I do understand genocide ending is one of the "harsh" route and it's going to take A LOT of times just to finish it For most of us who've done genocide route, other than being lovely and all in the P ending, G ending really makes you think why you play games But stopping at P ending is no wrong, I know whole lot of people stopping here, keeping everyone safe and sound is great! Unlike us who've done it have no chance to bring that peace back
I say again. Toby Fox, is the Absolute Master of lite motife's. Like, he perfected this to beyond an art-form! And Undertale is his magnum opus (Which has been treated that way by fans ever since)
If I have one last request, it would be to walk back to the first room of the game. There's something a little special waiting for you there if you do.
Literally thought that was the sweetest thing ever. Either he loves his momma/mother figure in his life or he just really connected with Toriel. 🥲 Precious bean.
If you're still wondering why you were fighting Asriel Dreemurr Basically, after he came back from the outside world, he died in a bunch of flowers, spreading his ashes through them. Then some time leter, Alphyss decided to inject determination on one of these flowers, basically bringing Asriel back to life as Flowey
There are several hints everywhere as to how it all works. Alphys mentions that the golden flowers from the outside have very sticky seeds. So Asriel brought them with him upon his return to the underground. In the "librarby" there is a book saying that it is a custom amongst monsters that upon death, they usually spread their dust onto their favorite things, so their essence lives in them. Well, it turns out that is actually true. That's why, when Asriel died in the garden, he both spread the sticky seeds and his dust all over, leaving his essence there. When Alphys took a golden flower and injected "Determination" on it. It gained "the will to live". And there you have faux Asriel as Flowey. But as hinted by Alphys log, "What happens when something that doesn't have a soul gains the will to live?" Well, the genocide route gives a lot of insight into why Flowey is the way he is, but basically, Something without a soul is unable to feel emotion, or care about things.
That trap at the beginning is such a normal move in literacy but it's so well done that you never realise it, hidden in plain sight. It says "name the fallen human". It never said you play as said human.
Theres also a super subtle hint that the human that fell wasnt frisk, but if you pay attention, the human in that cutscene has only one stripe, while the one you play with has two
The ending of the game broke me entirely, i lost my best friend when i was much younger, and the scene where Asriel talks about not wanting to go, and that your his best friend, it just shattered me, ive never had a game shake me to the core like Undertale, its a masterpiece
This ending is so powerful that even Flowey when he's back to his original self pleads you at the game screen to not reset the playthrough and let everyone just be happy.
To this day, even after all these years I played one true pacifist run, never reset and never will, and will never even watch a UA-cam video of neutral or genocide runs, but I’ll watch pacifists all day long. Hell I almost want to go buy disk versions of the game just to beat them once and set them on a shelf in a collection never to be reset, just to have there be more perfect endings in the world
@@theonlyshinyumbreon it doesn’t feel the same in OneShot because you’re not really bringing Niko back to that world, the World Machine did say that they’re gone back for good and and resetting is basically just replaying back a recording
bro i saw the ending 100 times already, beat the game like 10 times, saw tons of youtube videos... but the ending still makes me tear up.... this game is magical
Yeah I have been watching let’s plays of undertale since the game came out. Played the game a few times (minus genocide I just can’t do it😂). Till this day I never get tired of seeing the ending and the music it’s amazing.
Same, I don’t cry about media and undertale is no exception, but this game brung me damn near tears ever single time I see the ending and the line “despite everything it’s still you”
His comments at the en screen made me tear up. I’ve been with this game and it’s community from very early on and Damn have I experienced a lot with it.
Toby Fox had debilitating impostor syndrome following the success of this game, from what I understand, but I honestly think he's on another level. He's a good writer, but his musical composition skills are genius caliber.
Also some fun trivia - Kenny Omega, one of the founders of All Elite Wrestling and a former superstar of New Japan Pro Wrestling, has commissioned Toby Fox twice for special entrance videos and themes based on the Undertale series. ua-cam.com/video/A1K6p2hKMk0/v-deo.html
In the true lab tapes, the people speaking were Asgore, Toriel, and Asriel. "Marco" was the fallen human, although their true name is "Chara" (short for "Character"). Chara hated humanity + wanted to free the monsters, and made a plan with Asriel to commit suicide via buttercup flowers (why they got sick and died) so Asriel could take their soul, cross the barrier, get 6 human souls, and come back. (It's implied that Chara might have been suicidal before, as Asriel says they didn't come to Mt. Ebott for a very happy reason.) Asriel had second thoughts about this plan, and so didn't hurt any of the humans, allowing them to attack him. This mercy resulted in his death, and is why Flowey (Asriel's new incarnation) has the mindset "kill or be killed."
I got like 90% of this through playing the game myself but this helped get me the rest of the 10%. I never understood why Chara was always so evil, like I get the genocide run but they're always shown as always having been that way. Now I understand much better. My plan for my own personal run is to do genocide, because I've always wanted to get the ending for myself and I think the fights are very fun. But after that, I plan on getting true pacifist and never touching the save again. Letting them live their lives.
@@quarantinetherustgod If you do Genocide you can NEVER go back. You can NEVER actually get the True Pacifist. Ever. The game is coded that way. You can go through the motions, but after Genocide, if you replay and get True Pacifist... Chara is implied to pick off ALL YOUR FRIENDS ONE BY ONE while possessing Frisk in a modified ending. Because Resetting does NOT fix the fact that Chara is in control of Frisk now.
Asriel refusing to land his fireballs and instead have them drop down to either side, just like Toriel when she refuses to attack you any further in the beginning of the game, it just gets me every time, I mean, it causes me to catch tears in my eyes every time.
To shatter the barrier, the power of 7 human souls was needed. We only had 6 in the end, however... In the waterfall area, it is said that to match the power of even 1 human soul, you would roughly need the soul of every monster in the Underground. Which is what Asriel ends up with at the end, plus the 6 human souls, hence why he manages to shatter the barrier
I am a VERY emotionally distant person. Very little media has ever made me significantly feel anything, let alone almost bring me to tears. Toby Fox, the madlad, and his game Undertale have achieved the almost impossible by actually making me cry. I doubt a game will ever touch me like that again. God damnit I love this game.
Man, I understand you so much. And I always thought that there was a hole in me, mentally or culturally, that distanced me from everything else. I understood that instead my emotional alcove is something intimate, warm and small. I cannot bring myself to cry with wars unfortunately, but damn I would cry if I see a small child not being able to play with something. You probably just need to get in touch with what YOU feel as important to cherish. At least Undertale gave me this insight.
Hey, if you want to cry I recommend you the gameplay of OMORI from "AsterKatt" (or something like that). I'm the same and that series just broke me, its another story driven RPG, I'm not giving any more information. Its just great. Edit: spelling
Your reaction to the hugging dialogue absolutely destroyed me man. After all these years, this has to be my absolute favourite let’s play of Undertale. Thank you for playing such an important game in my life
@@MarcoMeatball yeah… I’ve been there too mate, the loss, the devastation. And one of the few things I had for the few year after was undertale, this silly little game that had so much heart and emotion in it. To be honest it helped with my own emotions, and given how many people in were in their early teens when this game came out and loved it since then, I think I’m not the only one who this game has helped. Thanks for letting us see your playthrough.
Okay, so at the end of the game, before you go through the door, you can go back through the whole game and talk to everyone. At the veeeery beginning of the RUINS, where Frisk first fell down, Asriel is there and he has more things to say to you. Might be worth checking out on your own time sometime if you feel like it. :) Congrats on the excellent and very empathetic playthrough! Looking forward to the next one.
@@nivolord I didn't know that. I'm sure a lot of people didn't know that, but if they did then there wouldn't be so many Undertale fancomics because of the closure that gives to players who went through a heartrending moment playing against him. Now I have to go back, so I can finally after a decade plus get more than the closure we needed... I want the closure we deserved.
@@jimvenanzio6561 It gives a little bit of closure, but mostly it gives a few extra lore bits about what happened in the past. Especially about the relationship between Asriel and the First Human. The closure is bittersweet because there's not really anything we can do for Asriel. All we can do is listen.
It's kind of amazing how emotionally impactful the second phase of Asriel is. By evidence of the fact that Marco didn't say two words for like 20 minutes.
As someone who played this when it came out I genuinely cry every single time I see the Asriel fight and talk That goat child is embedded in my heart And his theme song always makes me emotional
Stories like this always fuck me up. This hateful, horrible, cruel entity is just a really, really angry and sad kid. He never had a chance and your heart just hurts for them.
It's great but i wouldn't call it the best for a final battle ost , there's some i like more like Boss fight strings from Serious Sam 3 , it has to be this way from MGR , and the best of them , stained , brutal calamity frim terraria calamity mod Buuut in the end its just an opinion and I'm saying this after i used to be exactly like you an UT big fan(i still though , Final is th best ost in the game for me) but then i started exploring new games , i suggest you to check some of the osts i mentioned , or others , sometimes we miss alot of good things by just staying on the current things God why did i write all of this ?
Undertale is borderline life changing, i remember when this game came out and i was in my early teens. Seeing it changed me as a person, basically taught me compassion and how our actions can ruin other people lifes but in the same manner can make them better. Undertale taught me that kindness is free and it doesnt take anything from you to give to others, that just by tring to do good is enough. The evil route of this game showcases the total oposite of the true ending, how being selfish can make others suffer at your expense. Undertale is incredible, amazing and most of all; i think it saved me from myself at that time.

Every time I see this ending... I can't help but cry. Asriel crying out "JUST LET ME WIN" always gets me. I can't wait for you to tackle Deltarune next!
I understand if you don't because it doesn't exactly follow with the channel's theme, but I would love a recap of your overall thoughts on the game and maybe the additional meaning of the music after seeing it all in context. Mostly, I just don't want your Undertale experience to be over. XD This was a phenomenal series! One thing I will say is to encourage you to wait awhile, maybe even a couple years, and play the game again, or watch someone else, or something. Each time I go through this game, I learn something new, notice something I didn't before, place another puzzle piece into the masterpiece Toby made. Absolutely worth it if you're interested in delving any deeper. But your current experience and understanding of the game has its own value, and maybe that's the best note to leave it on. Just my own thoughts.
Years later, I thought I could watch the ending semi-casually. Instantly, starting crying and feeling my whole body resonate with empathy and care for these fictional characters that mean the world to me. This game will always be special, beyond words. One thing that I'm not sure if others have had - during the special credits, I've always thought of it as like, "Here are all the people that made this happen, and those that deserve love and appreciation. Go say thanks!" And I bawling and being euphoric, trying to touch every name like a clapping hands with a winning team, desperately wanting to give my love to all these people. I didn't realize you were "supposed" to avoid them and treat them like bullets!
don't think he will do the genocide route. And since his channel is mostly about music, playing the genocide route woudn't add a lot of new track to it. True Pacifist is the most musical like part of the whole game.
@@hollow3450 well, he would miss the slowed down version of the songs to add dread, miss "Battle agsinst a True Hero" and "Megalovania". It also adds some nods to the story parts in "who is marco" and what Floweys real struggle was. But its not like he cant just read up on this or watch the context of the songs on UA-cam, since i would not believe he would even stand his ground against Undyne the Undying to even met Megalovania. It also is not a route lots of people would really enjoy since it takes ages of mindlessly slaying monsters for some more story beats.
Seeing you get choked up and emotional during the first "save them" moment really hit me hard. Seeing people on UA-cam play this game, I have NEVER been able to stop myself from crying during that final sequence. When Asriel begs you to stay because of how lonely he's been, and begs you to just let him win so he can keep having a friend... It hurts so bad. And my god, does it make me tear up, even after seeing it half a dozen times. The music and the story are just so... heavy. It's wonderful.
Man, seeing the subdued part of the music during its most emotional part of the game slaps marco was enjoyable lmao Also extremely funny that marco accidentally went on no item challenge on the first bit
This boss fight has one of the most insidious false difficulty modifiers: It's very hard to dodge his attacks when you can't see the screen through your tears.
I haven't played this game again since 2016, and, man, I'm still not ready to... I was alone in a house, depressed, with no friends, and, man, that game was so warm... I'm so thankful of how long the ending is, because it allowed me to let go at my own pace. I stared at the blank monitor for minutes after. Since then I've became an adult, things have gotten worse... I hate being in this world, and hate being myself. ...but I'm able to work on my own special little game, which is very inspired on UNDERTALE. I always say to myself, I don't care about success, if a single person out there holds it dear to its heart, feels warmth, feels seen... I've have achieved my purpose. I wonder if you'd get to play it one day. My music sucks though, so not on your channel. Until then, Thank you.
That's the nice thing isn't it? Not everything we do has to be a massive success. Sometimes we put our work into something and it doesn't explode and become popular, but it's still worth doing, even if its only for yourself.
It's for that same reason that I used to (and will again eventually) publish my fanfics. I'll never make money off them and they can take a long time to write, but if a story resonates with one other person, maybe improves their mental state or at least provides a perspective they appreciate, then it's worth sharing.
Other comments here have explained this already, but if you care to read, I can explain the story with more detail, and recap the story. Long ago, in 201X, the first human to fall down to the Underground was found by Asriel, Asgore and Toriel's son. When you begin the game and name the "Fallen Human," this is whom you're _actually_ naming. The protagonist you play as is named Frisk. The Dreemurr family treated the human as one of their own. If you remember the tapes in the lab, the Human (Marco) and Asriel talk about a "plan." This plan was to finally free the monsters from the Underground. They believed they had the power to do it. In the tapes, Marco talks to Asriel about the time they accidentally got Asgore really sick with buttercup flowers. Their plan was, quite morbidly, for Marco to eat a bunch of buttercup flowers, poisoning themselves, becoming very ill, and dying. Asriel would then take Marco's soul, and with it, cross the barrier (as both a Human and a Monster soul are required to pass the barrier, which is the whole conflict with fighting Asgore). They would then, with their new power, kill six humans and take their souls, for a total of seven human souls, and with them, destroy the barrier, freeing the monsters once and for all from their eternal prison. They did so. With Marco's body clutched in his arms, Asriel crossed the barrier with their soul, and travelled to the village of the Humans. Asriel placed Marco's body upon a bed of golden flowers at the village center. Humans left their houses and saw Asriel hovering over Marco's body. They assumed that Asriel had killed the human. They struck Asriel with blow after blow, attacking with everything they had. Even so, Asriel had the power to destroy them all. But he did not fight back. Asriel merely smiled, and walked away, back to the barrier. He did not want to harm the humans. He forfeited the plan. He arrived back at the monster castle, whereupon he succumbed to his wounds, collapsing to the floor, his dust spreading across the golden flowers. The Dreemurrs had lost _two_ children in one night. The Underground was full of despair. Asgor, in a desperate act to give the Underground hope, declared that all humans to fall from now on would be killed, their souls taken. And with enough souls, the barrier could finally be broken. Toriel, disgusted with her husband's actions, left the monster Kingdom never to be seen again. (Unbeknownst to them, she is in isolation within the Ruins, where we meet her.) Skipping some time... Asgore told Alphys, the Royal Scientist, to research the nature of souls. I'm not going to explain all this, because she explains it herself in this very video. During her research, when looking for a test vessel to inject Determination into, she chose a candidate: the first golden flower from Asgore's garden, that appeared right before the Queen left. Unbeknownst to her, this flower was covered in the essence of Asriel's dust (from the prior event). When she injected Determination into the flower, she created... Flowey. Flowey, thus, has no actual soul. So with that being said, when Flowey absorbed the six humans souls, and all the monster souls, he was able to achieve his original form (Asriel). Some extra details: if you were to backtrack to the very start of the game after defeating Asriel, you would find him at the first room. The room with the bed of golden flowers, that you fell upon. This is believed to be where Marco was buried. If you talk to him, he would tell you a number of things. You can search online to see his full actual dialogue, but here's important aspects of the story. One, Marco hated humanity. "Why they did, they never talked about it. But they felt very strongly about that." Two, he admits that, when he absorbed Marco's soul, the control over Asriel's body was actually split between them. Marco is the one who carried their own body back to the village. Marco is the one... "Who... Who wanted to use our full power. I was the one who resisted." If you've read this far, I respect your desire to learn and understand more about the beautiful story of Undertale. I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully this provided a lot of insight.
@@MarcoMeatball oh and don’t know if you’ll see this, but also worth noting if you open the game ever again, flowey shows up and begs you not to reset the game and to let everyone be happy. I honestly wanna buy disk copies of this game, beat them true pacifist, and leave them on a wall in a collection just to have more perfect endings in the world
This game is one of the few pieces of media that can and has brought me to tears. Congratulations on surviving until the end! Where will your journey take us next?
god Hopes and Dreams is such an amazing and beautiful song for the culmination of the true pacifist route! i love that you can hear Flowey’s theme running throughout to really hammer home the fact that he and Asriel are the same entity ✨
I didn't know anything about Undertale except for the Sans meme, song and boss fight for him, and after watching the play through, I didn't know Undertale was this deep, my view on it has completely changed, and thank you for being the person I watched because you saw it more than just a game to play through and beat, you helped explain some meaning. Can't wait watch the next game you'll do a play through for!
@@the_furf_of_july4652 yea i think thats just due to the nature of genocide being very unfun to play through, EXCEPT for the part where you fight sans. genocide is definitely one of the biggest reasons why people talk about this game and sans is its crowning jewel. its also one of the last things people experience in the game because genocide is usually saved for last. plus people just love tragic backstories and secret badass characters and thats what sans is all about. his speculated connection to gaster doesnt hurt either. nothing attracts a crowd like an unsolved mystery
I remember thinking this game wouldnt move me but boy how it did... when you defeat the final boss, before leaving the underground, i walked through the entire game again, revisiting all the areas and talking to all npcs ( you get a lot of dialogue) and i basically cried the whole time with that song playing. This game is abnormally sentimental and its message is very warm. Toby fox is such a genius... btw, congrats on your role on genshim, i follow your channel since the beggining i think and its nice to see the heights you've achieved
i did the same thing, just talking and crying as the background music played, and of course not wanting to leave asriel when we find him back at the start. fuck, i dont think ill ever be able to see the emotional moments of this game without crying.
Man... That transition from Asgores theme to Toriels theme during the credits overcomes me with so much emotion. I love that slide in the beginning of her theme, like if it's welcoming you home with the warmest hug imaginable. And after everything the player goes through, to hear her theme again just hits so deep. I also think her theme during the credits is in a major key..and I think her theme normally is in Minor (I think at least, I'm not too great with music lol). To hear her theme at the end in a higher and more resolute tone makes everything worth it, like if everything is finally over. I love this game so much
Your expression said it all. Especially when you were saving Toriel. I can understand why that may hit harder. I hope you're doing well and found playing Undertale cathartic in some way. The ending gets me every time. A literal message to hold onto your hopes and dreams. Do not let go! Things will get better. It doesn't feel like it when you're in that struggle, whether it be grief, mental health, loss, a different tragedy of some kind...but its true. From lived experience, there will be things you'll experience later that make you happy you stuck around. Undertale is a story of the importance of love, compassion, and CHOOSING to extend mercy and kindness to those who wish to hurt you. But to also survive and keep going. Pacifism doesn't mean just rolling over. I played Undertale in college and in hindsight, I had a lot of unacknowledged and undiagnosed problems going on. Undertale is well made and I think would have had an impact anyway, but the music, themes, and messages hit just a little harder and connect to whatever struggles the player has experienced. Thank you for sharing something so vulnerable with us in this series. I'd love to see your thoughts in a future video now that you've had time to process. Your insight is always fun and engaging! There's a lot to also be said about Asriel/Flowey, but that can be saved for another comment.
The lore is that Sans is more or less conscious about the multiple time lines. Every time you die and reload Sans knows the world is a different one. So he knows it all can be reset, and all the progress, love and time are meaningless, so he became nihilistic. There's a fan comic that Tobyfox said "great: now this is cannon" where Sans asks Frisk when he will reset the timeliness because he cannot held the uncertainty anymore: Frisk answers: never. I promise. Sans just plain cry in gratefulness.
Thank you for a heartfelt playthrough of this beautiful game. I've had friends ask me why I like this game so much, but it's difficult to explain why without spoiling the game. And this is a game that's best played as blind as possible; to have your own unique experience with it and it's universally touching themes. My greatest regret upon completing this game was that I can never experience if for the first time again. But that's why I genuinely appreciate yours (and other's LP) of the game. Through you, I get to experience the joy of this game all over again. Thank you *very* much.
Undertale's ending is excruciating in the most beautiful way possible. It's impossible to not feel emotional no matter how many times I watch it. Thank you for playing through Undertale, and I'm glad you got to feel its full effect.
I don't think I can put into words how much this ending, and the game as a whole mean to me. It's message of love, of empathy, of understanding, it reached something deep within my soul and touched it in a way I don't think another piece of media has ever done. While I understand why Hopes and Dreams gets all the love and praise, I cannot choose it over SAVE The World, there's so much hope, so much determination in that track, and it's helped by one of my favorite moments ever, which is the "saving the souls part", god I cry so hard whenever I get to that, no matter how long or how many times I've seen it, Toriel especially. It's a beautifully crafted moment with the best song to match it. And then you're hit with His Theme and god I will never be able to spend the last bit of this game with a dry face, Asriel's story is so devastating, so sad, and his song plays perfectly to it, it's an emotional journey. Hugging Asriel has got to be one of the most heartbroken I've ever felt while playing a game. His grief, his unwillingness to let go of the original human, fuck, it's so good. Both Reunited and Respite fill me with so much positive energy and emotion, it's love, it's all about love man, god, I can't, seriously, I'm tearing up while writing the comment. I'm glad the game reached you in whatever way it did, it's different for everybody, but it seems like the way it touches one's soul is always impactful. Your gameplay was so much fun, seeing your reactions, your analysis, what you thought of each moment, gosh it made me feel 14 playing for the first time again. Thank you so much Marco!!
Yeah... I watched an undertale walkthrough when I was 8 years old. I'm 17 now and it still makes me tear up at the end of this game. She is literally my childhood. Thank you for this video, I was extremely pleased to go all this way again
The fact that you were basically speechless for so much of this video really says a lot in and of itself, I think. What an amazing game. Thank you for playing it!
It is so amazing to see someone be able to put themselves in the characters place and take the emotions they would feel...(And someone not willing to do genocide run because you care too much for the characters in the game to hurt them). Just a quick thing incase you still have a save file, once you can talk to the characters before exiting the underground, you can go back through the ENTIRE underground and talk to every single character, all the way back to the beginning where you fell in, incase you want to do something you don't have to record and just enjoy it! Keep up the amazing content Marco!
Just finished watching this whole series recently, and I haven't felt anything so powerful again since I had first played the game myself. Undertale truly is one of a kind and despite what flaws may lie within its community, it has brought something to the gaming world we could have never expected. I had an absolute blast watching you play this game for yourself, especially since it was my introduction to your channel as well! Wishing you all the best of a luck for your future endeavors Marco, stay determined!
Undertale is truly the most important game to me, ever. I’ve had other games that I loved but no game ever truly touched my heart quite like Undertale. Between the characters that are so lovable and easily relatable. To the dynamic, heartstoppingly beautiful storyline. And the most lovingly hand crafted music I have ever heard in an indie game. Truly a masterpiece that will always be a big part of my youth. Toby Fox completely outdid himself and I am so happy and honored to be a part of this just phenomenal games history. And I am so glad you got to share the experience and that you really took it in like I did. Thank you so much for making these videos; it’s because of big creators like you that play and enjoy these games that the community continues to thrive and not be left to dust. So truly from the bottom of my heart thank you, and I’m so glad you enjoyed Undertale, too.
After the loss of my best friend and brother as a child I was guilt stricken, and filled with grief. And Asriel’s story just hit me right down to the core and I just simply cried when I first finished the pacifist ending since I had no words to express my feelings. Honestly I couldn’t tell at the time if I was sad or happy surprisingly. It’s was the strangest and strongest feeling I had had in a very long time.
You know; I wrote both of those comments, but honestly I’m still unsatisfied with my words. I’m simply unable to express truly how I’m feeling about this game and my thanks to you. I tried my best to write both comments with complete sincerity but honestly it still doesn’t feel like enough. Thank you again, and thank you ten thousand more times; I am truly happy you had a good experience playing Undertale. And again, my deepest condolences for your father.
This has been my favorite game ever since it came out. I've even gotten the special edition for the switch with the musicbox locket. I've seen it been played so many times, have played it so many times and I still feel the itch to replay it again. And this is my favorite playtrough. The attention to the music, the silence, the comment on the music, and just the overall reaction to everything, I love it. Just hoped he'd pet the dog more. "Despite everything, it's still you."
Man, what a great play through, you really made me want to open the game again. I love that you don’t read out all the dialogue or do funny voices for everyone like one might be tempted to and just let the game speak for itself. Your reactions seemed all the more genuine for it. What a phenomenal journey this has been. I've watched a lot of Undertale playthroughs from various people over the years, but this is the first time watching one with such a huge emphasis on the musical storytelling, giving such unique insight along the way. Absolutely my favourite playthrough I've seen. Would you ever consider doing a musical let's play for Deltarune in the future?
24:07 I was just playing this video in the background and heard the music and just... Tears started to form in my eyes so suddenly that I started laughing at how fast my mood changed god undertale is such a gift. Thank you
Two things egoraptor said that always stayed in my mind are amplified in this game: 1- A book can tell the main character is a hero, a movie can too. But in a video game, you can feel it. 2- You don't have to empathize with the character on screen, the feeling happens directly to you. As a side note, video games got me into music, and music is what made me stick to video games a my main entertainment. I regret nothing because of experiences like this :D Thanks for sharing your playthrough and good luck on your next projects.
i waited until all of these were out so i could binge your entire playthrough, and i do have to say that no matter how many times i see someone play through undertale for the first time, it never ceases to be magical. seeing the moment where it finally clicks, and they GET why this has a special place in so many peoples' hearts (including myself - i was going through a very rough time in my life when it first came out, and i needed to hear what it told me) is unlike anything else. i'm glad you got the chance to experience this.
Hope you enjoyed yourself! Undertale is one of those few games that make you realize gaming can be much more that a hobby or distraction. A lot of these OSTs will always be in one of my playlists.❤ p.s.: secret dialogue if you go to the start of the game after the final battle: Asriel will be there and he will tell you: “Don’t kill and don’t be killed, in the surface the people will not be as good as monsters in the underground, watch out there are a lot of Floweys out there.”
Psst! Hey, Marco! Do DELTARUNE next! I've been watching your videos for a while, and I must say that your grasp of music is great. You never fail to accurately describe the message each piece you view and I always feel you empathize with each piece you listen to. Watching your playthrough of UNDERTALE and realizing what each piece meant in the context of the game makes me laugh, cry, mad, scared, and sometimes confused. You keep me and everyone entertained and help realize the beauty of music as a storytelling medium. And what more can a musical piece ask for other than to be understood, not just heard? Stay warm, Meatball!
I was looking for Deltarune comment and I totally agree xd. I wonder how emotionally broke we are all going to be after Toby finishes it. It's gonna be insane.

This game that released 8 years ago now has stayed my favorite game for that entire 8 years and it’s so refreshing to watch someone who knows nothing about it play it and explore it, it’s such an amazing experience and it’s just a beautiful game
You are the first one that reacted to the end just how i did, and i felt reflected on you, i felt too nostalgic, i played the game when i was in school, now its been many, mant years, yet this still breaks me to every single piece
The whole final boss battle is _beautiful_ on so many levels. Not only are Asriel’s attacks just fun to look at, but Hopes and Dreams really sells the moment as a hopeful battle against impossible odds, and the SAVE the World tune is both exciting and heartwarming-of course, I am a huge sucker for violins. Plus, Asriel’s Theme is just so emotional in that final moment after the fight-I still get misty-eyed at that part. After everything, Flowey was just a sad child who missed his friend and didn’t want to say goodbye. If you walk back to the previous areas, there are a lot of fun interactions-but the best one is when you go to where you first fell down-Asriel’s there to talk for a bit and foreshadow that “Marco” (the child who fell into the underground and mysteriously fell Ill out of nowhere) wasn’t always the nicest person. If you remember the tapes in the true lab, Asriel was talking to Marco about not liking this plan anymore. Marco wanted Asriel to take his SOUL. I’ll leave it up to you to wonder why…
Fun fact: megalovania and hopes and dreams are not Sans's and Asriel's themes, but Chara's and Frisk's. Asriel's theme is the one that plays in the battle when he becomes the demon lord.
@@Sojorlos The track that plays during Asriel’s post-fight dialogue where he apologizes to Frisk is called “His Theme” in the game soundtrack. It’s the one that starts with the xylophone notes and shares a lot of beats with “Undertale” since that song features Asriel’s leitmotif. It transitions into “Final Power” as he breaks the barrier and relinquishes all of the souls he took from the monsters. That’s the tune I was referencing. Sorry if I was a little ambiguous in my original comment.
I'm so glad you were able to finish playing after your first aborted attempt, and so glad to see you understand why so many people are so passionate for this game. It is truly a masterpiece. Seeing you get emotional when you hugged Toriel's soul, knowing what you told us at your first listen through of the soundtrack, really made me feel for you.
Thank you for playing through it all :D It's a touching game and as you may have noticed, the contexts of the music's makes them even greater than by themselves.
This has been an amazing journey! There's just something about getting to relive these emotional segments through someone else's experience that I'll never get tired of. Excited to see what you tackle next and I hope to see some Deltarune down the road at some point.
Fun fact: in finale, you can hear his theme playing in the background, which proves that even when asriel/flowey was at their worst, there was still remnants of little ol asriel in there
15:00 I have played this game a dozen or so times, and it legitimately never registered that the healing could’ve been from the human souls. I absolutely love that you caught that!
Almost 1 year from the day i watched this video for the first time, I yet can't believe there's someone like you who truly understands the deep meaning of everything, music, dialogues, characters. This really makes me imagine how passionate your opera singer career must be.
Undertale is one of those games that has an OST that can make me emotional with just a few notes. Nier Automata can do it as well. I wonder if it's because I didn't expect to like either of them but ended up really loving both games that makes them have that much more of an impact.
I must say, this was probably the most beautiful playthrough I’ve seen. Not only because of the musical analysis, but also because of your attention and reaction to the deeper messages that this game gives us, especially in the last four videos. Watching your reaction and being able to understand what you were feeling and thinking during some of the scenes like the mirror by connecting it with what you’ve shared about the tough times you’ve been through in the past was a unique experience, and it let me see undertale under a light I’ve never seen before, further increasing my appreciation for it. Thank you for sharing your experience and this journey with us.
What a truly, truly special game and story. And at least half of it is Toby’s incredible composition. There’s a video by LL Game Shows as well as a series by Media Motifs that points out every appearance of various musical themes throughout the soundtrack if you’re interested in that, I recommend it I think it’s cool. Really though, what a special and profoundly moving experience, and all made by one guy with a kickstarter who just really liked earthbound. Small games like this and Omori are truly incredible and deeply emotional no matter how simple they may seem.
And this is why I love introducing people to Undertale, most people (That I've met) who have never really experienced Undertale are initially like, "What's so special about this game? It's just a popular Indie RPG from years ago, it can't be that special..." Then, they play it, and when they finish they're in tears. Once they've calmed down, they're like, "WTF?! How was that one of the best stories I've ever experienced?!" In response, I just give them a meaningful 'I get you bruh' look, and they thank me for introducing them to Undertale. I always respond with, "Don't thank me, just enjoy the memories of the experience."
OOOH, THE DAY HAS COME!! Edit: Thanks Marco, for doing this again... after all the negativity at the beginning (since the Undertale community can be quite toxic) I really didn't think you'd actually play the pacifist route. It was a ginormous joy watching you play through this and seeing your live reactions though. I remember this game coming out. I was in England at the time, now I am in Germany and the songs, themes and characters of this game awaken so many different emotions and nostalgia. It's crazy to think, that 2015 is already 8 years ago. But look at us now. We'll show them all what we can do.
You know a game's special when you finish it and you're left speechless by the sheer weight of... well, everything in it. That being said, I loved your playthrough, and I couldn't be happier that you wound up enjoying the game as much as you did! It gives you the kind of experience that really sticks with you, long after you're gone through it. And it was neat hearing all your thoughts on the music and seeing how much more you appreciated it with context! If there's one thing Toby excels at, it's getting you to feel how he wants you to with his tunes and having them help him tell a story. Good luck with whatever games you tackle next!
Watching you play Undertale reminded me of my teenager years (I can't believe I was around 15 when I played it... I feel old now!). It brought back a piece of my childhood with so much joy and emotion, and one of my favorite UA-camrs being there to feel such emotion as well (especially through the music) made this even better! Thank you, Marco!
this is one of the best undertale playthrough videos i've ever seen, truly amazing, you've stayed quiet a lot but your reactions, the changes in your facial expressions told way more than needed. i really appreciate that
Two games have made me reflect profoundly on life, friends, and compassion. This game and FFXIV. They both scratched the same emotional itch. I’m happy you got to play this game ❤️
24:14 It's moments like this where we see that sometimes words aren't really necessary. In this one moment, I could see and feel the emotion that you were feeling; and I don't think there's any way either of us could have said any words that made it any clearer than your silence and tears. In all of the emotional moments you've had throughout the game, I feel like this is the episode that really took this from being a game you've played to an experience you've had.
When I as an edgy 15 year old, I was obsessed with sans and megalovania, and was a stupid idiot about it, but now? Now that I am 19, the absolute sadness, that is Toriel, Asgore, Asriel and Chara's story, absolutely broke me when I replayed. Especially since my own family is kinda splitting up now. Undertale and it's soundtrack make me cry everytime and especially now. However it is such a help during this time and I love it. Thanks for the playthrough. If I may, another game I think you may like is Last of Us
The pure joy in your expression at 8:00 was honestly beautiful to see, dude. I was hoping you'd have that "aha" moment after liking the Reprise so much during your soundtrack stream!
That was a nice journey, thanks for introducing me to this game which I also judged by the cover! xD Excellent series, hoping to watch more of this style of playthrough!
When art effects you so much that you deeply desire to love people, that is the most invaluable art of all. The songs of angels are made of those things.
No matter how many times I've beaten, or watched others beat this game, I will always cry at this ending and the scene where 'undertale' plays. This game is a masterpiece and I'll always love it
This series was immensely satisfying. I'm so glad you saw it through to the end. I saw someone on the previous video saying your out-of-context music analysis was better than your analysis during the playthrough, and in a way I even kind of agree with that, but to me that's like saying the 2nd scene of a 3-act play is the "best part". It may be true, but there's plenty of other parts that are also great! And the parts all work together to create an experience that's much better than any 1 of them could ever be on its own! So thank you, again, for *every part* of this series, both the out-of-context music reactions *and* the playthrough.
Do you understand now, what love means what determination really means have you let it change you for the better, this is what I live for that feeling this game saved me and I’ll never forget that emotion, don’t forget that tug on your heart and let it push you to greater things
I’m not running genocide kindly refrain from asking further. Also no deltarune, I’m moving on to other games. My schedule is tight rn

I do understand genocide ending is one of the "harsh" route and it's going to take A LOT of times just to finish it
For most of us who've done genocide route, other than being lovely and all in the P ending, G ending really makes you think why you play games
But stopping at P ending is no wrong, I know whole lot of people stopping here, keeping everyone safe and sound is great!

If you're still wondering why you were fighting Asriel Dreemurr
Basically, after he came back from the outside world, he died in a bunch of flowers, spreading his ashes through them.
Then some time leter, Alphyss decided to inject determination on one of these flowers, basically bringing Asriel back to life as Flowey
OH that helps.
It makes it much better once you understand
@@MarcoMeatball also due to him becoming a flower

That trap at the beginning is such a normal move in literacy but it's so well done that you never realise it, hidden in plain sight. It says "name the fallen human". It never said you play as said human.
It's also after you see the past fallen human, so it gives evidence that name that human. But that one isn't frisk
Theres also a super subtle hint that the human that fell wasnt frisk, but if you pay attention, the human in that cutscene has only one stripe, while the one you play with has two
@@ghosty_waaa I don't think you can count that one cause shirt stripes aren't consistent at all in this game

I only ever saw that as him crying but that works too!
I thought this is just Asriel not attacking, his hands hanging down - but they're sparkling and raining fire from all the energy
Undertale is incredible, amazing and most of all; i think it saved me from myself at that time.

don't think he will do the genocide route.
Man, seeing the subdued part of the music during its most emotional part of the game slaps marco was enjoyable lmao
Also extremely funny that marco accidentally went on no item challenge on the first bit
😂😂😂😂😂
Until then,
Thank you.

If you’re still working on it, do you have anything up for donations?
(Unbeknownst to them, she is in isolation within the Ruins, where we meet her.)
Skipping some time...
But they felt very strongly about that."
Two, he admits that, when he absorbed Marco's soul, the control over Asriel's body was actually split between them. Marco is the one who carried their own body back to the village. Marco is the one...
"Who... Who wanted to use our full power.
I was the one who resisted."
If you've read this far, I respect your desire to learn and understand more about the beautiful story of Undertale. I hope you enjoyed this, and hopefully this provided a lot of insight.

Seconded
god Hopes and Dreams is such an amazing and beautiful song for the culmination of the true pacifist route! i love that you can hear Flowey’s theme running throughout to really hammer home the fact that he and Asriel are the same entity ✨
It’s weird how little of a role Sans actually has in the game.
@@the_furf_of_july4652 he's actually a deep character so that's why he's popular, and the meme also
@@the_furf_of_july4652 sans plays a much bigger role in the genocide route, which is where his song comes from
My point being the community puts an extremely large spotlight on him when the game doesn’t. Even in geno he doesn’t get explored that much.
Did you go back all the way to the start where you fell too?
@@mariotheundying yes i did
i did the same thing, just talking and crying as the background music played, and of course not wanting to leave asriel when we find him back at the start. fuck, i dont think ill ever be able to see the emotional moments of this game without crying.
I don't remember crying during my playthrough of this game, why the heck am I bawling my eyes out watching this? 😭😭
I've seen that ending more times than I can count, and yet all these years later it still never fails to make me tear up.
“just give up. i did” “why even try?”
Damn Sans. What happened?
Yeah, stuff like this and the room behind his house make me very curious about his past.
‘His Theme’ will always make me tear up, one of the best pieces of music i’ve ever heard.

Wishing you all the best of a luck for your future endeavors Marco, stay determined!
I really appreciate such a sweet comment

I’m glad you appreciated it! Yes down the road I’d say so
24:07 I was just playing this video in the background and heard the music and just... Tears started to form in my eyes so suddenly that I started laughing at how fast my mood changed god undertale is such a gift. Thank you
Two things egoraptor said that always stayed in my mind are amplified in this game:
1- A book can tell the main character is a hero, a movie can too. But in a video game, you can feel it.
2- You don't have to empathize with the character on screen, the feeling happens directly to you.
As a side note, video games got me into music, and music is what made me stick to video games a my main entertainment. I regret nothing because of experiences like this :D
Thanks for sharing your playthrough and good luck on your next projects.
i waited until all of these were out so i could binge your entire playthrough, and i do have to say that no matter how many times i see someone play through undertale for the first time, it never ceases to be magical. seeing the moment where it finally clicks, and they GET why this has a special place in so many peoples' hearts (including myself - i was going through a very rough time in my life when it first came out, and i needed to hear what it told me) is unlike anything else. i'm glad you got the chance to experience this.

This was one of the best (if not the best) Undertale playthroughs I have ever seen.
Thank you for playing through it all :D
It's a touching game and as you may have noticed, the contexts of the music's makes them even greater than by themselves.

Aw, man... Your reaction to that action made ME cry.
I actually love this playthrough and I look forward to seeing your reactions in the genocide route. Consider giving it a try , maybe in the future.
Watching you play Undertale reminded me of my teenager years (I can't believe I was around 15 when I played it... I feel old now!).

this is one of the best undertale playthrough videos i've ever seen, truly amazing, you've stayed quiet a lot but your reactions, the changes in your facial expressions told way more than needed. i really appreciate that
Glad you enjoyed!
That was a nice journey, thanks for introducing me to this game which I also judged by the cover! xD
Excellent series, hoping to watch more of this style of playthrough!
