Great job there Dean, these restoration jobs always turn into a bit of a mission, it will look much better once the under seal is on, enjoyed watching, well done, have a great weekend.
@@shivadowdepends what you use fluid film that Americans use seems to be really good but a would agree with what your saying that black undercoating that 99% of people use ain’t worth the hassle
These are great cars, cant wait to see it done. 6 year old me is so happy! I remember my dad taking me with him when he worked at Seat. “Bring the kids day” or something a long those lines. They had all these activities there witch I didn’t give a crap about because in the corner there was a brand spanking new 2006 Leon Demo with a lot of stickers (seat racing team) From that day my dad had to bring me to his job every once in a while because I couldn’t shut up about the Leon. It kind of looks like the one you are restoring. So as a 22 year old I’m watching this video with full attention. Edit: it’s funny because I never ended up buying a Leon later in life. I drive a Golf now 💀
Yellow appears to be everywhere...do they build the cars and then spray them? Oh Dean, what have you let yourself in for? Agreed only surface rust in most places but not a job I would fancy. Good luck with it. Just hope you make some cash at the end of the day. Cheers, Bob
Dean , sure we all heard the f-word when you were doing wheel arch liners 😂😂. Why not just get some spray on rust converter for the underside , most of them turn black anyway and it’s pretty cheap too
My fave ‘build’ for want of a better word that you have done in a long time, well worth it for quite a rare car. Can’t wait to see it finished. Love relatable cars like this. Top work Dean.
get some por15 on the underside, its amazing stuff, can be painted over surface rust and still protects... used alot in marine applications so really good at doing the job
Tip for dealing with large areas of surface rust, don't bother with a wire wheel on an electric drill, get a set of wire wheels for an angle grinder and it takes minutes instead of hours.
You can also get some rust converter for the bottom, before you gonna seal it, because you would probably just seal in the rust but it would go on rusting still.
I'm surprised you got the wheels off without problems. I recently tried to get the wheels of my Mk3 2019 Leon and they were stuck fast. When I did get them off with a screwdriver and hammer down the back slot there was a lot of galvanic corrosion of the alloy wheel (white oxide powder) and rust on the hub. The corrosion was evident at the contact point. All greased before replacement.
Dean my honda civic ex has 360,000 on the clock starts runs brilliant and very shiny very quiet looks nice but boy its had some welding over the years its crusty underneath ,
Dean, the reason I watch and have subscribed to your channel is to see these kind of restoration works. I understand that there needs to be a point that comes when expenditure outweighs return. But, if I was a potential car buyer who subscribes to your channel and seeing the effort being put in to ensure that not only the car is road worthy but there is a longevity to it as a result of what and how you have repaired it, then I would think that the asking price, whatever it may be, would be well worth it.
Hi from durham dean 👋👍little tip done few of these and recentle converted a quattro a3 to fwd and had to swap rear end out but loosen shock bolts last as you did and lower car to floor after destressing springs then buz bolts out shock unit on floor then assemble all loosly reverse process lower car over get good bite with strut bolts thdn lift car and and zip away apart so any bushings are tightened at ride height from load points obv load corner before you crank nuts and bolts up cracking job so far mate 👌 thanks for your time be safe and see you soon 👍 👋
Hi Dean,my advice do not use under seal use a rust converter first like Dintrol rc800, then paint with epoxy primer if want then use stone chip not under seal ( under seal looks bodge personally) good luck 👍
There is a lot of work there, also as you said the more parts that are removed reveal even more problems. Great content Dean, I really enjoyed watching it.
It’s nice to see you saving older motors as well as the big money desirable one’s keeps it fresh’ and working in the rust belt will keep you sharp 😂👍🏼👍🏼
Nice job Dean, I would have been ok with full disassembly, sand blasting what’s good, replace what’s not good, and reassemble. Regardless, will look nice in the end, wish we had that car in the states 👍
The rear arms often need rivnuts putting in to mount the suspension level sensor. And assembling the suspension is much easier off the car. On the car when the springs are on everything is at the wrong angle to get the bolts in without a fight.
Have you got an air needle descaler - might be quicker/more effective at rust removal if you can stand the noise. I would also slap on a chemical rust treatment prior to painting sealant on but appreciate the whole job is eating up loads of time.
I’ve just finished the motorcycle equivalent of this project. Lots of relatively minor issues all clumped up into an extensive yet cheap, labour intensive tear down. It’s a bloody Time Machine but I think you’ve saved this car from the scrap pile which is the reason we’re all here
I am in the same situation with my 20 year old Fiat Stilo jtd, I need new shocks and springs all round and the bolts are all badly corroded and will all break so its a case of finding the bolts and getting them in before I by the shocks and springs. But as you know it will be worth it to get a few more years out of the car.
Was wondering if the passenger side rear tyre unevenly wearing down the way it has done was due to the rear axle being as bad as it was or does it need to be completely re alined again due to wear aswel but very good work mate good seeing it being saved nice good work great to watch you doing it to being watching your channel for some time now all good love them seat cupra's and Leon's, bit of a pain in the arse like you said to do but nice to see a car like that back on the road bit of time and effort and with the knowledge you have mate the effort you put in to this vehicle will definitely be worth all your effort and wil certainly look very nice when you get to the finish mark, great work bud love seeing stuff like this and very rewarding for you in the end keep it up mate good on you man👌👌👍👍👍👍
5:29 I had a fr on a 07 plate. It had exactly the same wear on the rear tyres as yours. Is there any reason for this inside edge wear. I was replacing the rears along with the fronts even though the fronts still had life in them. I've never had a car that wore the rear tyres so quick. They also got noisy in less than 1000 miles and the drone from them on the motorway became un bearable. So much that after 3 years and 20000 miles, 45000 total,I gave up with an otherwise enjoyable car to drive and bought something less sporty.
You have cracked it now Dean, it will be a great motor when you have finished it. Brings back memories of severe spanner rash working on cars that were only 3 years old in the70’s, that were completely rotted out! Subframe did look at lot better when it was out, maybe a sandblast and a quick spray of black would have sufficed ? Easy yo to be wise after the event. Keep up the good work mate, great content. 👍🇬🇧😎
I know your pain I was away to put new coilovers on my b5 s4 avant now a full nut an bolt resto underneath, now the engines out to replace turbos an gaskets etc 🤦♂️
Hi Dean. Its Liam from Ireland again lol 😊. I think you have your work cut out for you there. You did a great job getting rid of most of the Rust. Those Hubs were a nightmare too lift or Fall. Anyway the Audi looks like Brand New. What a Job it looks Fantastic Dean. My Hat's off too you. Brilliant Wheels 😊. If they all ended up like that. So Well done. Good luck with the Seat. Chat laters 😅
Strongly suggest not just undersealing the car in the state it's in. Get some rust converter liquid / paste and apply that to get rid of the little bits of rust remaining. Undersealing the car as it is with all the old rust still there will just trap in the moisture and rust 10x quicker
You give me hope because I have to replace one of those rear hubs on my Leon. (Over tightened the hub nut and stripped the inner thread like a numpty) Got a replacement hub from the scrappy, just awaiting new bolts which I have had to get from Latvia/Lithuania because nowhere sells them here in the UK and no parts store can seem to source them. I don't have heat, but I do have an angle grinder lol
Vw gold as I call it, my mk5 gti was no we’re near as bad as this but did a quick refurb on axle stands, used ACF50,then zinc primer the arch liners on the rear are crap why they used carpet I don’t know,
Hi Dean, when will we see work on the tvr ? Have to say the seat doesn't really hold alot of interest for me, but fair play to you to sort the nail out. You need something more interesting to rebuild & something that will have that wow factor when it's done. Regards Graham
Mate you’ve taken on a whole pile of rust there bud, you’ve got balls I’ll give you that!! Your not scared of graft, but all your viewers and subscribers no that..👍👍
Hey I was wondering whatever happened with the RS3 and the mechatronic issue. I looked up videos on it but didn't see any follow up after the last video about it.
in hind sight, it might have been better to have stripped the axle off before ordering all those new parts. As its surface rust a quick trip to your local blast cleaners could have saved that axle, add some new bushes here and there and some fresh paint.......voila!
Old axle could be shot blasted and powder coated might been cheaper than buying new dean but it will look nice the underneath all stone chipped up and new axle but love the video as always good look dean 👍
It is a real Restoration on this SEAT but i still think it is worth doing the job. And yes small and bigger problems are showing off but the "hart "off the car seems to be more than oke ! And so many rust for a car that is only 15 years old, that surprises me in a bad way but like you said maybe it is the color that is making it more dramatic. Well the video was very interesting because off what is coming next....Still i believe the car is worth it and will end up very good and bring still some profit at they end ! See you on the next video Dean !
Rear defuser and front defuser on that cupra would look realy nice to if you can get one for it for a reasonable price, these go very wel and love them done nicely not to over the top little spacer on the 4 corners aswel nice!.👌👍
I wouldn't of changed the rear sub frame, just removed it, needle gunned it then painted it with silver or black Hammerite, just saves money and time. Tbh that subframe isn't that bad, it's just all surface rust. I would of spent the money on the bodywork and new brakes.
this is brilliant content thankyou Dean,,hard work but rewarding is the right attitude indeed, have a good weekend, looking forward to the continuation of this project,,👍👍
Hi m8 love the vids and I’ve bought a ticket for the black Audi but when I was making my account it put my house phone contact number automatically when we don’t use it and don’t have one anymore and I can’t change it to my mobile number can you tell me how it can be changed please
Hey Dean, would love to enter but the website keeps saying ‘gb is not a valid country code’ when trying to pay with apple pay… just letting u know. Great vids pal, all the best, Dan
Im doing this on my 2009 Octavia vRS for an AWD swap on my drive. I have a feeling im going to need a tetanus booster if i dont get squished first. Done the awd abs and gearbox and just prepping the rear 🙏
Golfs go crusty like that vag don't seem to protect the rear end for some reason and as for the sill seems to be weak point I've just to swap one on my golf same yr lol
You need rust stabilizer treatment, the black stains in the steel is also rust...if you just paint over it, it will just continue to rust underneath the fresh paint, it will push off the paint within a year...
i had a 2016 cupra 290 352bhp to much power for those front wheels but great fun was looking at one on these cupra to try see how they rate against mine

Good content and well worth getting this back on the road. This is what most UA-cam wannabe mechanics aspire to doing. Think I'm going to invest a tenner improving my chances of a shiny S3, nice wheel choice btw.

Great content, I love old cars getting some love and lasting a few extra years on the road instead of ending up breaking for parts .
Paint the underside with 2 pack epoxy primer. No need to over paint it and it'll last way longer than any underseal

You might have problems with the paint matching. Yellow car and that model quite rare.
From where did you order all those parts? My LCR need the same parts.
Mines needs this done to it. Need to do the sills as well.
i had a 2016 cupra 290 352bhp to much power for those front wheels but great fun was looking at one on these cupra to try see how they rate against mine
Dean, rather than order metal to repair that small hole in the sill, why not cut up one of the scrap wings?
I’m not that smart 😂
Where did you get the subframe? Ebay delivered from Germany? Im collecting parts for doing this job on my cupra 👍
I feel your pain😂 I restored a Mk5 golf GTi.. same deal. Cracking videos 👍
I've always wanted to a Similar Build but to a XR4i and turn it into a XR8i similar to the South African Sierra XR8 but with a better V8.😊
A really enjoyable video dean, will be good to go when finished
