"Comprising six episodes of nine minutes each, The Pogles set the scene for the sequel series entitled Pogles' Wood. Besides its focus on the titular family, the original series is especially distinguished from the later series by its appearances of the Witch, a mysterious and evil shape-changing character, and the tone of the episodes was regarded as sinister. After initially broadcasting it, the BBC considered it "too frightening" for its proposed inclusion in Watch with Mother, intended to be viewed by a very young audience, and advised Oliver Postgate to make all future episodes revolve around more everyday countryside matters. Another wonderful gift Iain, many thanks! Would you believe - house hunting here in East Kent 4 years ago, my partner and I actually viewed Oliver Postgate's house in Blean and considered it. Sadly in a bit of a state by then. The new owners look to have got it all restored now. And Emily Firmin (who appeared in Bagpuss) is still hereabouts, I occasionally play music with her partner!
Well that's another amazing connection! What are the chances?? That's fascinating about the house too. One of the things I'm enjoying about this newly discovered (for me) series is the 1960s rural setting. The Shape-shifting evil witch is rendering in full HD as we speak...

I loved it yet most people I know don't remember it. Another series that creased me in the 7ts was Mr Fairly Big. Again no one I know recalls it. Probably all deleted now but myself and one other person I k ow recalls it because we used to reenact it for laughs as kids. 🤣

The Pogles kind of passed me by. Looks like I get a change from the Pogues! (musician here... 😃😉)
So much better in stop/go animation. These days it would be CGI, which has ( imho ) spoilt the likes of Postman Pat & Fireman Sam.
Blimey! No longer am I a Pogle virgin, and I got my music into the bargain! I'll have to immortalise that tune into something playable on my tubes. It should have a Penguin Café Orchestra kind of a title...

@@IKP1000 Can't wait for the witch! Too scary for kids? Try telling that to JK Rowling! I was reading scary stories at a very early age. Try HG Wells' "The Red Room" for size.

The BBC were idiots. Everything Oliver Postgate made was golden and I’ve seen all of it - except this. Their squeamishness must have kept it from me.
Not very P.C. for the BBC.
When TV was able to brodcast normality and not PC/woke nonsense.
