I always loved this song when I was younger. Now that I'm older I still love it but it brings a tear to the eye. I sure do miss that era of nascar.... and my youth lol.
I went to school with Kyle at Randleman High and loved it when Kyle would bring his guitar to school and play for us we were all so spoiled and always had the best school...Go "TIGERS" XOXOOX,Carmen
This song reminds me of my own father - he was a short track dirt driver. I truly believe if he had started racing younger he would have been a NASCAR driver.
Richard Petty drove his last Winston Cup race less than a year before I was born, so I never got to watch him race live, but I have watched some footage on UA-cam, TV and DVDs... Richard Petty is one of my heroes and it angers me when revisionists try to claim he was overrated and just a rich man beating a field full of nobodies, he raced against all the old school greats such as Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough and David Pearson, he kept his car clean, and he showed up and raced in a time few drivers attempted the entire season. He's the King for a reason, and his kindness off the track is proof of why he deserves to be called the King.
I haye always been a Richard Petty fan. This song really chokes a person up. Keep up the good work Kyle.! Love seeing RP run those Road Runner's an Charger's.
When I first started watching racin'; my parents took us to dirt track (still love it!). We were in Daytona at the same time as the Firecracker 400....we went to the parking lot and my dad said let's see how far we get until they stop us....My mom, dad, brother and I sat in the front row from about the 4th lap in the race until the end. I think it was 1974 when we were there. Now days, we wouldn't have even made it into the parking lot. Ahhh I miss those days!
I'd heard this song...and have it on a NASCAR album called "Runnin' Wide Open" from several years ago, but never saw the video till now... Let's put it this way...I ain't much on tears, but I'm blinking a lot right now...
Remember this song from my childhood. Myparents HUGE Petty fans. I always like the King,Petty Blue. Didn't care much for Kyle, but did enjoy this song. Actually attended Kyle's HS graduation when i was 3 or 4...he graduated with my Aunt. Apparently we sat right in front of the Petty Family. I was told that Richard played with me some during the ceremony :)
I've been a NASCAR fan all my life, just found out Kyle Petty could sing, amazing singer. I really liked your music. from one north Carolina native to another.
Richard Petty , Michael Schumacher, Sebastien Loeb, All masters and dominant champions in their respective eras in their chosen fields of racing, they couldn't be more different but they were all cut from the same cloth.
I think greatness is generational. Petty/Fangio/Foyt. Earnhardt/Senna/Mears. Gordon/Schumacher/(Unser/Zanardi/Mi. Andretti, pick one) Dixon/Hamilton/(and for lack of anyone else)/Johnson
WOW !!! I didn't know Kyle had all that in him, think singing was his 1st love. He sure is proud of "Dad", you could tell at the Hall of Fame ceremony.
THE ONE AND ONLY KING OF NASCAR.. PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE....just imagine how much racing these kids gotta do to even match 1 season of (KING) Richard?? the insanity cannot be matched.
it was a sad day when Lee died, it was a sad day when Adam died, and it will be a sad day when Richard dies, to the Pettys, the best racers this world has ever seen.
I went to see him sing at Mamas Country Showcase years ago . I was surprised how good he was. I heard him a few weeks ago from The Grand Old Oprey and it brought back memories.
Nobody ever believes me when I tell 'em Kyle Petty once had a country music single & video out. It's about time somebody uploaded this so I've got proof!
Kyle is not a bad singer at all! He's nowhere near as talented as Soundgarden who wrote the song "Kyle Petty, Son of Richard" XD But he isn't a bad country singer at all. :D
@@wendyokoopa7048 no disrespect taken. I was just stating a fact that it was crowell who wrote the song. I love Kyle Petty's voice. I listen to his live facebook streams. He sings a new song every time he's live. One of the comments before mine was Soundgarden wrote the song. But it was Rodney crowell song. That's all I was saying.
And for further info, I think Pearson retired a couple years before RIchard did, but within those year after he did, Richard had already won his 200th race. The closest active driver is Jeff Gordon with 89 victories.
I love and respect Kyle, my heart breaks for the loss of his son, but it also beaks for the slanderous comments Richard Petty made on ESPNs 30 for 30 regarding my cousin, Tim Richmond. our Family did not deserve that, and niether did Tim.
Today I lost a lifetime hero...Not from death but from his moral outlooks....Today he chose to be one of those who suppress out First Amendment and FORCE his drivers to stand for a flag. YES FORCED to stand or be fired...This is no way to be a business owner and wont be a hero of mine. His name now forever tarnished and destroyed by his own actions

So my favorite NASCAR driver of all times is also a talented country singer!
Richard Petty is the best there has ever been!

Broke my heart when the 4th generation was ended when Adam Petty, Kyle's son crashed. RIP Lee & Adam. 1st and last.
Just a reminder that this song was written by Rodney Crowell, who is severely underrated for how great he is.
I’m one of the few but Kyle Was and Alway will be my favorite driver ever
Just gave it "thumbs up". Ironically I was the 43rd person to do so.

If Richard petty and dale sr were combined into one person the wins the wins

A beautiful song bout a true legend
The king 👌
this is incredable
Kyle Petty is a talented singer I wish he would put out an album I'd be first in line to buy it .
Thou shalt not taketh King Richard's name in vain.

Love to hear KP sing!
STP and 43!
Kyle is a pretty good singer
Kyle was always my favorite!
It is my opinion that Kyle Petty could make a name for himself as a recording artist .
richard is my hero because hes the bestt nascar driver ever
I find this song is very fitting
Elvis Presley in Old King Richard IS The Kings 😘😘😘😘😘🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂💖💖💖💖🐍🐍🐍
Five stars to the king of nascar ❤🤘🤘🤘👑

I didn't know Weird Al Yankovic sung songs about Richard Petty! *wink wink*
Thanks for posting this video. If anybody has the video of Richard Petty Fans by Alabama, Would you please post it.
Meantime community-minded mining is running out
@skyguy2234 Sky Marty Robbins was a race car driver and also a country singer.
Better singer than a driver !
Cal weathers singing be like 😶:
I fail to see why the op laughs seeing Kyle in this video.
Can't wait to see Almirola finally bring that #43 back to victory lane!
Really like his teaming up with David Childers now.

actually the song was written and composed by Rodney Crowell in 1986.

Ol' King Richard! Man, your drivin' was bitchin'! Great lyrics! Lotta little grey cells used to get that written...
Well, I got kicked to the curb or the rumple strips by you tube ~ just for liking Kyle & his song...makes ya wonder
What was the NASCAR CD this was included on? IIRC it was the last track on it.
NASCAR Runnin' Wide Open (1995)
Just got the same CD at Goodwill for 30 cents!
🤣
Cal Weathers
I think kyle hit it right with his father
I'm telling my kids this was yanni
Turns out he can.
And yes I know who you are. This song will boost the Petty's legacies!
this is funny as hell...never seen it before
I'm just gonna presume this is who the Soundgarden song 'Kyle Petty, Son of Richard' is about.
@phatman ~ you drive a wut??? Are you old enough to drive?
This isn’t bad I’m sorry Kyle your a good driver but your a better singer
@geoffck6969 So what do you think of rap?
MMMMMMMMMERICA

@TimBodie2412 sorry i forgot about Kyle but that willl be sad to
o keeng richedt
@doughesson Foolishness, foolishness!!
Kyle should have stuck to singing.
I always thought he looks like Yanni in this video
I'm not too NASCAR informed, so who is second on the wins list and how many does he have?
David Pearson, 105 victories.
About 1/2 the victories that Richard Petty has (200 wins).
Safe to say that this record isn't going to be broken for quite a while! Thanks!
And for further info, I think Pearson retired a couple years before RIchard did, but within those year after he did, Richard had already won his 200th race.
The closest active driver is Jeff Gordon with 89 victories.
Victor Vallee
I think he has 92 now
ReutimannFan83 Correct.
spee-heed ,nee-heed ,Blee-heed, bree-heed,. I didn't believe the title. I've died and gone to hell.
i can't believe that they made a song for a scammer LULW
