Just did research on my Scottish ancestry and I am a Wilson, of Clan Gunn. Granted, I’m African American, but this brought me a strong sense of pride. Hail Clan Gunn🤘🏽🤘🏽
If it's his heritage then he carried Gunn blood threw Irish blood as well nobody here is Scottish/Norwegian as our ancestors where we have in fact been bred down. The result of a 100 loves.
I am also a proud member of Clan Gunn! I even had one of my Khukuri's engraved with the clan Motto, at least I hope I did. "In Peach and War"? I was not aware that the Clan had a certain song. I shall have to get a copy. Stay frosty folks, its getting strange out there.
Recently while working on my genealogy, I discovered that my great, great grandmother was a Gunn. Fascinating to find out that it is the oldest Scottish Clan.
Gunn is my family name and I’ve been able to trace the lineage back to Gunni, which I was surprised to find out makes us descendants of one of the oldest clans 🤯😊
My family name belongs to the Gunn Clan but I hail from Gateshead England, so too does my Mum. Her maiden name is Foulis of the Munro Clan. I recently looked at a Clan`s map of Scotland and was very surprised to find both of my parents Clans are basically in the same area separated by the Sutherland and Ross clans. My Grandma (on my Fathers side,) her maiden name was Ross ! It just seems strange to think that even though both my ancestors left Scotland, settled in Gateshead and then by some twist of fate, they all seemed to reconnect. I also did a DNA test that showed I`m 47 % Irish and that my family were Celts who emigrated to Scotland.
It does. My surname is also Wilson and I ironically have a younger brother named Joseph! My grandfather told me that Wilson is a sept of Clan Gunn. We are descendants of the most fierce warriors the world has ever seen
I am a descendant of Clan Gunn & live in Australia. My father was an infantry soldier & a 'Rat of Trobuk' as well as seeing action in parts of New Guinea. All 7 of his brothers also fought in WW11. I am also a proud infantry veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with 9 RAR. I am proud of my fathers family history & know we both served with honour in upkeeping our Clans name.
I live in Appalachia. My family were the first white settlers in the county where they still live. It was difficult for them to carve out a living in these unforgiving mountains among savage natives, but carve they did. They are still here. There are no natives here any longer. I genuinely care for my blood people. May God bless Clan Gunn, Alba, and the Scottish/Gaelic people.
Dàibhidh Màc Uillèam my Wilson side is from Clan Gunn, and we live in the US now as well. You’re comment here is horribly racist. The scots fought so hard against being colonized by the British, as the indigenous brown people of the US fought to be free of Americans. Ironic how people like you, who’s ancestors have known the same hardships as the people you are calling savages now, can be just as bigoted and racist as the English were to Scotsman. A pity you’re contributing to the same problem our Scottish ancestors fought against... indigenous people of the americas were not savages and neither are Scotsman !
My birth father is from Pikeville KY and there are Native peoples--with people like you around they just don't say they have native blood. Through my grandma I am Clan Gunn and I am ashamed that one of my clan would say such racist things. Last I checked, Scots value freedom--nowhere have I heard that it's for Scots only.
Just found out my lineage is Gunn..from the farthest reaches of Orkney. I am going to have to visit the Gunn museum,it'd be rude not to. And here was me thinking I was a lowlander Scot when I'm descended from 1 of the oldest clans..I'd be lying if said I wasn't bursting with pride right now
Was born Micheal S. Gunn in the year 1950 in Orlando FL. And yes, my mother spelled my first name wrong on my birth certificate. But then, she wasn't a Gunn.
If you tie in the marriage of the Norse to the Bremore people of Caithness, which constitutes the genetic makeup of the Gunn Clan, the Bremore were direct lineage of the ancient Picts who were indeed the oldest indigenous people of Scotland, so in a sense he is right, maybe not the oldest clan of Scotland, but definitely Strong genetic tie to the oldest and original people who inhabited Scotland. I am a Robinson originally Robison, before there was a misspelling on some documents around the early 1800's, Robson, Robison & Robinson are Sept names of the Clan Gunn, but i remember growing up with the stories that have been passed down generation to generation of of our bloodline being directly tied to The Clan Gunn, & that and our main namesake family line arrived in the mid 1700s. Our family Robison motto is "Justus esto et non metue " which means "Be Just and fear not" & of course our Clan motto "AUT PAX AUT BELLUM ! " - "EITHER PEACE OR WAR ! : ) & Boy oh boy is that ever the truth. Lol !
American Wilson here as well. Idk if we are connected to clan Gunn but ancestors from Edinburgh. Bought my first kilt earlier this week. I wanted a cheaper one to know if I liked it and sized up and all they had was Gunn ancient. Wore it today to work and had many compliments. Now I will drop some coin on a proper Wilson tartan kilt! There are many Wilson's out here in the world and I love and feel connected to them all! Take care friend!
Gunn may be one of the oldest clans but, Clan Chattan first visited Alba in 1103BC and settled in 78AD becoming king of Moray before the Vikings came. Only Fraud and Horses search this title on line lulu.com or ask for Ingram catalogue at bookshops for sources confirmed by Keith Clan after 1715.
There was a time when this was heard, men knew they would die. We have survived. Hail, our Clan.

The oldest Clan? That is one hell of a claim. We are old, but many other clans well predate the Norse raids. I assume you have references for this?
The man knows things, dinnae quibble
Proud of my name and Clan. I would hate to call it and be called out by someone that does know more. Told to shut up though, so Jim, I'll stitch it :P
