    Mike,
Good Forest Management includes providing adequate access to every part of a property. Beside being access, these trails also serve several purposes(wildlife openings, fire breaks, emergency access). Forest Management does not just mean leaving the trees and vegetation to grow uncontrolled. As a property owner of wooded acreage you have a responsibility to maintain the property. Until someone owns property such as yours, they most likely can't understand that what appears to be work to them is actually a pleasure to you. As always enjoy the videos!

Jason McCook , I was talking with my forester this spring. Although every wood lot owner has their own goals, there was one thing we agreed on......the worse thing to do with your wood lot, is *nothing*.

Every one of these types of programs are commercials since people are saying what they use and why they are using them. Its like going to a friends home and watching/helping them do whatever. You learn about options.

    Hey, Mike,
The same geniuses that think it's a crime to clear underbrush and scrub on your property are running the show in California, and they're responsible for hundreds of millions of dollars in wildfire-loss, property damage, not to mention "air quality" that affects the lives of everybody in states to the east of them. Don't let the uninformed comments of ignoramuses ruin your day. You and Mellisa and the kids are an inspiration and we love you like extensions of our own family.

MIke I got to hand to you. You definitely have come a long way with your UA-cam channel. Thanks to your "gift of the gab" and efforts, you've convinced several companies to sponsor you and give you or the use of an unbelievable amount of machinery that you would otherwise not be able to afford. Your power of persuasion is second to none. You certainly know how to sell yourself and get what you want out of life. Kudos to you, I commend you. You certain are a great salesman.

Mike, I discovered your channel this past summer when I was searching youtube for Fireworks videos, as I too enjoy the 4th of July as my favorite holiday of the year, and put on a small fireworks show for about 50 to 75 of my friends and family. After stumbling on to your channel after viewing your fireworks display for this year, I began watching and became intrigued with all of the things you do around your property. My wife and I have recently purchased 48 acres of land and plan to build a home on it and retire there. I enjoy shooting, but not hunting, but have a dear friend that is a hunter and will be hunting our property. I say this because I have spent the past couple of months learning things that I will need to know as a new property owner. I have really enjoyed your channel, and regarding this diamond blade forestry mower, all I can say is WOW! I will be doing some clearing, and trail cutting, and i can only hope that I can rent a piece of equipment like this. But I just wanted to thank you for all of your content, and let you know that I am one of the many people that have benefitted from your "commercial" for this piece of equipment.

Your so right about the way our parents and grandparents worked their land. My dad passed away 1994 he was 81 years old. My granddad was borned in 1887 i remember hearing their stories about farming with horses. Here in W.V. the hills are pretty steep. Wasn't any tractors back then, and about the only thing that could navigate these hills was a team of horses or mules.
I'm very thankful for what I've been blessed with as I couldn't imagine working like our grandparents had too.
I wished they could've seen how things have evolved from their generation. That machine is awesome. Its way beyond my means of ever owning one but, i appreciate you showing us how very useful it is. Really enjoyed this. Thanks Mike.

You're doing an excellent job as a land manager Mike. As land owners, it's our responsibility to ensure the land and forests are maintained in a healthy fashion...those of us who are land / forest owners (or at least understand how they work) know you're doing the right thing. Not the first time I've watched forest mulching videos..such an awesome machine! I need some trails cut on my own property so I need to find someone in southwest Virginia that owns a machine like this. Great video...keep it up!

Mike keep doing what you are doing. I don’t see these videos as a commercial. I have no problem with you giving air time to the companies that are supplying the equipment. In fact I think that is great to give recommendations for businesses. When we cleared the building sites we had to pay someone with some equipment to get it done. We started doing it by hand but quickly realized that pulling stumps by hand wouldn’t allow us to make any progress in the time that we had to put toward the work. In 3 months we had cleared about 120 x 80 ft. In something like 6 hours with the right equipment we had cleared 1100 ft by 12 ft wide. If we had had access to a machine like the one you are using we could have done 9000 liner ft of trail building along our property lines in no time at all.

  • @botabob
    @botabob 4 роки тому +73

To the "commercial" haters, would you prefer no video from Outdoors With The Morgans while Mike is clearing the paths with this great machine? Mike needs to get the most out of this opportunity as his time and schedule permits. It takes a lot of time to create a video for UA-cam. If you don't think so, give it a try. You will gain a whole new appreciation for the quality videos presented here on the Morgan's channel. I guess some people just want to make firewood. BTW, if you don't want to watch, there are other options for you.

My two cents for all the negative commentators. If you don't like what you see, then watch something else. "Change The Channel". Mike and his family do an awesome job putting these videos together and placing them on UA-cam. It take a lot of time to make these and likely quite a bit more behind the scenes time to get them edited. Thanks Mike! Awesome job. Especially trying to put out a video each day. I look forward to each new video that's coming out. Keep them coming. I think you need the machine an extra week to make some more forest crunching videos!!

I had my property logged two winters ago. They cut mainly aspen and balsam trees. They left maple, birch and basswood. The project was mainly to provide habitat for the Gold Wing Warblers. Since then we have thousands of new trees growing, in fact they are so thick that you can't walk through the woods , unless you cut a trail. This is good for our moose and deer population and all habitat. It also is good for fire prevention. our forest was old and ding and now it is young and growing. ready for a new generation. The new trees are already ten to twelve feet tall. Keep up the good work Mike.

Mother Nature is the Strongest Force on Earth... Left un-check she'll re-grow and make it look like we were never here in 50-100 years. Bob r you are so right. The US Forestry Department used to be large enough to manage the forests, clearing up undergrowth and brush that becomes dangerous tinder when lightning strikes, or some unthinking person starts a fire. Just look at the wide open space in Alaska that burns because of lightning strikes and gets the peat moss to burning, clearing thousands of acres. You can't stop all fires. However there should be something to keep people from building on cliffs that will fall into the Pacific when a flood happens, and from building in forests that naturally burn every year or two, in order for the forests to replenish themselves naturally. Just doesn't make much sense to build in those places... Great job managing your property, Mike! We need a lot more folks like you!!!

Mike, I like the fact that land clearing is vital for the wooded areas to make access for enjoyment and to get where one needs to be as for getting firewood and saw logs and even the what if someone were to get hurt and can't walk, a crew will need ease of access to reach that injured and carry out. I know because I done a lot of hiker carry out in my time and ease of access to a area makes it a lot easier until you get where there is no choice then to go through the thick brush and even wade a creek over waist deep.
I also more than anything think of it as land conservation. protection of our natural resources and help other trees grow without being "smuthered" and then choke and die. land conservation is my No. 1 thing I strongly believe in. Conserving what is there and remove what does not belong or if there is a area that has a lot of "under growth"
I like what you do Mike. What you are doing in my eyes is making your place more accessible to places you like to go and for pure enjoyment and simply enjoy nature and what a better way then to get outdoors and enjoy life. I don't see is as destroying trees or forest or anything of such. I see it as and I go back to conservation. That alone goes a long. long way to preserve what's there and create a place where these trees have a chance to survive and grow. There's nothing no worse than having a lot of stuff growing making it hard for some trees to survive and also make a place where wildlife can roam and find food and have their place in the wild.
I used to work on the Blue Ridge parkway back in 1980 and I done a lot of conswervation on trails but the hard way...all by hand. I enjoy what God created for us to enjoy and use and protect for our younger generation.
Great work Mike and a super cool machine. Very super cool and beyond beautiful place.
Enjoy all of what you do because I do about the same thing...enjoy outdoors. Love you guys.
    Michael from NW North Carolina

Mike, keep on educating people about how things actually work in the woods. Our property here in Indiana is very much the same in terms of opportunistic trees, we don't have to plant any, God takes care of that. You're doing a great job with land management, the grapevine and other evasive weeds are the real forest killers.
Hope the ash trees do come back that would be great.

Absolutely a fascinating video! I felt like I was in the machine operating it myself, great perspective! you can never go wrong getting rid of invasive plants, it's all good. It will make the woods healthier, and make new places to walk, and new trails for the deer. I've opened up places on my 40 acres that I have not set foot on in 25 years, because of multiflora rose. Thanks,Mike for your efforts, well done.....

Love watching your video's Mike. You really don't need to explain yourself to others. I appreciate what you do and your time. I cleared a lot to build my home in the year 2000. 56 ash trees came down and the bush was insane. I did it on my 3 weeks off with chain saw and wood chipper. I still feel the pain til this day. My buddy has 50 acres that we go clear dead and falling wood on the weekends and we make trails there as well the old way. I would love to rent this for a day to save weeks of work. Keep up the good work and always informative video's!!

Great video Mike. I am in South Carolina and own about 50 acres with 30 in woods. Back when you were using the rented back hoe I started thinking how I could build some trails through my woods with no heavy equipment skills. It was then I hit on forestry mulcher. Hired a local guy with his mulcher and before noon in one day he cut 3/4 to 1 mile of zig zagging trails for me. That afternoon I was walking dogs for first time on my new trails... Now, it was done quickly owing to the fact that nothing real big was taken down... mostly heavy under brush, scrub oak and pine. I think 4 inch diameter was about the biggest. Without doubt best way to cut trail (that is as long as you are not trying to go along the side of hill which can get very dangerous very fast). Anyway, whole job cost $2,200 and saved me months of back breaking work. In fact I could have probably never been able to do it on my own. Highly highly recommended.

Great video Mike, I really enjoy watching you operate this equipment in the timber. I have also spent many hours clearing trees and brush, with lots of thorns, the hard way. The tv commercial commenter should go sit in his closet on a 5 gallon bucket in the dark so he doesn’t see any he doesn’t like. Keep up the great work.

I've found Outdoors With The Morgans video's to be both beneficial and informative. I know I've learned a lot. Anyone complaining this is a channel of commercials needs to maybe take a walk and enjoy nature, clear a trail, cut some firewood, or take up a hobby. #haveaday

Mike we live on property similar to y’all. That is an awesome machine. Down south we have been seeing a different forestry machine. It is still a skid steer based tractor but with a horizontal drum type mulching head.
Nobody rents them. You have to have a company that has invested in them to come to your property to clean it up. Going rates are $1500-2000/day or $200/ hr with a 4 hr min.
You handle the folks well that are not familiar with land management and who only know what some urban scientist talks about.
    Keep up the good work.
