The Terminus XR saved SOG as a brand for me! I had pretty much given up on them!!!

I hadn't look at getting a S.OG. until a friend gave me the Seal XR Flipper for Christmas this year. It's been my EDC ever since. So far it's been great , other than the weight I have no complaints. The XR lock is super smooth with zero play , the blade is a great slicer & I'm sure will fair fine if I'm caught in a self defense situation. If looking for a hard use , big tactical folder this is it.

I had a friend help round off the sharp edges of the flipper tab and now this knife is one of my favorite edc "carries". It's a great knife with fidget factor after smoothing out the flipper tab.

Nice, but would like it just a bit larger. Oh, okay I'll wait.

The SOG salute was my first "real" knife and is still one of my favorites.

Never been a fan of SOG but this one is intriguing. Would be nice with an actual hollow grind.

At 7:23 you say SOG stands for Special Operations Group. On SOG Knives website it says that it stands for Studies and Observations Group.

I like the flipper + axis lock! One thing I hate about folder knives when backpacking in the cold ( below freezing ), is that it is a pain to open them with heavy globes. The flipper is a good alternative because many times a fixed blade is not necessary for a day hike. And by the way; that Sog is better looking than that ZT. (Glorified kershaw 😁)

I bought one directly from SOG for $71 some time ago (yes, it was the S35VN) and it had a bent lock bar. They told me that I'd have to pay to ship it back even though they sold me a defective knife. I decided to just return it.

I have this exact knife. I only paid $80 for it. By far my new favorite EDC behind my spyderco ikuchi(nothing will ever replace that for me) only thing I don’t care for is the thumb studs. They are completely unnecessary and I will be removing them the minute I get this knife home. I did the same thing to the D2 version I sold recently. Made it a MUCH nicer looking knife. Reminds me of the spydie hole on my ikuchi. Completely useless but cute lol.
Defiantly the best bang for the buck S35VN steel knife ever made in my opinion.

  • @Ammosexual69
    @Ammosexual69 4 роки тому

If you want to remove the thumb stud, they are only threaded into each other. Just take 2 pairs of pliers and twist in opposite directions.

I’ve been wanting one of these since the original one came out, I wish they would of kept the bdz1 version as a budget option for people that don’t like d2 and can’t spend over $80 for the s35vn version

"This is Slicey and you've just been diced!" The more affordable ones look better online. Glad to know the premium version looks better in person.

I have a D2 version with Green G10 grips and as someone who's only ever bought cheap $20 knives up until now, I have to say I feel like I've been cheating myself with how well made it is, at least by comparison. It cuts and keeps its edge very well, and the locking action was pretty tight when I first got it but it became pretty smooth after using it for 2-3 days. Honestly this is probably the best knife I've ever bought so far and I'm honestly so impressed that I'll probably buy a second one in case I ever lose this one. I'm sure the other versions are nicer but these standard versions definitely aren't anything to look down on either.

As of early 2022, in Australia there are 4 versions of the Terminus XR available to me. The basic one made from D2 and crimson G10 at about 68 USD from my local retailer. The now defunct BDZ1 version with carbon and G10 handle is about 91 USD. They probably can't sell them on account of there being a "better and shinier" S35VN version for 140 USD. They don't have the XR LTE at my usual retailer, but I have found a TiNi coated one selling for 192 USD. This knife is nice, but the carbon fibre frame on the XR LTE is bizarre. Overuse of CF makes your stuff look like plastic. I think I'll buy the D2 version and give it to my brother as a gift if I ever feel like upgrading.

Just got this a week ago. With the same s35vn blade, and all I use it for is to cut tape at work, and it’s already dull, so much for tough edge retention.

I think that Sog are really changing their game. It's great. I like this version in the crimson red g10.. Not that there is anything wrong with the cf, I just like red.
Would love to see you review the Sog Ultra Xr.. The really slim one with the bar lock.
    Great review Bryan, well enjoyed!

I like mine well enough. Got a couple complaints, though. The detent is unusually stiff, thumbstuds are useless, and the CF overlay has very sharp milling. Still, for $80, seems to be a value.

I watched your video because I just received a Terminus XR in the mail today. Right out of the box the action is very stiff. I can barely open it with the flipper; very different than yours. Do I need to disassemble it and lubricate it or did I get a lemon? Thanks for the video; very helpful.

I hate how the pocket clip wraps around the end of the knife. I had to cut the SOG logo out with my Dremel. Good knife but the clip is ugly and weird.

    • @jonr1510

Good idea to cut the sog out with a dremel. I'll be doing that when I get home tonight👍

  • @JustIn-op6oy

If SOG keeps up their former tendency to be generous with spare parts, I'd just call them up and ask to have a couple of the omega-style springs sent out to have spares if one ever breaks.

Did they ask you to pay the return shipping ? I had the scale and liners misaligned at the pinkie and I figured they’d exchange it because of the QC issue but they politely accepted my return and told me I had to pay the shipping and they’d ship it back to me for free! 🤷🏽‍♂️

It hurts my hand. Honestly, not a fan. I bought it to fidget and as part of my collection. Easily my least favorite knife in my collection. The flipper took like a gallon of oil to get working and the clip digs deep into your hand while closing.

So I got a D2 version from the local Pawn emporium, and it's been kind of a disappointment.
The action has been grindy as crap. The thumbstuds are unusable. And the flipper was meh. I opened it up to try and clean out any gunk, only not to really find any. I did find a circular shim in the bearing section of the knife that had dents in it from being overly tightened (I assume in manufacturing)
But yeah I really wanted to love this knife as I wanted and axis flipper (unlike some people who shall remain nameless). But this has been so disappointing. And I'm afraid to sell it with the shim as I'm afraid I'd get blamed for something that isn't my fault.
