You could go for a duel system, turbine and panel. I think there about £360 eBay and Amazon so if no wind you can collect the sun ..the Panels are only 100 watts but you can add on additional panels as and when. Plus you get the duel charge controller .hope this helps
Same problem here but I was prepared or my plug was.Around your plug thre are 3 rectangular holes where the claw grips your plug. Use knifes, wire cutters or a Dremel to cut them a little bit longer. That is what I did and now I can unplug whenever I want. You still should show your card to the terminal and say good bye or you might be able to sponsor the next visitor charging. Cheers Peter and Karin
Wonder if theres a way of adapting the lead ie cutting away latch section or disabling mechanism IF you get it back . And you should get a wind turbine for bad days.
So cool man. Thanks for sharing your ev adventures. You’re on the he forefront. Once this stuff becomes popular you’ll have an edge. I recently modded an electric scooter. Replaced the 500w motor with a 1500w and upgraded to lithium’s 30a each. The thing rips. Anyway happy new year !
yeah higher temps to a point will unlock more capacity for the car to use when driving as battery's have some of there capacity locked away as they get cold just the way it works
Hi Andy ! I got my twizy a week ago on NYE. You could do with a type 2 plug T2 > 13A from evbitz uk, they have a manual key switch to allow you to unplug the connector from the charger socket. looking forward to more of your adventures.
Hey Andy, yeah I actually just ordered one :-) cool about your Twizy, I guess your not millions of miles away from me, are you in London? Also cool vids by the way just checked out your channel.
yeah just down the road in Kent :) not a million miles away, cheers more to go up just about to leave for South Korea! olympics duty hopefully get some good vlogs out of it
Just playing catch up on your bids Andy came across you a few weeks ago and now your my far channel.Just wamt to say belated happy new year to you and Sarah your channel is everything I like my solar panel shed project is close (need the funds) but 2018 for me is going to be great since finding this channel even went to Halford to look at leasure bats and saw the one you got again when the unds are there will buy it dug my inverter out ready so again big thankyou Andy all I have to do is watch you and copy.
happy new year Andy always enjoy the journey in the twizzy need more of those hope you get your cable back that was a bit of a pain but I'm sure you will sort things out enjoy your break away I think it's 70 amp battery's I use in my power chair the last time they were checked they were down to 50 % after about 3 years use but the chair still runs fine it's 15 years old now cant get parts for it anymore because it's obsolete now but I need it and use it daily the battery's are about £500 each and I use 2 of them the most updated version of the chair costs 5 to 6 thousand pounds crazy it's called a storm 3 from Invacare
Yeah that’s very true, although it also means someone could steal your lead ;) ...not sure what use it would be to someone else though unless they had a Twizy!
Hi Andy, happy new year, I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago and follow your trials and tribulations with “alternative energy powered vehicles with great interest, I own an electric bike have solar panels on the house and love the idea of an electric car.I just think the infrastructure isn’t ready yet for electric vehicles in a larger scale. Also my partner and me are vegetarians. Will keep following your channel.regards Phil
Hi Phil, welcome! I think if you buy one of the latest EVs then you’ll be able to survive just charging at home, especially with your solar panels! Cool about the ebike and being veggie, nice one!
Wow - thats a f___ up about the lead getting stuck. They should have a way to reset it remotely from the call center. I guarantee you are not the only one that has happened to. What a stupid design on their part.
It is a bit of a cost extra but if you could buy or design a small trailer to tow behind the Twizzy with a battery bank for recharging would solar panels that could easily be folded and unfolded for traveling be helpful for long trips away from home ? There's people like me, even younger, retired or with nothing much to do and never been anywhere and cant afford much.... So much time and stuck in a box called home.... need to run away ... Slowly of course, maybe find some life along the way.??
This Type 2 to 13 Amp adapter lead has a key which enables you to manually release the cable in these sorts of situation evbitz.uk/EVBitz.uk/T2___UK_13A.html. The other option is to cut out the piece of plastic around the locking hole on the type 2 plug but someone can then steal your adapter!
DOH! See someone’s already suggested that one and you’ve already bought it! Great channel by the way. I was originally looking at buying a Twizy to do the run to the station but somehow ended up replacing our main car with an i3! Still looking at a Twizy but we can’t charge at home so have two EV’s reliant on public charging might be a stretch too far
In theory yes, it’s all about the available energy in a battery and how best to get it into the cars battery. Via an inverter you are effectively stepping voltage up and then back down again when it reaches the car charger (which is basically a mains PSU) there’s some inefficiencies there but it could work. It would mean you could top up whilst parked without having to find a charge point!
👏👏🤣 excellent 👌 I knew you would come up with a solution 😀 I’m really thinking of purchasing a Twizy after watching all of your videos. If I do get one I’ll be back in touch with you if that’s okay regarding the wheels & spacers & other modifications you’ve done as you are in my eyes the Twizy/ Ebike Guru 🙌🙌🙌 Thanks peter.
Hi Andy , I got a kit off eBay 150watt panel with plastic motorhome mounts which I drilled and mounted on timber strips , a control panel off an old motorhome and a battery similar to the one which you just got for your trailer. PS I got in trouble for climbing on the shed roof from Carole !! Good luck in Thomson !
Hi Andy glad to see you got your battery, as regard to having more for shed I would consider maybe a small wind turbine than solar panels .I have a 200 watt panel on my setup and to be honest im very disappointed with it, on cloudy days it puts very little power out, so im considering a small turbine ,.you can pick these up quite cheep, around £200 and they deliver 300 to 500 watts which I thing for my use would be better,as we get quite a lot of wind I have 2 ebikes one I bought from halfords, and one I built myself .but not on the same scale as yours .I want to charge my bikes from this setup but I don't think panels alone will cut it.. I love your videos ,keep em coming and have a prosperous New year . coming
Haha! Be careful up there on the roof! I hope I’m able to do those things when I’m a bit older ;) sounds great about your setup, you should do a video... or let me know how it works out :) all the best!
Thanks Mike that is very interesting, we get a lot of wind up here too so you might be on to something actually. I always thought you needed a huge turbine but £200 sounds like it won’t be so big. 300-500 Watts would be ideal. you’ve only got to store enough energy to charge the bike. I’ll have to look into this, your the expert! Have you got any recommendations?
Happy New Year Andy, hope it'll be a good one... Bummer about the chargepoint, but still early days - they should be taking notes to fix these issues in the future. I can't get why the Twizy can charge at 32 amps but at 2.2kWh? It's been always a rule of thumbs that at 220 volts, 16 amps was 3.3kWh and 32 amps was twice that. If the Twizy is an 80 volt system, isn't it stepping down the charge it's getting?
andy kirby oh still here mate been following the Twizy vids with great interest its a qute little thing lol. Did send u both a merry x-mas message last week but u must have missed it lol. We had a really busy day with family in and out all day but was good as always. Just bought the ic-7300 this end as well Andy the little brother to your receiver. Cracking radio mate just waiting for the vhf uhf tri band base to b released. Very nice set of radios tho.
I would love to have a Renault Twizy but : much narrower (90cm max), 4x4 and with removeble batteries so I can park the vehicule everywhere for free and charge at home. And much more powerful as well.
I see these things many times on youtube , the charging is a major problem in many countries. Also I would get fat at all these charging points because I would eat if I was bored.
you need a switch for disconnect CP from PP . even better is having 2 switches. for details see this drive.google.com/a/offner.be/file/d/17m9NUELX2Np7qokfRdFr1hrge3zQxXrG/view?usp=drivesdk I have 2 "reed switch" in my adapter. Should not be a big deal to add them to your adapter as well and cost for this is just a couple of pennys.
What a complete waste of time electric cars are, always will be. Why not have a car with a proper fuel tank. I go and fill my car with Diesel and drive more than 600 miles without having to find a silly electric plug- Doomed doomed, you’re all electric dreamers you can keep them.
Absolutely amazing mate. You're truly an electric automotive pioneer.
You could go for a duel system, turbine and panel. I think there about £360 eBay and Amazon so if no wind you can collect the sun ..the

Thanks for the comment! Good to hear about your scooter! That sounds excellent!
13:04 So the Twizy need a 220 to triphase adapter?
Well done Andy for your patience !
I am amazed that you posted in public yourself filming as you drive one-handed holding your camera/phone
yeah higher temps to a point will unlock more capacity for the car to use when driving as battery's have some of there capacity locked away as they get cold just the way it works
keep it up dude i find your vids entertaining.

Fantastic! I’ll look out for that. Good to have another Twizy owner around here lol!
Did you ever get the lead back?
Happy New Year Andy!
That's funny i was just across the road by tOys R US when that rain tipped it down the same day.... great video
Small world! Thanks Gary 👍
Hi Andy, just checking, you did stop the charge before you tried unplugging the cable didnt you? Nice video
Happy new year Andy love the videos..can't wait for the next one...yer I'm that sad I've just spent the last two weeks checking them all out.
Welcome! Glad you found the videos interesting! Stay tuned for more 👍

This may have been answered or picked up in another of your videos but you can dremmel out the tab on the lead which will allow you to release it.
Yeah that’s very true, although it also means someone could steal your lead ;) ...not sure what use it would be to someone else though unless they had a Twizy!
andy kirby oh yea, I think it was the only idea out there a couple years back when a mate got his!
Wait, y'all have a bunnings wharehouse in the uk???? I thought that was only a new zealand hardware store. Lol im living under a rock.

Hi Andy, try one of those 12v fan heaters out for your twizy, Thanks for the great videos.look foreword to the northern lights.
Hey, yeah thought about it but I don’t think they really kick out much heat?
andy kirby ua-cam.com/video/4YWjw67OPZ4/v-deo.html
Not worth it, they use a fuck load of power and the twizzy doesnt have a sealed cabin so the heat would escape as fast as its created.

I just crashed one of my Ebikes . I still plugged it in and it charged up fine . I don't think the battery was too badly affected .
Ah sorry to hear that, hope you didnt actually hurt yourself. Be careful with the battery, check it over if you can.
Cheers man . I cut open part of my head and damaged my shoulder . I will look at the battery .
I am perhaps of the mark with this idea but could you use the battery a inverter and your car plugged into the inverter
In theory yes, it’s all about the available energy in a battery and how best to get it into the cars battery. Hi Andy. Love your Twizy videos.
Did you ever get your charging lead adapter back from podpoint 🤔🤔😵💫
Thanks! Yes I got it back, I've since dremeled away the locking lugs on the plug so it will never happen again!🤣
👏👏🤣 excellent 👌 I knew you would come up with a solution 😀 I’m really thinking of purchasing a Twizy after watching all of your videos. It’s 32A at 60V going into the battery, the charger inside the Twizy is 10A at 240V.
All the times I've used that car park and I've never noticed that charging point there
Can you drive these in uk on cbt or full motorbike licence cool video
Hmm not sure, it’s classed as a quadricycle not a car.
All the best to u both mate hope its a good one for u. Hope u have better luck with the Northern lights this time. Its on my bucket list too.
Same to you mate, I wondered where you had got to! Hope all is well!

Did you get it back
Yep! See the next videos!
Great video!
I have a suggestion “longboard vs one wheel”
Haha! It would be longboard all day long for me!
Happy New Year Andy, hope you get your lead back !! I did solar in the shed, it’s up and running, not bad for 73 ! Good luck !
Hi David! It looks like they’ve freed the lead, hopefully it will be on the way back! Well done on the shed that’s awesome! Which stuff did you get?!
Why don’t these things just use a pin to unlock the charger seems like an easy solution
£300 for a lead. What the heck lol 😂
I see these things many times on youtube , the charging is a major problem in many countries. Also I would get fat at all these charging points because I would eat if I was bored.
Yeah most charge points are near coffee shops!
Your baseball cap is on the wrong way round.

I like being a dreamer! Also I still have a diesel but it sucks having to pay £60 of taxes to fill it up each time.
That anti dreamer attitude would have left people still on horse & cart.
