You're having way too much fun. It's down right illegal. Brilliant. I'm living vicariously through you in the Twizy. Start a local Twizy club. You guys could share knowledge of upgrades and repairs and go on excursion rallies. Nice.
The CT makes more sense every 2 years. Similar to Germanys test every 2 years. God knows why in the UK it's every year (maybe making more money is the idea)
I think there was some discussion about bringing UK in to line with Europe with the 4 years and then every 2 years, but I think it was a few years ago now, may be it was rejected. Sorry I'm not more up to date but I've not lived in UK for nearly 8 years!
@@BillyNoMates1974 All these useless controls are just money pits and are only made to make the greedy mechanics earn a lot of money with the help of the state. Complete bullshit.
Only in GB is the MOT test first needed 3 years after the first registration of a new vehicle. In Northern Ireland, the MOT test is first needed 4 years after the first registration of a new vehicle.
When was the vehicle first registered anywhere in the world? How long the WoF is issued for New vehicle that’s never been registered WoF is issued for three years Less than two years ago WoF is issued to the vehicles third ‘birthday’ (third anniversary of when it was first registered) More than two years ago, but less than three years ago WoF is issued for 12 months On or after 1 January 2000 WoF is issued for 12 months Before 1 January 2000 WoF is issued for 6 months, WOF (MOT)for NZ vehicles.
I really would love to buy a Twizzy, sadly the nearest MOT test place is well outside the range of a Twizzy for me.. and right now that's the only reason I have not bought one.
Andy, looking into buying a new Twizy is proving a bit hard. Renault Cambridge only has one Twizy in and this is THE only brand new twizy in the UK at the moment. There is a 3 month waiting list for the Twizy (If I wanted another twizy). I am currently waiting on Renault to come back to me about a PCP deal swap to this twizy. I then asked about a Renault Zoe but there is a 9 month waiting list for it ! The postal service in France has just ordered 4000 Zoe's hence the hold up ! Renault Cambridge currently has 25 on forward order just from that dealer alone ! So it's back to the twizy
Hey mate, maybe try and find a used one, also they are easier to tune. The new ones can now be tuned as of last month but I think it will completely void the warranty. Crazy about French post office and the Zoe’s, that’s real EV progress right there.
I am really not a fan of LED retro fit lamps, as the optics of the lamp/reflector unit is calibrated for an incandescent and not a LED COB of LEDs, that's why so many bad retro fit examples that just blind oncoming drivers. Please point out that when replacing OEM lamps with retro fit LED, please tell them to check the alignment.
Yes, right. It should be common sense when doing any modification to headlights that you check the alignment and the beam is not blinding anyone. I’ve tested about 4 different type of LED bulbs comprehensively to find a set that don’t blind drivers or cause irregular beam patterns.
@@andykirby if you got proper LED globes that are designed for old school headlights instead of the cheap ones you wouldnt have an issue with the beams. l put jw speaker led in my himalayan and only had to tweak the adapter a little (they are designed to be adjusted) and they work just like dino globes just with more usable light and when you only have one headlight you need all the light you can get, preferably without blinding on coming traffic (which is where the cheap globes fail)
Hi Musician Andy Kirby, Nice videos ,congratulations! From the nice old lady you mentioned here I understand you got the Twizy on second hand. How much would a used one go for, do you reckon ?
I may not be the OP (Original Poster) but I know a used one goes for around £4,450+ depending on spec and model. At time of writing there are 10 on Autotrader from the price mentioned. Hope this helps!
also please can you explain how buying new works out cheaper. ive always thought the cheapest way is to buy 1-2 year old cars under 10k miles on autotrader paying as much as possible upront and then the rest on lease. then selling privately when ur done with it.
only 3 years old. Crazy. I could see testing the exhaust of cars 10 years and older to test for pollution but if the lights work. That is what cops are for
By using non tested led bulbs you can blind drivers and if you or other driver get in assident you will say bye bye to your driving licence and can be even worth.. think twice if it worth to risck
Probably true but you might end up hitting something yourself if you have such poor lights. I know I wouldn’t have seen a deer in the road the other day if I was using the standard very dim lights.
i think 2 lots of mots in a year sounds good if you do millage and like other countrys they set up the car for winter 2 to make sure you know whats what and whats not ,Cheers Andy xx
Just took my twizy for mot. The mechanic said he'll pass it but he shouldn't because it doesn't have a rear fog light. Nothing has been changed on lights so either he's missed them or it doesn't have then and is probably exempt same way motorbikes are.
sorry, bit off message this Q, would you or anyone else watching know what type of brake fluid Twizy needs? I know dot4 is fairly standard nowadays but as it's not a performance car maybe dot3? Cheers.
It’s not happening, the bike is ready for it but I’m not proceeding as I use it mainly off road now. Others can use my info and videos if they want to register their own ebikes.
:/ yeah, the main reason I've started watching these videos to figure out how difficult is to get it done. Even though I am planning to get a 6KW one with Carbon frame and lights built in.
I wouldn't be too worried about the Twizy passing it's MOT considering all the noisy, polluting, illegal garbage that seems to get through these days (modified 'loud pipe' motorbikes, DPF-removed diesels, etc)
It's a excellent car, but they should simple upgrade it. The doors without windows is really confusing. Why would 2 doors really needed if 1 door with windows could be so much better. Many people are also with their privacy stuffs and also when they are doing shopping, they can't carry with them along. And about the heating for the cold and even for cooling they could attach some solar system on the roof.
MoT... ministry of transport... ireland is the NCT.. national car test.. in ireland.. nct after 4 years and then every two years until car is ten yrs old then its every year after that...
Damn! You have to do a MOT every year? Even in Germany they let you off the hook for two years, the Twizy45 doesn´t have to show up even once during his lifetime.

I'd like to have one of these. Or something similar. I don't know about firing in it! I'm just over 6'2" and 300lbs. And the performance concerns me also. I don't want a golfcart! I'd like a 0-60 of atleast 7-8 sec. Yeah the break rotors can start rusting in minutes after the last use! Looks like long term storage would hurt the batts ? I thought long term storage should be at nominal voltage!
I really fancy getting a Twizy, but until the Irish government get their finger out their crony old a*ses and stop charging 120 euro a year for road tax on EV's, I'm not going to bother 😕

Thanks for the info! No, the standard twizy uses candescent bulbs all around. It’s not really in keeping with its energy efficient design!
