Used this in the MC, and I loved it. I thought it was comfortable and didn't think it was heavy. Then again, I was used to carrying heavy stuff back then.
I used this during my time in from North Carolina to Africa and the mountains of Bridgeport. Up to 100 lbs in Bridgeport The frame cracked after 4 years of use but it was awesome up until then
I had the Arc'Teryx designed ILBE and EDC'd the ILBE Assault pack for almost a decade. Excellent rig. Then I got the Mystery Ranch designed FILBE...another excellent pack. I got lucky and got the frame & harness new for $100 and the main ruck for $30 unissued (aka never used). I've carried in it and it's the best milsurp pack I've ever used. I got the sustainment pouches & the Assault FILBE later as I could, but mostly used the main pack. If I had to legitimately bug out, I'd take my FILBE. It's just hands down the best carrying, best built pack they ever put out. Today, I'd pay $150 for the pack/frame all day long today knowing what I know.
Overall this pack worked very well for myself the years I used it. From the Arctic Circle to the Middle East and Africa. I've seen and used it in pretty much every environment possible. Hands down the weakest point is the gen 1 frame as it cracks and snaps I personally would ensure you have a gen 2 frame or upgrade to a Tactical Tailor or other brand frame if using this pack for serious use. But I'm sure for recreational use it will be more then capable if new and used for medium to light loads.
Ive got just about all the packs in the acu molle 2 system and the lc1 alice pack. I really want to get into the filbe system. Looks like the perfect blend between the alice and the molle. I just domt lime the webbing layout on the molle. I much prefer the alice because of the 3 pockets in the front and the 3 magazing pockets. It suits my peraonal taste and loadout much better.
I used one of these bad boys everyday in the desert with about 85 pounds of gear. She was a beast but I prefer the ilbe. These lines of packs are.truly the best. The bags and packs went through a hell and continued to hold up. I ilbe held up a better than the filbe
I have this FILBE kit. Funny how it doesn't look that big sitting there on your table but when you actually get it in front of you it's massive! Way more than most people will need. But I like having all of the separate capabilities. I use the assault pack most of all. In fact I'll be wearing it on a dirt bike in the desert tomorrow.
Excellent review. Late to the game but I removed the frame and mashed the shoulder harness right into the frame pocket and find it far more comfortable to carry. Use it with the seal line liner and you’re good to go! Keep up the good work
Just purchased this pack in great shape with additional pockets for $119 at my local military supply store. Great ruck. However, my go-to is the Crossfire DG3.
My FILBE will be here tomorrow, very anxious to use it. Was in the Marines from 1985 to 1993 so we only had ALICE packs, this will be my first Molle pack
Great review! I own a FILBE. It's the only rucksack I own big enough to carry an MSS sleep system, AND everything else you'd need to survive out of it for days! Weeks with a fresh water source!
New to your channel. Semper fi brother. My daughter is now in. I just got the filbe main pack for $ 120 and got the assault pack for $20 at a gun show. I have not used the main pack yet, but use the assault for part of my edc. Keep it in the car. Great pack
This pack turned me into a man haha… first time I put one on filled with gear I doubted if I’d be able to even walk. Eventually I clipped the bottom compartment shut and never used it. My iso mat would sit on the outside where that compartment was. The main compartment was more than enough plus it held my gear higher on my back. Purchasing a surplus one and an Alice frame for personal hiking/rucking/etc.
I got my FILBE with just the bag and the sustainment pouches, but brand new. I ended up putting it on a Mystery Ranch frame. I love it, but I've now got a different pack on the frame. No, it's not lighter. They're actually about the same size. I just like how the other pack rides better.
The assault pack brand-new if u ever ever can find one brand new costs almost 300. I watched ebay and online for a few years and a new one in mint condition is as rare as a solar eclipse. I watched every day. I finally found one only one new and I paid 340. And it was the only one searching online I cud find. Hence, the military packs r now very rare unless their all beat to hell. The ilbe assault pack new is close to 200 or more and I've only seen one new in the past year. The ruck filbe pack new is about 350 to 450 without pouches with it. Pouches need to be bought separately. The sustaimment pouch is 30$ to 36$ a pouch. The hydration pouch is 14 to 20$ a pouch. The hydration system costs 90 to 150$ new. U can no longer buy the whole kit all together. I havent seen it brand new unless it's selling for an insane like 800 or 900$ for it someone trying to rip u off.
Pro tip, you can buy used in perfectly fine condition for a fraction of the price usually, I know the assault pack goes for less than 50 most places. And the pouches aren't really necessary and I don't see em actually used a ton
Yeah I got mine unissued just not in the plastic for $50. New h20 bladder and pouch was 30, sustainment pouches 15 each. No assault pack because I have a better one. The coyote tan eagle industries stuff is going down in price quite a bit. People want a lot more for woodland pattern so I just spraypaint the tan stuff.
Surplus, you can get the whole kit in the vid for like $250 or less Without the assault pack and any hydration bladder/ hydration backpack $175-190. $120-150+ for a complete filbe ruck right now is a really good time to go for surplus for usmc gear.
Believe it or not… but I ruck every single thing I eat or drink. When you’re carrying multiple milk gallons and potato’s and food for a few weeks… it’s easy to get it heavy. I’ve done over 90 pounds… granted I only go 2 miles to the store and back… but for those type tasks. Where you are willing to kill yourself with the weight but want to carry everything at once… it’s a great system. Especially with four sustainment pouches attached to it.
I bought this pack when it came out I bought it new and it also came with a camel back water bladder this pack is a beast I actually went to mystery ranch that actually designed this pack and I bought the nice frame because the frame that comes with it I didn’t like it I use this pack for winter hiking and I also use is as a bag when I use my pulk sled great pack
That is truly a monster pack. Only the Marines would field it. I just got into the gen1 MOLLE II ruck. This thing is super-redundant, real marine grade, but you pay for it in weight!
Man, thanks! When i go build a shelter in the woods by my house, and do some bushcraft, i want this bag!. it's perfect. plus, Never know when i'll have to carry an emergency Mortar. Damn nosey neighbors boy i tell ya. 😂 Checklist: Ferro rod.. Knife.. Metal pot.. Tarp.. Cordage.. Mortar.. good to go
I do like the way you can get to the sleep system compared to the ILBE .I have not seen this pack in person but from your video I think I still like the ILBE main pack better. That said would this assault pack work with the ILBE main pack ? And can you get replacement buckles for the ILBE packs ? Thanks👍
Bravo Zulu ! Excellent video, Brother ! Question: Are those sustainment pouches the same size as the MOLLE sustainment pouches for the MOLLE 1 & 2 rucksack systems that the Army used (still use ?) ??? Just wondering, because they seem to be the same. Thank you in advance, for any answer to this question. Keep up the great work !!!
Impossible to find these new anymore. I bought mine brand new with everything in 2012 for ~ $350 USD which looking back is a great deal now. I use this rather than our own issued ruck (Canada), because this is just way better
Does anybody know if an army assault pack will fit on the filbe ruck. I don't like the army molle ruck but like the look of the marine filbe ruck I got a army multicam assault pack and don't want to get a new assault pack
Hey, I have the USMC FILBE and the Army 3 day assault pack. Far as I can tell, it´s compatible. Just tried if the quick release buckles are fitting each other, they do. You can, far as I tested it, use these 2 packs combined together. Cheers Torsten
I’m Airborne trained in the USMC (kind of a rarity in the Corps). I was in from 96-00 so there wasn’t anything major taking place. I have heard stories of combat jumps where the troopers were so heavily packed that they’re hauling over 100lbs each. You have to pack ammunition, radios, batteries for radios, food, water, and field gear and everything you would reasonably need for the mission. In that case, they would have to be assisted in standing up in the bird. They would have to waddle their way to door. They wouldn’t step out, they would fall out. If anyone lost balance and fell it could be quite a challenge for anyone in their way to get back up. Knees in the breeze!
Where can I find a really medium good Alice backpack, meeting all weather conditions, able to go through roughness, straps heavy duty and good quality, buckles metal, and the backpack shoulders and wasit straps like the one in this video?
Ok update - I managed to purchase a new one still in the plastic, your point about this pack not working for anyone 6 ft and above is absolutely true. I’m 5.9 and assumed I’d be good on the standard setting, turns out that the marines must have a lot of midgets in their ranks….the long torso setting is actually on the smaller side for me, so if you’re 6ft, I’d be trying one out first before committing to anything 👍🏼
I know you said this a year ago but like. You know the military carries like 60 pound rucks minimum in the field right? Sometimes twice that amount. A sturdy ruck is required. Which takes weight to have features. This is a well thought out design and significantly better then the molle 2 I was issued which although lighter, I'd take this over it any day.
Used this in the MC, and I loved it. I thought it was comfortable and didn't think it was heavy. Then again, I was used to carrying heavy stuff back then.
This is my new favourite Sunday morning routine! Coffee and surplus.
I'm 6'4" and use this on an ALICE frame for daily rucking and it is my most comfortable pack
I used this during my time in from North Carolina to Africa and the mountains of Bridgeport. Up to 100 lbs in Bridgeport The frame cracked after 4 years of use but it was awesome up until then

I dont buy ANYTHING untill i watch your presentation.
Your the go to review show, your a GREAT AMERICAN 🇺🇸
Stay safe young man thank you for all your information . And your service my kids sleep well at night with men like you protecting them

where could I find ones you used. I am tired of China made stuff.
If anyone knows where I can get a set new that would great

Well done. Just woke up for work and saw this.

where can I find one?
Filbe came out around 2010 actually. Used for deployment 3LAR.
Way better then the army packs

The daughter part was unnecessary lol

Those external straps on the sleeping bag lower portion of the bag are for securing our sleeping mats, not further compression
Military Surplus Awesomeness ‼️👍✌💯🇺🇸
very good pack, it will most certainly give you chronic back pain.

Update on my comment from a year ago, Ive procured one mounted on a Mystery Ranch NICE frame.
If you like the Alice pack if you get the nice system from mystery ranch it works great for a replacement pack frame
That is truly a monster pack. Only the Marines would field it. I just got into the gen1 MOLLE II ruck. This thing is super-redundant, real marine grade, but you pay for it in weight!
Careful, the Gen 1 frames (the black ones) were known for cracking and breaking in colder temps.
@@davethrasher4124 Yeah I use the gen2 frame for sure. Running the gen 1 pack is like a medium alice but with a great suspension stock
How heavy can this tuck sack be? It looks really Leigh’s because it’s just fabric and thin plastic frame?
You can adjust it to fit troops 6 foot and taller.
Got one, love it.
I like the overall look and color of this one better but I can’t afford it lol. I’m just looking for a camping pack/get home bag if I’m stranded.
Knife.. Metal pot.. Tarp.. Cordage.. Mortar.. good to go
Damn....late by 10 minutes..... didn't even get a notification!!! I hate screwtube!!!
9 pounds pack
8 Pounds of water
12 pounds of MRE
means 30 pounds before you add any gear
Good Luck
You can put a Alice frame in it aswell
I do like the way you can get to the sleep system compared to the ILBE .I have not seen this pack in person but from your video I think I still like the ILBE main pack better. That said would this assault pack work with the ILBE main pack ? And can you get replacement buckles for the ILBE packs ? Thanks👍
130 for the ruck, each sustainment is 13 on amazon ,and the assult i found for 60, not bad, i love this way more than the armys molle 4000 im issued
Do you think the molle 2 large ruck would fit on this frame?
Bravo Zulu !
Excellent video, Brother !
Question: Are those sustainment pouches the same size as the MOLLE sustainment pouches for the MOLLE 1 & 2 rucksack systems that the Army used (still use ?) ???
Just wondering, because they seem to be the same.
Thank you in advance, for any answer to this question.
Keep up the great work !!!
I haven’t try it, but it seems likely.
@@3riverblades, thank you.
Impossible to find these new anymore. I bought mine brand new with everything in 2012 for ~ $350 USD which looking back is a great deal now.
I use this rather than our own issued ruck (Canada), because this is just way better
I’ve been trying to find theses new if you know anyone that’s selling them new or know what website I can go to I would appreciate it
I am from ALICE pack era And the awesome Arc'teryx pack era service 88-97
The FILBE has a way to restart the frame for peoe 6 feet and taller
The Arc'teryx (Digi-Cam) pack is the best pack
I agree it does look like a good get home bag slash 72-hour survival pack. A little costly
Does anybody know if an army assault pack will fit on the filbe ruck. I don't like the army molle ruck but like the look of the marine filbe ruck I got a army multicam assault pack and don't want to get a new assault pack

Thank you for telling the weight.
I missed that part. How much does this pack weigh?
Better ideas then ilbe but wish it was marpat or woodland atleast uno but ill take coyote over acu
You should see how the reservist make their pack loadouts. Some of them need the people behind them to shove them through the door. Shits hysterical.

Did you say 81litres for that huge rucksack?? Surely this is wrong? That ruck looks like 130 litres at least, especially with the daysack on top!!
Amazon link doesn't work.
heureux d en avoir acheter un d occasion à 50 euros en France .....
Where can I get a new assault pack? I have one but can't find new.
My large A.l.I.C pack is heavy
Does anyone know where I Can get a new one ?

Excellent Video
there's plenty of used ones floating around, does anyone know where I can get a new or un-issued main pack?

Really would love one of these. The UK though, is lacking.
oz = lbs = pain

Too heavy for anybody but a Marine. 😳
Lk fun. Esve4t be uû
The ilbe was so much better
I got to use both. Went through boot and SOI with the older ILBE and was issued this in 2012. Much preferred this one as a grunt.
