Original, unvarnished, simple folk entertainers that never strayed far from their roots. So refreshing! jrr
I heartily concur !
Absolutely, such good quality music, it seems like it was from a different age.
R.I.P Burl Ives and Johnny Cash, two greats that entertained the world with their great music. They will never be forgotten.
*Both of these men had talent that can only be described as "home-spun genius."(!)*
I wish they were still alive. Burl Ives and Johnny Cash you will be remembered forever.
I thought they were two of greatest people and singer's
American legends!
but most have forgotten him! he does not get the recognition he deserves.
Burl Ives was a hell of an actor too, very talented man.
And songwriter
@@susanhancock1634 About anything he did, he excelled at while making it look deceptively easy.
I thought that was him Yes, I've seen him in the movies. He is a good actor. Did not realize he could sing. He has a beautiful voice.
3:57 Love Burl Ives singing and movies watch since when I was younger Always made me happy and joyous gladly welcome listening to both. A Great Singer.,....
@@soniacurrie4378 What movies?
im from the UK, Burl was loved so much over here, i still tear up when i hear him sing, i should no better at 65 years old
I had a record of him singing "Blue Tail Fly" to a British audience in the 50s and the crowd went wild ! I am so happy he had so many wonderful fans in the UK.
Tearing up is an uncontrollable reaction to people with a caring Heart. No need to apologize! Some Patriotic songs brings the same reaction for me!
Why? It just shows you have excellent taste
@@charlescampbell6756 I've noticed since I entered the over sixty club a lot of things makes me misty eyed .
I’m in Ireland and in my early Eighties and i also tear up,A little bitta tears let me down,Fantastic Memories.
That was beautiful.that is TRUE COUNTRY MUSIC and folk music too.they sounded great together🥰🥰🥰
Amen
Burl and Johnny, what a class act something today’s entertainers could take a lesson from!
What I wouldn't give to have these two men still alive and singing today.
Two legends, singing the songs they sing best.
balladeers such as this are so rare.
missed and remembered.
same here little bitty tear will aways be my song
I really don't think the young of today would "waste their time" with real music like these to icons produced.
@@robertjwilliams3532I brought out for my kids . Disney Polly Anna with Haley Mills. They got a kick out of Burl Ives singing. The Ugly 🐛 Bug Ball. I grew up with his music. They are r always a joy to listen to
If only I could go back in time and stay there. ...miss those times.
Me, too! This 21st century sucks!
Truth is the constant constant.
My grandfather had a voice just like Burl Ives, only with a bit different of an accent, and Johnny Cash has been one of my favorite songwriters since I was little. So seeing them here together is just something else.
Well, if your grandpa had a different accent, his voice wasn't exactly like Burl Ives.
This is one reason why UA-cam is so awesome! Two of the best, each such great storytellers/singers!
Yes
I agree 100 per cent.
Yes
heros both
I wish they still made music like this this world would be a much better place if people could
TWO VERY SPECIAL TALENTS TO THIS 82 YEAR OLD....
Thanks for the video Burl Ives brings happy memories of days when life was easier slower and friendlier not so in 2024 .
these two compliment each other so well
ejp42 Oh yes
Lovely ! My wife Joan of W. Australia clapped when she heard these two. - John Massam
Oh Mary, don't you weep... wonderful to see this again, thanks for sharing it.
These two had such great chemistry.
What we would give to see this kind of Talent today...!!
Sadly there's no audience for this type of wonderful music anymore, unless it's Boomers. Young people wouldn't listen to this if you paid them.
Burl Ives was the best singing ballads Thank you for these video's
I does not get much better than this.
Absolutely wonderful. Such a long time ago. But remembered with love & longing.
They left us with the greatest songs . Thank you
Bellissimo video! Bellissima performance! 😊🤗😍🎶🎸🎶💘❤️💔🙏
Burl Ives and Johnny Cash such amazing singers and actors
Burl was also a great composer. I remember "A little bitty tear" playing on the radio in the 1960's
I think this is an absolutely great performance! Two absoultely great songwriters, balladeers and singers who had gone by! Many thanks for sharing and many greats from Germany!
I have this song on a 45. It's been played so much it's nearly worn out but I still love it.
Two greatest country singers ever 😁 RIP 😢
Rip in peace burl Ives an Johnny cash we will never forget these great artists
Burl Ives was a national treasure.
My 1st. record 78 in red vinyl late 40s, was the multi talented Burl Ives!!
Two of the greatest legends - patriots, songwriters and balladiers of the 20th century, joking about their families being on different sides of the Civil War. Burl was famous for his many children's songs, a lot of which he wrote. No auto-tune electro-pop like today!
And no digitally remastering back then, which has ruined so many great songs, today. Just whose hare-brained idea was it to do that? Just because the technology became available doesn't mean that kind of tampering should have been done. LEAVE OUR PRECIOUS OLD SONGS ALONE!
Johnny was so in awe of Burl Ives. My two favorite performances with Johnny on his show are this one and the ones with Marty Robbins.
What a great video clip
Both Burl & Johnny were wonderful artists----VERY,VERY GOOD!
That's a fact !!
The old balladeers are dead or dying off, and I honestly haven't heard many singers today that are even close to the talented singers and guitarists we grew up with in America. What is the matter with the new generations? Don't they have any sense of sentimentality or any ear for good music? I know there is a generation gap, and I'm just an old 75 year old relic, but sometimes I think good music is dead today. If we didn't have these old videos, nobody would know the difference.
Couldn't have said it better, myself, at 71+. I still have most of those old vinyls and yes, a turntable. Sure do miss those simpler times when artists had a lot more soul and weren't afraid to express it. Much of what we have today isn't worth listening to.
Johnny Cash, Burl Ives and les Paul and Mary Ford were my favorite singers along with Gene Autrey.
Such perfect harmonizing.
I could not agree more !!
I am loving comments on the wonderful Burl Ives.A great singer actor and humourous personality that I have loved since I started watching TV.Grown up now so can see his films.
Genuinely an American hero. He brought songs to all. Love him.
That was Amazing love me some Burl Ives and Johnny Cash.
Burl Ives and Jim Reeves were my fathers favorite singers
Great music incredible song can understand every word he sings.
Most of these songs I've never heard. Thank you for uploading the pieces from Johnny's show. I never was able to watch it either. It wasn't broadcast in our area. These are great.
These words are so true of the great artists who are we lost but not forgotten.
Johnny Cash was one of my favourites also,
Legends that will never be replaced
Never with this flowersticks today they called `stars`.
Hi Asher,
I am just replying because my surname is Burleigh.
My ancestors came from Britain to New Zealand in the 1800s.
They were Burley's but later learned that the correct spelling was Burleigh. These are unusual surnames in New Zealand.
I have seen more Burleys in Australia.
It is good seeing your name, Bro.
@@barbsmart7373 Hey 👋🏻
Always nice to meet a fellow Burley ! The name does originate from the southern area of the UK and even has its own coat of arms which has three wild boars.
I believe it originates from Saxon although it has changed both spellings and pronunciation over the years.
Its not even that common of a surname here so I can imagine it must be even rarer where you are ... I guess through one family tree or another we are distantly related too ! Thanks for reaching out! 😎😃
@@Ashbash75
Kia ora from New Zealand.
It is great that you have replied!
I was in bed but now I have been up to find my 1784-1984 Burleigh book about our descendants put together by my father's cousin.
An American Burleigh thought our descendants moved from the south of England about 1500 possibly from Exeter region.
It is thought the family were devout protestants, so it may be why the moved to Scotland, to Lesmahagow.
A Robert Burley left Lesmahagow around 1874, aged 18.
A number of his aunts, uncles and cousins left around then also and some went to USA snd Canada. About 20 or more Burleys stayed there in Lesmahagow.
What do you know about your people, and where are you, Brother?
@@barbsmart7373 That's very interesting to hear that your Father's cousin did his own family research. I did know that Burley's moved to Scotland and in fact one of their descendants is a George Burley who used to play and then later manage Ipswich Town football club here in the UK and with pretty good success too !
I also know that Queen Elizabeth 1st Treasurer was Lord Burleigh.
Another interesting fact is that Burley tobacco is one of the leading varieties globally.
The name itself roughly translates into "coming from a hilly fort or enclosure surrounded by trees".
My own family come from the South East of England but I know my great grandfather was born and raised in Sussex so that would account for the South of England origins.
A huge tear, at your departure , GOD BLESS YOU SIR BURL We love you ... Hollywierd, posing , pedestals for the worshipped no thanks .... YOUR HEART is on your sleeve, and your acting ability is phenominal ...... Genuine GOD LOVING BURL .....
We were such a great country with so much Talent!
Two of the very best talents sharing the stage. This would have been a dream come true to see them live. Epic!
It's amazing to see Johnny Cash doing a medley with the great Burl Ives aka Big Daddy from Cat in a Hot Tin Roof
Two very special people to Me.❤
Johnny Cash was quite handsome before he became so devastatingly ill. Burl Ives contracted oral cancer, probably from smoking cigars or a pipe. Both were among my favorite folk/country singers, and I still have their vinyls, today.
Interesting duet.
I'm a big Burl fan.
I always think of "the ugly bug ball" love it.
I love this. God bless you both. May you RIP.. see you two n Heaven ❤️🙏
Finest songs
Just a brilliant duo!
Great performances of two giants.
This past good Friday my friend & I visited Burls grave may he rest in peace my brother look well to the east
Love love love this!!! Thanks for the upload. I know I'm years late. But so glad I stumbled upon this gem 💎 🙌 ✨️
So am I.
My Great uncle's favorite. A Little Bitty Tear !
So beautiful.
I told my husband that I thought Johnny Cash covered every Burl Ives song then I found this ❤️️
He covered a lot of Burl Ives' songs
I first heard Burl Ives on a Canadian radio station around 1951 or so. Froggy went a courtin... other stuff that we didn't hear otherwise.
Burl Ives oscar for The Big Cowntry. Greatest performance.
Also great performance as Big Daddy in Cat on a hot thin roof.
I have loved his tone going on 70 years,
two great singers
Woh what a song what words brilliant.
Burl Ives was great making movie Characters very believable.
Indubitably ! Not only one of our greatest folksingers but also one truly gifted actor !!
I loved him in Rudolph the Red noise reindeer as the Snowman. My favorite song Its a Holly Jolly Christmas 🎄 ❤

People were so innocent then.

Great
Goober peas. 👍
GREAT.
ESCARGENCY 😢❤
Burrel ives was from Nuton I’ll and I met Johnie Cash in the country near Decatur’s Il
This is my sisters name and its probably the best I have ever heard❤
If you know Errol Flynn ( Robin Hood) , well Burl Ives was the same age , didnt look like a women's dreamboat, but HE LIVED LONGER , HAD A GREAT CAREER, AND MADE MORE MONEY .
I did like the way that Burl Ives portrayed Big Daddy in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof .
Burl Ive's died before he could ever met all his Cousins. If you have an Ive's in your bloodline, better trace it. I'm 8th cousin to him.
