If it's so "authentic", why is Elizabeth getting married in a red and black dress when the real Elizabeth of York got married in a blue dress, as was traditional among aristocracy during the time period?
Blue was common but wasn’t the only color women wore. It was a sartorial choice made by costuming, directors and producers (and one her daughter did make when she was pissed off about having. To marry The Scottish King James IV-Elizabeth of York wasn’t happy about it either. She couldn’t stop the wedding, but she did use her influence to stop the consummation until her daughter was 18. It may very well have been her idea for Margaret to wear red) it was a nod to Margaret (who, at the time of this filming we didn’t know if we would see her story or or not yet. You do in Spanish Princess-that and Margaret Pole’s story-she was my 18th Great Grandmother- is the only one that rings even a little bit true true in that series [The Spanish Princess] though. The rest is horrific).
I know I'm a little late to the party on this one but I'm a little confused about Jacobs (Henrys) comment on the colour of the dress. Red is the colour of Lancaster right? So surely wearing a read dress is more of a compliment and a symbol of her joining his house? Rather than an insult? And black was a really expensive so popular with wealthy people. If she really wanted to insult him she should have worn white, the colour of York. Henry even says in the first episode 'forbid it to snow I don't want to see any white' or something along those lines.
Red's also the colour the fertility for women. In other countries at least, girls would have ribbons in their hair that they would change, from white to red, when they first bled. Then perhaps change to black or cover their hair once they were married. For men, red was more associated with vigour and the blood of war.
If it was the 14th century that would mean this took place in the 1300s, but this show takes place between 1485-1499 so its the end of the 15th century.
@@timmystan0170 I totally forgot about this comment, I recently just learned this since my mum is a history teacher but thanks so much for educating me so nicely and respectfully x
I was looking forward to this. Very disappointing. I hope they continue season 2 and wrap up the white princess the book and transition into the story of king Henry the VIII
Jodie andJacob are well suited for the role, they are brilliant as Henry and Lizzie and I love them together.

Hi! Where can I find the information you give in this comment?
Elizabeth of York's daughter Margaret married in red
Blue was common but wasn’t the only color women wore. It was a sartorial choice made by costuming, directors and producers (and one her daughter did make when she was pissed off about having. No...it's a plot point that she wears a whorish dress to the wedding. That amount of cleavage is also quite unrealistic.
Red's also the colour the fertility for women. In other countries at least, girls would have ribbons in their hair that they would change, from white to red, when they first bled. Then perhaps change to black or cover their hair once they were married.

Elizabeth’s wedding dress was ether purple blue or brown because those where the 3 possible dresses her wardrobe records from the year she wed
1:17 None of these costumes felt "authentic", thank you very much.
Agreed
I love the series or movies with the history on the past, the dressed and learn the kind and way of the people live. Thank you,
1:22 even though it might be insulting, but he can still see her beauty
Victoria Kelly well yeah, he can see her face lol
Please make a season 2!!
There's no season 2, just watch the Tudors next and it'll be like season 2
1:20
Red is the color of what?? I rewound it 10 times and I still can’t understand/hear how he described what is the meaning of red was
Color of whores is what i’ve heard 😅
You must be an American or a foreign national. He clearly said "Red is the colour of who res(women from brothels)in the period"
thank You for uplode
Why are people always whispering in historical dramas?
It probably did look like that back then - regal, but understated.
It didn't remotely look like that
Love both the white queen and the white Princess and Look for to see the spanish princess ❤❤❤
Wann gibt es die Serie endlich auf Deutsch?
Thank you for the video. What did red represent?
The color of whores apparently
Oh my. Thank you. Lizzie certainly knew how to dress!
Laura Montague You're welcome
I heard it represented martyrdom, as well.
I thought he said "wars"?
Was this even aired in the UK?
assistir os 4 EP em um dia. muito boa
What a load of bollocks. This show didn't even attempt to make these costumes look authentic at all.
BIG DEAL
At least it was closer to accurate than Reign.
Except the costumes in this show are as inaccurate as everything else in this show.
You were NOT there, so wouldn't know !
@@VCYT that's a poor excuse
Better the Reign though, am i right?
@@kristinaw3185 NOTHING is worse than Reign costumes, they just used some prom dresses in that.. so lazy
@@eduardaschneidertz And apparently it was intentional.. to create a period drama with contemporary costumes. Sorry but.. yuck.
Dude this isn’t the 15th century it’s the 14th century

Amanda Dixon The Tudors covers that :) And it's like 4 seasons long, go look it up and enjoy!
Michelle was such a bad casting choice for Margret I could not stand it.
Lmao, why?
I agree. I prefer the actress who played her in the White Queen.
I really hate how Gregory portrays Margaret Beaufort because she was nothing like that in real life.
Mariages were always political back then.
