I think that when Elizabeth said the word “queen Catherine” she probably meant queen COA and Mary looked a bit happy that she referred to her mother as a queen.
It was definitely in reference to Catherine Howard and that little smirk was because Mary was delighted that Howard got what she deserved (in Mary’s mind, that is)
She was referring to Catherine Howard. From what I picked up on from a few video essays and documentaries; When Elizabeth saw Catherine Howard being dragged away while crying and begging to talk to Henry during her arrest she deiced that she shall never be put in the same place. Along with other horrid ways her father treated woman in her life solidified that decision
I love the Tudors so much! I especially found Sarah Bolgers Mary in The Tudors played absolutely convincingly. And now you've given me Game of Thrones vibes on top of that! 💙
I've always wondered what kind of people they were really. What did they think of each-other personally, not as a Queen and her sister but as women whose mothers both suffered at the hand of their father. If I was in Mary's position, I would have probably hated Elizabeth too when she was born because she basically took Mary's place. But I think after her mother was executed, I would have felt sorry for Elizabeth and I would have taken her under my wing, considering that she would now have no one to take care of her interest.
I think I have yet to find a story that focuses exclusively on the relationship between Mary and Elizabeth in true detail and complexity. They were allies in that they were both cast aside daughters fighting in a world of men; but rivals because of their religion and mother’s. Storyline is ten times more interesting that Mary of Scots debacle.
Well Becoming Elizabeth although has problems with Catherine Parr, is a very in-depth portrayal of the Tudor siblings relationships with each other. Mary in that one is portrayed fairly as person with both good and bad qualities.
I have to be honest, I could never warm up to a half-sibling whose mother overthrew my own. Mary showed a lot of character and compassion toward Elizabeth, and the two only became confrontational after the death of their brother, which now inevitably set them up as political rivals. Personality wise, Elizabeth was far more cold and calculating than Mary. She would never have given Lady Jane Grey and her family the second chance that Mary did, and in the end, she executed far more people than did Mary.
A child should not be held responsible for a parent/another adult's actions. That's just petty. Also we can tell nothing happened without Henry's permission. No woman can deny his affections unless they'd risk their life and their families. Anne Boleyn just reciprocated it and why shouldn't she? All women were victims once he focused on them (including his daughters). Not all of them were gems but they were people in power, so it's expected they'll use it.
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 Elizabeth presided over the deaths of over 4,000 Catholics, many of them innocent Irish peasants rising up against English rule. She gets a pass because she was a Protestant in a Protestant country, because the Spanish Armada literally defeated itself, and because she had an army of writers (including Shakespeare) on her patronage payroll who glorified her in one of the biggest propaganda campaigns ever waged.
Mary I was not as bad as some historians made her out to be. Both Mary and Elizabeth experienced so much personal trauma it's amazing that they each made it to adulthood.
I really wish that they had continued this series it would have been great to see it Go from the tutors all the way up to the end of the end of the Stuart Royals....
Elizabeth was a brilliant woman but she only just managed to survive and become queen. Bishop Gardiner had her death warrant all written up and ready to go . According to the history book I read . ( Young Elizabeth) . Fortunately the executioner refused as it didn't have Mary's signature and seal on it . But Gardiner said as the queen was so sick he was in charge. Luckily the executioner still refused .
I personally think as Mary warned her sister about what she could and would do I'd she failed her. Elizabeth was smart enough to know it. If that s called sisterly live back then then yes there was a thin love for each other distant as they were. But Elizabeth surly got the message
Just to clear things up, we can be neither team Elizabeth or Mary. Sure you can prefer one (for example I prefer Mary) but we don’t need to start any debates over this. They both dealt with horrible things from Henry and from each other. For example, Mary had to deal with being replaced by Elizabeth while Elizabeth wasn’t even allowed to mention her mother (Mary was allowed to talk about her mother and even snuck a letter to her mother through the Spanish ambassador) without getting in trouble. They both did bad things too, Elizabeth’s ratio of years of reign to kill rate is much higher (1:1014.222…)while Mary’s is lower (1:56). On the other hand Mary imprisoned her sister and almost had her executed. Overall there is no need to compare them as they were just as manipulative and as kind as each other.
Mary's and Elizabeth's lives cannot be compared to which one was worse because their father Henry viii was a complicated man for whom the most important thing is a male heir and that his own will was also the word of God. their mothers were also compared to each other because Catherine had previously been married to Henry's brother and Annie was the king's so-called mistress
*sorry but another point Elizabeth was also affected because she lost her mother aged 2. He impulsive behaviour made her sign mary queen of scots death warrant though she was leaving her son behind.
Elisabeth had a harder childhood I think,She Lost her mother at 3 and was isolated from the court, her aunt (Catherine Howard) was beheaded as well and she had a strong bond with her. She said she never forgot her screams and during her reign she was used to have nightmares everynight. We was sexually abused at the age of 13 by a man who was 25 years older than her and that was supposed to protect her. She risked dying during her brother's reign, but during her sister reign she risked a lot more and was imprisoned. Then during her 45 years reign she had to face several plots created to kill her by the catholics and her cousin. She was a true survivor and a woman who didn't want to be treated like property so she never married ,an example for girls.
If Cate Blanchett and Joanne Whalley would had been on the same movie as Elizabeth and Mary definetly would be "The Tudor Sisters" because if one would had been the protagonist, the other one would had outshine for sure lol. Edit: Not saying that the other actors didn't made an outstanding job tho. They were amazing 100% on their papers too. But I would had love to see a movie with both of them.
Mary and Elizabeth thought they were enemies but actually, they were two girls who had both lost their mother, right to the throne and the love of their father when they were young, they had each other,i was glad that in the tudors they showed that Elizabeth and Mary had a good relationship than to portay them as enemies.
The mistake Mary made was blame Elizabeth for something she had no control over. Elizabeth did not ask for any y of it to happen the way it did, any more than Mary did. Mary took her anger out on the wrong person.

No wonder Mary became more cruel then Elizabeth, since Henry never loved Mary and showed more love towards Elizabeth and Edward, and just casted her aside, abondand her anne bolyen and Katherine Howard never showed love to her Katherine Howard was younger than her blackmailed by her father tonmarry her, her father sent away her one and only love. But she did love her sister Elizabeth as she knows she been through the similar trail, Henry just loved Anne bolyen and Jane seymour. So you see that s why Mary turned evil that she had been much worser trauma than elizabeth
Mary hated Anne because everybody knew and was a whore who essentially used the Kings insecurity about not being able to have a son with the first Catherine, Mary's mother, and promised him a son in exchange for him being disowned by the church and marrying her to make her a queen. When Anne could not bear any child other than elizabeth, Mary saw this as an opportunity to use Elizabeth as a bargaining chip. She made sure that Anne was sought out as an evil harlot and a witch so Elizabeth would be seen as a bastard as well, suffering the same horrible fate and making sure that she would have the equal treatment and trauma as young Mary did because Mary did not want Elizabeth to be happy. She hated Edward because Edward was the only male heir to the throne, and despite being the youngest, he would be the only one to be able to surpass her and become king. She only played the role of the good daughter to stay and Henry's good enough graces because she was originally exiled with her mother. From a young age, Mary hated all of her half siblings and her father's other lovers. She planned to take the throne for herself, and her eyes, as a product of all her trauma, she was going to write all the wrongs her father did while he was thinking with his dick and his ego while blowing up at the slightest provocation. And Mary's eyes, she was returning the country back to its original pure state. The way things should have been, before her father ruined everything to be with Elizabeth's mother. And when they grew older and Elizabeth posed as a threat to her, she did anything in her power to make sure that Elizabeth was seen as a bastard, evil, and undesirable. She wanted her sister to know that she was never going to be first pick and that she was never supposed to be alive. Mary did anything to try and ruin Elizabeth to secure the throne for herself. But she ended up screwing herself over in the end, and when Elizabeth came to rule, Mary the Queen of Scots, was put to death.
@@yay29823actually he cared for elizabeth more, especially after marrying anne. after anne was beheaded, he did not care for either of them that much - so there was not a "least favorite" daughter. they were both declared illegitimate for a reason, they were both reminders of his first 2 wives he did not care for anymore. he was so dedicated to trying to conceive a son, he probably forgot about mary and elizabeth a lot. then after edward was born, that is the only child he loved and cared for. it's literally that simple.
all I've got to say is even though Mary and Elizabeth may have had a good relationship while they were both still alive, Elizabeth did not listen to all of Mary's will. She didn't rule the country as a Catholic like Mary asked, which I sort of understand bc if the reformation had never happened Elizabeth would not exist, but it's the fact that she didn't listen to Mary's wish to be buried with her mother which I think is disgraceful. Yes Mary wanted to move Catherine from Peterborough to somewhere more suitable which Mary never got to do but the fact Elizabeth is buried ontop of Mary is terrible as their is a perfectly good place in Peterborough where Mary would be next to her mother.

@@jasperhadlied6812 constant harrasment is a form of sa especially at that time seeing as her chastity was now considered ruined due to Henry's persistent chasing.her parents did everything to stop the marriage but then Anne lost hope that she henry would stop chasing her.
It was all her father's fault of how she ended up like she did from abuse. What she did was wrong for killing so many people. But Henry in a cruel twisted way my late Grandmother had a Brain injury from a car accident and was a different person after the accident like Henry except less violent and murdery type. Us grandkids only knew her after the accident since we weren't even born yet when it happened.
Mary wanted children of her own but she couldn't marry. She could at least look after her child siblings
I think that when Elizabeth said the word “queen Catherine” she probably meant queen COA and Mary looked a bit happy that she referred to her mother as a queen.
She meant queen Catherine Howard, who had just been excuted under Henry's orders.
She could have meant both
It was definitely in reference to Catherine Howard and that little smirk was because Mary was delighted that Howard got what she deserved (in Mary’s mind, that is)
She was referring to Catherine Howard. From what I picked up on from a few video essays and documentaries; When Elizabeth saw Catherine Howard being dragged away while crying and begging to talk to Henry during her arrest she deiced that she shall never be put in the same place. Along with other horrid ways her father treated woman in her life solidified that decision
Idk She wasn't born when COA was queen. I think she means Howard
I love the Tudors so much! I especially found Sarah Bolgers Mary in The Tudors played absolutely convincingly. And now you've given me Game of Thrones vibes on top of that! 💙
Sarah Bolgers made me feel sorry for Mary, this show really showed me how they were all just so human like we are!
Henry always wants a son . But he never understood that his two daughters had the power of thousand sons and hundred kings.
5:14 Mary should've realized that it was never elizabeth's fault that her mother took the next place as queen, she was just the product of it all.
pretty sure she said it only cause she was angry and because their relationship was becoming rocky, but she never really feel it
I've always wondered what kind of people they were really.
Mary was just as cold and calculating and manipulative as Elizabeth was. She also murdered people. She earned the name of Bloody Mary.
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 Philip of spain used her like A puppet to go to war with france; overall, he didn't care for her.
But how is that Elizabeth’s fault?!
7:10: Don't worry my sister, I will evenge you, our mothers, our stepmothers, and our brother by taking our father's bloodline to my grave 👑 👊
Okay, these two and my fav piece of music in GOT = perfect!
Mary I was not as bad as some historians made her out to be. Both Mary and Elizabeth experienced so much personal trauma it's amazing that they each made it to adulthood.
Bloody Mary ?
I really wish that they had continued this series it would have been great to see it Go from the tutors all the way up to the end of the end of the Stuart Royals....
I agree. That would be pretty interesting
Hail Queen Elizabeth! Longest reigning heir of her father King Henry VIII.
She was the golden heir he wanted but never knew he had.
I really love mary and elizabeth's relationship here❤
I personally think as Mary warned her sister about what she could and would do I'd she failed her.
@Dreamfyre Según se María trato de velar por si salud y por su causa cuando está todavía era pequeña
it's amazing what all these women achieved. You don't know how much inspires me
OMG!!! This pretty video makes me cry🥺😭❤️ I love it so much!!!
Funny, England didnt want Anne but wanted her daughter
Vice versa: England loved Catherine but hated Mary
Well I respect Elizabeth I but as an Indian I actually hate people of England 🇬🇧
Mary I could not see her mother after the divorce. Her life was miserable from then. From marrying her nephew who did not love to her false pregnancy.
Waooo light of the seven!!! You can say everything about these two, but they became Queens (and Mary became Vanozza of Catanei too😂). Good work (congratulations👏) but sory, i don't like the credit words in some scenes. Kisses🌹✨ from Spain 🇪🇦
Thank you! May I ask what credit words?

Elizabeth only just got to be queen. Bishop Gardiner signed Elizabeth's death warrant as Mary was too sick by that stage to know what was happening . The Brave executioner refused to go ahead because it wasn't formally signed by Mary.

Have always liked Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson. Elizabeth tried for 19 years not to execute Mary Stuart, but she would meddle in assassination plots!
Love that they used the music Queen Margaery died to in GOT (Natalie Dormer) for Anne’s death
Every account I have read reports Mary was compassionate to Elizabeth while Elizabeth was growing up. Elizabeth whole heartedly supported Mary in gaining her thronr
Remember. They truly believed their very souls rested on each of their faiths. Elizabeth made no\ effoorts to trash Mary after she survived her. Not with the playrightd she patrionized. Nothing.
Please father I beg you do not leave me an orphan so soon 😭 I really choked up at this.
Light of the Seven works well with these clips. Such a beautiful song

This is so amazing 😍🥰♥️
Incredible! Although I have seen all these films, this is somehow far more enjoyable & exquisite. Movies can become tedious, but these clips, brought together as you have done, seem much more riveting & intriguing. If you have not done so already, you should be making film trailers professionally. Thank you so much for this beautiful artwork. Do not think that just because these films were made beforehand, that you do not deserve as much credit for your inspiration & creativity - all artists manipulate previously heretofore produced works to create their masterpieces...
And likewise, so have you.
*blushes like a tomato* I wouldn't say I did that much but thank you for your compliments nonetheless.
I hope that both sisters are in the heavens, after the horror that their horried father put them through, perhaps they are also with their respective mothers now.
Beautifully done !
Perfection. ❤️
I feel sorry for both of them but in the end, Elizabeth was wise not to marry at all. Shame though she committed adultery like her parents…
2:54 when she said these words, It was a Declaration for the downfall of the tutor dynasty. It’s like Elizabeth was saying, He treated his wives and my mother like cattle, And for that, I’m going to ruin father’s whole career, especially his whole dynasty! Talk about poetic justice.
I hope they reunited and reconciled in heaven.
It's Henry's fault is why the children turned out that way from abuse. The crown is something nobody's want but they have responsibilities to achieve.
All died with no children
Mary at least tried, but her mistake was marrying a man who already had a son

Faltó la versión de GLENDA JACKSON de 1971.
Elizabeth was the least favorite, Henry wasn't that cruel to her
@@yay29823actually he cared for elizabeth more, especially after marrying anne. after anne was beheaded, he did not care for either of them that much - so there was not a "least favorite" daughter. they were both declared illegitimate for a reason, they were both reminders of his first 2 wives he did not care for anymore. he was so dedicated to trying to conceive a son, he probably forgot about mary and elizabeth a lot. then after edward was born, that is the only child he loved and cared for. it's literally that simple.
@@lei9465 There is an website that talks about Anne Boleyn and Mary's relationship, but i don't trust that anymore

Бедные дети, такого натерпелись... Врагу не пожелаю...
all I've got to say is even though Mary and Elizabeth may have had a good relationship while they were both still alive, Elizabeth did not listen to all of Mary's will.
