Love this project! So much more relatable to what a lot of us work on at home. They might not be financially viable but give me this over fixing up Lambos and Ferrari’s everyday
Watching the Lambos and such is ok, but what is turned out on Deans channel is far more relatable to us DIY’s Well done and great content as per usual 🚙 Toot toot 👍🏻
Really enjoying watching this project. I’d probably paint the brake callipers; you’ve put quite a bit of effort into the underside and these look a bit shabby.
Great Job Dean. However IMO I think you're letting yourself down by not painting the calipers red again. It looks like someone has done it before cheaply but on a car of this value I think thats fine. A quick rub down and a paint with a high temp brake caliper paint in red and away you go. Small job incomparison to the work on the rust proofing underneath.
Looking good Dean. A tip when using the rust treatment, tip out what you need into a separate pot or it will get contaminated and not work next time you come to use it.
Thanks for these videos. They're not only interesting, I'm learning a lot of stuff just by watching. And I like that you usually finish the cars to a standard you would expect for a car you'd keep, and if not you're honest about it.
This is a fantastic car to restore, much more relatable than supercars and more affordable to most people. Please please do the calipers even if its just black to tidy it up as everything else is looking great. Try a meet with Evil GT and their Leon Cupra
Maybe time consuming but you do learn a lot off stuff you never done before, so that is one good reason to restore this yellow canary. And you can be proud on yourself because it looking so much better now ! No more rust, great looking fenders and a nice rear axle ! So time consuming or not still a nice project and so nice to watch !! See you on the next video !
This is a great example of why a good mechanic would charge so much to fix a car. Love the work you are putting into this as it’s shows just how long it takes also it would be good to sum up the time taken for such a job .. Thanks as always for the great content!! G…
This is the type of content we your subscribers want to see m8 love it loved watching you put this cupra back together and saving this beauty very rewarding and satisfying work when finished I bet in it when you look back and see what you have done to this cupra love these cars always liked them good bit of work there m8 bet it's gona look abserluetly beautiful when finished cracker fella well worth putting the effort in to this one as each year I start seeing less and less of these about would love to own this cupra or buy it when you finish this can't wait to see the end project bro killing it fella well worth doing more of these types of builds been well in to watching this from the start and Will definitely watch until you have completed this car to good detail polish and love and it's gona look stunning this baby always liked these good job m8 keep on rolling these out like that bro respect!..👌👌👌👍👍👍
I appreciate videos like this. I think it’s more relevant to every day people who can’t afford expensive cars, myself included. Although it’s not really modifications it’s something you can do at home for relatively cheap with a bit of hard work.
Should just clean the back calipers and carriers and do them silver or black would look much neater considering the amount of work you’ve done to the rear end
This is a great project for those who want to have a go and learn. Well done Dean. There may not be a big profit, but there sure is a huge educational value to it. Cheers, Bob
When using rust converter try only clean the loose rust, but don't remove all of it. I know it sounds counter intuitive, but the rust converter needs rust in order to work properly and create that protection layer. Also you can get a spray version which will save you time ;) It might be quite useful for your future cars too!) All the best!
Smooth black hammerite is also good once youe do the rust treatment, that waxoil undersest can be quite messy if you need to work on the csr as it doesnt dry fully
What a cracking job Dean, transformed the underside of the car, nice to see you've used new nuts and bolts on the rebuild as well, really enjoyed watching , well done .
Hey Dean, nice work as always. To stop the rust, I recommend to use Owatrol Oil for first layer. It soaks in the rust and stabilizes it. On this layer put some grease from Mike Sanders. For inside all metalparts you could use Fluid Film. With these tree, it will never rust again.
Nice work as usual. Be great if you could do a video on painting, what kit you got, process of preparing panels, technique & lessons learned. I’ve always fancied giving it a go. Cheers
Nice job saving it from the scrappy. I would paint those callipers though because it would set the car off a teat especially with all the time you have invested in it. Another great video 👍
You could have slightly diluted the rust converter since water based and applied it with a hand garden spray bottle rather than use a brush upside down. Maybe enlarge and reposition the vice on your workbench - much easier than trying to hold that hub assembly on the floor. Keep going!
I fell foul of the exact same situation 18 months ago. Bought an Octavia L&K from Copart Whitburn with an engine issue. Car looked a proper one on photos, 2 owners & good history but it was an Aberdeen car where metal rusts for fun. As soon as it was lifted on truck & i looked underneath i knew straight away where it was going. Gave £650 with charges, drove home & weighed it straight in for scrap for £300. Not good business, but i would of got bogged down with it for months.
Great job nice change from engine rebuilds and takes you a bit out of your comfort zone. This will be a fun car for someone that will last just that bit longer now all that works been done. Enjoying this build👍👍👍👍
I like these kind of videos, being a bit of a home mechanic this is the kind of thing I’d do. Just done a similar kind of job on a mini which I’ve given to my mrs. It’s nice to breathe some life into something that would otherwise be scrapped 👍
You definitely need to clean as much rust off mechanically so only treating worst of it properly first so you can see what's needed next , great content keep up the excellent work 👍
Great work Dean, patience paying off with this once. Will be a cracking little hot hatch when finished. They’re hugely underrated cars IMO. Keep going bud 👍🏼
Great content, love the fact you explain what you're doing in a simple way and makes it easier for us to do if we ever brought the same car and had to do the same. If only i had 4k to buy this off you when finished,
Nice work. I'd have had to clean up that hardware, there's no way I could fit it with all the nice new parts. I'd definitely recommend a bench grinder for that sort of stuff if you don't already have one.
As always excellent content and I do admire the fact that you will have a go at things outside you comfort zone. If I may make one comment I would have fitted new brake flexi pipes as an ex MOT tester I think I might of failed it as the ferrules are fairly rusty.
Good job and massive respect for your patience! I get my rust converter from toolstation, usually have it on the shelf so no waiting. Good if you need it asap
Your getting there Dean. I was once told when restoring a car, don't look at it as one big job, look at it as several smaller jobs, concentrate on each smaller one at a time and you'll soon get there 💯😅
My mk4 golf gti turbo was never meant to be a full restoration But I am enjoying it It’s no way financially wise But I don’t care Keep doing what your doing and enjoy it
Turning out to be big old job but as per usual you are doing a thorough job - will look great when its done and should be good for many more miles of service for someone👍
Sometimes its just nice to do something like this Dean, Breathing life into a half decent car. Yes Ok you may not get much if any profit but it will certainly do someone a good turn.
Great video! That does look like such a big job but I really enjoyed watching thank you! Glad to see some normal affordable car getting fixed instead of another supercar.
Ideal project can relate to what your doing, also a great contender for one of your competitions, as it's going to be in reach for a lot of younger viewers to insure, great channel, don't change any of your format 👍
thankyou Dean this is excellent content,,for the time it would take those calipers done in black would finish it off nicely, but is that me and my ocd playing me up,,😊😊have a great weekend,,
I thought why are you bothering with it when you showed us it at the very start but it is coming on strong fella what a massive change well done the finish line is in sight 🎉
Fairplay to you taking on a job like that! Your exhaust problem just buy another flexy pipe to suit it. For future you should buy a small parts bead blaster can use it on all that you have done with this car so far mate and they cheap to buy and saves alot of time trust me. Out standing what your willing to do congrats mate..
This is the sort of content that the average Jo may consider doing, well done for reaching out to the masses!
And realise by watching the video that maybe its not wise to..........hopefully.
Please paint the calipers
Love this project! So much more relatable to what a lot of us work on at home.

Really enjoying watching this project. I’d probably paint the brake callipers; you’ve put quite a bit of effort into the underside and these look a bit shabby.
Agree 👍
Yep could have painted them just plan black
Great job Dean, I thought this one was going to be scrap!
Ps, Please paint the callipers! 😉
Definitely paint the callipers, doesn’t take long and it makes a big difference smartening up the whole back end of the car.
Awesome content Dean, you’ve inspired me to start my own channel and my own journey in the salvage game ❤
Go for it!
I'll have a look😊👍
Got a few videos already! Worth watching!
@@Republic3D i watched all 4 and subbed 😊👍

Nice to see an older car getting put right .... to many cars get scrapped for the sake of ease....Good Job Dean
Should have put some red oxide primer on after that rust treatment then the underseal. That rust with be back within 2 years.
14:00
Taking too long🤔🤔
For Progress to be made.....It takes Time.
Looking Good for Progress👍
Callipers.......Paint Black and Job done👍
I appreciate videos like this. I think it’s more relevant to every day people who can’t afford expensive cars, myself included. Although it’s not really modifications it’s something you can do at home for relatively cheap with a bit of hard work.
Well done love your excitement with the brake pipe you made
Should just clean the back calipers and carriers and do them silver or black would look much neater considering the amount of work you’ve done to the rear end
Yeah I may do them in black!
14:22 Hope you remembered to put that top bolt in behind the caliper? (bottom left)
if you are going to rust convert take the fuel tank out and the heat shielding so that you can completely seal the underside
A massive turnaround on this Dean, I'd be very surprised if this hadn't been a car from Scotland or the seaside.
This is a great project for those who want to have a go and learn. Well done Dean. There may not be a big profit, but there sure is a huge educational value to it. Cheers, Bob
Rust converter definitely helps alot! That's what I use too!
When using rust converter try only clean the loose rust, but don't remove all of it. got to love the wood screws holding the numberplate on
Classic 🤣
Ugly duckling into a swan. This fills me with joy. Another one saved !
Smooth black hammerite is also good once youe do the rust treatment, that waxoil undersest can be quite messy if you need to work on the csr as it doesnt dry fully
Just done same to my ST, polycarbonate wheels and rust converter mate. Came out brilliant.
What a cracking job Dean, transformed the underside of the car, nice to see you've used new nuts and bolts on the rebuild as well, really enjoyed watching , well done .
I honestly would have painted the brake calipers and carriers yellow. You are doing a great job Dean.
Been eagerly waiting for more uploads on the Leon! Loving this project fella
Really nice progress and nice to see cars saved instead of scrapped.
Nice work as usual. Be great if you could do a video on painting, what kit you got, process of preparing panels, technique & lessons learned. I’ve always fancied giving it a go. Cheers

Great job nice change from engine rebuilds and takes you a bit out of your comfort zone. This will be a fun car for someone that will last just that bit longer now all that works been done. Enjoying this build👍👍👍👍
Great to see you taking the time to do it properly…you can pass the car on knowing it will last another 100,000. Good break from high end cars too.
You are supposed to paint in between the rust converter and undercoat. You now basically have bare metal shielded with just undercoat.
That’s not what the instructions said.. says to apply to the under seal after you have removed all the rust.
Nice to see this being saved. It could have so easily gone off to a breaker. Worth the extra effort in my eyes
This is definitely reflective of the 'saving' in saving salvage...would have been another in the scrap pile with your channel....good job!
Looks so much better underneath now Dean. I know it’s annoying taking your time and ramp up but prob gonna be 1 of best 2nd hand Leon out there mate
Great to see the cupra coming back from the dead, that's why I like your vids coz it's the car's joe blogs has.
Keep up the great content 👍🏻

This is the sort of car that is always worth saving. A little alternative but something everyone aspires to while being within reach price wise.
You have most certainly put some graft in there once again Dean well done bud
Hi Dean.....Paint the bloody calipers. As the old saying goes.." Don't ruin the ship for a hapeth of tar"👍
You've broken the back of the refit Dean. Keep it up, looking good mate.😎👍
Looking good Dean. The rear end looks really tidy now. Great project for all the aspiring DIY guys out there. 👍🇬🇧😎
I would have used raptor undercoat, gives a nicer more factory looking finish.
Well done for saving it, great video
Nice work. I'd have had to clean up that hardware, there's no way I could fit it with all the nice new parts. I'd definitely recommend a bench grinder for that sort of stuff if you don't already have one.

Great video Dean, will be a lovely car especially with all the new bits on it.
Good work, Dean! Looking fantastic. Paint the calipers! 😊
EvilGt did a cupra and as soon as I seen I thought you might have to do the rear sub frame! Great job and content 👏
Well done mate, that looked laborious as hell. Looks spot on for a 2008, keep going your doing well 👍
8 minutes in and this looks exactly what i do on my shitboxes in my friends garage and it's AWESOME!
Well done Dean, I would make them brake calipers more presentable, as one might say, it looks like a bodge job.
They might need replacing yet. So didn’t want to spend time painting them just to bin them
good work there, surprised to learn you didn't know about rust converter but, as they say, every day is a school day
Keep it up dean its looking a hundred times better than it did, awesome job
Dean. I beg you please paint those callipers!! Any old colour will do. Otherwise another great video!
Great work Dean, hang on in there, it's looking great!
Enjoying this series so far mate, keep up the good work !
Fantastic work Dean...... definitely more relatable for most of us I'd say .....
Looking good!!!! Motivating me to restore the underside of the new Mini R53 I’ve just bought!!!
Top-notch work. Too bad about the replacement muffler system not being long enough to get it finished this go around! Waiting to see how it turns out.
Ideal project can relate to what your doing, also a great contender for one of your competitions, as it's going to be in reach for a lot of younger viewers to insure, great channel, don't change any of your format 👍
thankyou Dean this is excellent content,,for the time it would take those calipers done in black would finish it off nicely, but is that me and my ocd playing me up,,😊😊have a great weekend,,
Great job your doing.. brilliant at explaining what's going on...
Excellent job Dean looking great now just saying from North of Newcastle 🇬🇧
Bro you saved a great car mate, I have 3 of them and same year s3 and the seat is best by far ❤❤
I thought why are you bothering with it when you showed us it at the very start but it is coming on strong fella what a massive change well done the finish line is in sight 🎉

Looking alot better than before. Done really well so far mate
She look smart now dean You've done a good job done well done time consuming but it is worth it
Great jobs and well worth the time you put in. Be a great car for someone.

I love this tipe off video so much is going on. Good job Dean. Keep going on.👍
Thanks! Will do!
One of my favourites, for sure. Great stuff, as ever👌
Hellcat build when? ;) loving the Cupra build.
If you’re going to be doing a lot more of this I recommend a needle gun for the rusty arms and hubs
Great video, you're going to end up with a hybrid. 2023 back end 2008 front.
