Facts about Jerusalem:
Ancient Origins: Jerusalem's history dates back over 4,000 years. It was originally settled as early as the 4th millennium BCE and was inhabited by various Canaanite tribes before being conquered by King David of Israel around 1000 BCE.
Jewish Capital: Jerusalem became the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Israel and the center of Jewish religious life, housing the First and Second Temples, which were destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BCE and the Romans in 70 CE, respectively.
Roman Rule: Under Roman rule, Jerusalem was a center of early Christianity. It was the site of Jesus Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, making it a sacred city for Christians worldwide.
Islamic Conquest: In 638 CE, Jerusalem was captured by Muslim forces led by Caliph Umar, marking the beginning of Islamic rule in the city. The Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque were later constructed on the Temple Mount, becoming significant landmarks in Islam.
Crusades: Jerusalem was the focal point of the Crusades, a series of religious wars between Christians and Muslims for control of the Holy Land. The city changed hands multiple times between the Crusader states and Muslim rulers during this period.
Ottoman Empire: Jerusalem came under Ottoman rule in the 16th century and remained part of the Ottoman Empire until the early 20th century. During this time, the city's population grew and its cultural and religious significance continued to flourish.
British Mandate: Following World War I, Jerusalem came under British control as part of the British Mandate for Palestine. The city saw increased Jewish immigration and Arab-Jewish tensions during this period.
Partition and Conflict: After the United Nations voted to partition Palestine in 1947, Jerusalem became a divided city, with the western part controlled by Israel and the eastern part by Jordan. The division and subsequent conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians have shaped the city's modern history.
Reunification: During the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel captured East Jerusalem, including the Old City, and reunified the city under Israeli control. This event remains highly significant in Israeli history and is celebrated annually as Jerusalem Day.
Contemporary Issues: Jerusalem remains a focal point of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, with competing claims to the city's sovereignty. Its status as Israel's capital is recognized by some countries but disputed by others, contributing to ongoing tensions in the region.

Except Jewish graves.
No, they just push gays off rooftops and behead non-believers. Good to know they at least wont walk on their graves afterwards.
Actually no, it's haram (not permissible) to walk on any grave

Muslims have never committed genocide against Jews, but Christians have done so dozens of times
You cannot answer this because it is simply the truth
The charisma of the actor playing Sahaludin just oozes from the screen.
Ghassan Massoud. He is an underrated legend.
and he is christian
He *is* Salahuddin!
I just watched an interview of him on an Egyptian tv ,he said that the scene of picking the cross was his idea ,he pitched it to ridley Scott, he was supposed to pass by and the cameras showin his feet passing by, he said that's disrespectful and salahuden has visors and people all around him who were in fact Christian
فما بالك شخصية صلاح الدين الأيوبي الأصلية وأخيرا الإسلام دين الحق
Saladin and Baldwin, two leaders on opposite sides, championing different religions, fighting for different goals, and yet still these two men respected each other immensely. I wish more of us could do that still
Respect must be earned. Too many people these days demand respect but offer no evidence of their decency.
Respect must be demanded, or you will be nothing but a soft worm crushed under the heel of others

The miniatures are great to paint and the books is a lot of fun to read, but the game itself is not for me

i loved how this movie didn’t antagonize either religion.
Especially in 2005 which was the heat of war in the Middle East.
A very good film, it shows that christians and muslims mustn't be enemys. Great!
@@mongo7106 Like, it would have been so easy for the directors of this film to have just branded Salahudin and Islam in general as being unreasonable, assholish religious zealots and the Christian crusaders as being good boys, but instead they chose to portray both sides kinda as how they were, where you had honorable men on both sides trying to do their best for their people, and a few religious zealot assholes in the middle fucking it up for everyone.
@@user-jn2dw8ru1u exactly. we have our differences but we have also much in common when it comes to belief
He had just conquered a city but yet have a heart to treat christians relics with respect. Though it held no value for him but he understands what it means in the heart of the christians. Should be taken as examples for this modern era where people would heartlessly burn religious books just because they don't believe in it.
or because they hate the people who believe in it and want to hurt them.
Yes.They built AlAksa mosque on top of an holy Jewish site. They also converted Hagia Sophia in Istanbul onto a mosque. They never gave a shit!
@@echoe4806 kinda stupid. Al-Aqsa mosque had built before Saladin conquest. Also it's not Muslim who exiled the jews from Yerusalem. Its the Romans. Learn your Bible or atleast a History before commenting. DumDum.

Salahuddin Al Ayyubi was a king who respected religious differences and even gave people the freedom to embrace the religion they believed in
As long as no one opposes their religios laws on others i tolerate them, as soon as they start doing that shit like in my country i stop tolerating them.

Salahudin is everything a Muslim should be and Baldwin everything a Christian should be
They are both everything a human being should be🥰😃
Salahudin is the example of the good and true muslim
The very definition of the saying, _"I warred with him, but he was not my enemy"._

exactly, an arabian horse hahaha
"This car... not so very good. I do not think I will keep it."
A little detail I really like about the costuming in this scene: None of the major characters we see are wearing armor anymore.
Oh i didnt noticed maybe i am blind
When he picked up the cross, he earned my respect.
he ensure no one stole gold cross.....no one dare to move it after he touch hit
You have to read about islam go watch and listen to ahmed deedat and zakir naik
He earned my respect by honoring his word to allow the Christians safe conduct from Jerusalem.
His vassals would have had him butcher the populace as revenge for petty men's slights.
For me the 1:25 part I found personally insightful. When Balian was speaking with Salahudin, they spoke in their native tongues when departing. Sort of emphasizing their differences and them not being well, close. But what I found fascinating at 1:25 is that Imad said "Peace be upon you", and in response (and I believe done to be respectful) he said says "Alaikum Salaam". Them both having a sort of respectful bond between the two. I just thought this part was really interesting, tiny little detail but to me it says a lot.
That's not salahuddin
earlier in this movie these two characters say the same greeting but each speaks in their native tongue
this what I liked about Ridley's films (whether It's good or not) are the costumes and set design. Felt so real and grounded
Boys : I am Bat-Man
Man : I am Lisan Al Gaib
Legend : I am Jerusalem
lisan al gaib actually appears in quran under another name, he teaches musa (moises in arabic) the 3 lessons of why he did what he did, sinking a ship, throwing down a wall, and killing a child, just to show moises the value of patience, becouse everything in the end has its explication. in islam lisam al ghaib was known as al khidr, the unseen, servant of god.(im christian btw lol)
" ما سطرته دماء الرجال...لن تمسحه زجاجات الخمور" ♥
We are all predestined to be different, but living together and in harmony. This is all just our stupidity delaying the process.
True
Saladin was brilliantly acted by this actor, in this film
I think a lot of people misunderstand Saladin’s respect of Christian iconography like the cross as a sign that he respects Christianity, but they may not know that in Islam Jesus is actually held in high regard and great respect to Muslims as a sinless and holy man. So Saladin’s respect is probably not for Christianity or Christians as a religion or people, but for Jesus who plays an important part in what led to Islam.
In islam muslims are obligated to respect other religius places that is part of the Holy books ( Christians and jews ) that is what Muhammed Saw did.
Issa is not Jesus.
The respect that Saladin shows to the non-living Christian iconography truly demonstrates his admirable character. Respect is earned, not owed. Guy is a king, yet he is not respectable. Baldwin is no king, yet he commands the respect of both his people and his enemies.
Allah o Akbar Aslam alaika ya Nabi al akhir SAW
It’s always stuck in my mind how respectful he is the Christian religion by not stepping on the tiles or putting a cross back up on the table.
That is baldwin's grave that he didn't want to step over.
Great film doesn't get the accolades it deserves 👏
yea, but full of lies

I really like how ornate everythig in Orthodox christianity is.
Im not Christian, but Im Canadian. I always found it kinda jarring seeing how different Protestants where aesthetically, to other religions.
Christianity feels alot more like a genuine religion with Catholics and Orthodox folks.
In a way, its kinda relatable.
"I'm not Christian but I'm Canadian" I choked on my coffee hahahaha.
Huh?
@@pukhtoonistan007 Canadian? Is that some kind of protestant? xD
Catholicism and Orthodoxy are directly traced back to the Roman Empire, and thus inherited the inclination towards ceremonial pomp and lavish gestures to honour the gods, and an organised hierarchy for the clergy common to state religions. The Reformation occurred because people opposed this hubris and extravagance. Simplicity is a key defining trait of Protestantism. If you prefer the former, it means you like it more when a religion is grand and majestic looking.
"Seems" being the key word.
I like the respect between balian and the chief of Saladin army..
Respect and Honour.
I am from Northern Pakistan and we still wear shoes like this. Except they are gold-thread embroidered and hence, much more ornate
Do you even have money to feed yourselves?
@@justpassingby9950 we have more money than you can imagine, viking filth. Nobody sleeps hungry in our part of the world, I’d divide my piece of bread in 32 pieces to feed people than have them sleep under the cold sky as a homeless person.
The full song is from Luis Delgado (spanish musician) it is called Epitafio.
Just spent days looking for this. Thanks for the info
Epitafio(s) is a greek word, its actual means "On the grave" and is used to name the burial fabric that covered Jesus Holy Body. Epitafios also is called the moorning songs for Orthodox Good Friday.
So this is the editor's cut? Very meaningful scene Salahudin praying in the former church
Throughout history several Muslim kings invaded several nations and changed their synagogue and churches to mosques
I wish I had been born at that time and was a soldier in the army of Saladin Ayyubi
One of the greatest scenes in cinematic history.
The background music is amazing! So beautiful!
People always say this movie favored Christendom because the Knight Hospitaller was confirmed by the director to be an 'angel' but that in itself is just a claim by those looking too deep. This entire show has the theme that "Religion" is not real and many commit terrible things in the name of it, but the God is. And never once does 'God' choose a side in the film, in fact, everything the Knight Hospitaler does is to insure that Balian makes it to the point at which he can make a choice to save all manner of people of several religions instead of them be slaughtered. The entire point of Balian was to act as a foil to several characters need to slaughter in the name of religion, his entire purpose and calling was to meet Salahudin in that moment to negotiate a peaceful surrender.
Colossally great scene.
One day, the Muslims will take it all back and this will be reality. And all Jews Christian’s and Muslims will live in peace
This was the case, until Israelis came and showed their true colours.
He was a king. Not a warrior, like Lion heart,
He knows, the value of conquering the hearts of the peoples from other faith.
That's why he may have lost some battles but he did won the wars.
this what I liked about Ridley's films (whether It's bad or not) are the costumes and set design. Felt so real and grounded
I rendered it to 8k, but it may not show up in the quality options.
Just so you know.
8k?! I think my monitor would grow arms and slap me if I even tried
lmfao that is very funny because i tried it in 8k and it would work but a little lag going on so basically my poor laptop dont like 8k just 4k is fine...and even if you have a good piece of hardware still just try 4k it looks much better anyway.

To se salahudeen do that and show respect to the cross gave me chills.
Yes, in the religion Islam, there are pillars of Islam and pillars of faith. There are 5 pillars of Islam and 6 pillars of faith, and they contain two pillars: “Belief in the heavenly books and belief in the messengers.”
A Muslim must respect others, no matter how different they are in their religion. Jesus is a prophet and a messenger from God, and Moses also, peace be upon them
