Extreme Furniture Makeover: A Curbside Find Packed With Potential

- Опубліковано 14 вер 2021
- My husband found this wardrobe on the side of the road and brought it home for us to completely makeover. I was inspired by the look of chinoiserie and ginger jars and wanted to recreate that look and feel on a piece of bold furniture.
This second hand makeover is one of the several videos included in the thrift flip road trip playlist hosted by @CraftingCousins

What did you think of this extreme makeover?
I think this is awesome!! Great teamwork and a beautiful result on the piece of furniture. Take care!
I thought it was beautiful as always- altho, I'm curious as to why you didn't bring the fabric to the front- on the door?😊❤️
Thank you Jade!
I thought about it several times actually haha and in person it would have looked too busy with 3 sides of fabric.
Completely gorgeous! I love that color blue very much. You always make the most wonderful flips! God bless y’all 🙏🏻❤️
My grandparents had one of these, and I always loved it.It would be perfect in a babies room.
That looks like a children's wardrobe and chest of drawers. You did a beautiful job😍
I am so happy to have a Desert DIY video to enjoy with my coffee! That’s a charming piece. I always enjoy what you do - you’re so creative. It’s wonderful that your husband is able to work with you. He did a great job with the fabric!🌸
You are so sweet Deborah thank you so much. I am beyond happy to know that someone finds joy in my videos
Ohmygosh. It’s the little things. I cannot believe I have never thought to dab a bit of glue on the next glue stick when refilling!
I love the fabric and nail head design. Great piece, as always!
I have enjoyed watching you do great work. You are so sweet. I admire your husband helping You, especially during your pregnancy. Rest often. Take care. I hope to see more beautiful transformations.
Love the color and how everything came together so beautifully!!!
Love the tone and shade of the Blue !! with the fabric trim! And silver👍🏽 Wonderful work, great husband and partner.
Thank you Elaine
Happy to hear you are well. Your husband did a great job. Like the fabric on the chest of drawers !
Thank you Katie!
I watched all the clips and yours is, hands down, the winner.!!!
Thank you so much
This piece turned out absolutely gorgeous! I dont’ miss that desert heat! I had to laugh a little at your husband cutting the fabric-he is being so careful and cutting so slowly, but he did a great job! So glad we could work together on this collab!
Thank you so much! Yes, he can be such a perfectionist with the details like cutting the fabric haha. I am glad I got to see your work as well, you are so creative
Great job. Like the nail head trim a lot. Wishing you an easy delivery when it’s time.
Thank you Graceann
I have a small childs wardrobe very similar to this. I bought it about 15 years ago and have moved to different states 6 times in the past 15 yrs(husband was military) and took it with us with every move. I started to renovate it about 10 yrs but never fully finished it. Once I get my garage unpacked(just moved 3 months ago and didn't unpack fully due to renovating house first) and create a workshop in it, this will be my first project.
Yay!
Love the upside down cleaning and painting. Will do same.
UA-cam said this video recommended people to watch my fall kitchen cleaning video so I had to come check you out. I’m saving this video for sure. It’s full of useful information. Thanks for sharing!! It came out so good. I wouldn’t have thought of using fabric. I’m definitely subscribing 😊
Thank you Cicely!
Hi Cory, As always your pieces are awesome and it's nice to see your husband also has his talents. Is good to see Cherry here on your channel too. I pray your pregnancy and delivery date go so smoothly, take care!
Thank you so much Mary
So glad somebody else is using blue. I built my mother a drop leaf dining table and painted it Federal Blue from Old Fashion Milk Paint. So far she and I are the only ones who like it.
I like how you did this, and thanks for a nice choice of music!
I love the colors you picked out to make it stand out and blue is my favorite color the silver nail looking border looks good with it too.
Thank you Sandra
I have never seen the faux nail head trim, and hope to find some soon. That piece turned out so pretty. Can't wait to see what the other DIYers did. It'll be hard to top that one!
Thanks for the tip of turning the furniture upside down, it's working way better for me :)
Awesome, glad it helped!
Lovely job, the cobalt is pretty but the mixed blue is more sophisticated and lets the fabric pop as the brighter item. The faux nail trim is a fabulous touch, a wee bit of luxe but understated. Also, great to see you're resting and taking good care of you (and baby) x
Thank you Rebecca
What a beautiful makeover. Love the blue.
Thank you Deb
Turned out awesome! I love the way you do things!
Thank you Heather
Very cute! I just love the blue. Great job!
Thank you Edna
Love that fabric! Glad you're feeling better.
you have a winner in the hubby!! Prayers for the new baby.
Thank you Dee
Very nice! Thanks for sharing
Thank you Gina!
@@DesertDIY you’re welcome ☺️
The color turned out perfect. I am so sorry you are having a rough first trimester. It will get easier. Your husband is an amazing helper. I love that fabric.
Thank you Cheryl! And I am hoping to feel better starting next week when that second trimester hits! Haha. Wishful thinking
Oh my goodness the blue is beautiful and the paper and beading is so pretty. i love this
Thank you! It's an indoor/outdoor fabric which tends to be pretty stiff. Makes it easy to use in applications like this
@@DesertDIY that is so awesome i love it
So awesome your husband picks up side of the road stuff for you!! Yeah, i sprayed in 90 degree heat and dry here in michigan, it was weird, seemed like the paint ended up almost like little tiny balls on the surface. Feel better.
Yes, that's exactly what happens! You end up having to sand it smoothe again after painting. Such a pain
I had this exact dresser for my son when he was born in 1975. on the right side were his hanging clothes and everything else in the drawers. Cool!!
Oh my goodness how sweet!
That turned out great! Glad your husband is helping you out. What a lucky lady. TFS
Thank you Cindy, I indeed am very lucky
Love this sprayer!!! I have three of them 👌👌👌
It's the best! Especially for the price. So easy to clean too
Such a pretty makeover! TFS
Thank you Annette
Yes, gold would have been pretty. But I think the original handles complement the angles in the fabric. Such a charming piece...and so enjoyable to watch your work! 😊
Thank you Beth! I didn't think about that, good point
I love the music you have chosen. ❤️
Thank you Lois
You got the colour just right, the first looked a bit bright but now it looks classic! Great job on the challenge! I too was nauseas in the first trimester with my fourth child but it got better later on, hope yours does too. My last was a girl too so maybe that's what was different.
Thank you Tina! I have had nausea with 3 out of 4 of my pregnancies. The second one was not so bad. Not sure why
What a transformation! It turned out so beautifully. I love the fabric and the trim made such a statement. Fabulous job!
Thank you Sandi!
Love the blue color! It’s so sweet that your hubby helped with the project❤️
Thank you Cindy
I like the colors. I like the fabric. I put blue and gray fabric on a blue dresser a couple months ago. I would kind of like fabric on the right front door rectangle space, but that is strictly a personal option. Take care.
I thought about doing that, but in person it would have looked too busy.
I love that shade of blue. It looks so highend!!!
Great job! Very attractive!
Thank you Ashley!
Gorgeous piece!
Thank you
Gorgeous 💙💙

Such a fun piece! I love these little wardrobes so much. I’m sure they will adore it.
Thank you so much! I feel that these types of pieces are losing purpose in today's world but they are so beautiful
Very nice!
Innovative thinking!
Thank you Connie
You and your husband is an awesome job just turned out very nice so glad that you're doing well thank you so much for sharing God bless you and your family
Thank you Cathy! God bless you and your loved ones as well
I love this piece! I can honestly say your husband helping you, is the sweetest thing I have seen in along time! God bless his heart for doing so! It just makes the whole piece even more magical! All the work you guys do, just to help others is so remarkable & God will surely bless both of you for doing so. I hope you get through this trimester & feel better through the next trimesters! Less heat would surely help, as we are fighting through heat ourselves & it takes a toll on a body.. ❤
You are so sweet. Thank you so much Violet
@@DesertDIY ❤
Love it! 🥰
Thank you so much
The fact that I have plans for several blue pieces to paint, and collections of blue and white dotting every surface really has me watching carefully. I love the fabric and nailheads. Congratulations on taking care with the chemicals around you and that you have such a helpmate. Stay well, all of you. From Pa.
Blue and white will always be classic. Thank you!

Thank you Ann
Love blue&white
Me too!
I love this piece! So pretty! Love that shade of blue and your hubby is so funny with the lollipop! I can’t imagine living somewhere so hot and dry! Fun joining the collab with you!
Thank you so much Nicole. Loved getting to collab with you as well!
A French friend of mine used fabric to decorate the walls - as it seems to be fashion in some French households. She used wooden frames to cover the seams, just as suggestion. That might be easier than cutting exactly. Great piece!
I have heard of that! I learned that if you soak fabric in starch, you can stick it to the wall without it doing any damage to the drywall. It peels right off if you ever want to redo it later. The trick is finding a fabric with a pattern that repeats well enough to work as wallpaper
@@DesertDIY she did it like a mirror on the wall, in regular distances. So you just need a pretty fabric (and maybe the rapport at the same level).
It's beautiful 💯, the music was so soothing also☺️
Thank you!
It's beautiful
Thank you Linda
It turned out beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Love 💕 & hugs 🤗 God bless
Thank you Mary!
Love it!!!😍
Thank you Robin

Thank you Beverly
Wow what a great find 👏, and love the colour's.
Great to see you back, hope the pregnancy has been going well🤞👍👌😃😍
Thank you Shirley. I had a check up this past Monday and the baby's heart beat was nice ang strong and the nurse said everything looks great
Very cool flip
Thank you Terrie
Love it! You have a good husband Cory!
Thank you Kim. I sure do!
Fantastic Cory! If you don't mind me saying this but your husband is a babe. 😉 I Love the fabric and what a perfect finish with the faux nail heads. Your cousin's wife will Love it. I always enjoy seeing how you take a chance with mixing up paint colours together. I would not be that brave. Not to mention adding the clear coat as well. I guess that comes with experience eh? Lol. Your hubby was great in helping you out. Thanks for the tips on the glue gun and type of glue used. I may order that. Keep rested sunshine. It has got to be a challenge in the heat. Love all you do. 🌞💙
Thank you Elise! And yes he is! Haha
Cory, I have been where you are now, as well as millions of other women, and we all sympathize with you during this pregnancy. The only thing that got me through, was knowing what the reward was going to be at the end, a precious baby! You are very blessed to have such a supportive husband. And he is blessed to have you as well.
I love the color and the use of fabric and the nail head look on this piece. As usual, turning a mess into someone beautiful.
God bless you and your family, take care, stay safe.
So true. Thank you so much Kathy
I thought that I was the only one that started painting furniture upside down. It makes so much sense. Thank you for pointing this out. Great job 👍
Thank you Sue
Fantastico y felicidades por su nuevo bebe!!!!!
Gracias
Loved it! NEVER apologize for life, family is MOST important!!😘🤗
Thank you Denise!
Such a great save! There’s no way I could let the bf cut fabric. 🤣 Your husbands craft skills are on point. You taught him well!
Hahaha thank you! He's very detailed oriented
The color and fabric is lovely! I think a bit of silver or gold on the handles would of made the front look better, being as the sides were so nice.😀💞🖌️🎨
I thought so too Janet which is why I had originally planned to do gold pulls but the handles were in a distressed finish with the wood creating a wavy texture and I was worried that if I painted them silver it would've looked weird on that wavy surface
This piece is GORGEOUS Corey...I love the blue. You taught me several things today....I had no idea you could mix the clear coat with the paint...what a time saver....can you do this even if you are using a brush to paint it on? It was also interesting to hear how the humidity affects the paint. Wow. What an amazing transformation. Thank you so much for joining us. It has been so much fun working and learning from you. I am so happy for you on your pregnancy...I remember those nausea days....bless your heart. Thanks again friend!!
Thank you so much. And thank you for hosting. Yes you can brush it on that way too, just be sure to use a synthetic brush to avoid brush strokes as much as possible
I absolutely love it Corey!! Beautiful! Thanks for Collab'ing with us ❤
Okay, at first I was like....girl...I don't know about this one. BUT it turned out amazing!
Haha I feel like most people think that about all my projects! It's like putting on eye shadow before you blend it!
Hi Cory! I was thinking about you today and checking your channel to see if I missed any videos! And look what popped up tonight …A VIDEO !
What a gorgeous piece this turned in to ! Love the idea of the fabric and nail heads! And the color ! You are introducing me to colors I tend to run from! LOL!! I always love your bravery with colors and the gems you make !
I sure hope this pregnancy sickness ends soon for you. Between the heat and that…. God bless you !!!
Nice work to your husband too !
Take care our Desert Girl ! 💛💛💛💛💛💛
Wow, fate! Thank you so much Jayne for thinking of me and for watching and being so supportive of me and my family
This turned out beautiful. When we were younger, we had a piece of furniture like this, I believe it is still in the family somewhere.
How awesome! Thank you
Amazing that you eyeballed the paint mixing and came up with the perfect color!
Thank you Barbara. A bit of luck and experience came together for me haha
Would love to see a cheerful red piece with gold knobs or handles!
I use butter knives all the time too!
You really transformed this piece from trash to treasure. This came out absolutely amazing and I really enjoy your work.
Thank you!
Gorgeous 🥰
Thanks!
Very pretty
Thank you Gail
I'm so happy she won! It had to be one of the hardest things you ever did, to pick one; but I think you nailed it!
It was very hard!
very pretty.
