If you carry a flat file you can and I do grind the tip as a gasket/machinist scraper which also works great for burr removal and (laid flat across the surface and moved in a circular motion by your palm) cleaning and flattening old gasket faces. Tip I invented when rebuilding my well pump: The rotor was seriously stuck on the shaft so I cut it (away from the steel rotor hub of course) then used a knotted wire wheel on my cordless angle grinder to brush off the remaining plastic quickly and easily leaving a nice shiny hub to grab with visegrips. I've also brushed off plastic power steering pump pulleys to replace them with steel using the same method. It's quick and clean. I install 6" angle grinder guards on my 4-1/2" cordless to use the VASTLY better 6" thin kerf cutting discs which have deeper reach and faster edge speed, either by finding a matching guard or cutting and welding one from two guards. Either way is well worth it or you can spend more on a 6" cordless but for light work smaller grinders are fine. I get most use out of knotted cup style wire brushes. I Loctite my pump bolts because Loctite also excludes moisture counterintuitively acting as anti-seize.
Yea I’d say his job would do well to have a simple socket set. Maybe two, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch sets. Or sockets and a cordless impact just to zip some bolts off. Something that could fit into his pack.
Good work! Maybe get yourself some socket wrenches. I would also suggest to the Building owner/ Site manager to put some pipe insulation on those steam pipes.
Getting the old gaskets off can be a pain.. if you’re careful I like to use a wire wheel to clean the surfaces especially if you’re rebuilding like you did!
Take caution when installing those mechanical pumps seals. Try NOT to touch the mating surfaces (the white part) any contaminates, or oils (hand oils) will stop the rotating seal from mating up properly with the stationary part of the seal..👍
If you’re looking for a good boiler mechanic to learn something, I think you should check out the Boiler Heroes channel. He’s a great teacher. And he posted something new every day.
@@joshmercer6683 Absolutely! I just miss his videos and he was posting after he announced the birth of his baby but suddenly stopped. I have 2 kids myself and completely understand that newborn stage. Hope to see his videos again soon. Take care.
OK what’s going on I need your videos. I love your videos you used to do them every day. What’s going on? It’s back in Minnesota signed big cat, Matt, soft and warm for quiet storm.
I’m ok brother, just exhausted with the new baby and having a hard time right now finding time to edit. Will be back soon, thank you for reaching out 👊🏻
Ah I had a short cycle issue last week too. Had a wonky limit switch. Today I had to fix something left over from a guy who knows a guy...... no wonder it didn't work, igniter assembly wasn't hooked up to the smart valve.
Hey man you doing alright?? I hope the family is well been missing your videos!
UA-cam isn’t the same without you😭please come back

These videos are great, keep it up bro
I think we need to take up a fund for the purchase of a few tools, like maybe sockets. Could really speed up this process! 🤠👍

Friendly advice
Get some good sockets set. Will be easier with those bolts😊

3M makes gasket removal discs which work nicely.

Why don't you use socket wrenches on the bolts? I noticed you don't on other videos either?
Ugh. It’s been too long since the last video! Where ya at???

don't you also check the motor bearings? not to be worn due to rust
Anti sieze on the gasket faces, comes off easy next time. Nice job!
Man I thought I worked in some shit holes. These buildings are rough!
Waht name does your job have
You need some more specific tools and some anitseize
Antiseize makes the next job MUCH easier.
It’s so frustrating. You can’t use the good stuff anymore… (asbestos) 😅
That boiler isn’t taken care of very good must not have a licensed operator. In Mn we have we are licensed from the State
