I'm 56 years old. When I was a kid, in Redding California, me and my buddy used to sneak up to skyway, and dig all their blemished wheels out of the dumpster. We must have had 100 tough wheels hanging on the fence in the backyard. We would trade with our buddies for whatever they had. What I would give to have all those wheels now. They must be worth a small fortune. I guess that must have been around 1977ish. I just had a huffy. Some of the kids in our neighborhood had really nice bikes. I remember Gary meadows, had a PK ripper. that was the coolest bike I've ever seen in my life.being in northern California at the time we got to see a lot of cool stuff before most people ever knew what it was. Gt's, mongoose, haro, PK ripper, ect. This video brought back a lot of memories for me.
worked 20 hours a week at 7-11 to buy myself a Diamondback Formula1 BMX bike in 1984, oh, and i had to get the GT layback seatpost. lightest BMX bike in the 80s
Man, the 80s and 90s where great to us who where born in those days. I look back on those days where, BMX, GT, Dynos, Redline was every kids dream to have one. I remember my parents buying me a brand new Bmx and the very next day, my brother took my bike and it got stolen. I didn't even get to ride it. Now I'm 42 yrs old and I built me a GT and I bought a Redline from a friend's son. Putting them up and sometimes I ride them.
Boy....the memories ! I used to race BMX in Odessa, Tx. Had a Supergoose chrome edition , redline gooseneck, handlebars , seatpost , sprocket and cranks . ACS stoker mags and snakebelly tires ! Don't ask how i still remmeber this . Im 58 years old now . And have mongoose mountain bikes now .
That's so rad, I had the Mongoose California special with Red skyway tuffs, my gooseneck looked like something off a motorbike and I had no brakes, I used to thrash that thing through the bush and over dirt bowls in Western Sydney Australia, I can't remember how many times I got swooped by magpies while riding that bike, or how many Lizards and frogs I caught with my mates all on our bikes in the bush or by the creek, great memories great times.
Wow, what a walk down memory lane! I saw little details and things I hadn't thought about for decades. Cobra grips and donuts, snake belly tires, Mongoose Motomag wheels, fluted aluminum seat posts, brands like Patterson, Hutch, Redline. The cloudy skies made for nice, balanced light levels. Everything looked impossibly great. Can't believe how many bikes were being shown! (That burgundy Buick was nice too!) I don't think I saw a single Huffy. And that jives with what went on back in the day. You wouldn't be caught dead riding a Huffy, lol! Pads and chain guards and reflectors were really uncool too, haha! Every kid made sure his handlebars had forward rake. And unlike what you see at a show and shine, all our bikes were beat to death, made up of parts from ten different other bikes, broken this, missing that, scratched to hell, rusty, filthy etc. Just like in the collector car world, somebody needs to find some honest-to-God survivor bikes and a survivor plywood ramp, do a period correct display with other elements of the early eighties, metal band stickers and tee shirts etc, Curad Band-Aids in the metal flip top can, Bentine, Vans with checker boards hand drawn on the sides of the soles with a ball point pen, maybe a Van Halen logo. We would go someplace like an arcade or a 7-Eleven for a Slurpee and every kid would park his bike out front upside down resting on the seat and the handle bars. I lived on my bike. I went everywhere on it. Jumped it in the street in front of our house (and still have some asphalt ground into my face somewhere), constantly swapped out parts (cleaned the old grease off with gasoline from dad's mower with my bare hands), painted it several times with rattle cans and made trails and jumps in the vacant desert lots near our neighborhood. I still have my GT with Skyway Wheels to this day. I'm 51.
Mate your story sounds exactly like mine, I had a California special Mongoose with Red skyways with a gooseneck that looked like it was off a motorbike I still don't know where the gooseneck came from. That thing took me everywhere. Was great reading your story man, I can absolutely relate, great times.
Australia blows me away with such a dedicated corps of riders and BMX enthusiasts! Great to see. Wish I was closer and able to hang out with you guys down under, but California is where I dwell. Keep it up and thanks for making and sharing this video!
These bikes bring back good memories as a carefree kid in the mid 80’s. Started off with diamond backs, mongoose, went to GT performer, Dyno comp, pK ripper, Hutch, skyway, then to 24” redline.
Had 2 GT Vertigos back in '94 One was chrome and the other was back and purple splatter paint. Also had a GT Interceptor for dirt riding! Man bikes were my life when I was younger. Seeing these bikes gave me all kinds of feelings haha! Thanks for posting. Aloha
@manny Quintana I never did get a Redline although one of best friends had a cherry chrome one. I always stuck to the GT bikes unless I was building a Lowrider bike which I also was heavily into at the time. Yeah man memories for sure
Farout looking at all these bmxs brings back memories of racing around the bmx track in Kawerau eastern bay of Plenty New Zealand and the movie Rad was my favorite movie ever
At 14:42 I just got transported back in time. Had the exact one I bought it from Goldmans Bike Shop which is unbelievably still there today in Selma Indiana.. That was the baddest bike around! After going there to pick up a Haro FSX I had my eye on I fell in love and my dad coughed up the extra cash for the Master. Love ya dad.
Greetings from Texas!!! This video made my mullet start to grow back out lol but seriously thank you for this video it’s brought back some of my greatest memories!!!
These old bikes were like forms of art! I had a chrome Diamond Back Formula 1 stolen from my front yard when I was a kid. The last bike I had was a blue/black Haro Group one I sold for a $100 dollar bill after enlisting it in the bargain mart. I sure miss those childhood days! Great upload!
The greatest freestyle bikes invented, my childhood memories of the 80's. WOW!!!!🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 These are the real deal. I remember seeing Scottie Freeman of the HARO/Skyway team in Philadelphia 1985 priceless. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I remember when I moved to the Southside Wrightwood Ashburn Neighborhood in the early 80s, hitting Kedzie trails on 87th & Kedzie Shout out to all the cool White dudes back in the day for showing me how to build, ride and choose the best bikes ...PEACE !!
Ahhh great memories, my baby was 87 Redline RL-20B but also had a few of these other beauties mini Torker, PK Ripper, Kuwahara, GT Vert, Predator, Haro group 1, and a few others, great video, Thanx for the memories.
I've raced Bmx from 1979 to 2016! GT ❤..Ihad to retire from racing having crohns and 5 stomach surgeries! I have a nice GT Bmx bike collection and my Factory GT jacket from the 80s! I also collect cars! Corvette Z28 ect..been to tons of car shows across America. I'd much rather see a Bmx bike show.Great video ❤!
A year ago I was buying some old bmx parts off a guy near where I live he had a old school mongoose supergoose from 1982 90% original parts on it original grips rims seat handlebars pedals bfew things repro but it was beautiful I have never seen one in person bike was incredible I didn't feel worthy being near it man it was an amazing bmx keep bmx alive 😍👍
I miss these days to old now I had the Green diamond back with the white five stars an I had the chrome Swin predator miss those bikes worth some money I would think these days!
Those two looptail Quads, with Bottema forks are mad as all get out!!! Sherriff star Campy track hubs on one, Phils on the other- oh my goodness! My last race bike was a 1983 Reynolds 531 Quad with Bottema forks, Bullseye hubs, Flite II's and Powerlite bars- dark metallic bronze colour it was, one of the sillier things I did was sell that bike!
Beautiful Bike Baby @ 24:42! JMC Black Shadow...Hell yeah!!! Love the JMC's & Patterson's...Also included - Ripper's, Kasten, VDC, Slingshot, and many more great bikes!! Great show!
It's really does bring back memories. I loved the mongoose with the red trim and the diamond back but vedio was too long . Didn't see the reclines. Thanx for sharing.
Amazing!! Some real survivors there! Brings back a LOT of memories!! The Hutch mini wins it for me!! I would've killed for that bike when I was a kid competing!! Those Pattersons are real BMX pro-level bikes, as is the Skyway cruiser & the SEs!!
Wow that is unfucking believable I had that same exact blue GT performer when I was a kid then I moved up to a GT vertigo. Wow just seeing the mags brings back memories 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I had a pink and a chrome Hutch Trickstar , I owned a blue & white skyway and my favorite and last bike was a 86 Haro Master. If I knew what I know now I would have bought up all the GT's, Haro's and Hutch in our area for a 100.00 a piece because that's what they sold for used in my area back in the late 80's early 90's. I rode until I was 19 and kept my bike in the trunk. Pawn shops were full of them for 120. to 150. Everyone was just getting older and starting families. No one knew these bikes would be worth 1500.00 to 5,000.00 today. A brand new Master was 400.00 to 500.00 dollars in those days. I paid 80.00 bucks for my 86 from a guy I use to ride with. Crazy to think about
Damn the golden era of free style bike they look fresh n Dope I us to have a red line a Haro BMX firs bike n had racing bike too they look classic 😎👍 dude
