Dean guitars pretty much owe their second run to this man. They would still be out of business if Dime hadn't put them on the map and brought in tons of other artists and fans.
Exactly! He was a genuinely good person. A lot of heart. People should recognize the difference so they can be more appreciative, should they have such a person in their life...
@@chaplaincadet I met Darrell in 1984 and he gave me a few guitar lessons. We got drunk together and had a BBQ at my sister`s house in early 1984. He woke me up one morning hollering "GET UP GET UP GET DOWN" with a joint in each hand. My sister married his cousin and that`s how I met him. Saw them play live in Dallas in 1985. He was the perfect example of the Dallas Texas vibe back then. Everybody was fun and just like him there in the 80s.
He came to Rock..... And Rocked like no other With a heart twice the size of Texas our beloved brother, companion, mentor idol and friend.... We love you Dime.... Until we meet again There are no words that describe how much your missed! RIP Dime!
So true. Dime was one of my biggest musical heroes. The night he died I was at a gig. I found out about it right before we started playing. At that time I was playing saxophone in a jazz group. I made an announcement that I was dedicating my performance to my hero DIMEBAG and you could have heard a pin drop. I didn't give a fuck. My only hope was that he was looking down with his Black Tooth Grin as I paid my musical tribute to the man who changed my,life!
As I type this, he's been gone for nearly 17 years. It still stings, knowing how much of an amazing human he was. Growing up listening to his music, and watching the interviews, meeting him at shows, watching the home videos, we all felt like we knew him personally. He had that kind of influence on all of us. The world is much colder without his light. As I type this through tears I know he'd probably punch me in the shoulder and tell me take a shot. "Drink it, or wear it!"
That’s a problem in a way, Dean ML’s are so heavily associated with Dime that it’s very hard to make the guitar feel original and unique to yourself. That sucks because it’s one of the coolest looking guitars out there
I started playing guitar cause of this guy right here. 16 years later I’m still playing with a DFH and dime slime. Long live dime, we love and miss you Dime 🤟🏼
This is just a rough reminder of what a cool down to earth guy, Dime was! He was never too good to hang out and talk to people just because they were interested in what he wanted to say. I to like many others here, still don't understand what the hell, why some fuck would kill this wonderful person? Just thinking of it makes my head and heart ache! I miss him, and Pantera so much! But, at least we have the music magic he gave us before it happened. I will always love you Dime!
@@slaughtered777 That dude was mentally ill. Bro. This brings tears. Every sport or career you have the greatest of all time in whatever field. This man brought magic to all of us metal fans. This shit is life. I regret selling my Dean guitar.
if you would have met the idol, he'd have treated you like you'd been friends for years. that's how he made me feel. i partied with him quite a bit during the end of pantera/start of damageplan. to say i was fortunate is the biggest understatement ever. he let me hear the damageplan cd BEFORE it had vocals mixed on it. we played air guitar to it in vinnie's livingroom. enough bragging. he was great, you would have loved him from the start.
I got my first Dean about a year ago, and it's a Dime Razorback with a darker finish of the lightning pattern on the Dean from Hell, and, like Dimebag, I've always loved Dean guitars, probably just because the greatest heavy metal guitar player on God's green Earth played them. R.I.P. Dimebag Darrell!

Seen "Pantera" here in Hawai'i in '92..they were great..never realized that I was witnessing a pioneer at work? I just thought he was a really good lead guitarist..not a pioneer virtuoso? Just glad to have been there!! RIP Dime..
I've seen them 3 times, but I was born and raised just a few miles from their Arlington/Pantego based recording studios and party compound, so they were a local band to me at first. I saw them in '91 at barely 14 years old, and like you didnt appreciate what I was witnessing..at that time it was my second live show ever, and first true metal so I assumed all metal guitarists were as good as Dime live, and frontmen as powerful as Phil. (back then at least) Countless live shows in various rock genres over the years have taught me how very wrong I was...nobody can play live with Dimes intensity yet remain so on point to the studio version..nobody, but there are a few who can come close. Rest assured I appreciated Pantera as much more than a "local band" by the time I hit my late teens/early 20's, and then it was all over way too soon. RIP Dime and Vinny 🤘

As soon as I heard about Dean's DBZ guitars after he left Dean, I had my heart set on one of his V's. Paid it off, bit by bit. When I finally got it, the store owner, my main man, Matt Crump made a phone call and got Dean to sign the back of the headstock. Did a few shows, had an injury that turned into opioid addiction... Sold it to stave off dope sickness. 5 years clean and it goes down as possibly the best thing addiction took from me. But I'm still alive and the family is still with me. Big pharma, kids. Don't trust it. Don't do it.
Sorry to hear that, but I can definitely relate. I was on heroin for four years, and I never stole, but I sure did pawn a lot of my own shit I never got back. I had an American Strat I'll never get back
