Learn how to shoot a timelapse: In this "how to" video we'll tell you everything you should know when taking a timelapse. There are two different techniques. The first way is simple, recording video. The other technique is the professional way: Taking photos. In post you put every frame after another to generate a film sequence.

We did the movement in post (After Effects) but yes, it's possible to create movement with motorized heads!

Depends on the exposure time and the interval. But yes, it takes a few hours to make a timelapse film.
When we shot "Frankfurt at Night" it was 1 °F (-17 °C) cold in most nights!

Hey man cool video, I have one question, I wanted to start my own time lapse library for use in later videos. I am curious about what is the best way or format to store the time lapses. Storing thousands of hi res images is probably the best for creative control later on when you are actually making the video, but my storage space is limited. do you recommend using premiere to create a video file? if so what are the best sequence and export settings so the file is less heavy, keeps its quality and keeps enough resolution so that i can crop it or work on it later to be re exported as part of a video? Thanks

I never really thought to do that. I guess it helps blend each shot together huh?
I don't know about the higher end cameras (yet), but the 550D has a continuous timer that maxes out at 10.
How many shots do you typically use per scene?

Ich denke das die DSLRs im mittleren Preissegment (Canon 60D, 7D oder Nikon D7000) für eine hohe Belastung ausgelegt sind. Wir hatten bisher keine Aussetzer oder Probleme mit den Kameras...

Because pictures are much larger than 1920x1080 you can add zoom and add motion in post. Take After Effects or Adobe Premiere for example.

Hi HaiNam, when you say "shoot raw", I wonder if that would also mean you go in and edit every picture afterwards, I mean unedited raw pics don't really look nice. But for a timelapse that seems kind of a lot of work right? Please elaborate.

were these time lapses taken on a dolly or is the image being moved in post production (ie ken burns effect)? you mentioned that if you take high res photos, you can zoom in.. are you using this to create the moving effect?

well once u shoot the photos, u have to convert them to video, isnt it?? to do that u use a video editor, or after effects or even quicktime. and then u can start playing with adding some motion or other stuff

If you import lost of images that are numbered, after effect automatically sequences them so you only get one file that can be dragged onto the timeline.
