That is nice! I love modular bags/setups like this !
Need molles on the front straps to accommodate your ht pouch, microphone and antenna. Every backpack designed for amateur radio should have that and it’s such a simple thing.
Yeah, and then newly licensed amateurs can affix their new QRZ-1 Explorer to their Gigaparts Explorer backpack.
Well that answers that question... ICOM 705 with Peovi handle/frame will not fir in 705 optional bag... thanks. Bob
Nope
Danggg that coax is sweet the pl259s wow
I have 3 5.11 packs. I believe that the "laptop" holder inside is intended to be a water bladder sleeve. You can see a loop to suspend the water bladder from above it. But I usually put a laptop there also. I've put a water bladder there a few times but many more times I've used it for a laptop. It needs a little more padding in the bottom to be a good laptop sleeve.
The 5.11 pack I have wouldn't be a good idea for a bladder, imo. It is inside of the pack, and the sleeve doesn't come all the way to the top, nor is the sleeve lined with waterproof material. If your bladder broke for some reason, it would get everything else in the bag wet.
Previously I had a Yukon Outfitters backpack that I literally wore-out from usage. It had a bladder pouch outside of the main pocket, on the back of the pack, between the shoulder straps and the main pocket. I used this bladder pocket for my laptop also, LOL. But it was lined with waterproofing material and was separate from everything else, so I wouldn't have hesitated to add a bladder to it.
@@HamRadio2 The sleeve doesn't have to come all the way up. I've never seen one that does. You really don't need a sleeve at all as the bladder is intended to hang via a velcro loop or similar from the top of the pack. Nor does it need to be waterproof. Yes, if it broke everything would get wet. I've never seen that happen and bladder makers know that would happen so they design them not to break.
@@tracyrreed Nevertheless my Yukon bag had a pocket that was completely separate from the rest of the bag and lined with a waterproof lining. Even if the 5.11 bag pocket is made for a bladder... which I doubt...I wouldn't use it that way
Great review. Thank you. Gigaparts page for this pack and pouches is poor though. No description and sizes of the pouches. I did send them an email pointing this out. Hopefully they respond. 73
The box the Evolve III computer comes in makes a good box to store it in a man/roll pack.
That's an idea
@@HamRadio2 Actually, the FTM-6000 detached from the slide mount, the Evolve, Digirig and cables can fit in the outer Evolve box. Bought a separate slide mount for the 6000. The slide mount has smooth heavy duty yard Velcro: a plastic meat cutting board has the rough Velcro. That combo lets me put the 6000 in the passenger seat secured with a seat belt. Also with felt stickies on the bottom lets me put it on a table so it does not slide or scratch anything.
I have a quick question, can I do POTA on uhf vhf or is that only for Hf
You can do POTA on any band, you are just more likely to make contacts on HF
Hopefully its water proof for out in the field
I know this is an old video but does a G90 fit in the universal module? Looks like it might based on the video
I think it will but even if not, they're making a sleeve for the G90 and a few other radios too
@@HamRadio2 awesome thanks for the info!
Nice, need to figure out what portable radio I am getting now. Thanks for the demo! -Dave
Do you think an Apache 3800 case would fit inside?
It'd be a tight fit and would probably look weird
Gotcha. I have an ic7300, and that’s how it rolls.
I like it . I already know how I’m going set it up with a radio . Use the two radio pouches one for the battery, and one for my radio then a connector for antenna. Any a whip type for on the move and N9TAX slim Jim for base camp and areas that I need a little more range. Of course it’s for GMRS but fun to play with
Great idea
Thanks for the review. Suggestion: Since you are an advisor and many hams (you and K8MRD for example) have 705's with PEOVI Cages why don't you suggest to Gigaparts that they make a 705 case that will work with or without the Peovi installed. For example, the case would have velcro padded inserts that make the case smaller to fit the "naked" 705 but if you remove the inserts there's more room in the case so the 705 with Peovi would fit. Also, a case for the FT-891 seems like a must do as well as a case for the FT-818. 73
Yes those are good ideas. IDK how much interest there will be for a Peovi case version of the bag, though. An 891 case is a great idea. The 818 is a good idea too but they may not be interested in that since that radio has now been discontinued.
Can you describe your mobile rig in a video please and what radios and antennas you have on your truck. Thanks.

Yes I need to finish up that video
Aloha Jason, this backpack is very much like my Highland Tactical HT backpack that I’ve had for years now.
Maybe Gigaparts can make a bag for the G90 and another for a 12 A/h battery. Maybe have a side sleeve for a 12v folding solar panel instead of a sleeve for a laptop or both, but zips up the side.
I also like the suggestion of having built in rollings and a extendable handle like suitcases for towing behind you.
What hasn’t been mention yet is a large pocket for the coax cable, maybe a curved zipper pocket on the outside somewhere.
Great video! Todd WH6DWF 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks
@@HamRadio2 Thank you very much, Jason. Currently, these Kona Storms are causing a lot of damage here in the islands with severe thunderstorms, waterspouts, flooding and very high winds up to 100mph. I’m doing emergency EmComm here for the last two days as this new cold front starts to move in ever so slowly.
Thanks for putting out this video today to help me get my mind off the weather situation here on Oahu. 73’
Nice
Thanks
@@HamRadio2 will the tx500 fit in the smaller of the 2 pouches?
I bought one at Huntsville. Now just waiting for the FTDX-10 and laptop module. One thing for me is that is zippers out completely and eliminates the need for the big mouse pad for padding against those concrete park benches.
I took a look at the prototype at Huntsville and my immediate impression is that it's very similar to the Vertx line of backpacks like the Gamut 2.0 that I use for EDC. Vertx uses a padded divider with hook and loop for carrying a laptop just as you suggested in the video. Some accessories that you might like that should be usable with the Gigaparts Explorer pack are Vertx's "Tactigami" items, which allow you to carry handguns and magazines utilizing the hook and loop in the backing.
I do have to say Y, Bridgecom Digirig, Giga, Wolf River and like portable antennae, battery/solar panels are upping the ham game. Part of this is POTA. Part is e-comms. Part is off road. Part is hurricanes and Polar Vortices. And Son of URI is going to hit the Texas Triangle.
Any info on the size of laptop sleeve?
No, not yet. My guess would be for a 15" screen or smaller.
Do not forget the GMRS and off-roaders!
Yep!
Giga parts got my suggestion for rolling ham bags.
Thats a game changer for a backpack👍
The ideas on that pack is endless
Would something bigger like an FT991 fit inside? Be great to be able to fully unzip the rig for cooling when in use, allowing for the fact there would be less storage inside the pack though!
Yes there is plenty of room for the 991a
@@HamRadio2 Thanks for the reply, any chance of a video sometime? I did message gigaparts and only got a one line reply similar to "we only think it's a small bag" LOL 😆
Some people have bad back and knees. But need to move stuff. Need rollpacks.
Contact Gigaparts and ask them to have one made. They are rolling out lots of bags for various uses.
