus the giant red brake handle by the rear door. The seats are wide but its better than the cramped modern units. We've done Paris to Le Mans.

    Great video! It was fun seeing the variety of coaches.
    Just so you know, this is not representative of all the Intercités services. The two biggest ones (Paris - Orléans - Limoges - Toulouse and Paris - Clermont-Ferrand) use solely Téoz renovated coaches (which are still getting old), and offers a more streamlined Corail experience. Nantes - Bordeaux and Nantes - Lyon use brand new Coradia Liners trains (similar to the Regiolis used on the Léman Express), and some lines even use Regional Rolling stock, such as the Clermont - Béziers service. But overall it's pretty bland compared to the InOui services.

    Judging by the wide variety of interiors it could've been a back-up train

    • @felixonrails
      @felixonrails  Рік тому

      I don't think so. The Intercités Marseille - Bordeaux is Corail only and SNCF scraps together any Corail they still have and that isn't rusted away yet. But probably the booking system assumed a different consist and a few carriages may have been changed.

    At 8:20, you say something about booking the reservation through SNCB rather than Interrail. Is it still something possible? I can't seem to find the option on the SNCB website.

    • @felixonrails
      @felixonrails  9 місяців тому

      There is a special link I think that you can find on Interrails website. Try this one www.b-europe.com/EN/Booking/Pass#TravelWish

      @@felixonrails thanks for your answer, that link seems to cover only Eurostar trains, e.g. it doesn’t let me select Marseille nor Bordeaux. That is consistent with what I read on the Interrail website that the only way to pay a reservation without fees is from a French train station, I guess SNCB no longer offers this service for SNCF trains.
