… Hace unos años nos enteramos por una amiga dominicana que nos compartió información sobre su biografía que detallaba bastante el árbol genealógico del afamado modista, nos enfocamos y analizamos OBVIAMENTE su rama puertorriqueña, porque era la desconocida para nosotros. Si todo está correcto, estos son los detalles:
… Su papá es PONCEÑO y lleva su mismo nombre: OSCAR (Avelino) DE LA RENTA Negrón.
… Es interesante saber que esta familia tiene unas profundas y MUY antiguas raíces en Puerto Rico con una presencia de 5 SIGLOS. La sangre española que tenga la familia del papá de Oscar (y por ende, de él) proviene de Extremadura.
… Por muchos SIGLOS el apellido era uno compuesto ORTÍZ DE LA RENTA (un solo apellido), pero el “Ortíz” se perdió con el pasar del tiempo.
… El primer antepasado llegó a Puerto Rico en la época de la colonización y se instaló en SAN GERMÁN, allí nació en 1559 su hijo, ANDRÉS VÉLEZ Y GONZÁLEZ ORTÍZ DE LA RENTA, el primer DE LA RENTA de esa familia que nace en el Nuevo Mundo.
… A finales de los 1600’s, LOS ORTÍZ DE LA RENTA se trasladan a AÑASCO, donde nacerán varias generaciones.

in the 1990s he gave my partner who had no education in the art school a shot at creating gloves, he actually commissioned her and she's forever grateful for that opportunity... thank you Mr de la Renta..

It is still so shocking to me that he has passed. He was one of 5 American designers who showed in Paris in1973, helping to usher in "ready-to-wear." The clothes along with the man are timeless. Bravo Mr. De la Renta.
seeing him backstage was magical. that is how you know a designer is talented and not his/her team. he can change a look backstage just with accessories.
I had the pleasure of dining with Oscar de la aren’t a on two different occasions….. he had a gift for making anyone who spent time with like they were the only person in the room! A beautiful man who fed and educated hundreds of children from the Dominican Republic. Rest In Peace 🙏
