I had this in '81 and just recently bought another bottle for my collection. I love it. Brings back a lot of memories for me. Great video and music as always. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Be well, my friend.
Love your fragrantica review. Listening to your review, I felt like I was there.. dancing the night away, sweating my ass off but smelling good while doing it. I'm only 47, born in 76. Hats off.
Fantastic intro. You do those so well. I felt like I was a 19 year old again, as I was in 1980. Pour Lui is probably too rough, tough and animalic for my tastes. But Oscar de la Renta's next masculine, 1999's Oscar for Men, is one of my hidden gems. A searing citrus Aromatic with foreshadowing of Terre d'Hermes.
Love the intro video. You completely captured my late high school years looking at all the tabloid articles/ pictures of Studio 54 during the late 70's -1980. 😀
Ah the eighties my favorite decade,in my twenties and footloose and fancy free ,music ,fashion and fragrance were so reflective of how folks were free thinking and woke was a word one used to describe waking up after sleep. Nicely done Mr S. I have a 90 ml vintage of Pour Lui and it is a prized bottle in my collection, thanks so much for jogging the eighties memories in me ,have a super day be blessed sir 🙏✌️👍
Watching one of your videos for me, is like visiting a favourite and fasxinating uncle! I had heard some good things about Pour Lui, and it is available at a very low price, under 20GBP in the UK. You totally brought to life the ethos and era of the perfume and I find that so evocative. I couldnt resist buying a bottle. Thank you!
This fragrance I admit I do enjoy, though I must confess that I haven't reached for this in a while. Thanks for bringing this fragrance to light, Mr. Lanier!!! I hope you have a great day and a great weekend!!!!
Awesome video and fragrance history lesson! Yeah, this one has 80s women fougere. I have my grandmas old make up bag in the garage and when you open it, it has a vintage smell like this fragrance kinda. Older women in their 50s and up where fragrances that smell very similar to this. Probably my least favorite, but I still like it. Definitely has character. Has a fresh soapiness in the backround.
Great video as always Lanier, i gave PL a wear for some weeks a couple of years ago, a very sophisticated scent but to overwhelming for my taste. I have a vintage sample of PL and find it much more pleasing. Ended up giving it away to a friend that could appreciate it more.
Great tribute review👌 my elder brother was often at studio 54 & he told me about! That was the disco era of sex,drug,music.... Unfortunately then aids spoiled the magic! I love this pour Lui even the reformulated version hold! Great to watch you lanier & love your reviews❤️ Cheers🥂
A hedonistic time it was. And yes...then there was the AIDS epidemic. Lost a lot of dear friends in that time. It was a mix of frantic fun and heartbreaking tragedy. Cheers.
Lanier you have once again shown the light on another fragrance that truly embodies its era of conception and yet its DNA has transcended the decades elevating it to a truly timeless, classic fragrance! For me ODLR PL is all about galbanum, patchouli, oakmoss, and leather 💪. Your review on Fragrantica of PL is one of the best I have ever read on there and one that captures its character and essence perfectly!! Thanks again for your thoughts, knowledge, insight, and love for fragrances! 🎼🎵🎶 Ooooohhhhh, I love the night life I got ta boogie on the disco roooooound yeaaah!!! 🎶🎵🎵
What a magical time it was, the disco era. Alas, I was far too young (an infant!) to have appreciated it. I did, however, play a LOT of disco during the ten years I DJ'd (2003-2013), brining it to a whole new audience. Pour Lui is marvelous, too. I have one of those slim, tall bottles from the 80s and it still smells terrific. Cheers!
yes my original bottle was the long, tall bottle from the eighties. Still wish I had kept it. In the 70's and 80's the DJ was KING. What fun you must have had doing that. Cheers. JJ
Disco sucked. Anyone remember burning the disco albums? Saturday night fever aside, and Donna Summer, disco got so bad people vomited at the thought. Love Oscar though
I absolutely adore this fragrance, a more dynamic Chanel Antaeus I would argue, however, the performance of the new batches is terrible. loved the review greetings Sepehr
I recall the launch of Opium by Yves Saint Laurent in 1977. This explosive fragrance epitomized that opulent early disco era. Everyone wore it. I'm thinking Pour Lui gives a similar 'bang'. Great review! 🌹❤️
I recently got a 3/4 oz splash bottle of Oscar Pour Lui that must be fairly vintage. I just dab a little and it's strong, complex, and classy. Great with an ironed shirt and tie for office work. I don't really think of it as associated with a disco, because I have no memories connected with the fragrance. On second thought, I guess since other people might make that connection, maybe it's not a good office scent after all...
Ah Seth, let it take you where it needs to go. Be it the office, a club or a walk in the countryside. You decide what it is to you and that is all you need to know. Cheers.
@@laniersmith1798 Thanks for your reply! I guess I'll do that. It's a really nice scent. It's so well-blended that it's one of the hardest for me to describe. It's entirely its own smell, so I have trouble picking out notes or even finding another scent to compare it to.
Love your take on this one Lanier! Timeless classic from the best decade! How would you compare this to another powerhouse, Kouros in terms of popularity and overall rating of scent from that time? I have it on now and it’s bringing me back!!!!
The funny thing is that I haven't smelled Kouros in years, and I have been meaning to get a bottle to revisit the classic. So at this point I can't compare them. Maybe soon though. Cheers!
Great to see you creating videos again Lanier - Many thanks 🙏
Thank you Lord Charfield I am deeply flattered. Cheers.

I bought this for my hubby last month. OH MY. We love it.
Isn't it wonderful? Cheers Stephanie.

I glad you've made some new videos! YT didn't put you in my stream, guess I gotta put all the good channels on Notifications now.
You nearly had me spinning around the living room there!! Great times!! ❤
Oh that makes me happy! Cheers.

Thank you Amira! Cheers!
I was a teen in the 80s and this was my second bottle of Cologne!
Love the song at the start of the video.
That song is Mighty Real by Sylvester a great San Franciscan who was an amazing singer, and a really nice guy. Cheers.
Love this fragrance!

Best review of this fragrance. I have dozens of fragrances including all the big popular modern ones .. nothing holds a candle to Pour Lui !
Thank you Anthony! Cheers
