Yes the Witch is terrifying and I'm glad I was born the year after this first series had it's only showing or I fear my childhood trauma may have been significantly increased., But fair play to her.. Mrs Pogle is bloody hardcore! I reckon she could give as good as she got with the Slaters🥰🥰
I watched this as a child and it scared me, so much so that it has lived as a one of the scariest things I had ever seen. I can tell you it frightened me then. I believe the BBC did not air these two episodes in the rerun of the first series, because it of the reaction it caused. My Mother had nothing to do with it. That was over 50 years ago. The second series was called Pogles' Wood.
I wonder what it is about the Witch, and similar images and creatures, that taps into some subconscious terror in children. The Groke and the Magician in The Moomins was also memorably scary.

I read recently that Tog first appeared in The Pogles and he was a stuffed toy who was brought to live. I haven't seen him yet, though.
That was the last we saw of the Witch because she was deemed to be too scary and she was dead.
