    This truck would occasionally pick up where I used to work (Universal Forest Products in Belchertown MA).. I learned to drive in a 1982 359 Pete, so I’ve always had a thing for them. I loved seeing this truck. Glad that I found it by chance here on UA-cam. Thanks for saving it!

    25 years from now, I want to see a 2021 peterbilt start and run after sitting for so many years.
    I bet it doesn’t start and I also bet this old beast could get parked and shit off today. Then started 25 years from now.
    This is why old iron is worth what it is.

    I randomly clicked on one of your videos, I’m glad I did because it brought me to this video afterwards… I grew up near the farm where that Peterbilt came from when I was a kid I remember when it was brand new… Paul had straight pipes on it for the longest time and it sounded so good it was loud AF… it was always cool peddling my bike down the road and having that rig passing by... it Reminded me of The joker rig on the movie Maximum Overdrive.. I would love to see that on the road again?! 👍🏼

    Ouch. Yeah she was hurt pretty bad. Can't wait till he gets the new engine in her. An old Pete and a detroit are a good combination. Just something not as common. Which is why I like them.

      @@giauqueford This isn’t a sled puller with lowered compression. It’s an engine with issues. Again, I will reiterate, a Diesel engine that needs ether, has issues. It’s not because they start hard in the cold. It’s not because they’ve got lowered compression, it’s not because it gives you the feel goods, any Diesel engine that needs ether is a shit box. Again, we’re not discussing sled pullers with lowered compression. That’s a simple fact beyond contestation.

    • @bertgrau9246
      @bertgrau9246 4 роки тому +2

      I agree, it would have been easier if they had another truck, air it up and pull start it. Pull starting would have been much easier on the starter plus the engine would have been turning a lot faster than the starter could.
      I pull started an International with a 350 Cummins in 1983 (The international was a 1974) it was12 degrees out the truck had been setting for 3 days. Pulled it about 100 yards before it started but it was a lot easier on the engine, starter, batteries, and wires. If you don't have another truck you do what you gotta do.

      @The devil Made me say it LOL YEP! Or KT3406E. He unloaded like 12 cans into some random junk detroit and it took forever to blow, people just dont fuckiing get it that ether does not contain the oxygen to fucking blow shit up like crazy, yes it can happen, but you better have lots of oxygen and loaded with ether. Most of the time ether just can choke it out and prevent it from starting cuz it displaces too much fucking oxygen! Its a simple fact, get a can and spray it the fuck into a weedwacker, lawnmower or something and watch it rev up, then slowly choke out as you keep spraying, and when you let off itll rev up really high and then go back to normal.

      If they had another truck pulling would have been much easier. They could have aired it up and pulled it.

    To all the UA-cam Detroit “experts” who say they “killed” this engine, hitting a half dead, or even a healthy engine for that matter with ether, especially a 2 stroke Detroit one time isn’t going to kill it instantly, with a few exceptions. Although it’s not the best thing for an engine, they were going about it the right way. by spraying it while it was cranking your chances of cracking a piston ring are reduced to almost none. What will really hurt an engine in one shot is spraying it a bunch THEN cranking it, that’s how you’ll crack rings or in pre cup engines crack a prechamber. IDI engines are the worst to use ether on because of this, luckily Detroit’s are direct injected. One other thing that helps is the fact unlike a 4 stroke engine where the “starting aid” (gas or ether) can pool in the intake an has to run down over the valve and down into the cylinder on a Detroit it enters at the bottom of the cylinder, through the ports in the liner making it much harder to wipe the cylinder wall and cause scoring.

      they went about it all wrong. was there a good starter on the engine? were the fuel filter full of fresh diesel? never use that much ether, 2 stroke, detroit, 4 stroke, cummins - i dont care, never

      @@mjt-ew8rs if it’s your truck you don’t have to, this fella has more than enough knowledge, tools and capability to go through a BADLY worn, non running Detroit and rebuild it to be a healthy, happy, smooth running engine. The cylinder walls (liners) are replaceable and would be replaced in the rebuild anyway, so there’s no way they could “Kill” this engine doing what they did. The only way to actually “kill” a Detroit is to window or otherwise break the block casting itself, everything else can be replaced.
