This Fungus Is Spreading Rapidly in Hospitals

- Cases of Candida auris are increasing every year.
Most fungi can’t grow and reproduce in the human body because it’s too warm. But experts say they’re evolving.

Sounds a lot like an instant replay of MRSA a few years ago.
YEAST INFECTIONS
Except MRSA doesn’t have spores and the potential to spread through air. We maybe in serious trouble.
@@tesoro7788 I lost two very good friends to MRSA related pneumonia. It can be airborne.
I recently scraped my fingers against an old weathered board in the garden. The edges of two fingers were left with a fine matrix of tiny slivers. I was worried about bacterial infection and treated it as such. Instead, I got the most difficult fungal infection I have ever experienced. Going on two months now, I had tried every OTC antifungal at the pharmacy. Tolnaftate seemed to be slowing the spread and scrubbing the infected area with hydrogen peroxide seemed to help though the infection still spread to my other hand, in particular finding places to root at the knuckles. I found butenafine hydrochloride, which was incrementally better than the tolnaftate. Still, by the time I was my appointment to see a nurse practitioner arrived, it still wasn't clearly under control or in remission. No I have a tube of Clotrimazole and Betamethasone. It has been about a week. The open wounds on various knuckles have mostly healed. My understanding is that fungi are particularly difficult because they are eukaryotes, the same cellular structure that the human body is comprised of. The upside is that my new white gloves are very stylish.
May I suggest checking with someone who’s a dr?
@@anne-marieriamitchell1140he said that he did already
You had me at "we want healthcare facilities to stay motivated" ... lol...
My wife had a systemic fungal infection and it was bad. She recovered but she had to take anti fungal medication for 2 years.
What were her symptoms? And what treatments worked?
Aren't anti fungal meds pretty expensive? For two years?? She had that growing in her body or at least spores were present or something l guess, good grief, nice to hear she's over it at least.
The acute phase of the infection was managed at hospital so I'm not sure what medicine is used.. Following that the treatment was monthly to prevent a recurrence.. She was prescribed a typical Medication for yeast infection. She has typed one diabetes so that accounts for the long prophylaxis.
fungi is life... the first stage. Also, the biggest and oldest thing om earth they claim (below oregon topsoil)
Ha Ha! Oh boy, one more thing to worry about. Thanks NOVA.=)
What music is used in this video? It’s actually pretty good 😂
What happens if you introduce copper to the agar?
If copper inhibits growth, perhaps we should FINALLY replace all the stainless steel in hospitals with copper plated metal.
Yeah catheters with copper in them…. I’ve seen the use silver in wound care.
Copper patinas to turquiose when exposed to salt water so I don't think it will mix well with saline solutions. The patina can also rust or oxidize off and fall. Imagine that in a bloodstream 😬.
Yes, adding a little heavy metal toxicity into the problem always helps!
/s
stainless is cleanable with 70% (not 91, ask any labtech why) plus a quick UVC flash, you are cleaner than clean
Awesome, can't wait.
I don't have this strain of fungi, where can I find it?
I was gonna laugh with a little nervous sweating-smile emoji, but I see by your username that it's likely a serious request. As a chemo patient, that's somehow more like a scared, turning blue emoji. I'm emoji-conflicted.

Have you noticed how nasty most medical rooms are.?? Much less their rest rooms...Hospitals janitors are barely visible and underpaid at best... 😕😨
I don't know where you live but the hospitals here are spotless
uvc robots... literally are made and clean bacteria far faster.. already automated in city hospitals as people leave, the robot goes in and uses UVC
And the plot thickens
😂
It's already a ticc boi.
Well, I guess it's time to cancel my hospital staycation plans. I was really looking forward to catching up on my reading and trying out the hospital food, but I don't think I want to risk getting infected by this fungus. Thanks for the heads up.
Don’t be silly you will be fine x
Conflict of "interest"?
If its capable of mutating, what's to say it can't turn is into zombies?
Scientists cannot overpower the layman's fears.
I'm much more concerned with what it does now fungus infection inside you is no fucking joke. If it goes airborne which I'm really hoping hasn't already happened.
So not cordyceps
Why not call it a yeast?

So... What you're saying is that there's Fungus Amungus!!!
My mom is in a nursing home, and her room mates keep dying. It seems like there should be a punchline to this story, but Mom isn't as dastardly as this might suggest. I'm genuinely worried.
When you first notice?
I don't even like eating mushrooms but apparently they have no qualms about nibbling on me a little.
There are two types of mushroom producing mycelia that interact with live organisms- the ones that benefit the organism (trees for example) or the ones that attack the organism like a parasite. Musroom producing mycelia can be very beneficial to humans, like the ones that break down dead organic material and produce edible mushrooms.
Scientists are working on new ways to use fungi for humanity. There are many types of edible mushrooms to try.
@@mikejensen4238 I have been a big fan of Dr. G for years! He recommends only cooked mushrooms. I forget what he said is the danger of raw mushrooms. I eat mushrooms almost every day.
@@mikejensen4238 I sure didn't report them to UA-cam. I have been in debates with trolls who do that and my replies disappear. Fungi are like cockroaches. Tough as frick but really creepy.

This is terrifying. The possibilities. Along with everything else secondary to climate change. It's overwhelming.
organize the working class. there is no other way. less production is needed and degrowth as well. that means we have to abolith the profit motive as under it corporations needs to grow all the time. we need to take the means of production, organize labour around needs.
Humans are evolving too. I know lots of people think we're not evolving anymore, but silently, slowly, we're gradually adapting too. The fittest among us will pass on our genes to the next gen, blah, blah, evolution. Fungi are smart in a different way than humans, so let's see which intelligent species continues to dominate the playing field. My absurdist levels have reached OVER 9,000 since starting chemo at the same time covid was becoming news.
So what's new?
It's going to get worth, before it gets better!

Climate change gives organisms more chance for adaptation to different conditions…then mutations survive and finds places to live that are new.
We all have fungi and bacteria and viruses around us just waiting for opportunities to enter our bodies. We breath in the microscopic spores. It’s not about whipping you butt or washing your hands. Look up Valley Fever
Climate Change Braim Fungus. CCBF. 🤣
Just use UV-C light to kill off the fungi. Its that simple
California's ignoring of disease control problems came to light during the pandemic. Temporarily got better but now, people are back to negligence. Oversight is gone again.
