    I was an engineer on an ATRA truck back in the 80's and we made 1500Hp+ out of a 8v96 @ 3600rpm with 200mm injectors, twin turbo, 148mph @ the end of the straight at Atl.

      @@verteup Right!? My Cummins X15 makes 450 HP, 1650 lb ft, but it's out of steam around 1500-1700 RPM...Hell, even my Cummins ISL that made 550 HP and 2050 lb ft wouldn't rev any higher than 2000 RPM. That's screaming for a diesel!

      @@Brock_Landers if the Cummins was cranking out 2050 ftlbs of torque at 2000 it was making 780 hp as hp is a function of torque at rpm

    Dude, that's sick. I remember watching the GATR series back when I was a kid, so seeing one of these come back to life is awesome. Motor sounds so good, wouldn't think it's been sitting for as long as it has.

      @@Ol2Stroker my guess was it was about a 74 cab so I figured probably raced around 84 or so I'm guessing not everyone was filming everything like now days but somebody will recognize it. Youv got a bunch more sucribers since I started so someone's bound to see it now. I mean I recognized the mudflaps on your Pete from the k-whopper dealer in New Hampshire.

    Digging the old GATR rig. Gotta give it a classy name. Something from the Era. It reminds me of and old ford truck we had on the farm. We called her Sinclair! That old Louisville never never quit till it just about broke in half! Name her Sinclair!

    Since it's a Ford and with the motor it has why not call her Louisville Slugger. You can definitely find old cabs and hoods laying around for replacements . If all else fails you should pull the motor and put it into a new truck restoration project. Thanks for the update.

    Been waiting on this!!! So awesome to see it run love the old Detroit's and the old Fords from that era I remember watching that when I was a kid there can't be many of those trucks left gonna be awesome to see it restored. You should make a shirt for merch with it just the way it is lol. Just want to say thank you for saving that truck!! As for a name I think Tetnus would be fitting.

    the pipping for the intercooler with the hard edges instead of really smooth transitions shows how far we've come with turbo configurations. still sounds amazing though.

    That will a awesome shop truck. Really hope it's not a restoration. Just grind off the roof rust an put a rag top you can roll out for the weather. Plug the holes in the floorpan. Or buy some bug-eye looking googels

    this was a funVideo for me to watch in the 1980s i was working for a Uncle of mine Building brand new Homes and Housing Developments in the WashingtonDC metropolitain area there was a tremendous Boom that went on for a while and because of that Boom many people involved in Construction made Crazy money for a lot of us Rednecks we thought it wouldn’t end but eventually it did We had a localHillbilly that did Millions of Dollars worth of Excavating work for us and the guy/ Owner was basically a nice guy one of hisPassions was DragRacing DumpTrucks and the Truck he used for that every now and again he would driv e it to our jobsite just to show it off and work out the Bugs his Company name and Logo was his own name so his Race Truck was done up very nice with Custom Paint and lots of Chrome the truck in the video reminded me of that guys Dump Truck another Funny thing was thecWewnch for the Starter my Father had a Cousin that was a Hippie in the 70s and we were close with her Family well in the 70s she was old enough to live on her Own and she bought a Pinto that had lots of Mechanicalissues she moved back in with her Parents and they tried helping her getting the car into better Shape using their Mechanics and Money he Moher at new point had to buy a 13 mm box wrench for the Mechanic to adjust the Distributor it was basically a 90 degree Wrench made by SnapOn or Matco and it was around $ 50 bucks the Mechanic gave it to the Mom because she bought it and my Great A knew i had a intrest in Cars and Tools so she wound up giving me the Wrench known as a PintoDistributor Wrench that Pinto was Crushed years ago and i’m almost 60 years of Age i’ve bought and sold qty or q18 cars over the years DForeign and Domestic had a fondness for Antique British cars some of which i’ve done frame off restorations on , and i made a living working with my hands as a Woodworker and did all my own repairs and maintenance on my cars ,Motorcycles ,Rvs, and a lot of Woodworking Machinery we used Commercially in our Shop that bent wrench has been in my mainToolChest and it’s gotten me out of some strange Jams at one point i had to shorte the original handle with a cut off tool and everytime i use it it’s like running into a old freind that makes me laugh how in the 1970s a $ 50.00 wrench was rediculous but in all honesty i have many Drill bits and Router Bits that individually cost more than that becausevofbtheirvSpecialtyb for performing a Specific task i had to have them like that guy having to do the timing on that Pinto of course that 4 Banger Pinto motor is actually a Legend now and i’ve had many boats with that motor converted to Marine for Mercruiser it’s actually one of my favorite setups with a Mercriser Alpha One Outdrive it’s a good running motor and economical to run nd maintain almost every manufacturer has a Vessel that uses it and some boats use multiple ones on the bigger Hulls another Plus to that set up is they are very quiet and light enough for one man to move around and easily align with some specialty tools like i said I love them they are usually called the Mercruiser 135 horsepower engines and. are standard in under 20 foot Bow riders and Family boats i look for cheap boats with those because i pull them and keep them for other Projects on Occassion i’ll find one in a Junkyard from a car or small Pickup and i will convert a good one to a Marine motor very cost effective as i do save and reuse good parts from others it a cheap Hobby

    For a the transmission go out to rydemore in Fitchburg ma they got alot of transmissions parts get your self a cab and hood there aswell and there prices are cheap and they warranty the transmission I picked up a mack 12 speed really cheap from them and picked up a dt466 before from them cheap runs like a top they go through them

    This is a whole load of utterly awesome!! In the early 90's for too brief a period over this side of the pond a V8 DD (and a few v6's in lower class) was the go to motor for our truck racing top power class. A load of White Road bosses and a Kenny screaming around Brands Hatch etc has left a lasting addiction to that screaming music 🎶 🎶

    I love this truck, well done Wayne! I know is looking very bad, but please consider it fix that cab, i love the way it looks, i would love to see it with the same cab as the original one. Scrap the rusted panels and weld some new ones. This is a big project, but i would love to see it restored and running. Pretty sure it would be crazy. Cheers from Italy.

    They use to race trucks ,think they still might in n.america . In the 70'sit was big . Lawrence/Freeman ran a white freightliner with the baddest 8v71 detroit you ever heard ,sounded like a sonny leonard alcohol engine ,which was in the fuel mixture

    I always use WD-40 to start my engine it will pick it up and run on it and does not hurt the engine

      Good idea especially for alot of the engines that don't take ether well. Detroit's have a cast iron piston, they don't mind it so long as you're respectful.

      @@bigbearfive5 The people who ran it last had no idea how to manage a track. The only real issue there is the trailer park across the road complains about noise.
      But I think you would almost have to bring in Jimmy Phelps to promote it alongside Weedsport at this point. Do special events on Mondays or Sunday daytime. Too many other tracks to compete with on Fri, Sat, Sun nights.

Never involved with trucks, with the exception of gocarts and pure stocks being most affordable(but not cheap), more serious cars (i.e. dirt modifieds) mortgage your house or have incredible sponsors to be competitive.

    Great choice on fuel filter! I run nothing but Donaldson fuel and oil filters on my diesel trucks. Very good quality filters.

      A name should fit the near death experience the RRR ( 'Rat Rod Racer' ) was facing. OR, looking at the truck and it's character a name should match that.

    Youre right on the tune up tho, passenger side looks weaker than other side but aint throwing smoke at idle so she's not hurt too bad at all.. i dunno about the tornado makers though with it sitting for so long.. unless it was kept indoors they probably need rebuilt or bearings at least just to be sure one doesnt chew itself up and spit it down the throat of the motor..

      The tornado makers seemed actually really healthy.. both spun free and have very minimal play with no wheels hitting the housings.

    GATR is not known to me, but process of getting this old hunk of Detroit muscle back to life has been well into my own interests. Been sitting for long time, but maybe just waiting for the right person? Who knows. GATR being not known to me is as i'm from Europe, racing trucks aren't unknown to this part but see'ing cummins was more common. What is uncommon has been drawing me here.

    Need old oil pickup screens tied over the turbo inlets with mechanics wire, to prevent sucking something in, like fingers.

    If this thing hasnt run since the 90s how can you justify just leaving the old fuel in the tank? Was it treated? Even if it was treated would it still be good after 20-30 years? Well forget the fuel, the inside of that engine looked amazing from what you showed. Always liked seeing old ones fire up

      Old fuel doesn't hurt anything at all if it's not all algae. It's not like old gas. In fact I like old fuel better because it still has the sulfur in it and more lubricity.

    When u add the trans in fluid In the filter is that for a quick injector and top end lube where it sat so long

      @@Ol2Stroker majority aren't racing trucks, they're just old farm captives that are basically stock. They'd have to be built out as racers. But I always keep my eyes open.

    Love it! Drinkin beers watching the old detroits scream back to life. My first detroit experience was running a kenworth cab over vac truck with a detroit to push it along and then it had a detroit upper for the vac motor. Talk about bein deaf and sleepy by end of shift 🤣.
