  • Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 d 4MATIC Mountain Gray Metallic - Off Road Driving, Exterior & Interior Design
The powerful proportions of the GLB underscore the off-road focus of the design: the surfaces of the forms are emphasised, and reduced lines and precise seams are major features. The upright front section with its striking headlamps is clear evidence of off-road genes, as are the short overhangs at the front and rear.
The optional MULTIBEAM LED headlamps allow quick and precise adjustment of the headlamps to the current road and traffic conditions. With the adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, the main beam can remain on at all times, In addition, GLB models with 4MATIC all-wheel drive and large media display also have a special off-road light. This makes it easier to see obstacles in rough terrain in the dark.
The GLB is the first compact vehicle from Mercedes-Benz to offer a third seat row on request with two additional individual seats. The seats offer people up to a height of 1.68 metres a comfortable amount of space.
The instrument panel consists of a single basic volume, which has a cut-out in the driver and front passenger area. The aluminium-look off-road-like tube elements, which form the bottom end of the dashboard, are new. They are also found in the doors and the centre console.
The GLB comes with a comfort suspension with steel springs as standard and all versions feature a multi-link rear axle. The suspension with Adaptive Damping System (option) enables the driver to choose the preferred damping characteristics.
The front axle of the GLB features a McPherson design. Wheel control is handled by a wishbone below the wheel centre, the McPherson strut and a tie rod. The wishbone is forged from aluminium. This reduces the unsprung masses. The steering knuckles are made of cast aluminium.
All GLB models are equipped with a sophisticated four-link rear axle. The three transverse links and one trailing arm at each rear wheel are configured for maximum driving stability, ride quality and longitudinal/lateral dynamics. The rear axle is mounted on a subframe isolated from the body shell by rubber bushings so that fewer vibrations are transferred from the suspension to the body.
The new GLB has a hydraulic dual-circuit braking system in X-configuration with the brake control function ADAPTIVE BRAKE as standard. The electric parking brake is standard equipment. The rear axle features a combined floating brake calliper with an electric parking brake function.
For use under easy off-road conditions, the GLB has a special ABS intervention control at speeds below 30 km/h. It permits cyclical locking of the front wheels. This makes it possible to shorten the stopping distance on loose ground, for example, or make stopping possible in the first place
The new GLB places its trust in the four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines which were completely updated to relaunch the compact model series. In comparison to the previous generation, they are characterised by significantly increased power and by improved efficiency and reduced emissions.
