People, take your country back. People that are involved in these mines live for today with no vision of the future. Those that make money from this most likely move on to other places after their destruction. Once they have sufficient in their pocket they most likely move to other countries.
I totally agree with you and that's why the current government needs to sit down. We are ok now. We appreciate all they did but it's time for visionary leadership.
@@mbalenhlebuthelezi3198The department of energy and mining are custodians of mining rights... So the provincial department of mining and energy (provincial government) and not the municipality would be in charge
They should pay the rehabilitation fees up front. There is new Coal mining technology available that does not use water. It's call Air Plants. It separates coal density by Air. If they go the water route. Filter press plants need to installed that will clean the water to be reused. Then the water demand becomes much lower.

Mining has a life span of approx 20 years - Agri farming can span hundreds of years - let that sink in ..for all you naysayers out there !…and cry my beloved country
Look at how areas such as Witbank, Middelburg and Oogies looks like with all the coal mine activities... It looks absolutely terrible with so much distruction of the land and the environment... it looks like the 1st WW... The saddest is that I do not see the money going back into the country and towards the people with regards to infrastructure and environmental upliftment...

So the old saying is true also for South Africa; "Don't bring coal to Newcastle". The Newcastle here refers to Newcastle, a coal-mining town in England meaning "Don't bring something superfluous here".
The government is not upholding any form of justice, and when I say justice I mean it's founding principle of truth, honesty & fairness. Greed flourish in the absence of justice. Lack of justice incites destruction, which spreads across the spectrum.
And yet they trying to teach people in shacks to plant vegetables; or has that project died since the imboozos and manifeastos have taken to the roads, just another photo shoot? Who was fed from that small investment?
Can we have the view from the mining people. We only have a view of the environmentalist and the Carte Blanche team. Let us have a balanced story to make our conclusion. It is not fair to have one view. Besides we cannot use one area to paint a picture that mining is irresponsible. Witbank exists because of mining. Johannesburg exists because of mining. The list goes on. So it is unfair to use one area to paint a picture. Newcastle is not even the biggest miner of coal.
From another environmentalist deeply involved as a consultant within the mining sector. Small mining companies do not have the financial means of rehabilitate the area post mining. Normally with big mining companies we set out a huge budget for rehabilitation (Financial Provision). The government or rather the department (DMRE) is the one that should be held liable for giving mining permits to people who do not have the financial capability to mine and rehabilitate. But then again, its a cadre deployment led government and that is why we are in this mess.
